A while back I began covering the history of Jay Z and Nas' beef. I finish everything I say I will, even if it's a little late. So I present the continuation of their feud as well as the conclusion. Feel free to catch up on part one.

Nas - Stillmatic Freestyle (H to The Omo) - So Jay and the Roc had been firing shots for a while and Nas had not directly responded to any of them. Simply stating that he would not bow down. So one day he goes on the radio and he kicks a freestyle over an Eric B and Rakim remix. It's the normal Nas freestyle then he says "N.Y. City, grab a hold and ride with me." He then proceeds to drop bomb after bomb on Roc-a-fella artist including

Rip the Freeway, shoot through Memphis with money bags. Stop in Philly, order cheese steaks and eat Beans fast and bring it back up top, remove the fake king of New York. You show off, I count dough off when you sample my voice, I rule you, before, you used to rap like the Fu-Schnickens, Nas designed your Blueprint, who you kidding? Is he H to the izz-O, M to the izz-O? For shizzle you phony, the rapping version of Sisqo

Summer Jam - Nas wants to hang Jay Z mannequin on stage during his set at Summer Jame. Nas is told that would not allow this at all or any other actions that can be considered as adding fire to his beef with Jay Z and Roc-A-Fella. Nas then pulls out of the concert and is replaced with Jay Z. Jay Z kills Prodigy on Screen by releasing the photos of Prodigy performing ballet routines, who portrayed himself as a gangster from the poorest of ghettos. Nas boycotts Hot 97 for several years providing competitors with exclusive interviews and tracks first. Afterwards he begins to care less for the beef feeling as if there are certain people who are determined to make him out to be a loser. That is until Takeover dropped.

Jay Z - Takeover - Takeover was primarily a Mobb Deep diss. Mainly because Prodigy didn't know how to shut up. Havoc just happened to catch shots for standing next to him. In fact, Nas had also dissed prodigy in a few bars on It Was Written while featuring Havoc on the album because Prodigy couldn't stop bothering people. Anyway it's all good for Nas until that 3rd verse hits. with "I know you miss it Nas (FAME)" then you just had to sit and listen. One of the coldest lines in the track was:

Yeah I sampled your voice, you was using it wrong, you made it a hot line, I made it a hot song, and you ain't get a coin, nigga, you was getting fucked then I know who I paid, God - Serchlite publishing.

This was the line that really go under Nas' skin because it just wasn't true but people rode with it. MC Search who owned Searchlite (Named Zomba at the time) waited until 2014 to explain what happened. Jay Z did pay $2000 for the sample and 50 percent of the royalties. However he only paid for clearance because Searchlight only distributed Nas material and did not own any of his masters. Also the name of the company wasn't Searchlight until 2012. Nas Deal with Searchlight actually included the clause that he receive 50 percent of any money they make from his publishing so in the end, Jay really did pay Nas $1000 for that sample. He just didn't know it.

Anyway Nas feelt that Jay had gotten everything off his chest despite saying things like:

You said you've been in this 10, I've been in it 5, smarten up, Nas, 4 albums in 10 years, nigga? I could divide, that's one every...let's say 2, 2 of them shits was due, 1 was "nah," the other was Illmatic, that's a one-hot-album-every-10-year average

Nas - Ether - There was no plan to respond to Takeover. Nas was done with the beef until Jungle informed him that the streets were saying that his career was over if he didn't respond. So Nas rolled out of bed and recorded Ether. Nas really did start a lot of the things that would haunt Jay Z forever. The big lips camel thing, that was Nas. Nas also killed the Roc by claiming all their artists were irrelevant, just Jay's sidekicks and look what happened to them. Kanye is like the one outlier. The first two verses were gentle warning shots that Jay should turn the track off. Here are some excerpts from that last verse:

Y'all niggas deal with emotions like bitches, what's sad is I love you, ‘cause you're my brother, you traded your soul for riches, my child, I've watched you grow up to be famous, and now I smile like a proud dad, watching his only son that made it

Jay did in fact open up for Jaz on a tour that he was sharing with Large Professor's group Mainsource, that featured Nas as a lead member. In a sense, Jay was opening for Nas' opener.

You seem to be only concerned with dissin' women, were you abused as a child? Scared to smile? They called you ugly? Well, life is harsh; hug me! Don't reject me!

Jay admitted all of this on 'Song Cry'

You a fan, a phony, a fake, a pussy, a Stan

Jay Z has literally mentioned Nas, had a Nas sample or a Nas feature on every album except Watch The Throne

I still whip your ass; you 36 in a karate class? You Tae-Bo ho, tryna work it out, you tryna get brolic?

Jay Z was known to take martial arts classes at the time, he however stopped after this line.

Jay Z - Supa Ugly - If you ever heard the Angie Martinez interview with Jay the first time he heard Ether you would know he was upset by it. Not mad, just upset and on the verge of tears. He responded with one of the nastiest diss tracks ever. Supa Ugly came right after the passing of Nas mother so it didn't actually hit Nas because he was so emotionally numb at the time. It did hit him when Jay Z's mother forced him to call and apologize. The first verse has Jay claiming Nas ran away from a fight because Jay had Beanie Sigel and Memphis Bleek with him, but neither has backed up the story. The second claims Nas had his chain stolen and JT The Bigga Figa bought it back for him, but again nobody backed Jay on this. That third verse, well that shit is all true. Here are some bars from Supa Ugly, it may not be the greatest diss of all time, but it was the most disrespectful:

Me and the boy A.I. got more in common than just balling and rhyming, Get it? More in Carmen, I came in your Bentley backseat, skeeted in your Jeep, left condoms on your baby seat.

That's the part that had Jay Z's mother force him to apologize. Yes it's true, he did sleep with the mother of Nas' first child Carmen Bryan, and so did Allen Iverson. In fact a lot of people did, she wrote a book about it. The thing is, the book was flattering to Jay either. During interviews she claimed that most of the time they spent together wasn't having sex in Nas' vehicles. It was him asking increasingly personal questions about Nas. She claimed that it was almost as if Jay wanted to be Nas best friend.

Jay goes on to make reference to the fact that Nas already knew about the affair but was trying to keep quiet so as not to ruin his street cred. This was the last diss in beef that most people look at and it just wasn't the last one. It did however bring a lot of things to the front that caused Jay and Nas to spill their hearts on tracks about how they really felt.

