Dear Gus & Magnus,
Mom worked today. We went to Nene's for most of the day, helping her make sugar cookies, etc., then we went out to Monkel's for the annual Christmas tree hunt. It's the first time I've seen Monkel in months, and Aunt Donna in years, maybe? It was good to get together and you two had fun.
Monkel is still recovering from heart surgery, so we skipped the hayride portion of the hunt this year. Also, John and Tess announced that they are having a third child, due in August.
Dad.

Morphew
DENVER (KDVR) — An attorney for the Federal Bureau of Investigation has issued a motion to dismiss a case against two agents filed by Barry Morphew in 2023. Morphew filed a complaint against the district attorney and several other prosecutors in 2023, after claiming allegations of misconduct that led to his arrest in the case of his missing wife, Suzanne Morphew. According to a motion of dismissal document obtained by FOX31, Morphew sued FBI Special Agents Jonathan Grusing and Kenneth Harris. Morphew is seeking damages from the agents’ personal assets through the U.S. Supreme Court case Bivens v. Six Unknown Named Agents. In that case, the Supreme Court ruled that federal courts could award financial damages in cases where a person’s constitutional rights were violated by the FBI.*** Morphew files lawsuit against FBI agents According to the dismissal document, Morphew filed a lawsuit and asserted the following claims against Grusing and Harris: Count 1: Malicious prosecution and unlawful detention Count 2: Fabrication of evidence Count 3: Franks claim Count 4: Conspiracy Count 6: Failure to intervene Count 7: Reckless investigation Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney Brian M. Boynton filed the motion to dismiss on Jan. 16 https://kdvr.com/news/local/attorney-wants-barry-morphews-case-against-fbi-agents-dismissed/

Seymour went to the wrong house
A 19-year-old man pleaded guilty Friday to second-degree murder for starting a house fire that killed five people in Denver’s Green Valley Ranch neighborhood more than three years ago. Gavin Seymour pleaded guilty in the Aug. 5, 2020, fire that killed five Senegalese family members in a home on Truckee Street. He faces between 16 and 40 years in prison on the single count of second-degree murder. Dozens of other charges against him will be dismissed as part of the plea agreement. Seymour and two other teenagers — Kevin Bui and Dillon Siebert — were accused of intentionally setting the house fire in the middle of the night. Djibril Diol, 29; Adja Diol, 23; Khadija Diol, 2; Hassan Diol, 25; and 6-month-old Hawa Baye were killed in the blaze, Shelly Bradbury reports. https://www.denverpost.com/2024/01/19/gavin-seymour-guilty-green-valley-ranch-arson/

Ouray Plaindealer newspapers stolen on day it publishes story with allegations of rape at police chief’s house
Hours after the Ouray County Plaindealer published a story detailing the alleged violent sexual assault of a teenage girl at the Ouray police chief’s house, someone stole hundreds of copies out of nearly every newspaper rack across the county, publishers say. The front-page story, written by co-publisher Erin McIntyre, broke the news that three men were arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl multiple times during a late-night party at the home of Ouray Police Chief Jeff Wood in May. “Someone didn’t like this edition of the (Plaindealer,)” co-publisher Mike Wiggins wrote on X Thursday. “Guess which article. So they stole nearly every newspaper out of our racks in Ouray County. If you hoped to silence or intimidate us, you failed miserably. We’ll find out who did this. And another press run is imminent.” https://www.denverpost.com/2024/01/18/ouray-plaindealer-stolen-newspapers-rape-allegations-police-chief-house/

Jan. 21 (UPI) -- A Colorado man has been hit with a summons to appear in court after he admitted to stealing copies of a local newspaper. Paul Choate, 41, has received a citation for petty theft for stealing more than 200 printed copies of the Ouray County Plaindealer from a dozen racks in the area, the newspaper said in an online article Saturday. "Someone didn't like this edition of the Ouray County Plaindealer," co-publisher Mike Wiggins said on social media on Thursday, the day the thefts occurred. "Guess which article." The newspaper had reported the account of a 17-year-old girl in the town of Ouray who said she was raped more than once at the home of the town's chief of police, Jeff Wood. Three suspects were arrested for her alleged rape, including the chief's stepson Nate Dieffenderffer.*** Choate reportedly admitted he took the newspapers because of the front-page story. The newspaper reported that it was not disclosing Choate's relationship to the sexual assault case and that the theft was not tied to the defendants in that case, their families or the local police department. https://www.upi.com/Top_News/US/2024/01/21/colorado-man-steals-hundreds-copies-local-newspaper/4391705861238/

