"haaaaa, that was such a good book!" you sigh contentedly, laying down the newest copy of your favorite series down after multiple hours of sitting in the gym corridors as you flipped through its endless pages. the rain beyond the covered walkway you were sitting in was beating down hard, but you couldn't care less, being to engrossed in the story.
once again, (favorite character from book) never ceased to tug at your heartstrings, for they were forever being the icon they were. you'd been following that series since your first year of junior high, and now, a second year at karasuno, were still hooked on it.
it was weird to say, but you'd been pining for that character since the first time you read about him. to this day, you could never get away from the 'x reader' fanfictions of them and swore that only they would be perfect for you.
out of boredom you began scribbling, a random love letter to them, pretending like you were confessing. you put your heart and soul into it, sincerely jotting down your true feeling about them.
carefully you folded it into a paper crane, and you tucked it into your back pocket, not before signing it off with the prettiest (l/n) (y/n) in cursive.
"hey (l/n)-dork! finally finished your book and ready to give us, your real life buddies, some attention?" a voice chided jokingly. you looked up with mock annoyance to see two irritating boys, tanaka and noya, a.k.a. your best friends.
"oh? i almost forgot you guys were here," you taunted in return, only for them to fake gasp and clutch their chests. along with your book nerd duties, you were also karasuno's co-manager. you were waiting for the duo to be finished with with their extra training with their nekoma friends at camp.
oh yeah, you were at the tokyo training camp, with all the powerhouse schools from tokyo under one roof. if you could recall, they were nekoma, fukorudani, shinzen, ubugawa and of course, your very own crows.
you were waiting for the offense-defense pair outside their training gym to escort them to dinner and as you got up from your seating position on the ground, you realized a little too late that your legs had fallen asleep, and you were about to crash onto the concrete flooring.
noya, with his fast reflex skills, managed to catch you in time, with you letting down the impact brace. but your book that was perched on your lap was looked like it was inevitably going to fly into the rain.
you gasped in horror, but somehow, all the good karma you've ever received shone down, and the book landed just at the edge of the path, steering clear of rain's way. all three of you let out a breath that you didn't remember holding in, and as your trepidly got up to claim your book, a large, speeding entity came running out from the gym and into the rain. it (she? he? they? honestly, you had no clue.) unknowingly running through the book's path and kicking it straight into a puddle, screaming loud 'hey hey heys'.
"m-my b-book. s-signed e-edition," you stuttered repeatedly, clearly traumatized at the events that happened before you. the outside hitter and libero crouched near you in confusion and fear, having never needed to comfort a girl before.
"bokuto-san, you know you shouldn't play in the r- huh?" a tall, dark emerald eyed male appeared in the doorway, his attention pulled away from the soaked, gleeful ace and towards the staggered breathing girl staring into empty rain.
"tanaka-kun? noya-kun? is she ok?" he walked up to the duo awkwardly crowding the stressed girl. they looked up at him with worried eyes, and explained the current events to him.
after a lecture to the big, bumbling ace, and a loud apology from him to which you shakily accepted, the setter walked up to the the book, unsalvageable due to the pages being melted together by the water.
he saw you sitting on a bench, cradling, in attempts to convince yourself that it was all fine.
"(l/n)-san? i'm akaashi keiji, my deepest apologies for what bokuto-san has done. if it makes you feel any better, i'm a big fan of that series too," he bashfully said, fidgeting with his fingers. automatically it reminded you of your (character) crush, and for the first time, you looked up at him to see him better.
you had let out a gasp, because honestly, what (character) simp wouldn't? akaashi keiji, in all his glory, looked exactly like your book crush. tender but piercing forest eyes, a jawline that looked like it could cut, and silk-soft, midnight toned spiked locks. you should know, spending all that time on pinterest searching up '(character) fanart hot'.
"if it makes you feel any better, the author is coming to this area for a book signing, so maybe after training one of these days we could go out to the bookshop she'll be at so that i can get you a new book?" he offered, holding out a hand for you.
'argh, even his mannerisms were like (character)'s!' you dreamily thought, accepting his hand with a curt nod.
"hey, has anyone told you that you look like (character)?" the question slipped out of your lips in bliss. curse your daydreaming!1!1!
"yes, i get that sometimes," he smiled, and the creases of his eyes appeared, and in that moment, he really was proving himself to be the perfect crush.
in your opinion, in all ways was he like (character). well, almost. from years and years of being part of the fandom, you've (stalkerishly) studied (character)'s character anatomy from the start. as hot as he was, his attitude was far from that. as much as you wished you were in the same world as him and wished to be his in book significant other, you knew that he'd never like a girl like you.
but oh, akaashi keiji. he was like the kind, pure, gentle version of (character). it was like the dream package. essentially, the fanfiction version of him, where the author says that the character is 'ooc', or 'out of character'. it makes them all nice and fluffy. it made you wonder if you were living in a fanfiction as l/n y/n.
you made a mental note to change that 'dearest (charcter)' to a 'dearest akaashi'.