Jay Z - Blueprint 2 - This is Jay's last dissin the feud. He actually promised to diss Nas every year until Nas quit rapping. The instrumental is probably one of my favorite's of all time, but lyrically, Jay just comes off bitter at Nas, Rosie Parez, Prodigy and a lot of other people. The track equates to "Why y'all don't love me like y'all love him." It sounds petty and that's probably why Jay didn't go through with his promise to diss Nas every year, after hearing Nas' response with "Last Real Nigga Alive." Jay sounds bitter, but he does bring up some good points. Rosie Perez wrote an article for XXL applauding Nas for his lyrics praising women of color and shaming Jay Z for his overuse of the words "bitch and hoe," which Nas also uses, just to a much lesser extent, especially at the time. Jay states:

I'm sorry Miss Rosie Perez, I call a spade a spade, it just is what it is, but you can't give cred to anything dude says, same dude to give you ice and you owe him some head, shorty, it's time to wake up the dead, you sound a little naive in them articles that I read

He's got a point. Nas will do songs like "The American Way" where he defends black women and turn around and drop songs like "The Makings of a Perfect Bitch" on the same album. Jay also brings up a good point when bringing up charities. This is the first and last time Jay ever mentioned his giving to charity on a song. Jay states:

Can't y'all see that he's fake, the rap version of T.D. Jakes, prophesizing on your CDs and tapes. Won't break you a crumb of the little bit that he makes and this is with whom you want to place your faith. I put dollars on mine, ask Columbine, when the Twin Towers dropped, I was the first in line, donating proceeds off every ticket sold, when I was out on the road, that's how you judge Hov, no? Ain't I supposed to be absorbed in myself? Every time there's a tragedy, I'm the first one to help, they call me this misogynist, but they don't call me the dude to take his dollars to give gifts at the projects. These dudes is all politics, depositing checks, they put in they pocket, all you get in return is a lot of lip and y'all buy the shit, caught up in the hype

Jay is right, he does donate a ton of money to charity, then and now. Nas donates to charity as well, but not on the same levels. However, to be fair to Nas he has always been about creating economic equality through building businesses from the ground up. While Jay has purchased business and made a lot of money from them, the number Nas has invested in is ridiculous. Nas actually owns Queensbridge Venture Partners where he invests in different small businesses. As of 2015 Nas managed to get in on the ground floor in over 40 businesses including; Bevel, Dropbox, Lyft, Lookout and many more.

Jay has good points but the reason people thought he sounded bitter was his flustered and angry tone as well as bars like:

You opened the door god, I'm at you annually

Cause the nigga wear a kufi, it don't mean that he bright, cause you don't understand him, it don't mean that he nice, it just means you don't understand all the bullshit that he write

Since I will not lose, they try to help him cheat

I will not lose, for even in defeat, there's a valuable lesson learned, so it evens up for me

I'm a legend, you should take a picture with me

You should be happy to be in my presence

This was probably my favorite diss track from Jay. If he had started the beef saying this stuff it wouldn't have been as debated about who won. Instead he waited until his feelings were hurt to actually say these things.

Nas - Last Real Nigga Alove - So this is Nas putting the all of his beef to rest. Not because he gives up but because he's tired of it. For some perspective it comes from his album God's Son. Nas' mother had just passed and he had actually retired from music at this point. However before his mother passed she asked that he never stop making music. The result was God's Son featuring a different Nas more focused on trying to enjoy life than past problems.

The first verse features Nas explaining how he met BIG and Diddy as well as what led to their beef. In this case it was because Nas was too passive. He let other people drag him into a beef he wanted nothing to do with and this one actually hurt because he considered him and BIG to be friends. He opens the verse with:

Y'all don't know about my Biggie wars, who you thought "Kick In The Door" was for? But that's my heart, y'all still tripping off the Jigga shit

If you listen to "Kick in The Door" that first verse is about Nas and uses the same Leprechaun bars that Jay Z would recycle on "Takeover." Nas never even responded to the track before "Last Real Nigga Alive" because he was too upset about it.

The second verse touches on a lot of issues. The big one here is Nas admitting Carmen cheated on him with more than Jay Z and it was Nas' own fault because he didn't pay her any attention. He's also not mad about it anymore which is a big jump from his song "The Cross" earlier in the album. Then he talks about Jay. Nas was spending time with his mother when "Takeover" dropped and he understands why Jay did it. Nas believes Jay did it because Jay wanted to be the top rapper in New York and for that to happen, Nas had to be taken out. But Nas goes on to say, he doesn't care about chasing that crown, because as he stated in verse 1 king of New York brought him nothing but problems and lost friends. The big kick here is how Nas ends it:

I was Scarface, Jay was Manolo, it hurt me when I had to kill him and his whole squad for dolo

If you've ever seen the movie Scarface, Manolo is the best friend of Tony the title character. Tony kills Manolo after he sleeps with Tony's sister. Despite Tony always thinking Manolo was soft killing him actually did hurt Tony. In this case, Nas had been friends with Jay. Large Professor backed this up. Large Professor also stated that there where three other versions of "Ether" that Nas scrapped because they went too far with lines like "It should have been you who died in that plane crash instead of Aaliyah." So yeah, Nas was hurt and he was done with the beef because.

The End

So that's the history of Jay and Nas. The next thing that happened was Jay became president of Def Jam and immediately signed Nas to one of the biggest contracts in the label's history. They followed it up by closing out Jay Z's "I Declare War" concert together after Jay had brought a bunch of rappers together to end their beefs. Then they did a bunch of songs together and hang out now. It's weird seeing Jay and Beyonce at Nas birthday party or Nas at the openin

2. Do you like to use the term queer for yourself? Or just LGBT, etc?

Yeh. It gives me room to just fuck around and let things come and go as they please.

Nadji doesn't. Not that it hasn't resonated with him, he's just never thought about it. And he doesn't feel the need to. He doesn't do a lot of research when it comes to labels, so it usually just boils down to "I be fucking." Or nothing at all. Nobody ever knows who he's actually interested in until they know.

Remi does identify as queer. They're heavy into queer theory, reads all the time, keeps up with the discourse, the labels and new language. Like, they really bout they shit. They see it as an opportunity for folks to ask them "what does that mean to you?" and then they personalize it (similarly to me).

4. Are you "out" to your family and friends?

Me: Yeah, sure.

Nadji: What that mean

Remi: I had no interest in coming out, but they know.

6. (If you're out) do you wish you came out sooner? Later? Or was it the right time?

