as someone whos read gwenpool, how much of it do you think holds up, or when should a reader stop reading it?

Original run. Christopher Hastings of Dr McNinja fame is a seasoned VETERAN at painfully earnest lolsorandum humour. It's what he does. There are some slightly stronger entries though

-Unbelievable Gwenpool: Cream of the crop content. Some of the best side character writing I've ever seen. Read this

-Holiday Special: This one's a Christopher Hastings original. Banger

-Gwenpool Merry Mix-up: Another good one. Christmas gets all the good stuff. Second comic in this run is by Ryan North, another lolsorandom veteran.

-Rocket Raccoon and Groot: Nobody understands her. Nobody gets it. It's so dark in here. The best they could do with her gimmick was a Bendis joke and it sucked too

-Gwenpool Strikes Back: SOME OF THE WORST COMIC WRITING I'VE SEEN IN MY LIFE if anyone has ever been turned off by hearing a summary of what Gwen is about they are thinking her character is EVERYTHING IN THIS COMIC. PUTRID. Made me forget Gwenpool is good for a second. Literally one of the main conflicts in the original comic is done as a cute joke in here. I think this author may actually hate the character. I can never reread this it'll make me too angry

-West Coast Avengers: Very clearly written by someone who doesn't feel comfortable doing outrageous comedy and is also discomforted in writing interpersonal tension so they just default to giving her a love interest and uh, like, nothing else. Like she is just "the cute lighthearted one" almost entirely to gel with Quintin and kind of blends in with the others. It's a fun comic but if you're really into Gwenpool it'll probably make you mad. Like actually pissed off. You'll be like JUSTICE FOR SILLYGIRLS!!!!! kind of pissed. Anyway comic crossover events with Gwen are with the WCA run so you get god-awful Gwen writing mixed with the fact the middling MCA writing doesn't even make the whole crew a redeemable asset. 6/10

-Love Unlimited: Gwenpool: Gwen becomes canonically aromantic! I don't like the joke about Gwen's power accessing the internet but it does actually handle her abilities in a sensible way. UNBEARABLY saccharine and a lot of personality is lost in the sort of Very Special Episode Everyone Is Patient Understanding sort of way. If you want more Gwendolyn Poole you aren't getting it here but they didn't like, fuck it up. Incompetent writing by someone who genuinely understands her. Fanfic-esque in that manner. This is like the only run ever to do ok with her powers actually so a double-feature of "you get it, but you suck anyway"

Her hormones are all over the place. 

And it’s everything that Harry expects with her being heavily pregnant with the twins. She isn’t getting much sleep due to the discomfort caused. She isn’t enjoying the last few months of her pregnancy with them and she’s been much more emotional than she had been with her two previous pregnancies - but it’s everything he expected it to be like.

The one thing she wants, and craves for, really, is him. The intimacy that they once had before they had their children. The closeness they had when they could have sex whenever the feeling sprung upon them. The freedom to be able to do whatever they wanted without having to worry about feeding or changing a nappy or tucking a little one into bed after a nightmare. She loves when they get the chance to have a cuddle on the sofa, when they start sharing kisses underneath a blanket as they watch a rom-com, and she always enjoys getting a bit more frisky when the kids were well into their slumbers for the night. 

Except those nights had fallen slack. 

He leaves early in the morning and is gone before she’s even awake, taking Persephone to school on his travels to work, and arrives home in the evening and goes right to bed without a greeting kiss and a hug. He doesn’t spare her looks like he used to do and the compliments had decreased. And every time she tried to squeeze in a little loving, she was brushed aside and left to fend for herself with a “not in the mood” being thrown in her direction.

It’s deep into one night, a few weeks later, when he’s had a particularly long day filled with meetings and calls and contracts needing to be signed, that she confronts him. Standing before him at the foot of the bed, dressed in his t-shirt and a pair of laced knickers that cam with a lingerie set he’d brought for her for her birthday years back, dragging her finger around his ankle to catch his attention.

“Love, I’ve really got to get this contract read and signed by tomorrow morning. Let’s not tonight,” he hums, eyes still focused on the booklet in his hands, glasses on his face as he sat upon the duvet, “you need some sleep anyway. Heard you tossin’ and turnin’ all night last night.”

“You don’t know anything about what I need,” she mutters beneath her breath, “haven’t done for the last few weeks now. Needed you but you pushed me aside. I don’t need sleep. I need you.”

“I’m right here,” he frowns up at her, “you have me, sillygirl. Now come and get into bed and rest. You’re close to poppin’ these bubbas out and I don’t need you riskin’ a premature labour. Come on.”

“No, Harry,” she groans, rolling her head back and huffing out a heavy breath, “what is your problem? Am I not attractive anymore? You used to be all for me jumping on the opportunity of sex and surprising you when I felt like having your dick inside me. You used to love when that happened. Spontaneous sex. Now? Now it’s like you can barely spare me a glance. What? So, I get pregnant with twins and suddenly you find me unattractive?”

“That,” he chuckles, setting the contract aside and shuffling across the bed to perch himself on the corner of the mattress, “that is the biggest load of rubbish I’ve heard, sweet girl. What’s really the matter?”

“Maybe you’re getting some on the side?” She points out, a rush of anger coursing through her body and pulsing her veins as he takes a look at her with a bewildered and baffled look. A look of offence crossing his features. “Have sex through the day and can barely get yourself hard in front of your pregnant wife when she needs you. Use meetings as excuses when you’ve really booked out some hotel rooms to take your side pieces to. That’s it, isn’t it? Found yourself a pretty model to fuck whilst your wife sits at home all day with twins inside her and a son to look after.”

“Where on earth did you get that load of bullshit from?” 

“I don’t need to read or hear anything from anyone,” she watches him stand to his feet, shaking his head with a broken look upon his features, “I’m unattractive. Why fuck a huge whale when you can fuck someone much smaller than me? Much more prettier than me?”

“Will you keep your voice down? The kids are asleep,” he huffs, grabbing her hands and squeezing them tightly, “you’re delusional, Gorgeous. That’s such utter bullshit that you’ve made up in your mind. You haven’t had enough sleep, have you? Having sex right now won’t make you feel any better. It’ll make you even more tired, won’t it? You fell asleep on me when you were pregnant with Alfie.”

It’s the chuckle that leaves his mouth that sets her off into hysterics.

“Whenever you want sex or whenever you’re heard, you plead and beg until I’m on my knees and sucking your dick and having you cum down my throat. But, when I want you to satisfy me, you turn me away like I mean nothing. If you’re cheating on me, I swear I will rip you to pieces and feed your dick to the foxes,” she pushes his chest but it’s barely a nudge as her voice begins to raise in octaves, tears threatening to spill.

“Get this through your head. I am not cheating on you. Why would I ruin what we have right now by having a piece on the side?” He coos, wrapping his arms around her and pulling her close, “you’re breaking my heart accusing me of such a thing. Adultery? Is that what you think m’capable of?”

It’s quiet before she perks up.

“No,” she mumbles into his chest.

“You’re just being silly now. I’ve been so tired from work that I don’t even think I can get hard. But, that doesn’t make you the least bit attractive. If anything, I find you so much more attractive. Pregnant you is a blessing for me,” he peppers kisses to her forehead and along her hairline, “you’re so gorgeous. I sometimes wonder how we ever made it through without you being nicked from me by some hench bloke.”