It's almost like they think you shouldn't point a lethal weapon at people....
A grand jury has indicted Alec Baldwin on an involuntary manslaughter charge in the deadly shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the New Mexico set of "Rust," months after prosecutors dropped their case against the actor over her death. The indictment charges Baldwin, 65, with involuntary manslaughter (negligent use of a firearm) or, in the alternative, involuntary manslaughter (without due caution or circumspection), both fourth-degree felonies.*** David Halls, the first assistant director for the film, was sentenced in March 2023 to six months unsupervised probation as part of a plea deal. Halls, who handed the Colt .45 revolver to Baldwin prior to the shooting, was charged with negligent use of a deadly weapon. https://abcnews.go.com/US/alec-baldwin-indicted-grand-jury-involuntary-manslaughter/story?id=104954728
Do we really want to live in a country where they punish you for pointing a loaded weapon at an innocent woman, squeezing the trigger, and shooting her to death?

NYC directs you to sit there like a good victim
The case of a Marine veteran from West Islip charged in the chokehold death of a New York City homeless man will go to trial. A New York judge denied Daniel Penny’s motion to dismiss his involuntary manslaughter case. Penny is accused of choking Jordan Neely to death last May. Witnesses say Neely shouted at and begged passengers for money in a New York City subway car. Penny already pleaded not guilty to manslaughter and negligent homicide charges. Penny is due back in court in March.  https://bronx.news12.com/judge-denies-motion-to-dismiss-marine-veteran-daniel-pennys-nyc-manslaughter-case
Now, generally speaking, insufficient evidence is not a proper basis to dismiss before trial.

You asked for nitrogen bro
MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- An attorney for an Alabama inmate set to be the nation's first person ever put to death by nitrogen gas asked a federal appeals court Friday to block the upcoming execution using the “untested methods.” Kenneth Smith, 58, is scheduled to be executed Thursday, when a respirator-type mask will be put on his face to replace his breathing air with pure nitrogen — depriving him of the oxygen needed to stay alive. Three states — Alabama, Oklahoma and Mississippi — have authorized nitrogen hypoxia as an execution method, but no state has previously attempted to use it.*** During arguments Friday, Circuit Judge Charles Wilson noted that Smith, when fighting past attempts to execute him by lethal injection, had previously suggested nitrogen as an alternative method. At the time the state had not developed a protocol for nitrogen executions and it was unclear when the state would do so.*** Smith was one of two men convicted of the 1988 murder-for-hire of a preacher’s wife. Prosecutors said Smith and the other man were each paid $1,000 to kill Elizabeth Sennett on behalf of her husband, who was deeply in debt and wanted to collect insurance. John Forrest Parker, the other man convicted in the case, was executed by lethal injection in 2010. Sennett's husband killed himself when the murder investigation focused on him as a suspect, according to court documents.*** https://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory/alabama-inmate-federal-appeals-court-block-execution-nitrogen-106519070

No, the elites have too much money, not enough Murica
The nation’s ruling class holds deeply authoritarian opinions widely divorced from the rest of the American electorate, finds a survey out this week. It found nearly 60 percent of American “elites” think there is too much individual freedom in America. Meanwhile, nearly 60 percent of registered voters have the exact opposite opinion, reporting the United States has too much top-down control, limiting liberty.  The study, titled “Them Vs. U.S,” defined the American “elite” as “having a postgraduate degree, a household income of more than $150,000 annually, and living in a zip code with more than 10,000 people per square mile.” Such people account for about 1 percent of Americans. The study also examined a sub-sample of the 1 percent who graduated from Ivy League schools or other name-brand institutions such as Northwestern, Duke, Stanford, and the University of Chicago. The study from the Committee to Unleash Prosperity found ruling class opinions on climate policies were particularly harsh and despotic. More than two-thirds of the 1 percent support rationing vital energy and food sources in an attempt to control the globe’s weather. That number jumped to nearly 90 percent among the Ivy Leaguers. Around two-thirds of normal registered voters, however, oppose rationing vital resources.*** https://thefederalist.com/2024/01/19/survey-two-thirds-of-elites-say-theres-too-much-freedom-in-america/