Nah. If it was up to me, I would have told no one. Coming out is an annoying concept, especially with my experience. I'd rather just let folks find out or just say "yeah, call me that. end of discussion," if we're talking about gender-affirming things like name changes.

Nadji just came home with a dude (more like a lineup of dudes) one day and let his folks figure it out, lol. I think the only person he had a conversation with was his momma, Nadie, and she initiated it. But, it was casual, and her goal was to talk about sex ed so wasn't much of a convo. Nadie is also bisexual so she wouldn't make a big deal out of it anyway. Now, does he wish that he brought dudes he was dating around sooner or later? Ask him and he'd joke and say he wouldn't have brought them around at all, but I think that Nadji has a lot of guilt for how he's treated past partners since he's on the aro spectrum and didn't know what was up until much later. A lot of people just called him a player. They still do. He tries not to think about it.

Remi told everyone about their name change during the summer before their sophomore year of high school. It was a non-negotiable. Either you call me by my name, and respect my pronouns or we not talking (Remi: except for Mama). They have no regrets when they did it. It was the right time because they has figured it out. Plain and simple.

8. Describe your gender without using any words traditionally related to gender:

Me: Outchea

Nadji: Nigga

Remi: It changes weekly with producer tags. Right now it's Mustardonthebeathoe. (Please click the link, I'm crying.)

10. Something that gives you gender euphoria (whether you're cis or trans):

Me: Already answered.

Nadji is a cis man, but he's had a time with gender growing up. People often thought he was a girl when he was little (his hair used to be real long and he has wild lashes), and he's been called pretty his whole life, but then he got that stocky frame and people were like you real macho. He just vibes. He wouldn't be aware of this but he gets a lot of gender euphoria from not having to think about gender at all. He can just be a clown in whatever way that manifests. Also, when P-Funk comes on, he feels it too? Very specific but the funk is just affirming like that, lol.

Remi like wearing those close-fitted tees with the circle neck and real short sleeves with baggy pants. It always does it. Or just a good ole white beater. They also like when they're doing things that makes them feel more connected to their body. They love handy work, love lifting things. Also, wrestling/play-fighting.

12. Name some queer artists/bands or songs you like most:

Imma let my babies have it because I listen to everything the listen to.

Nadji: frank ocean, tyler the creator, steve lacy, blood orange, anddd omar apollo.

Remi: takes a deep breath in moses sumney, serpentwithfeet, cupcakke, mayal, closegood, meshell ndegeocello, jamila woods, swsh, bbymutha, sienna liggins, intro (kenny green was bi), big mama thorton, adrian kain, baby tate, jackie shane, I could go on but I will stop.

14. How do you think other factors like neurodivergency or upbringing have impacted your identity?

It all affects it. I could be here all day talking about this, but I'll let them have it.

Nadji: few seconds delay Oh shit, you mean me or- points to Remi who uses they/them pronouns

Remi: slides in front of Nadji so they're completely blocking him As a black autistic arospec anti-fascist they/them dyke (sights to me nodding in the background) there are many things that work together to help me define my queerness. I don't see it as one identity in the middle with the other identities connected to it by branches. They all exist within, without, around, and beside each other, always in harmony. That is all.

16. Do you attend Pride in person every year?

I used to, but stopped once it got really crowded, intense, and commercialized.

Nadji: Hell yeah. Wouldn't be the same without ya boy, you feel me starts smiling

Remi: as soon as the question is asked No.

18. How old were you when you got to attend your first Pride? Who did you go with?

I have no idea how old I was, but it was over the age of 21 lol. I went with a cousin.

Nadji was 20. He went with his art crew.

Remi went once with a friend once the parade was finishing up, stayed for like 20 minutes, if even that, and dipped. Like, dipped forevermore.

20. Do you feel like you "fit in" with the queer/Pride community overall?

At times I don't, but generally, yeah. Also, the more that I grow into myself, the more I don't mind not fitting in. I've been in a lot of spaces where I've felt and been excluded because of how I look. A lot of times it's been because of white queers not perceiving me as queer-presenting enough. Which is so funny because the events I go to are usually said to be for queer and trans people of color, (and usually said to be free for trans black folx) which I am both. White people often annoy me. This is not new information.

Nadji doesn't care until someone makes him hyperaware of it. It's more so about him feeling left out, period. That's him in any space since he likes the attention.

Remi doesn't, but they've never really cared. And it's not because they're not embraced in queer spaces. It's more so that the way people embrace them isn't embracing them, it's an idea of them. And phew, that is loaded. Perhaps I'll talk more about it another time.

22. How do you usually celebrate Pride month?

Being outside, lol. But living in New York while also having an overnight job is making that difficult at the moment. This is the first year that I'm like loud loud about it because I'm like....openly trans. Majority of my family knows, I'm in the process of getting my name changed legally, and I feel really secure in who I am. I bought my first flag pendant necklace and that's like huge for me. So, yeah. Definitely a really important pride month.

Nadji: We outside. (For the folks who need it, this can mean many of things. And Nadji indeed means all the things.)

Remi: With my folx. (As long as Remi has people they love around, they good.)

24. Do you practice any religion, if so how does it play into your LGBT identity? Do you feel welcomed by your spiritual community?

I don't feel like sharing that right now.

Nadji, nah. He definitely believes in divinity and it has a place in his life, but he hasn't explored it.

Remi, my babyyyy. Yeah, Black American folk magic plays a huge part in their everyday and their identity. As a non-human, which is what they originally started as, they have they ability to communicate with spirits and I associate them with Hoodoo and its practices. For the past couple of weeks, I've been getting an email every Sunday at 12AM exactly, like it's scheduled.

Taehyun kept telling me not to open them 'cause they could be viruses, but I'm dumb (as he likes to playfully remind me), so I didn't listen to him.

I opened one a few weeks ago, which led to opening all the ones I'd received up to that point. And now I'm sitting here, anxiously scrawling down whatever I can while waiting for the next one to show up. My leg is shaking like crazy.

They weren't spam like I originally thought. They're very well thought-out and written with love. Each email is an instruction manual of how to fall in love with (Y/F/N).

I wouldn't say we're friends, but we know each other from high school (which is something I've tried to leave far, far behind me), and we talk sometimes.

We have one or two overlapping classes, but we're not lunch buddies by any means necessary. She's nice enough. I remember her making chocolates for me once for a school-wide Secret Santa thing we did.

They were pretty good. Nothing to write home about, though.

