Annon-Guy: Weird aks, but have you ever delt with a friend who's 'harsh' and critical about EVERYTHING you like in regards to characters and their designs?

Say you share your love of the Guilty Gear cast, but when you show them to a group of friends, all but one says they like the characters, personality and desgin alike, when you show them. However, the one friend keeps calling all of the character designs you like trash, awful and/or garbage, showing no mercy.

I know everyone has their tastes, but do you think it can be disheartening to have something you like get critiqued in such a harsh manner instead of a respectful way?

I feel like you've been LISTENING IN ON MY CONVERSATIONS on Discord or something... I've had similar "heated" discussions with my so-called "mutuals" on these topics, especially for Strive recently.

I'll be honest, I've put up with this kind of "trash talk" for many many years... and it is hard to put up with, especially as a fan of the series as a whole.

The longer you invest time in to something you like, the more involved you get... and hearing anyone talk badly about stuff you like feels like torture somedays...

Some people have NO CONSIDERATION for the feelings of the people they vent to, it's like they might as well NOT be fans at all.

But, the truth is, there is some grey area there... so of course they like "some aspects", but it's not like it's necessary to like everything.

Troublesome as that may be, I think it's important to be honest about how you feel towards people... but sometimes it's difficult to "share the same perspectives" if people don't see where you're coming from.

I know a guy who thinks Ishiwatari betrayed him, all because he centered his "fan group" around a specific character that got changed in particular ways... and he feels like they're denying his very existence.

It's rough to feel that way about things... but I also feel like you need to develop a certain amount of "realistic detachment" from the things you're zeroed in on and the things that aren't actually "a part" of who you are as a person.

You can't expect the situation to ever be flawless or perfect, whether it's characters you like, story you like, music you like, or gameplay nuances, or other gimmicks and features... even if one thing is wrong, it can sometimes feel like the whole concept falls apart like a house of cards.

But you know... deep down that's not true.

The things you like, the things others like... while they're different, they're both somehow connected one way or other...

And that's just something you have to face and realize between each other, whether as friends, or as rivals, or just as incompatible people who agree to disagree.

You don't talk about what sets the other people off, and vice-versa... at least if you want to get along for the time being.

But, if they can't agree to at least respect your feelings, it's not like you're obligated to appeal to their thoughts yourself!

But, if there's one key thing I've learned "going out of your way to hate on stuff", is the wrong way to go about things!

I should know... at one point I had a BLOG dedicated to venting my anger... and some people might even remember it.

Being honest is one thing, but hurting others just because you're hurting is also wrong... it's an injustice.

So how do you set things right?

For starters... accept that nothing is ever perfect, no matter how great something is...

After that: acknowledge that the parts you zeroed in on are only "just one facet" of what's really going on... whether it's what you liked, or it's what you disliked.

Thirdly... BE MATURE. Being mature means you respect other peoples' feelings and perspectives, even just a little bit, try to see things from their perspective. Trash talking is out of the question, even if you're not talking about that person directly, you're still trashing stuff they like.

Fourthly, and this one's IMPORTANT: acknowledge the GOOD THINGS: BE CONSTRUCTIVE. No good idea was ever born from bad intentions. That's the truth of this world. No matter what amount of evidence may suggest otherwise.

And even in the cases that it looks like a "happy accident", consider that most ideas are actually born from failed concepts to begin with... Guilty Gear took a bunch of ideas from other stuff too, and is no exception to that rule.

So yeah, technically speaking, everything is an ENDLESS CHAIN of RECYCLED IDEAS.

Doesn't have to stop here either, no matter if you liked the game or not. But especially if you didn't like it and WANT to stop it... that sort of destructive behavior involves hurting other people.... c'mon now... don't be a party pooper!

It's called being reasonable with others... and it doesn't just apply to you, it applies to EVERYONE. Everyone should be reasonable to everyone else... how else are we gonna get along in this tiny world of ours?

There's such a thing as "getting greedy"... and sometimes people who are "angry at stuff" can overdo it and tend to wallow in their own despair.

This is just my personal experience, but... when something doesn't go your way, maybe it's a good idea to look for other ways to be happy?

Not everyone is born lucky. Sometimes you get the short end of the stick.

But taking that out on others isn't going to change things... Instead of hating on the stuff you didn't get... It's better to look for stuff you CAN OBTAIN.

If the path you walk is full of thorns, find a new path. Doesn't that sound better?

Of course, for a guy like Sol Badguy, the path of thorns was a path he just kept right on walking... until he stomped those thorns FLAT.

It takes a great deal of strength and care to be able to do that... not just anyone can do it. Maturity, wisdom, and courage too.

As for YOU, Annon-guy, I suggest you keep walking a path that suits YOU the BEST.

Sometimes you just gotta keep moving. Just be sure to let everyone who likes your ideas know... the more friends you got on your side, the easier it gets.

As for me... like Order Sol (and Sin Kiske), I'll just do my best and KEEP THE FLAG FLYING.

I'm a GG fan... always will be. Doesn't matter what others think. I'm ME. And I won't change who I am.

