chocolate! for cute dragons!
Part four of the One Word Prompts . The collection of conversations from a cozy evening in chronological order.
Part 4 ( 09 - chocolate )
----
"Who chose this wine for dessert? Whoever it was should no longer work for us." Daeran turned the bottle in his hands in disbelief.
Midnight smirked. "I could call you any name right now and you would have no idea which of the servants it was."
"This clearly shows that we should take Tisha's idea and just number them all. That would make things a lot easier. Anyway, I'll get another bottle." With these words he went straight back to the house.
The three others continued their conversation until Tishlia began to feel uneasy at the amount of time Daeran was taking to choose the wine. For another moment, the last sip of her glass distracted her, until his absence gave her no peace and she followed him into the vault.
The couple left behind remained snuggled on the cozy bench, waiting for dessert and wine. The kitchen staff was quicker and Jax and Midnight found themselves alone in front of the sweet temptation.
As Jax closely examined what was on the table, Milvirvilan gave him a threatening stare. "Don't do it Jax."
"It's edible, isn't it?" replied Jax, gazing longingly at the artfully crafted roses of bitter chocolate in a bowl of cloud-like, fluffy wine cream.
"It is, but it's the decoration and you'll be able to control yourself until the two return."
"Lia followed him to the wine vault, I'm sure that will take more than a few minutes. Come on, it's cruel to put this in front of me and not let me eat a little."
Midnight crossed his arms and rolled his eyes. "Your obsession with chocolate is unbelievable, and your self-discipline is a disaster, sweetheart."
Jax countered with a defiant grin, "You have to make the most of every moment, and if you desire something, you should make sure you get it.
"I think you've spent too much time with Dae already."
Slowly, Jax moved closer to his partner, approached his lips and whispered. "You could help me resist my addiction and distract me with something sweeter."
Smiling, Midnight complied, and bridged the short distance to kiss him. He opened his arms and placed his hands on Jax's hips, ready to close the last gap between them. To take his lover fully into his arms, Jax lifted one arm over the table and wrapped it around Midnight's shoulder.
The sound of small objects falling made Midnight flinch and he looked across the table. Jax followed his gaze to the chocolate roses lying broken in several pieces next to the bowl.
"Oh, too bad, I must have accidentally grazed the bowl," Jax said, grinning mischievously as he placed the first piece of chocolate rose in his mouth.

For the one-word writing prompts: 31.Ā ā€” lies. šŸ‘€
Part three of the One Word Prompts . The collection of conversations from a cozy evening in chronological order.
Part 3 (31. - lies)
Lying comfortably in Jax's arms, Midnight tried to summarize the events that had happened at Heaven's Edge over the past few weeks. "Aside from the escaped flock, not much has really happened around here in the last three weeks. I guess that's why it seems like you've been gone for an endless amount of time."
"You forgot to mention that we need new gardeners, Darling. After all, this drama has kept us a little busy."
"That's right, we don't have a gardener anymore," Milvirvilan chuckled.
Incredulous, Daeran objected, "We had three. How did you manage to lose three gardeners in three weeks?"
"They almost did it themselves," Jax began to report. "Did you know Jennis had a fling with the other two gardeners? They didn't know about it, but it came to light and it totally escalated. Bronnar quit right away and left. Jennis and Melrun tried to ignore the tension, but they got into such a fight at work that they destroyed the variegated roses and threw them at each other. That's when I fired them both."
"Who's Jennis?" asked Daeran, obviously confused, which made Tishlia laugh.
"That's the person you've been paying to take care of our garden for the past three years, and who you always call 'the gardener.' Sometimes it might be useful to ask people their names."
"Nonsense, if you start asking for the names of your servants, they'll soon tell you about their personal problems, and you'll get involved in things you don't want to know. You can see how many people are stuck with us just because we learned their names during the crusade. You never manage to ignore any of them when they ask for help or advice."
"These people are called friends, my love. When they ask for help or advice, you should be there for them."
"Friends are a few people, not a whole city of them. We waste way too much time with people we barely know. At the end of the day, it is my time with you that is at stake. If we worry about the servants now, there will be no end to it. I'm happy about everything you don't know." He had talked himself into such a rage that he almost bit his tongue to stop himself from saying his last sentence. It was too late, Tishlia had long since slipped out of his arm and onto the other side of the bench, glaring at him suspiciously.
"What don't I know, Dae?"
"It's called digging your own grave, isn't it?" Jax quipped before Midnight silenced him with a sharp look.