But for some reason, someone out there who signs off all their emails with the phrase "sincerely, your fellow Choi", seems to want me to think that she's got a massive crush on me and we're a match made in heaven.

At first, I thought it was silly—maybe a prank from one of her friends or something. But y'know how you just get vibes sometimes? It just feels too absurd not to be true.

I'm not saying I've fallen for her just because of a few emails, but I am saying I've learned a lot about her through these email, and I can't really tell if that's creepy or not.

How is it that I've never once noticed her before reading these emails? She's been walking in and out of my life for well over 6 years, yet I've never given her a second thought.

She was always just there, doing her own thing. She had her friends, and I had mine—if you could really call them that. None of them cared enough to keep in touch with me after high school.

I don't know why this random Choi is trying to get me interested in this girl from a past that I'm trying to forget, but I'd be lying if I said it wasn't working.

Oh! Hold up.

The new email just came. Gotta go—I'll try to write more tomorrow.

Okay, so obviously, I forgot to write more yesterday. My bad. But no one's ever gonna see this anyway, so it's okay.

This works out though, 'cause I did something kinda crazy today. I decided to join the art club, 'cause (Y/N)'s a part of it. Taehyun thinks I'm insane, and Kai kindly reminded me that I can barely draw a stick figure, but I think this will be good for me in the long-run.

I can get closer to her in my own time, and I can see what she's actually like—not just what the emails want me to believe.

And maybe I can finally face high school again in a new light. Maybe now that I'm an adult, I won't be so scared.

April 19th, Tuesday 6:22 PM

Art is way harder than expected. I thought I'd pick it up pretty fast, but nah. I was wrong. This looks like chicken scratch.

On the upside, I talked to (Y/N) today. She could tell I was struggling, so she scooched over and whispered some shading tips while the team leader went over the assignment. She even offered to give me some drawing lessons on the weekends.

She didn't ask why I joined an art club, even though I'm a terrible artist.

It was nice. She was nice.

And she wasn't like how I remembered. I remembered someone more rambunctious and self-assured, and I guess that's why she always intimidated me.

Not to say she's not self-assured now, just more quiet about it. I can't tell if she's grown up, or if she's changed.

I also can't figure out why I haven't done either of those things yet.

April 23th, Saturday 3:00 PM

I had my first drawing lesson with (Y/N) today. She's such a good artist—it's kind of scary.

The emails keep talking about this hidden crush she's got on me, but I don't know if I fully believe it. I don't think I make her nervous at all.

She just smiles and talks and hums while she sketches. I don't seem to have an affect on her. She's just nice to me, like she is to everyone else.

And for some reason, that upsets me. The emails have been so accurate about everything else—her favorite colors, her hobbies, her favorite song, her allergies—yet it feels like they got her feelings for me all wrong.

I don't know why I'm upset about this. I've already told myself I'm not catching feelings, just seeing for myself what all the fuss is about. But still... I'm a little disappointed.

I guess I just expected more.

Wow, I kinda forgot about this. It's been a while since my last entry, but don't worry—it's for a good reason. (Y/N) and I have actually been hanging out a lot these days, and it's been fun.

Most of the time, it's for club things or art lessons, but sometimes we walk to class together or grab some coffee. And remember how I said we weren't lunch buddies? Well, we are now.

And we get along pretty well! She's funny. And I'm starting to think the crush thing might be more accurate than I thought.

I don't have any solid proof, but sometimes I swear I can feel her staring at me when she thinks I'm not paying attention. And she's always respectful of my personal bubble, yet tries to sit as close to me as possible without touching.

Maybe I'm reading too much into it, or maybe it's my man brain trying to convince me, "oh yeah, dude. She's for sure into you", but either way, I'm kinda hoping I'm right.

In these few weeks I've spent truly noticing her and having her in the forefront of my life instead of on the sidelines, I've realized that I wouldn't hate it if she had a crush on me.

In fact, I'd be honored. She's cool.

May 30th, Monday 7:45 AM

This is gonna be a short entry 'cause I'm already late for class, but I just had to jot this down real quick in case I forget.

I think I figured out who the 'fellow Choi' is. The emails reminded me that (Y/N)'s close to that jock guy, Choi Yeonjun. They've been friends and neighbors since they were little, and he went to the same high school as us, just a year ahead.

I vaguely remember him as one of the hooligans she used to skateboard around with, but the memory's fuzzy.

I've seen them hanging out before, but I didn't realize they were that tight. If there's anyone who would know that much about her, it'd be him. I'm gonna confront him tomorrow, so we'll see what happens.

May 31st, Tuesday 5:53 PM

Yeah, so that whole confronting thing? It didn't go so well. I now have confirmation that he's not the fellow Choi, but I also have a bloody nose, so I don't know if I've accomplished anything.

It was a real 'one step forward, two steps back' kind of situation. From what I've seen of him around campus, he seems like a very chill, friendly guy, and you can tell he cares for (Y/N) like a brother.

So you can imagine my surprise when I said 'hi' and his first reaction was to grab me by the collar, shove me against a brick wall, and sock me in the nose.

What I hate most was the eyes it attracted. I just know there's gonna be rumors about us fighting for (Y/N)'s hand or some crap.

All in all, something tells me he doesn't like me. He told me to stay away from (Y/N) if I didn't have the 'right intentions'.

His exact words were, "The Chois in her life have already given her enough shit, and if you add on to that, I swear to God, I'll break so much more than your nose."

It was definitely a change from the guy I'd seen ruffling (Y/N)'s hair and giving her noogies while complimenting her latest artwork and calling her a nerd.

I'm scared and angry, for sure, but also just confused. I feel like there's more to this story that I'm not getting or hasn't been revealed to me yet. I feel left behind.

And also, I wish he'd been more clear as he threatened me. What are my intentions supposed to be?

'Cause I think I'm falling for her. And if that's not Choi Yeonjun approved, how am I just supposed to just stop these feelings from growing?

Would it even be possible at this point?

I emailed back the fellow Choi the other day. I wanted to see if they knew what I did to hurt (Y/N) and Yeonjun in the past.

They never answered.

(Y/N) made Yeonjun apologize to me. Not gonna lie, it was a little gratifying to see that tough guy all humbled and grumbly while she glared up at him and demanded an apology.

All-in-all, even though it was forced, he seemed pretty genuine. He even asked how my nose was doing. I told him it wasn't broken, and I think (for the most part) there are no lingering hard feelings between us.

Except for the ones he's hiding from me—the ones that I assume have been there for a long time. And he must've said something to (Y/N), 'cause she's been weird too. Not mean or cold, just distant. Lost in her thoughts, even when we're together.