You'll be shocked to learn he has a record....
A suspected gunman being hunted by police in Illinois is believed to have fatally shot himself during a stand-off with cops at a gas station in Texas, authorities said. An existing manhunt for Romeo Nance, 23, was ramped-up after the discovery of bodies at two houses—believed to be family members who were known to Nance—on Monday. At that time, he was the prime suspect after a body was discovered at a home in the Chicago suburb of Will County on Sunday. He was also suspected of being involved in a separate non-fatal shooting that same day. Police began watching an address on West Acres Road in Joliet, Illinois, on Monday during what was supposed to be a surveillance stakeout for Nance at his last known address. They were also aware of a link between that home and another on the same block. But when Nance failed to show up, officers entered both homes to find five bodies in one and two bodies in the other. All of the victims had been shot.*** Local news channel ABC 7 reported that Nance had a lengthy criminal record and had been arrested a year ago for a string of felony gun charges. It was unclear if he was currently out on bond for those charges, according to the report.***

Didn't think anyone would notice $6.3M?
A federal jury convicted a Michigan businessman [22jan24] of aggravated identity theft for placing the name and address of another man with the same name in legal documents to avoid a settlement payment of more than $6 million. According to documents and evidence presented at trial, Hassan Kamal Fayad, of Dearborn, operated three medical practices and a transportation business. To fund business operations, Fayad sold outstanding medical and transportation invoices to a Texas-based investment firm. After Fayad failed to make appropriate payments to the Texas firm pursuant to their contracts, the Texas firm sued him in civil court for damages. Throughout the civil proceedings, Fayad caused the name and address of another Michigan resident who shared Fayad’s first and last name, but lived at a different address, to be placed on multiple legal documents, including on a settlement document which obligated Fayad to pay the Texas firm more than $6.3 million. Fayad’s use of the other Michigan resident’s name and address caused the garnishment of all funds from the other Michigan resident’s bank account.*** https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/michigan-medical-provider-convicted-aggravated-identity-theft

The fast food burger chain In-N-Out is a California staple, but its only Oakland location announced Sunday it would have to shutter amid rampant crime.   The Oakport Street location, which is highly profitable, will close its doors on March 24, according to an announcement made by the company CEO. "We have made the decision to close our In-N-Out Burger location in Oakland, California, due to ongoing issues with crime," Denny Warnick, the chief operating officer at In-N-Out, said in a statement. "Despite taking repeated steps to create safer conditions, our Customers and Associates are regularly victimized by car break-ins, property damage, theft, and armed robberies.***  "Additionally, this location remains a busy and profitable one for the company, but our top priority must be the safety and well-being of our Customers and Associates – we can’t ask them to visit or work in an unsafe environment." This is also the first time In-N-Out has ever had to close a location. "There have been several In-N-Out Burger locations which have required relocation throughout our 75 years, however, our Oakland store will be the first location we have closed," Warnick told FOX Business. Three Kansas City Chiefs fans were found frozen to death in the backyard of their friend’s home, where they had gathered to watch a game — but the homeowner is insisting he had “no knowledge” that their bodies had possibly been there for two days. The bodies of David Harrington, 37, Ricky Johnson, 38, and Clayton McGeeney, 36, were found on the evening of Jan. 9 after the fiancée of one of the men requested a welfare check, Kansas City police told Fox Digital. One man’s body was found on the back porch of the NW 83rd Terrace home, while the other two were discovered in the backyard. But Jordan Willis, the man who was renting the home, had “no knowledge” that his friends were freezing to death on his property after they had watched Kansas City take on the LA Chargers in the last game of NFL regular season play on Jan. 7, police said. “First and foremost, this case is 100% NOT being investigated as a homicide,” Kansas City police Capt. Jake Becchina said.*** https://nypost.com/2024/01/22/news/3-kansas-city-chiefs-fans-found-frozen-outside-home-of-friend-who-had-no-knowledge-of-deaths-lawyer/

If we can't execute him.....
An Alabama man was sentenced yesterday to life in prison for his involvement with a website dedicated to the advertisement and distribution of images and videos depicting child sexual abuse. According to court documents, William Michael Spearman, 58, of Madison, was the lead administrator of the website, which had been operating for many years. The website included a section devoted to the sexual abuse of infants and toddlers, a section devoted to images and videos depicting children being subjected to pain and torture, and a section devoted to avoiding detection by law enforcement, among others. As the lead administrator, Spearman managed numerous other “staff” members, directed them on how to help run the site, recommended other users for promotion, kept records of child sexual abuse material advertised and distributed over the site, presided over staff meetings, praised and scolded users, and counseled users and other managers about the functions and expectations of the website. Spearman also advertised and distributed over the website images and videos depicting the sexual abuse of children.*** https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/man-sentenced-life-prison-running-child-sexual-abuse-material-website

