The song was recorded using analog gear and live instruments - A Moog Sirin was used for the bass tones, while all the glitchy and melodic "keys" are actual toy glockenspiels and tongue drums, mangled up with a modular system. The guitar is a Strat into a Vox amp through various pedals.

I post this here since the Moog forum is almost dead and can't find a solution nor help from them.

The Moog Sirin is an evolution of the Moog Minitaur, based on the legendary Taurus bass synth. It's a limited edition analog synthesizer that features the same body rumbling bass as the Minitaur, but with extended range into the upper registers, so you can play leads as well.

Minitaur Editor plugin reports that the Moog Minitaur is unavailable for MIDI Input and MIDI Output (and the Minitaur is connected and receiving MIDI from your DAW), then you may need to install the Minitaur USB Driver. Make sure your Minitaur is updated to the v2.2.0 firmware before installing the Minitaur USB Driver.

I'm having the popular issue 'Disconnected' from the VST editors for the Minitaur and Sub 37, I'm using Windows 7 x64 + Ableton Live 10.

I've installed the latest firmware 2.2.1 and USB driver 4.35.0, also tried downgrading with other versions of firmware and using the generic USB composite driver from Windows too but I still get the disconnected message. The standalone version of the editor works ok, so the issue is probably between windows and ableton 10. Was working ok in my old rig with Ableton 9.7.5. but not in this new PC and with the new Ableton Live.

I’ve been back to music these last couple of months, for the first time in a number of years. I wasn’t sure it would ever come back, this time.

One of the things that kept me away is that all the craft I’d developed was aimed at creating music in the idioms of electronic dance music, but those idioms gradually meant less and less to me; I can’t remember the last time I went to a dance party or a club. Now I’m trying to understand what it feels like to create music without the structure of those idioms. I don’t think I’ve quite found an architecture in the absence of that structure, but I’m exploring. This is the first thing that’s felt potentially like a finished piece (although it’s not anything like a final mix at this point, much less a mastered one). This one’s cheating, in a way, because it still uses what feels like an arpeggiated melody (although it’s not using an arpeggiator), and so the rhythms are there even if the drums aren’t. That’s especially true because the melodic sound is built on a sine wave, and you can hear the click as the waveform snaps to or away from zero, even though all envelopes have attack and release ramps (it’s the amp envelope restarting, I think? That’s what research suggests).

In terms of tools, I’ve gone back to Ableton Live, which I just genuinely like (although it remains to be seen whether its affordances are making it harder for me to escape dance music idioms), and I’ve been exploring newer soft synths, in particular wavetable synths Pigments (Arturia) and Massive X (Native Instruments). I’ve also been playing with a friend’s Moog Sirin, my first time doing much with a hardware synth, and have spent some time with open source virtual modular tool VCV Rack.

Addendum -- I just realized that I touched on similar themes of dance music and structure in my last post, which was in 2014. This has been on my mind for some time now...