I wonder if he brought up some memories from the past that she'd forgotten or repressed. I kind of resent him for that a little, 'cause things were going well between us, and now I don't know what to do with my feelings.

They're getting too strong to keep inside, but would it be insensitive to confess now? I don't even know anymore. I'm so confused.

More than anything, I just wanna know what I did. I must've been either really self-absorbed or incredibly insecure in high school, because I'm coming to realize that I never really noticed anyone.

It was always just me in my little bubble, and even with my friends, I never let them get too close. As I'm writing this, I also kinda realize that I'm the only person stopping myself from making genuine connections with others.

And that pretty much decides it for me. I'm gonna confess to her this weekend—just you watch.

June 19th, Sunday 10:30 PM

Today might be one of my favorite days ever. I spent the whole day with (Y/N), and for the first time in a while, it didn't feel awkward.

I would kind of consider this our first date. We went out for breakfast, then we talked for hours and realized, "Oh, we should probably get lunch." And after lunch, we didn't wanna say goodbye, so we decided to go for a walk. "Work off the calories," she said.

By that time, we were hungry again, so she invited me to her dorm for an improvised snack dinner. It certainly wasn't gourmet, but it was tasty, and it was fun to make it together.

She looked so pretty. She didn't even do anything special—she just looked nice. So I told her. Then one thing led to another, and I was rambling and going on and on, and then I finally got it out.

Those three words I'd been trying to spit out all day. "I like you."

And guess what? She likes me too. She actually, genuinely likes me. And before I left, you know that she did? She gave me a kiss on the hand.

Not on the cheek, not on the lips, but on my hand. I've never gotten butterflies like that before. It's so weird to think that now... I have a girlfriend. It's wild.

It was really cool seeing her place, too. I remembered her skateboarding back in high school (hard to forget with the emails proudly remind me every five seconds), but she actually has medals and stuff from competitions she entered in with her old team.

Yeonjun was on that team too, apparently. She had a framed picture of them proudly showing off their second place trophy with their arms slung over each other's shoulders.

Cute picture. A little small for the frame, though. Maybe I should get her a new one.

July 10th, Sunday 12:15 AM

I think I just got the last email. It felt ominous, like a permanent goodbye. "I can't have her back anymore, so I'm leaving it up to you. If you haven't fallen for her at this point, please at least just be her friend. I'm sure Yeonjun's all she's got. Be good to her."

And as always, signed off with that 'sincerely, your fellow Choi'. I'm not sure why, but when I read it this time, I got goosebumps all over my body.

It was like I'd been talking to a ghost. They were there, and then they were gone—like a cool breeze or a puff of smoke.

It feels empty.

September 3rd, Saturday 9:45 PM

(Y/N) got mad at me for the first time today. We were doing some studying at her place, and I was admiring the pictures and medals on her wall while she was in the bathroom.

But I'm a klutz, so of course, I ended up knocking something over. It was that framed picture of her and Yeonjun. The glass shattered and the back fell out, and I swear I felt my heart drop into my stomach.

All I could think was 'shit, shit, I just broke the important thing', and like a little kid, my first thought was to get rid of the evidence.

Now, realistically, there was nothing I could do about the glass in such a short time, but I thought if I could just pop the panel back on and make sure the framing wasn't damaged...

But that's when I noticed the picture, slightly peeking out from the broken frame. It was too small because it had been folded.

I wasn't trying to pry. I wasn't trying to look at it.

But it was there, unfolded right in front of me. And I could see that in the previously folded up corner, (Y/N) had her arm wrapped another guy. A guy with longish black hair, his nose scrunched up by a big, toothy grin, and a skateboard pinned under his arm.

The three of them looked so happy together. A perfect little trio. And when I looked at the guy, I couldn't help but feel a sense of familiarity.

When (Y/N) finally came out, she blew up at me. I couldn't tell if it was because of the fact that I broke her frame, or because I saw the other half of that picture.

Now, (Y/N)'s not a petty person, so if I had to guess... I'd say it was the latter. I wanna know who he is. I wanna know why he feels so familiar. And I wanna know why he hurts her so much.

So much so that she would fold him out of a picture, but not find it within herself too throw it away.

But I'm dumb, so I didn't say any of those things. We just argued. I stormed out.

I regret it.

September 7th, Wednesday 4:32 PM

We've made up. That's what we say, anyway. But it's awkward, with just a hint of tension.

I've tried talking it out with her, asking about that guy, but she says she doesn't want to talk about it.

I'm not experienced enough for this. I don't know what's right. I don't know when to push and when to let it lie.

I'm scared to mess this up.

Soobin laid dead asleep in his room, disturbed by an incessant tap-tap-tap.

With a groan, he rolled over in bed, flipping on his bedside lamp and instinctively checking the time on his phone. Two in the morning. He groaned again as the tapping only became more insistent.

In his bleary daze, he managed to glance at the window, doing a double-take as he saw a shadowy figure outside of it. His eyes widened, pulling the sheets up and over his nose as slowly as possible. The tapping stopped, and he could’ve sworn he saw the figure sigh.

Moments later, his phone buzzed with a notification.

“It’s me, coward,” the notification read.

With a start, he jumped up, swinging his window open with expert speed, successfully shocking the person on the other side of the glass. “(Y/N)!” he gasped, grabbing her wrists and pulling her back towards him as she lost her balance.

He reared backward, pulling her into the room and landing them both on the bed with a thump, Soobin splayed flat on his back and (Y/N) nestled somewhat comfortably into his shoulder. “What were you doing on the roof, you idiot?” he asked, hands instinctively going to rub up and down her back.

“I didn’t wanna wake your roommates...” she said sheepishly. “They probably heard me scream, though.”

Soobin shook his head, biting back the chuckle that rose in his throat. “Nah, don’t worry too much,” he said. “They sleep like rocks.” He took a moment to bask in the silence between them. This was the most carefree they’d been together in a while. “So what brings you here this cold evening?”

She propped herself up a little, examining his face with a hint of something in her eyes. He didn’t want to jump to conclusions, but maybe guilt? She cupped his cheek.

“Have I ever told you why I like you?” she asked softly. Soobin only shook his head. “It’s ‘cause you care so much more than you think you do. You’re so humble, and you always underestimate yourself, but you’re the coolest, most kindest guy out there.” He felt butterflies whirl up in his stomach like the first time she kissed his hand. “I just needed to tell you that.”