The good new is she'll serve one hour for every time she stabbed him
A woman who stabbed a man more than 100 times before she turned the knife on herself during what was described as a “marijuana-induced psychotic state” will not serve any prison time, a judge ruled Tuesday. Bryn Spejcher, a Thousand Oaks resident, has been ordered to serve 100 hours of community service and two years of probation for the deadly stabbing of Chad O’Melia. Spejcher, during a state of psychosis triggered by marijuana, stabbed O’Melia more than 100 times on May 27, 2018, after they smoked the drug together.*** Because Spejcher was under psychosis at the time of the stabbing, she was charged with involuntary manslaughter instead of murder. The victim’s family said they are disheartened at the judge’s decision to not give the defendant any prison time. “This guy just gave everyone in the county a license to kill people after they smoke marijuana,” said Sean O’Melia, the victim’s father. https://www.nbclosangeles.com/news/local/woman-who-stabbed-man-more-than-100-times-will-avoid-prison-judge-rules/3321399/
California is fantastically stupid. If you smoke weed, it's voluntary intoxication. It doesn't extenuate or mitigate a crime, it aggravates the crime.
If you're high, and you recklessly drive your car into a school bus killing the kids, that might be involuntary manslaughter.
Speicher is no different than the drunk who stabs someone to death and is guilty of murder.

Sextortion: A Growing Threat Targeting Minors
Offenders deceive and manipulate victims to create sexually explicit material for extortion purposes BALTIMORE, MD—FBI Baltimore wants to warn parents, educators, caregivers, and children about the dangers of online activity that may lead to the solicitation and enticement of a minor to engage in sexual acts.  *** Victims are typically males between the ages of 14 to 17, but any child can become a victim. For financially motivated sextortion, offenders are usually located outside the United States and primarily in West African countries such as Nigeria and Ivory Coast or Southeast Asian countries such as the Philippines.  These crimes can lead victims to self-harm and have led to suicide. From October 2021 to March 2023, the FBI and Homeland Security Investigations received over 13,000 reports of online financial sextortion of minors. The sextortion involved at least 12,600 victims—primarily boys—and led to at least 20 suicides.   In the six-month period from October 2022 to March 2023, the FBI observed at least a 20% increase in reporting of financially motivated sextortion incidents involving minor victims compared to the same time period the previous year. *** https://www.fbi.gov/contact-us/field-offices/baltimore/news/sextortion-a-growing-threat-targeting-minors

Copies of Colorado Newspaper Vanish: Was It to Cover Up 'Underage Party,' Rape At Police Chief's Home?
Tumblr media
A newspaper in a small Colorado town sought to publish a story that would have cast the local police chief in a bad light. However, most of the town’s residents did not get to see the story on the day it was published--due to the actions of an unknown thief who tried to steal every copy of the issue around the town so people would not see the story.
In this curious tale, it appears that someone did not want problematic information about the chief to be made public. Unfortunately for them, it’s going to happen anyway. The incident occurred on Friday.
Nearly all the copies of a small-town Colorado newspaper were stolen from newspaper racks on the same day the Ouray County Plaindealer published a story about charges being filed over rapes alleged to have occurred at an underage drinking party at the police chief’s house while the chief was asleep, the owner and publisher said Friday. Mike Wiggins vowed to get to the bottom of it, posting Thursday on X, formerly Twitter: “If you hoped to silence or intimidate us, you failed miserably. We’ll find out who did this. And another press run is imminent.” The newspaper posted the story on social media and removed its website paywall so people could read about the felony sexual assault charges filed against three men, including a relative of the police chief, for actions that allegedly occurred at a May 2023 party in Ouray where drugs and alcohol were used, according to court records. The suspects were ages 17, 18 and 19 at the time, and the person who reported the rapes was 17, records said. By Thursday evening, someone had returned a garbage bag full of newspapers to the Plaindealer, and supporters had donated about $2,000 to the paper, something Wiggins called “extremely heartening and humbling.”
The newspaper, which was founded in 1877, put up a story about the alleged rape on its website. The report notes that the teenage victim told the authorities that “she went in and out of consciousness and was raped at least three times in a bedroom and bathroom by two different people.”
Three suspects have been arrested in the case – Police Chief Jeff Wood’s stepson, Nate Dieffenderffer, Gabriel Trujillo and Ashton Whittington. At the time of the alleged incident, Trujillo was 19, Whittington had just turned 18 and they were celebrating his birthday, and Dieffenderffer was turning 18 in a matter of days. The Plaindealer has decided to name Dieffenderffer because of the severity of the allegations, though he technically was a juvenile on May 14, 2023, the date of the suspected incident.
On Saturday, the newspaper reported that a man “was cited this morning on suspicion of petty theft in connection with the theft of more than 200 printed copies of this week’s Ouray County Plaindealer.”
Paul Choate confessed to pilfering the papers early Thursday morning. He returned them later with an apology. This case is not quite as egregious as what happened to the Marion County Register in Kansas, but it goes to show how important local journalistic outlets are, especially when it comes to exposing local corruption.
Investigators were able to use video surveillance and several leads to conduct the investigation. The evidence showed Choate took the newspapers early Thursday morning after the new edition had been distributed to vending racks. Choate, who owns Kate’s Place restaurant in Ridgway, admitted he took the newspapers because of the front page story. The Plaindealer reprinted 250 copies of this week’s edition before Choate returned the stolen copies.
Choate’s efforts will ultimately be in vain as the story is still up online--and the outlet will be publishing the issue again.