There was a brief silence, broken only by the incessant chirping of crickets. Tishlia said nothing, waiting patiently for her husband's response with an iron gaze. He squirmed, tried to avoid her gaze, took a sip of wine, but no one did him the favor of breaking the silence and bringing up a new topic. Finally, he sighed and relented. He feared that exposing his little white lies would lead to their first real argument.
"It was always trivial, nothing really important. Sometimes just rumors, or trivial problems of unimportant people who think their hero of the Fifth Crusade will solve everything for them. Like the situation with the gardeners. Iā€¦ simply tried to prevent more and more being placed on your shoulders." He spoke very softly and seemed a little contrite, but not really remorseful.
"For my sake or out of concern that you might be neglected?"
"Both, probably."
"I still decide for myself what I put on my shoulders, Count Arendae." The salutation hit him like a whiplash; she had never called him that in a serious tone before. He nodded, but remained silent, waiting for her to continue. An apology would be pointless, she knew exactly that he didn't really regret keeping the informations from her. Instead of the next blow he expected, Tishlia said nothing. Instead, she climbed onto his lap, pressing his shoulders against the backrest and keeping her gaze fixed on him. "You're probably right. But don't do this to me, Dae. You should help me say no more often. And hell, tell me if you think we're not spending enough time together."
"That's easy, if you're by my side for less than 24 hours, I feel neglected." Smiling gently, he stroked her cheek, "I'll try to do better, I promise. But I'm not going to start remembering the names of the gardeners."
With a smile on her face, she leaned her head closer to his hand, never really able to be angry with him. "We'll just give the next ones numbers." To relieve any remaining tension, she kissed him tenderly before they moved on to the next course of the enjoyable dinner.

How about 35. unforeseen for Tishlia? šŸ’•
Part two of the One Word Prompts . The collection of conversations from a cozy evening in chronological order.
Part 2 (35. - unforseen)
--
Accompanied by a concert of chirping crickets, the warm evening progressed with many stories to tell. Satisfied with the excellent meal and happy to be back at home, Tishlia leaned back against her husband and took a sip from of her wine. "There's one more thing from Drezen. Yesterday, when we went to check on the preparations for the festival, we had a surprising encounter. Sosiel is indeed there. He came especially for the annual celebration. I was quite taken aback, I had not expected him to show up at all anymore".
Attentively, Midnight turned directly to Tishlia, curious for more information. "You didn't think of that before? I didn't expect that anymore. So he got our invitation after all. What did he say?"
"He was happy to see us, we had dinner together. He told us what he did last year. It was a nice evening, but not very informative. Dae didn't give me much of a chance to guide the conversation. He was too busy teasing Sosiel with every second sentence for still taking care of his brother like a "mother hen".
"The crusade is three years over, you'd think Trevor would have learned to manage life on his own by now. But worse than Sosiel's obsessive willingness to help are your constant attempts to set them up. You already broke their hearts twice. Do you really want to be responsible for a thrid time? Maybe they're just not interested in being happy," Daeran interjected.
As if from the same mouth, Tishlia and Midnight replied. "Stay out of it." Daeran rolled his eyes and Jax laughed uproariously.
"Not everyone can hold on to their love as tightly as you, Dae. These two just need a push that separates them a tiny bit from their sense of duty."
"Midnight is right, they are far too happy together and neither of them even begins to look for happiness elsewhere. They bury themselves in their duties and suffer because they are convinced that they can't be together. Luca is coming the day after tomorrow, we must manage not to let him come to Drezen too early. It's better if they meet 'by chance' at the festival."
Amused, Daeran listened to his wife's plans. "Let me guess, my manipulative beauty, when it comes to keeping him busy, you want my help?"
Carefully turning around, Tishlia slid her hands down Daeran's back, nuzzling her chest close to his and giving him an affectionate smile that punctuated the excited sparkle of her bright eyes. Returning the smile, Daeran kissed his wife briefly and sighed defeatedly. "Sometimes I wonder if I ever make my own decisions, or if I am always the victim of your pretty smile."
"Are you sure you want to know the answer?" Tishlia chuckled.

For the one word prompt--heartache!!
My One Word Prompts are a collection of conversations from a cozy evening in chronological order. I don't know if this is a good idea, but when I started to write it, I thought it would be a good idea.šŸ˜…
Here we go with Part 1 (39. ā€” heartache)
--
The four friends strolled to the Rosepavilion, where odeuvre and aperitifs awaited them to celebrate the return of Tishlia and Daeran. Two comfortable, softly upholstered benches provided enough room for each couple to sit down.
