Dear Gus & Magnus,

When Gus left the Museum of Discovery yesterday afternoon, he said he had spots on his legs. Mom and I looked at them and decided he was having some kind of reaction, but it hadn't shown up on his face and he said he felt normal, so we decided to give him some Benadryl and keep an eye on it. This morning, though, he woke me up and said he didn't feel normal. It had spread to his face and mouth, so Mom took him to the emergency department (which is apparently the new name for the emergency room). Diagnosis: Erythema multiforme, possibly caused by the strep he had a couple of weeks ago, or another virus, or the antibiotic he took for strep, or few other things, but it shouldn't cause any respiratory problems. The doctor put him on a steroid and said he could go back to camp, but he wanted to stay home with Mom. I would have too.

The whole experience reminded me of when he had a similar reaction as a baby.

Monkel and Will joined us for steaks on our porch, then the three of us went to Riverdale Theater to watch The 'Vous, a documentary about The Rendezvous in Memphis. Bryan was the film's director of photography. A solid night.

The most common triggers for EM are herpes simplex virus (HSV) infection, followed by Mycoplasma pneumoniae infection. It occurs most often in young men. A prodrome of fever, malaise, and itching or burning at the site of the eruption can occur. Early lesions are red maculopapular spots and progress to the characteristic “targetoid” lesions. Targetoid lesions have a center blister surrounded by pale edema and a ring of erythema. Target lesions are the hallmark of EM, although they may not always be present. Lesions are usually symmetric and most commonly appear in a symmetrical distribution on the extensor surfaces of the acral extremities and subsequently spread in a centripetal manner. The lesions may be asymptomatic, but they also may present with itching and burning.

Eruptions can also occur in the oral cavity and can often be associated with the vesicular lesions of HSV. EM can progress to toxic epidermal necrosis or Stevens-Johnson syndrome. If linked to an HSV infection, acyclovir can be prescribed to decrease recurrent rashes.

Because of the association between HSV and EM, all patients with EM should be closely evaluated for concomitant HSV infection and appropriate treatment.

Bottom Line: Erythema multiforme (EM) is a cutaneous skin eruption with classic targetoid and oral mucosal lesions most commonly caused by herpes simplex virus (HSV) and Mycoplasma pneumoniae. It is less commonly caused by drugs. All patients with EM should be evaluated for HSV infection.

EM major, also known as Stevens-Johnson syndrome, involves mucous membranes.

In fact, the increased sensuality remained confined to the visual realm, and it thus became the role of the modern artist to restore to painting its tactile element, to make the painting, in and of itself, a real thing of substance again. To undertake this task, modern artists have re-examined art history, not only considering the usefulness of perspective and light, but also looking to other traditions for the expression of the essential. To this end, modern artists have drawn upon 'primitive' traditions and delved into the unconscious mind to find the raw material that was perhaps over distilled in previous generations. They have turned away from the overarching rationality of the Renaissance and purposely reconnoitered the demons and chimeras which that period tried to banish. These have become sources of truth and of previously denied emotional content that it is incumbent upon the artist to express.

Rothko? What is a fucking rectangle?

Since I was born (i know too exaggerated) I've never adequately understood Rothko's art. Yall might say that it's my poor qualification and knowledge, and you might be right. I was constantly browsing his art faking my total appreciation and understanding.

However, I'm indeed attending my Masters in Art history or something similar (not going too deeply into what is my course name since it's VeRy niche and my identity might be discovered OmgOmg). too shy for that, too scared to express my ideas freely.

Anyhow, back to Rothko.

I've randomly found a book in my favourite library about Rothko art and I'm devouring each page. I feel that I NEED TO UNDERSTAND.