Regulatory uncertainty creates rash of ‘novel’ lawsuits: Legal experts
Regulatory uncertainty surrounding crypto has created a “fertile environment” for crypto-related litigation and enforcement to grow, according to lawyers from Choate Hall & Stewart LLP. In an analysis piece published on Law360 on June 28, lawyers from Choate Hall & Stewart LLP, including Mike Gass, Diana Lloyd and Alex Bevans, noted increasing evidence that “novel applications of existing laws”…

2020: Joe Biden/Kamala Harris vs Donald Trump/Mike Pence
The same candidates tend to show up year after year. Not just President running for re-election, but Vice Presidents running for the top slot themselves, incumbents or candidates, successful or not; Richard Nixon (1952, 1956, 1960, 1968), Hubert Humphrey (1964, 1968), Walter Mondale (1976, 1980), Bob Dole (1976, 1996), Al Gore (1992, 1996, 2000)
I would expect John Edwards (D-2004) to try and make a comeback, though he was only a one term senator from North Carolina, so that’s looking increasingly unlikely. The state swung for Obama in 2008, but hasn’t voted blue since (except for governor, but he has no power because the Republicans control the state legislature)
Paul Ryan (R-2012) will be back for sure; he retired from the House in part over of disagreements with Trump, but one doesn’t just give up being Speaker and slink away into obscurity (just look at Newt Gingrich, he refuses to shut up or die), so I think Ryan is just biding his time and hoping the whole Trump thing blows over in the next decade. If the party shifts away from Trump, he might offer himself as a slightly more moderate (“moderate*”) alternative.
Or maybe Sarah Palin (R-2008) will try and reclaim the presidency for herself; she’s a hardcore right wing nutjob, she was a Bush supporter AND a Trump supporter, and she’s still relatively young, so I could see her stepping back into the spotlight to try and “being the country back” to the traditionalism of the early 2000s. Nostalgia is cyclical, so I figure around 2028 or 2032 people will start looking back fondly on the Clinton and Bush years (Clinton more so than Bush, what with 9/11 and the wars and such)
Tim Kaine isn’t even one of the famous senators; there are some senators that everybody knows, even if they’re not from your state, like Chuck Schumer, Joe Manchin, Lindsey Graham, Bitch McConnell, big names with big reputations. Tim Kaine is a nobody, just a bland and inoffensive white dude Clinton picked to be as uncontroversial as possible (she couldn’t pick a woman or a black person because then the ticket would have been “too diverse”). He’s not the future of the Democratic party, but I could see him trying to become part of the Senate leadership. Maybe the whip (vice leader), I don’t think he has what it takes to be leader outright.
I don’t think Mitt Romney (R-2012) will run for president again; that ship has sailed. Moderate Republicans are critically endangered, extinct in the wild, with single specimens in captivity (in Vermont, Massachusetts, and Maryland). After back-to-back losses in 2008 and 2012, I don’t think Republicans will run a moderate candidate ever again. Romney could maybe just maybe become the whip if he so desired, he’s a big enough name with support enough to become their presidential nominee, though he’ll never be the leader; McConnell was their golden goose, he gave hem exactly what they wanted and changed the game to give them an advantage even in minority. They will only ever elect hardliners like him from now on. Romney is too soft; he cares too much about the other side (he’s not liberal by any stretch of the imagination, he’s a Mormon for Brigham’s sake, but he voted to impeach Trump twice which means he may as well be a liberal in the eyes of the public)
Mike Pence has committed political suicide. Democrats hate him for his homophobia, sexism, racism, classism, and weird relationship with his wife who he calls “mother.” Republicans hate him because he didn’t break the law to re-elect Trump. Damned if he does, damned if he doesn’t. He’s ultraconservative and super religious, so under normal circumstances he’d be a shoo-in for the nomination, but after breaking with Trump in January he’s dead in the water (he didn’t even really break away, there was literally nothing legal he could do; if he had tried anything it would have been struck down by the courts). And besides that, Pence is boring as hell. He’s milquetoast, he’s a saltine cracker without the salt because it’s too spicy, he orders plain hamburgers with ketchup on the side, all his steaks are cooked well done, he gets a boner when he sees a woman’s ankle and has to self-flagellate for penance, he sends back water if it has too much ice because it makes his teeth hurt. He’s the sacrificial lamb they’d nominate specifically to lose so they can save a stronger candidate for later when there’s no incumbent.
