Could 'happy' be the proper term for what they were? Whatever their arrangement was, it felt like more than just another job, and Benjamin wasn't merely one of her many clients. Somehow, despite being a drunk, he was different from the rest -- He was special. Important, even.

And yet Moira wasn't daft enough to believe that their dalliances were some great love story in the making. Playing house was for school girls. At the end of the day, Ben still paid her for her services.

"I didn't...It's not..." she couldn't find the words to explain herself, not with the frigid air harshly stinging her face.

"It's cold out," he sighed, sensing her discomfort, "Whatever you have to say, can we at least do it indoors by the fire?"

Moira followed him inside, the potent scent of booze saturating the air. While it wasn't unusual for Holy Ground to have all sorts of lingering odors, this house smelled like a professional brewery.

Though there were multiple places to sit, she elected to stand, her hands clasping the thin shawl that served as her coat.

"What I meant was that sometimes things don't always turn out the way we think they will," she continued, "Look, Biscuit, there ain't an easy way to say this, so I'll just say it straight. I'm pregnant."

Her legs were wobbly, but it wasn't the cold that caused them to shake.

"You're definitely the father, since I've only taken on one other client who showed up on shore leave for a time two months ago. The doc says I'm four months along, and you're the only two I've seen within that time since the chill in the air this time of year tends to make Lucy sick. It has to be yours."

A hard lump formed in Moira's throat, making it hard for her to swallow. A trait she wasn't used to, as crude as that sounded.

"I don't expect any financial compensation from you. I can do it on my own. Done it before, and I'll do it again. Just thought you should know about it."
