a sighed left your lips as you tracked your eyes from the road to your phone. you tried to track back in your brain on how you ended up under him in the first place. but he was really sly, so you didn’t dig too deep into it. it didn’t matter. you were done dealing with him and his lies.
with toji, he just stood in his hallway, naked, looking as dumb as he ever could. he knew were y’all stood, even though y’all weren’t officially a couple. you didn’t entertain anyone else, and he didn’t entertain anyone else, supposedly. he knew you were too smart to eat up his lies, but tried to fed them to you anyways. you peeped everything, but that’s nothing he didn’t know.
now he was standing in his own house, looking a complete fool, with 4 slashed tires that he didn’t even know of yet. you stabbed 3 holes in each one before going in to confront him.
you knew that wasn’t the last time you’d have to see him. so many of your things were still at his house and same with him. you then realized you had to prepare yourself for another possibly crazy confrontation all over again, and that made you roll your eyes.

Summary : Din loves to read, but it's been a difficult life for him to keep up with his hobbies.
Pairing : Din Djarin x GN!Reader + Grogu.
Warning: T to M rating? mention of violence. Might have make up bits and pieces of lores.
I try to keep it Gender neutral as much as possible for the reader. If any of you spots a mistake , please let me know :) Not beta'ed or proof read. wrote it in a hurry during work break. oop.

This is my first ever Din/The Mandalorian fic. I'm very lucky to be surrounded by amazing writers that really pushes me to write. Thank you.
MASTERLIST
Din loves to read and listen to stories.
Din's first contact with book was growing up on Aq Vetina. His parents, although not well off, often borrow books and holopads of all sorts from the local library and read it to him before sleep.
Stories of legend, history of the planet, adventures of old. His father was the best story teller that makes the action and characters came alive when he convey the story on.
When he joined the children of the watch, his favourite time of the day was in the evening, siting around the fire and clan elders telling them stories of struggle and purge of the Mandalorian people, legends of the Darksaber, The teaching of the creed.
After becoming a full time bounty hunter, having a hobby or idea of relaxation became a luxury, a dream. Lack of space on Razor crest is also a big factor. Who uses physical books nowadays in the galaxy apart from the old documentation and backward planets? What he read the most nowadays are instruction manuals of how to fix the ship or news for any new bounties.
Along came you and the little green munchikin.
He often hear you telling stories and singing songs from your home planet, or even fabricating your own stories when you ran out of any to tell.
One day he saw you eyeing a stall in the market, stall selling second hand physical books and old looking holopads.
" Please Mando, can we buy some? I promise to use my own credit, plus it won't take up too much room on the ship. We can always trade in the old ones later to buy more..."
How can he say no to you. Nodding his head, you letting up a whoop and happily shuffle through the stall for any new stories you haven't read or heard before.
That night, Din sat down on the crate with the baby in his lap, with a story book in hand, trying to read to him.
Damn the helmet,he cursed silently . The dim light inside the ship doesn't help either with trying to read the prints, and he struggles with flipping through the pages with his thick gloves. Fragile the books are, little sharp claws of baby isn't the greatest either to help him.
" Would you two like some help??"
Din look up, you smiling down at him. Letting out a huff, he mumbles a reply to you.
" Cool, I haven't heard of this story either. Shuffle over Mando." Asking Din to make space beside him so you can sit down with both of them
He shook his head, you look at him with with perplex expression. He pick up the baby from his lap spread his leg a bit and nodding to you to sit down in between.
Your face heated up, hesitating a bit. Din nod his head again once more, encourage you.
Slowly, you move yourself to sit down in the space between his leg. He lift the baby over your head, gently place him in your lap and pull you into his chest. Lifting the book up once more, he whispers into your ear,
" Would you do the honour to do the reading and turning of pages for us, Cyare. " There's that word again, the nickname he's been calling you a lot lately. You don't know what it means ( you are pretty sure it's Mando'a ) but every time he says the word, he says it softly, lovingly.
The baby cooed and you smiled and patted his head.
" Yes Little pea....I'll read. "
After that, it became a evening ritual for the three of you before baby's bed time.

You know, I was scolling years back in my Tumblr feed and found our original conversations, and I thought "Huh. Vix and I haven't had a chat in awhile, I wonder how she and the munchikin are?" SO - that's my question to you while I answer this:
9. SWEET CAROLINE by Neil Diamond. I live near/around Boston, and this is like...the unspoken official anthem of the city thanks to it being the theme for the Boston Red Sox (Boston is absolutely brutal when it comes to sports - nobody will love their teams like we do), and it is an absolute guarantee that if anywhere in that city you hear the opening chords, the whole city will join in. It's like the Twlight Bark. We went to see Beautiful Noise, which is the soon-to-be-on-Broadway musical about Neil Diamond's life, and the entire audience drowned out the the performers both times this song came on. When it played at my sister's wedding, people who'd been sitting all afternoon not willing to dance ran to the dance floor, skidding across the floor in their nylons to sing loudly, badly, at the top of their lungs "BUM BUM BUUUUUM" and shriek "SO GOOD, SO GOOD, SO GOOD", which while the wedding was in Texas, you knew immediately who were the northen relatives because it's a very Bostonian thing to do the added in refrains. It is a road trip song, it's a "I'm feelin' good" song, it's a power anthem - I will never be sad hearing this song.

I had 2 thoughts about Tom Bombadil when we were reading about him:
One of the possible in-universe explanations for Tom Bombadil is that he is God. While this is good idea with all Tom Bombadil's singing and Illuvatar's connection with music, it is way funnier is Tom Bombadil is a different being. Like imagine creating an empty world out of The Void, and you look in and theres just Some Guy Vibing
All his nonsense singing reminds me a bit of that episode of Stellar Firma where Trexel is making up riddles but they end up steadily turing into funny little nonsense rhymes.

There's a couple of moments that we've read so far that will form interesting parallels later on (spoilers for the first time readers):
The hobbits feeling awkward carrying swords for the first time vs. when they return to Bree and Barliman is like "yeah, of course no one hassled you on the way here, you're all fully decked out in armour with swords" to which the hobbits are like "oh wow we forgot that was actually weird"
Strider and Merry meeting for the first time after Merry encountered a Black Rider vs. when Merry is one of the people Aragorn has to heal with his Kingly Healing Hands(TM)
Sam standing up to Strider when he first meets him vs. Sam's similar but even more defensive behaviour when they first speak to Faramir. I really love this one bc Sam is absolutely willing to challenge some Man who is almost twice his height and is skilled with a sword.
Also, this is less of a parallel and more of a common thread throughout the story but I love the frequency with which the hobbits have been meeting unexpected friends after leaving Bag End. There's a quote from Elrond when the fellowship is being formed about meeting "friends unlooked for" or something (I don't remember the exact phrase) and I love that this theme was set down immediately after the hobbits left

I find it very interesting that when the hobbits were like "tell us one of the Old Tales" and Aragorn chooses a comforting one in the form of the Tale of Beren and Luthien. In isolation, it's a good choice. There's hope amid hardship and people achieving impossible tasks with the power of love. It's very comforting if you're about to be attacked by evil creatures.
However, with the context of Aragorn and Arwen, you have to ask how many times has that been Aragorn's comfort to himself? How many cold nights in the wilderness has Aragorn spent imagining Beren doing the same thing? Does the successful taking of a Silmaril turn Aragorn's task of becoming King of Gondor and Arnor from "Impossible" to only "Very Difficult"? Or does it turn it into a sort of destiny that can and will be fulfilled? That he won't be stuck roaming the world alone for all his long life?