Kamala Harris is basically president-in-waiting (or rather nominee-in-waiting; who knows if she can actually win?) Biden ran on the unspoken promise that he would step down in 2024, making her the front runner, but he has recently walked this back and says he plans on running for a second term himself, pushing Kamala back until 2028 at least. She has good PR and has convinced half the country that she’s a progressive instead of a cop, so if she runs she’ll definitely have an edge over Democratic challengers. The media picks the nominee, and in 24 or 28 they’ll pick her for sure.
It’s becoming increasingly harder for people to stay relevant over multiple decades. I can’t imagine any 2004 candidates running in 2024, but Bob Dole managed to get on as Ford’s #2 and come back as #1 himself twenty years later (he lost both times, but still). Richard Nixon beat the odds and actually got elected in 68 after losing the presidency in 60 and the governorship in 62; he was pretty much coasting on Eisenhower’s legacy, selling himself as the anti-Goldwater, who lost in 64 to LBJ in a landslide.
Trump is acting like he’s going to run again, but whether or not he’ll fully commit is up in the air. On the one hand, his least insane niece says that he doesn’t want to put himself in a position where he could lose again, his ego couldn’t take it, he’s so embarrassed he can’t even admit it happened the first time. On the other hand, he’s too proud to accept defeat and just let some other candidate take his spot as leader of the Republican Party; the Republicans haven’t had a leader since Eisenhower, every other president has disappeared after leaving office.
Nixon resigned in disgrace
Ford was elected out
Reagan disappeared in the 90s because he didn’t want the country to see him deteriorate from Alzheimer’s
Bush Sr was elected out
Bush Jr was despised with approval in the 20s (record low), and could potentially have been tried at The Hague if Obama had balls
Now Trump wants to stick around, even though he’s older than Reagan and FAR less healthy. He’ll probably be dead in 15 years anyway; no way he reaches 90. His mind may already be going, but unlike Reagan he isn’t self aware enough to know it, so he might try to stay in the spotlight even after the dementia sets in. Wo knows?
What his niece says, and what I think is most likely to happen, is that he will pretend like he’s running in order to scam donors out of millions of dollars to pay his exorbitant legal fees, but then bow out of the race before the primaries. Whichever candidate he personally endorses will become the nominee and go up against Biden. Biden will win the popular vote, but I don’t know if he’ll win the electoral college; if this happens for the third time in a quarter century, I expect nothing less than chaos in the streets, perhaps even civil war (well, I expected civil war after 2020, and we’re still standing, so again, who knows?). All I know is that congressional Democrats will throw a hissy fit but do nothing to stop the Republicans from sneaking their way into office without a mandate AGAIN.
The last Republican to legitimately win the presidency was George Bush Sr in 1988. Jr lost to Gore, and only got re-elected in 2004 because he invaded Iraq the year prior. Democrats have won 7 of the last 8 elections, including the last 4 in a row. There are more Democrats and left-leaning independents than Republicans and right-leaners. If the Republicans lose-but-win AGAIN, I don’t think the county could take it; there would be phony calls for secession on TV and legitimate whispers behind the scenes, there would be lawsuits, there would be an even bigger assault on the Capitol than January 6, people would riot, the National Guard would attack brown people with impunity while peacefully corralling the white ones with shields and loudspeakers.
There hasn’t been an assassination since 1963, and no assassination attempt resulting in injury since 1981. Someone threw a grenade at Bush Jr in 2005, but they wrapped a handkerchief around it so the lever didn’t release. I think multiple politicians on both sides of the aisle might be targeted in the event of another electoral college screw up.
Trump could face jail time for his tax crimes, though given his high profile I think he’d get off with a slap on the wrist. He has never faced consequences before, so why would they start now?