Soobin could feel himself tearing up, but he willed himself to suck it in. “Well... Thank you,” he said. He wanted to say anything else. He wanted to list all the reasons he liked her and how he’d started finding peace and self-acceptance through her, but no words came out—like a blubbering fish out of water.

“Can I introduce you to someone?” (Y/N) asked, seemingly to instinctively know that he wouldn’t be able to get anything out.

Soobin blinked in confusion. “What, like... right now?” he asked.

She nodded. “If we don’t do this now, I’m worried I’ll get too scared again.”

Now, he could give a million viable excuses on why he couldn’t go. He’s tired, he has early morning classes, it’s nearly freezing—but none of that mattered. He wanted to do whatever she wanted to do.

It’d easily been an hour, and they were only getting further from the familiar territory of their campus grounds. Soobin could feel himself dozing off again, but he urged himself not to. Even if he felt like shit in the morning, he was gonna stay awake for this.

“Where are we goin’?” he asked from the passenger seat of (Y/N)’s dumpy old car that stubbornly refused not to die, like a spiteful great-aunt.

“We’re almost there,” she said cryptically, gripping the steering wheel ever so slightly tighter. “Just give it a sec. It’s on the left.”

Soobin blinked hard and mussed up his hair, trying to make himself more presentable. He was still in his pajamas, so the least he could do would be to look awake. He glance at all the signs as they passed by buildings, each one of them not likely to be their stop.

When she finally slowed down and flicked on her blinker, Soobin’s heart dropped, the words ‘columbarium’ staring him in the face like the barrel of a gun. “(Y/N)—” he started.

She shook her head. “Don’t say anything yet,” she instructed gently. “Just wait till we get inside.” She took a pause while she put the car in park. “And hold my hand. I haven’t been here in a while.”

With her hand tightly grasped in his and the car locked behind them, they made their way into the building. Already, it was a sad, humbling atmosphere—seeing all the urns, photos, bouquets, and letters from family pinned up on the wall. There was so much love and sorrow, all contained in one place.

Finally, (Y/N) stopped in front of one specific niche. ”Meet Beomgyu,” she said, a slight tremor in her voice. “One of my best friends, and your fellow Choi.” In the picture frame behind the cage of glass stood a very familiar boy with longish black hair, a toothy grin, and a crinkled nose.

Soobin looked at her with wide eyes. “How did you—?”

“You left your diary at my place,” she said. “I’m sorry I was nosy, but I couldn’t help but read it. And by doing that, I realized how much I’ve been making you suffer on your own, and I’m so sorry.” She gripped his hand tighter, making eye contact with him. “Will you forgive me?”

His heart ached. “There’s nothing to forgive, honestly...” he said, voice barely above a whisper. It felt rude to speak any louder in a place full of the deceased.

“You don’t have to lie to make me feel better, y’know,” she said. “It’s not a fair relationship if we’re always walking on eggshells around each other. So I’ll share some of my scars with you tonight, and you can share yours when you’re ready. I might not get all your questions answered, but I'll start.”

He felt his chest tighten. He couldn’t help but feel grateful to Choi Beomgyu for leading him to such a great girl.

He nodded. “Okay,” he said. “I promise I'll do the same for you later.” He looked back at Beomgyu’s picture. The longer he looked at it, the more bits and pieces of memories from high school came flooding back in.

(Y/N), Yeonjun, and Beomgyu. The kids who always rode into school on their skateboards, zooming past everyone on the way through the front gates while laughing and shouting jokes at each other. Soobin was pretty separate from their friend group, but out of all of them, he was most familiar with Beomgyu.

He was the class clown. Everyone loved him, and he loved making everyone laugh—even at his own expense. Yeonjun was always the one to back him up with a smile on his face, even when he called him a dumbass. And (Y/N) was always the one following quietly behind them, cleaning up thier messes.

But she never seemed to mind. She didn’t even care that as they walked down the halls, people would call out “Hey, Beomgyu!” or “Hey, Yeonjun!”, but no one ever called out for her.

“Tell me about him,” Soobin said.

She took a deep breath. “I don’t even know where to start.”

“How’d you become friends?”

She cracked a little smile, though he could still see the pain lacing it from the scabbed over wound on her heart that had yet to fully heal. “Yeonjun and Beomgyu were nextdoor neighbors, I lived across the street,” she said. “Their mom’s were best friends, and I moved to the neighborhood with my folks later on. Y’know how moms always want you be comfortable and have friends you can count on?”

Soobin chuckled. “For sure,” he said. “Even if I got a terrible report card, my mom’s first instinct was still to scold me on how I didn’t put in enough effort to make friends.”

“My mom was the same,” she said. “So about a week after we moved in, she said, ‘C’mon! Let’s go say hi to the neighbors’ sons!’ I was shy and I didn’t wanna go, but God, am I glad I did. They were both at Beomgyu's place, and as soon as I got through the front door, they dragged me upstairs to play Mario Kart and then outside to shoot each other with nerf guns.”

Her smile grew, more genuine this time. “I didn’t have time to be nervous, not with their hyper-active asses. From that point on, we basically grew up together. They were like my big brothers. Whatever they did, I wanted to do it too. That’s why I started skating, y’know.”

“Now, Beomgyu... I don’t even know how to describe him. He was like a whirlwind, y’know? He was crazy, confident, a little overzealous at times, but sweet. He always remembered the little things about you, and even though his loudness could be a little annoying at first, once he went quiet with you, you felt like something was missing."

She sighed through her nose. "I miss his voice," she said rawly, as if she hadn't allowed herself to admit that for the past couple of years.

“The three of us went through life, did everything together, talked about how we were gonna get matching tattoos once we graduated, and then one day, we were all skating—practicing for a competition, actually—and Beomgyu fell.” Her voice grew quieter at the end.

“Beomgyu never fell. He said he felt dizzy and his head hurt. We thought he must’ve hit it on the way down, so we rushed him off the the hospital—a bunch of scared teenagers. And that’s where they discovered it. A weird hybrid type of acute myeloid leukemia.”

Soobin squeezed her hand tighter. She appreciated it. “Most people live at least 5 years after being diagnosed, but Beomgyu didn’t have that time. It was too late and too developed. He had a little under a year.”

Soobin’s heart ached. No wonder it was painful memory. She lost her best friend when she was just a kid. “That must’ve been awful for you,” he whispered, stepping a little closer to her, just to let her feel his warmth.

