One Dress a Day Challenge
Monochrome July
Sabrina / Audrey Hepburn as Sabrina Fairchild
This dress was a sensation when the movie came out, and it became known simply as "the Sabrina dress." There's some dispute as to whether it was designed by Edith Head (who was credited with the design for the film) or Hubert de Givenchy (who definitely contributed some of the dresses). Either way, it's really beautiful in its simplicity. I adore the deep V in the back with the row of white buttons.
But I have to confess it's the hat that really fascinates me. It somehow manages to be beautiful and sophisticated enough to overcome the simultaneous "evil queen" and "ashtray" vibes that it always gives me. That's quite an achievement!

Monochrome July
Follow the Fleet - Sherry Martin (Ginger Rogers)
I had to have Ginger to start off Monochrome July! This gorgeous beaded gown with its bell sleeves might be my favourite of her dresses. It hangs beautifully, and I like the fur collar. Apparently Fred was not a huge fan of this dress, as the sleeves kept hitting him in the face during the routine! (To be honest, I wouldn’t enjoy being hit in the face with beaded fabric either!) But it looks beautiful, and it’s super glamorous, as Ginger pretty much always is.

One Dress a Day Challenge
Monochrome July
Vivacious Lady / Ginger Rogers as Francey Morgan
This is one of my favorite Ginger dresses. It's either by Bernard Newman, who also designed the costumes for many of her 1930s movies with Fred Astaire, or by Irene, who also designed the costumes for The Barkleys of Broadway. Both are credited on the movie, but I tend to suspect Newman for this particular gown.
Anyway, I love the layered effect, the lavish use of sequins, and the sheer wrap/cape with the bow-shaped brooch(?) at the shoulder. It definitely fits the glamorous nightclub singer she is playing in the film. Later, to go out, she puts on a cute jacket with shouldamapads and ribbon ties in the front over the gown.

Shall We Dance - Linda Keene (Ginger Rogers)
Yes, it’s Ginger again. I adore her! This is one of her simpler outfits, but it’s so smart. It seems to be a black dress or blouse and skirt with a blazer over the top. I really like the simple stripe detail on the skirt, and the jacket is really nicely tailored.
And can we just point out that in this routine, she’s doing it in heels AND roller skates?!