Jax sat down first so that Midnight could lean right back into his arms. "You were gone too long this time. My poor midnightdragon had real heartache without his counterpart."
Midnight gave him a gentle nudge in the ribs. "You're one to talk, as if you missed them less."
Tishlia walked over to him and knelt down on the small empty space next to him, searching for the lips from which she had once received the first kiss of her life. She kissed him tenderly. She moved closer and closer until Midnight was lying in Jax's lap and she was on top of him. Their dark blue eyes sparkled with excitement, they were glad to have each other and the joy of their reunion gathered in that moment. Again Tishlia pushed him into a kiss, this time more impetuous and demanding. She wanted everything from him that she had been denied for so long. His hands easily found their way under her silken blouse, caressing her ribs and closing around her waist. Jax watched what was happening on his lap with an amused smile. He gently brushed Tishlia's hair back and then continued to run his hand down her back. "I think they really missed each other."
From the other side of the table, Daeran watched the little spectacle quite enraptured as well. "I don't blame them. I really missed that sight. Do you really want us to eat a long meal first?"
"We'll ask them when they're out of breath, I'm curious to see how long they have," Jax replied amusedly, watching closely not wanting to miss the moment.
When it was time to catch their breath, the two playful friends laughed and Tishlia dropped her head to Midnight's chest. Midnight continued to stroke her back when he saw Jax's still grinning face. "We've been planning this evening for days, darling. We'll eat first."
Slowly, Tishlia sat up, quickly straightened her clothes, and returned to her husband's side. Daeran's arm welcomed her, pulling her close to his body, which could not hide the excitement. "You know it's all your fault that Jax and I aren't thinking about food right now, right?"
With a mischievous smile, Tishlia looked into his eyes. "I'm sure you'll be pleased to know that our friends have planned five courses, so you'll have plenty of time to look forward to the dessert."

Happy Valentines day to all of you ā¤ļø
I'm a little obsessed with these two right now. So it's time for some dragon fluff. šŸ‰šŸ‰šŸ’•
------------
"Why do you stay here with me?"
"Because in a weird way, I guess we are like family. Besides, they'd kill me if I let you out of my sight."
"I could tell them it was too dangerous to stay here and I sent you away, then you could just leave. You should go."
"You're an idiot, Jax." Midnight got up, stretched, and walked slowly through the dark cave in front of which Jax lay in the sun. Only the sparkling silver tips of his scales showed where he was going, like flowing starlight.
Jax didn't want him there, but he didn't want to let him go either. Why did it hurt so much to think that Midnight stayed with him only out of duty? They were never really good friends, too different in all their views. Why did it matter to him now what motives he had for his decision, why did it become important that he stayed of his own free will? He could have just been happy not to be alone, it was nice to have someone to talk to in the last weeks, why couldn't that have been enough?
"Maybe you're right." The metallic dragon said more to himself than to his unwilling guardian.
"Oh, a spark of self-knowledge. Perhaps there is hope for you after all. What do you want me to say, Jax? I've been here for weeks and now it matters why? If you want me to leave, just tell me, I won't torture you with my presence if you don't want it. This isn't exactly a place I like to be."
"I don't know." He spoke very quietly and turned his head towards the sun, no longer able to look at him. Even as irritated as he was right now, Midnight's voice retained the soft tone he had grown so attached to. Every time they spoke, it was as if that voice was touching his soul. Warm. Familiar. "I'm sorry."
Jax feels Midnight's dark blue eyes staring at him from the darkness of the cave. Not saying anything. Tense. Anxious.
"I know you're not comfortable here. I'm sorry you have to endure all this. I don't want you to leave, I just don't want to torture you anymore."
"You want me to stay?" Midnight stepped back to the edge of the cave, just barely in the dark shade that hid him from the high sun. The anger was completely gone from his voice, leaving only the gentle warmth with which his every word caressed Jax. Jax turned and looked into the eyes that sparkled like dark jewels out of the darkness. He couldn't let him go. Not now. Never.
"I want you to never leave my side again."
Silently, the dark blue dragon approached, snuggled his long, elegant body close to Jax's warm scales, and lay against his side. Close enough that Jax could feel every breath, close enough that their scales tangled slightly, closer than ever. Jax gently laid his large, sun-warmed wing over him and tenderly touched his cheek with the side of his head. They breathed in silence until a thought, as tender as a warm breeze, found its way into Jax's mind. 'I never intended to leave your side ever again.'
