The Case of the Old Book of Chess

“The fact you found the book in my house proves nothing!” Arnold Taylor said urgently, his words tumbling over each other as he licked his lips. “It may have been planted!” He pulled out his phone performatively. “I’m calling my lawyer!” Nancy’s blue eyes held those of her chess-playing suspect, despite his nervous demeanour. “That might be a good idea, Mr Taylor,” the girl sleuth responded, “but maybe not yet!” With that she suddenly snatched the phone from out of the man’s hand and threw it in one easy movement to her friend Georgina Frane, standing behind her, who caught it with practiced ease.

“Hey!” Arnold protested. “You can’t do that!” Nancy smiled. “We just have.” she replied. “I’m not having you calling your goons to spirit you away this time. This time you stay and face the music!” Taylor looked around himself desperately, seeking escape, but every route was barred. “In fact I think we need to ensure you enjoy our company a little longer, sir,” the girl detective went on, “at least until the police get here.” Taylor visibly blanched at her words. Nancy turned to her friend. “George, go to the kitchen and see if you can find something we can use to tie up Mr Taylor.” she instructed. “We may as well make ourselves comfortable while we wait - or in your case, Mr Taylor, uncomfortable!” Taylor looked at Nancy, eyes filed with resentment as George hurried past the two of them towards the kitchen.

“Checkmate, Mr Taylor.” Nancy told the frustrated man, her eyes twinkling.

Tasked with recruiting both heroes and villains, Rip brings together a ragtag team of divergent talents, which includes the likes of Sara Lance, Ray Palmer, and Heat Wave. Although the team continually adds and loses members, their goal is always the same -- prevent supervillains from destroying time itself.

i can‘t praise the nancy drew writers enough for how much effort they put into these characters, and giving each of them an arc, and not letting small things slip and building the story around the characters and not the other way around

The ending of a show, movie or book is always hard and bittersweet. You’ve been on a journey with these characters; experienced their highs and lows (maybe even experienced them together). They have stolen a little piece of your soul and wedged themselves into your heart. So when it ends, it feels like you are losing part of yourself. It’s hard to want to move on; to leave them behind as you carry on with your life journey. However, they never really leave us. They are with us forever and we can always go back to watch/read and remember that journey we took together. We can take their lessons with us through life and help build us into better people. Cry and mourn the loss of friends, but remember they are with you and will remain there in your memories. So take that pain and turn it into love.