NATCHITOCHES – The audience at the 40th annual Natchitoches-Northwestern State University Folk Festival held on July 26-27 was entertained and educated about the rich and diverse cultural offerings of the state. The Festival featured traditional Louisiana foods, Kidfest activities, music, traditional crafts, narrative sessions, musical informances, and cultural exhibits. This year’s Festival theme “Vive la Louisiane!” was a great success, with a very happy audience.
The Festival opened with a rousing dance, beginning with Cajun dance lessons, followed by Gal Holiday and the Honky Tonk Revue, and the night closed out with Bruce Daigrepont Cajun Band. Side stage performances included Natchitoches gospel group Joyful Sounds, 50 Man Machine, which includes NSU faculty Paul Forsyth, Collier Hyams, and Oliver Molina, and an open jam with Max & Marcy, Ed Huey, and Cane Mutiny.
Saturday’s events included performances in Prather Coliseum by 50 Man Machine, Creole la la with Goldman Thibodeaux and the Lawtell Playboys, the Louisiane Vintage Dancers, Brandy Roberts, the Rayo Brothers, Tab Benoit, Jamie Berzas & the Cajun Tradition Band, the Stewart Family and Friends Bluegrass Band, line dance lessons by the Cajun French Music Association Dance Troupe, the Canneci N’de Band of Lipan Apache, zydeco dance lessons by Avila Kahey, Wayne & Same Ol’ 2 Step, Hardrick Rivers and the Rivers Revue Band, Celtic Music with the Kitchen Session of Baton Rouge and a jam session with Max and Marcy.
In addition to stage performances there were narrative sessions and music informances, including conversations about American songwriting, culture & costumes of 19th century Louisiana, Tab Benoit’s The Voice of the Wetlands Fondoution, and the musical journey of Vanessa Niemann (aka Gal Holiday). Also featured was a music informance by Tab Benoit. Outdoor activities included demonstrations by the Central Louisiana Dutch Oven Cookers, the Red River Smiths, the Southern Stock Dog Association, and Wash Day, presented by the West Baton Rouge Museum. This year the Festival continued a series of free workshops for Festival attendees. Festival goers attended a Cajun accordion workshop by Jamie Berzas and Bruce Daigrepont.
The annual Louisiana State Fiddle Championship was also held on Saturday in the Magale Recital Hall as part of the Festival. Fiddle Championship judges included Steve Birdwell, Steve Harper, Henry Hemple, and Clancey Stewart. The new Louisiana Grand Champion is Ron Yule of DeRidder. Second place winner was Joe Suchanek of Merryville, with Owen Meche of Arnauldville placing third. Meche also took first place in the 21 and under championship division.
Suchanek took first in the 60 and up championship division, with Yule coming in second, Birgit Murphy of Opelousas in third, Mark Young of Balise in fourth, Wilfred Luttrell of DeRidder in fifth, and Ron Pace of Alexandria in sixth. Luttrell and Yule also took first place in the twin fiddles competition.
As the new Louisiana State Fiddle champion, Yule also performed on the main stage in Prather Coliseum. Dr. Lisa Abney managed the fiddle championship. Dr. Susan Roach from Louisiana Tech University emceed the championship.
Four musicians and a renowned filé maker were inducted into the Louisiana Folklife Center’s Hall of Master Folk Artists. Inductees included Louisiana Music Hall of Famer Tab Benoit, who also served as honorary Festival Chair, Cajun musicians Jamie Berzas and Bruce Daigrepont, filé maker John Oswald Colson, and country singer Vanessa Niemann.
Dr. Shane Rasmussen, director of the Louisiana Folklife Center, led the induction ceremony, assisted by State Representative Kenny Cox and Dustin Fuqua, Chief of Resource Management at Cane River Creole National Historical Park. In addition, the honorary award of Folklife Angel was given to long-time Festival crew chief James Christopher Callahan, an NSU alumnus.
In addition to 4 book signings and 8 exhibits by such groups as state parks and archives, over 70 craftspeople displayed their traditional work on Saturday. These craftspeople demonstrated and discussed their work with the Festival patrons. Craftspeople displayed accordion making, beadwork, baskets, Czech Pysanky eggs, filé making, flintknapping, folk art, knives, music instruments, quilting, pottery, spinning & weaving, tatting, walking sticks, whittling and needlework, wood carving, and more. 8 food vendors provided a cornucopia of traditional Louisiana foods to the Festival audience.
Support for the Louisiana State Fiddle Championship and the Natchitoches-NSU Folk Festival was provided by grants from the Cane River National Heritage Area, Inc., the Louisiana Division of the Arts Decentralized Arts Fund Program, the Louisiana Office of Tourism, the Natchitoches Historic District Development Commission, the National Endowment for the Arts, the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Foundation, and the Shreveport Regional Arts Council.