“It was,” she agreed softly. “What’s worse though is that I spent those last 6 months lying straight to his face.”

Soobin gave her a questioning look.

“Yeonjun cornered me one day. Told me that Beomgyu had been in love with me for a few years, but I never even noticed,” she said. In Soobin’s head, that made sense. And it explained the affection behind the emails’ tone. “And he never confessed ‘cause he didn’t wanna mess up our friendship, and then he thought he’d lost his shot, ‘cause I started crushing on you.”

“But Yeonjun looked me straight in the eyes as we stood by a vending machine in the hospital at almost 11:30 one night and said, ‘Beomgyu’s gonna confess to you tonight. Please accept him’.”

She let out a dry laugh at the memory. “I didn’t know what to say. It’s not that I was disgusted by the thought of being with him or that I was particularly hung up on you—I just thought you were cute at that point—but I just didn’t feel... anything. No sparks. And that’s not how love’s supposed to be.”

“So I though I’d turn him down gently,” she continued. “Knowing Beomgyu, I thought he’d be happy to just get it off his chest, and then we could spend his last few months as we always had. The unbeatable trio.”

She leaned her head on Soobin’s shoulder, feeling drained and tired. “But when I got into his room, he’d prepared flowers, and balloons, and a handwritten letter, and a big romantic speech, and I just...

She nuzzled closer into his shoulder. "I didn’t have the heart. He’d never had a girlfriend before, and I couldn’t help but feel like it was all my fault. Maybe he was waiting for me and I just never got to that point. So I accepted him. I’ve never seen him look so relieved. He almost cried.”

“So I went six months... Pretending to be in love with him. But I think he knew. I think he knew my heart wasn’t in it, and that’s what made it even worse. He would apologize all the time with that sad smile on his face, and it just made me feel even worse.”

“So I tried harder to be a good girlfriend, made myself feel even worse, argued with Yeonjun all the time ‘cause I felt like he was only thinking about Beomgyu, and overall, I just screwed everything up. He had less than a year left with us and I wasted it lying to him. I didn’t even do it well. It all felt pointless.”

“Especially when I knew for sure he knew. He told me he was gonna repay me someday for helping him live out his short dream, even though it was hard for me. I guess he held up his end.”

She looked up, meeting eyes with Soobin, his dark orbs damp with sympathy. “He gave me you, the crazy bastard. Guess he knew five years would probably be enough for me not to totally hate myself anymore,” she chuckled. “That way, I could love properly again.”

She looked back at the niche, staring intently at Beomgyu’s portrait, as well as the smaller pictures laid out around it. Pretty much all of them had herself and Yeonjun inside of them, right next to Beomgyu and his dopey grin.

“He never let me kiss him,” she said. “I tried, but he never let me. He always joked and said ‘cooties’, but I know it’s ‘cause he didn’t want me to waste my first kiss on a lie. He was good like that.”

Without him realizing it, Soobin had started crying. Not a harsh sob or a broken whimper, just thick tears pouring out of his stinging, red eyes. He couldn’t tell if he was saddened by the story or thankful for the gesture.

Wordlessly, he faced the niche, giving a deep bow. “Thank you,” he whispered, “for giving me your best friend. I can tell how much you love her.”

In that moment, the air changed. It felt warmer.

Maybe somewhere out there, in a different timeline or dimension, Beomgyu was flashing his dopey smile, happy that another one of his hair-brained schemes worked out.

I really want a helix. Have had one twice, but I just keep having bad luck with it.

Pegasus. We became friends in 2009.

It's been a good day. Just hanging out with my parents and my brother.

A couple days ago when I listened to music I haven't heard in years. It brought back some painful memories.

My point... And I Do Have One by Ellen Degeneres is the only book I've read more than once. Wouldn't call it a favorite anymore though.

You want the truth? Not good. But I'm better than I used to be. And I'm just trying so hard to get to a point where I can honestly say that I'm happy again. It's gonna take time though and it's hard and frustrating, but I hope that in the end it will be worth it.

29. Does it take you a long time to make decisions?

Depends on what it's about. But most of the time it does take me a while.

30. What are you looking forward to in the near future?

Autumn, so I can finally start using all my scarves and beanies again!🧣

Gambino Sherpa

Look. Many of these songs have bad words. Many songs have certain words that are not for a person like myself. I acknowledge that and try to enjoy the music as a cultural expression of the artist, but in the end I know nothing.

Onto the music.

2011 "EP" (I actually listened to this album in 2011)

These are two tracks from the first album Glover released that was not a "mixtape" (where he would take existing samples and beats from the likes of Kanye and Adele and rap over them). I would have loved to put a couple mixtape tracks on here, but Spotify says nah. Anyway "EP" is aggressive and bragadocious but also nerdy with references to Goku and Blogspot vs. Tumblr and him being a writer on 30 Rock.

-Freaks and Geeks. I maintain this is the song that every Gambino fan should know and cherish. It is extremely not for the kids or the family, but I know every word and I love this song. He fully had me with the line ending in "you are just a dog walker."

-My Shine. A different vibe from Freaks and Geeks, but still some great lyrics and flows.

2011 "Camp" (yes, two albums in one year)

The album that put Gambino on the map. Still hangs out mostly in the bragadocious era, but he works with Ludwig Göransson on this album (and most of his early to mid 10s albums) and starts to really put together some unique beats and vibes that crossover between hip hop and R&B.

-Bonfire. The bragadocious song for the masses. He performed this on Fallon and it was a great intro to the world.

-Heartbeat. Standout song from the album for me. Crazy energy and production. This song on Conan was amazing. Also this was my contribution to SRHOF.

2013 "Because The Internet"

Still mostly in the hip hop zone, but starting to branch out a bit. This is maybe my least fav album as a whole. The two picks below are the way better than the rest of the album if you ask me.

-3005. An anthem rap if there ever was one? Great chorus. Great hook.

-Sweatpants. A much more creative and unique track. And the famous line about Fiskars.

2014 Kauai

My favorite Gambino album by far. I've listened to this album start to finish as much as any album by any artist in the last 10 years. An incredible combination of hip hop and R&B. Chef's kiss on every track.

-Sober. A TGP submit. A 6-star song on iTunes if such a thing were possible.

-The Palisades. The R&B lean-iest song on the album, but they're all bangers.

2016 Awaken, My Love

He takes R&B and somehow throws it back in time. Moves away from hip hop almost entirely and really tries some stuff out here.

