Second piece in my series of human infrastructures unintentional effects on wildlife.
the photo I used as direct reference was taken by @strangebiology & used with permission! You can find the whole album on flickr here.
I fell in love with these pictures cause i just think there is such a beauty to them. But also it starts making you think more about human infrastructure.
Idk but i think a lot of us think about fences as benign in the landscape but working on this piece i started thinking more abt, what do fences keep in? What do they keep out? And what do they disrupt or harm? intentionally or not.
That right there is the mail. Now let's talk about the mail. Can we talk about the mail, please, Mac? I've been dying to talk about the mail with you all day, okay?!
Charlie Day from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia (Season 4, Episode 10 “Sweet Dee Has a Heart Attack”) - a commission for Emily
every once in a while, i post about my embroidery in hopes of new customs/commissions, so i figured now that we’re approaching some major holidays, i’d post about it again in case anyone is interested!! it’s a really great way for me to make some extra cash while i’m working and in school, and i truly love doing it! so instead of donating to ko-fi, this is another way to support a writer while also receiving some cute, handmade goodies :)

This piece was incredibly challenging, but super rewarding as well! The scales shine differently as you move the hoop and they catch the light, creating shifting depth. I’ll upload another post with a vid showing that off cause it’s one of my favorite things about this, and the reason I chose to embroider each individual scale.
Image ID: A hand embroidered corn snake sits on an off-white muslin fabric inside an embroidery hoop. The snake has a pattern of red, orange and brown patches, bordered in dark brown. He is arranged in loops, one loop shows off his underbelly which is cream spotted with dark patches. He also has his tongue sticking out.
A video of my snake embroidery, showing how the light shifts on the scales as the piece is moved about.
Working with embroidery the last couple years I knew this would be the effect I would get if I individually embroidered all the scales & thats why I chose to go the tedious route with this piece, the payoff.
Hope the vid shows it alright! It’s a bit hard to capture fully.