Same goes for everyone else.

How do you think GRRM would resolve the potential Jonrya vs. Gendrya love triangle in the books? I think Jonrya is endgame because Arya has more fondness and closeness with Jon than with Gendrya but other people think Gendrya is endgame (probably because of the lack of incest). Realistically, how do you think Gendry would react to Arya being love with Jon and do you think Gendry will be killed off like Gale from The Hunger Games?

Okay, so there are two different answers here:

Will this potential love triangle even be a thing in the books for it to need to be resolved?

No. Martin seems to no longer want to make Jonrya a thing and has been very clear when saying that Jon will eventually meet and fall for Daenerys (though it's unclear if they'll be endgame).

As for Gendry, I honestly have no idea what are Martin's plans for him. There were hints of a mutual romantic interest and I do think he'll see Arya again, I'm guessing in Winterfell, but them being a couple is not a sure thing.

So yeah, he won't "resolve" this love triangle because it likely wouldn't exist.

Would this love triangle have even been a thing in Martin's original plan for the series for it to need to be resolved?

I don't know if Gendry even existed in this original version, let alone what role he would play in the story and what kind of dynamic he'd have with Arya if they were to meet. In fact, we know Arya would be in a love triangle with Jon and Tyrion. That's how different things were.

To the surprise of no one, Arya would be with Jon because their connection was such a set-in-stone thing that it is VERY clear (and makes them real easy to ship) even in the version of the story we actually did get.

So even IF Gendry and his mutual crush with Arya were ever going to be a thing in that version of the story, it'd likely be a quick, not that significant part of the story, that would pose no real threat to Jonrya, so need for him to be killed off, or go the Gale route and have a major falling out with Arya because he accidentally killed someone she loved through some cruel war tactic that was desgined to kill innocents.

Bonus: My personal opinion on that "love triangle"

I like Gendrya, but come on. It could only ever be a thing in a world where Jon and Arya's connection is purely platonic/familial (which Martin tried to do in the books, but didn't fully accomplish if you ask me) because if Arya EVER had choose between Jon and literally anyone else on Earth, she's choosing Jon.

Hell, even in canon that's already the case. She lets go of everything that reminds her of her old life in Winterfell - except Needle, because it was the sword Jon gave to her.

Jon doesn't give up on making his vows to live on The Wall forever when he realizes life there is shit. He is tempted to break said vows for Ned, Ygritte and even to be Lord of Winterfell, but he always decides against it in the end - except when he believes Arya is in danger.

Any love triangle that involves Jonrya as one of the potential pairings is pointless and inevitably short-lived because Jon and Arya would choose each other the second they realized the feeling is mutual.

Compared to the others do you think Kennyo got the short end of the stick when it comes to his story and development?

YES, AND I'M UPSET ABOUT IT

If I want to be generous, I'd say he fell victim to the writers being like "Oh shit we have no idea what to write". The plot ended up being dull and kind of more about Kichou's shady plot. I know that they did need to introduce the season 2 characters and themes, but it felt more like filler/padding to me because the writer has nothing better to write. And it's weird, because I don't understand why they can't do better research. Just hire a separate writer that's not busy having to write story events, let them do research, and write something good.

Like, hell, there's this official Honganji website that has their teachings, the abbots' family tree, and a hell lot of other things. Didn't take much effort on my part to find this. This site has been there since 2013, that's before Cybird created Ikesen. I'm sure it won't take that long to read the stuff in it. It took me like, a day, to rifle around, because we can just skip the stuff that's about modern day events. Just knowing that Kennyo has a sister, even if little else is known about her, would've added so much fodder for drama TBH.

If I'm being spiteful, I'd say the writer is not interested in Kennyo, and they look like they were more interested in the other guys (Motonari, Kichou), and so just gave us lame shit. Like, if there's no research material that they could find, they could've bullshit something creatively, but they didn't. The story is boring and lame, and there's so much wasted potential. Even just relying on tropes and ignoring research with the excuse of "Well, this is an alternate reality" (the Shinshu/Honganji faith they depicted is already bullshit and wrong anyway), I know they could've done better.

What little historical info (about the grandmother and Kennyo's past in the temple) they did incorporate in the route was solely from Wikipedia, which is like barely 10 paragraphs long even in Japanese back then (it's been updated since, and it's much longer now). If they really didn't bother trying to look elsewhere, that's lazy as heck, and I could say that this is further indication of lack of interest on the staff's part.

Me and a mutual recently talked about how in all these 7 years he does NOT have a single event story outside of birthdays, and this is such injustice, and like... if you're not interested in him then why did you even create him in the first place? Cybird, y'all made him and desginated him as one of the love interests. You have the responsibility to treat him fairly.

Technically yes, a fic reblog page, but now I just do everything on here because I kept forgetting to use it.

On and off, about 10 years (which is terrifying to think about).

This time 'round, I got into video games and wanted to write for them. Then I quickly left because that fandom was one of the most toxic things I've been involved in for a while now.