-Redbone. His most popular song on Spotify by a factor of 3 over any other song of his. You can see why this song did well with the masses.

-California. A mostly weird song but the one that catches my ear the most from this album. And fully doing the time machine thing.

2018 This is America

A single that was never put on an album. The video must be taken in along with the music. A masterpiece in both mediums, says me.

Also the song works live. All his songs work live. Which is not a thing for many hip hop artists.

2018 Feels Like Summer

2 songs were released at once. Both representing what has become Gambino's trademark of mixing hip hop and R&B beautifully. Feels Like Summer is another pretty mesmerizing video that celebrates (in most cases) the great contemporary hip hop artists.

4 hours ago I lived one of my best moment of my life… hands down.

In context: My dad told me, I got to come see one of his artists he managed, he performed at 4bis at 21:10 but I got to get there at 20:15. Me I’m up for that like, first experience in something very interesting and industry I’ll work one day and more.

19h20 went to shower… I’m starting singing from the top of my lungs “Thinkin Bout You” “Nikes” “Self Control” “Nights” “succubus (by vinterny)”. 19h58 forgot the time went there so long but i was in my element singing my feelings out loud crying, screaming, dancing yk that feeling so now I’m checking what I’m going to wear then I found it before I was leaving the bathroom “new slaves” started but I was like for a next time I got to go

20:02 the BeReal started taken…

outside there’s a good weather and the 4bis is next to my house like 16 minutes.

20:06 so I grabbed my skateboard and went outside… phone in my hand putting the earphones in my ear while skating… playing MJ songs

20:09 then I remembered I stopped “new slaves” when I finished my shower…

20:10 I start playing “new slaves” worrying I’m not gonna make it at time… so I’m vibing and stressing but kind of enjoying the moment because I was feeling good and the weather was fine.

20:10 my dad called me to know where I’m at… “new slaves” on pause, I’m telling him I’m coming hang out the phone

20:11 skating as fast I can then… 20:12 that’s it… I know I’m gonna make it at time and when I realized it “new slaves (2:52)” that moment was like the greatest relief of my life, at this particular moment all the stress and things disappeared, I was just skating like it was my last day… enjoying every moment, every corner, the wind and all

20:14 I arrived at time

At the reception I was so lost like they told me to go there then… there then no go in the room where they are supposed to get ready then you go in front of the crowd… I was shy and lost I couldn’t let you guess how I was feeling at the time. The artist were incredible there was dancers that killed it like that was fire, rappers that really got hit in their hands something catchy that evokes good vibes and dance feelings and the artist that my dad managed was impressive he heated the stage and the place, I didn’t catch the video but I filmed it for my dad… That was incredible

21:45 went out I was supposed to get back home but nah not really feeling it so I just went skating and listening music… what a beautiful feeling

Skate+music+night+good weather = best way to end one my best moment of my life.

2022

Here we go again!

1. What did you do in 2022 that you’d never done before?

Paddle the Whanganui River, finish a degree, get Covid, keep plants alive for over a year, knit a sock, hire an employee.

2. Did you keep your New Year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?

Nah, still don’t really do those.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?

Yep. One close friend, and one other friend, as well as several acquaintances. Living that early 30s life...

4. Did anyone close to you die?

Nobody close, but several friends lost parents this year.

5. What countries did you visit?

Just around NZ. Hopefully next year, now that the borders are open again!

6. What would you like to have in 2023 that you lacked in 2022?

I’m hoping by the end of the year to have a place of my own. Maybe even one where I’m paying my own mortgage, rather than someone else’s?

7. What dates from 2022 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?

Whanganui River, Pukawa trip, Vanessa and Alister’s wedding, Milford Trip, Caitlin’s visit, Rakuira trip, Wellyfest, probably other stuff. Basically all the lovely travel away with friends.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?

Finishing a degree in Youth Development, definitely! With straight A+s to boot.

9. What was your biggest failure?

I don’t think I had any super major ones this year, which is really nice. Probably some work stuff around people management and communications of responsibilities.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?

Got Covid after the Milford trip. It was highly shit and I was down for two weeks, and still recovering for a further three months. 0/10, would not recommend.

11. What was the best thing you bought?

Travel and rips away with friends. A new tramping pack. Some lovely artwork.

12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?

I don’t know. I always find this question really hard. Most people deserve to be celebrated?

13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?

I also always find this one hard. A few of our ex-volunteers, Putin, and the general awful that is alt-right assholes.

14. Where did most of your money go?

Food, rent, travel, and the dentist.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?

Caitlin visiting. Also travel stuff, friends’ wedding, Jenny Mitchell concerts, and Vanessa starting at work

16. What song will always remind you of 2022?

I’m really not sure this year. Maybe Tug of War, by Jenny Mitchell

Going for walks outside, reaching out to friends

The usual combination of family and family friends. Lunch at family friends’ place, then an assortment of people over for dinner at my parents’ place.

Nah

Technically none, but maybe kind of one.

23. What was your favourite TV program?

Buffy. Binge watched it all for the first time, and can’t believe it took me so long!

24. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?

Not really. I don’t really do hating people, and those that would otherwise fall into the category aren’t worth my brain space.

25. What was the best book you read?

Bonk - the curious coupling of sex and science, by Mary Roach

26. What was your greatest musical discovery?

I feel like I’ve done a lot of listening to new albums from artists I already know and like this year. Maddie Poppe?

27. What did you want and get?

A degree, a bit more free time, several good adventures.

28. What did you want and not get?

Jeans that fit right

29. What was your favourite film of this year?

I haven’t really watched many movies once again. Onward?

30. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?

Turned 31. Went to work and had dinner with my family.

31. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?

Sorting out my stuff enough to be a bit further along the house buying journey? I think overall it’s been a pretty solid year for the most part, though.

32. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2022?

Jeans, leggings, t-shirts, and a fair bit of plaid. Comfortable and clean clothes are still my go-to here, and really doesn’t change on a year-to-year basis.

33. What kept you sane?

Music, podcasts, friends, colleagues, monthly supervision sessions, naps.

34. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?

I don’t think I can even name someone for this one...

35. What political issue stirred you the most?

Probably the war in Ukraine.

36. Who did you miss?

Caitlin remains top of the list. Ireland is very far away.

37. Who was the best new person you met?

Marlene and Udit, I think

38. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2022:

Trusting others’ assumptions about the priority level of different projects is not the same as confirming them with the whole team, and it’s really a lot better to be sure of this sooner, rather than at the last minute.