Dear Gus & Magnus,
Will's family just got back from spending four weeks in Italy, so he and John delayed celebrating Father's Day with Monkle until today, when they took him to lunch at The Oyster Bar. I joined in.
It's odd that just the four of us have had dozens (if not hundreds) of meals together, but I can't remember the last time we did. If ever there is a time when I miss my dad, it's laughing with these guys -- probably because the sense of humor I share with Will and John was mostly forged in the fire lit by Monkle and my dad.
Dad.

Predictions for every NFL team from those who know their team best
Tumblr media
With no scrimmages or preseason, here is what to expect.
The hopes and dreams of 32 fanbases hang in the balance with the NFL season almost upon us. It’s been a bizarre lead up to the season due to the Covid-19 pandemic, meaning we have much less information than we normally would entering the season.
Normally we get at least some information from scrimmages and preseason by now. Instead we’re going off gut feelings and beliefs. We asked our network of team blogs (and a couple from your’s truly) to give us their predictions for their beloved teams in the hopes to learn more. Here’s what they think from the fans who know their teams the best.
Arizona Cardinals
The Cardinals will live and die by their offense. The Cardinals did little to address their defense in the offseason, instead further stacking the offense by adding DeAndre Hopkins. Hopkins and Larry Fitzgerald are a quarterback’s dream, and Kyler Murray should have major success through the air this season. Unfortunately the defense still won’t be enough to have them compete in the NFC West ... yet.
— James Dator, SB Nation
Atlanta Falcons
The Falcons will be looking to put two straight years of mediocrity behind them and take a veteran team on a deep playoff run. With a ton of money committed to stars and short-term bets on players like Todd Gurley and Dante Fowler Jr., this team is built to contend right now and more or less has to keep the current brain trust around.
— Dave Choate, The Falcoholic
Baltimore Ravens
The Ravens will win the Super Bowl. With nearly all of their high-level talent returning and multiple big-name pass rushers being added to the defense, the Ravens will end the season hoisting the Lombardi trophy.
— Kyle Barber, Baltimore Beatdown
Buffalo Bills
The Bills will sink their teeth into the AFC East. The window is wide open for the Bills after years of being in New England’s shadow. While the Patriots move on from Tom Brady, and the rest of the division is, well, the Dolphins and Jets — there’s a major chance for the Bills to dominate and try to becoming the source of consistency in the division.
— James Dator, SB Nation
Carolina Panthers
The Panthers will try to rebuild the franchise into a consistent winner under new head coach Matt Rhule, something they haven’t been since... well, since the team was founded in 1995. They’re still searching for their first ever back-to-back winning seasons, and they currently have a long, rocky road ahead if they plan to accomplish that goal anytime soon.
— Bradley Smith, Cat Scratch Reader
Chicago Bears
The Bears will once again have one of the best defenses in the NFL, but as is Chicago tradition, they’ll only go as far as the quarterback can take them. If Mitchell Trubisky — or Nick Foles — can simply manage the offense, the Bears will be back in the playoffs.
— Lester A. Wiltfong Jr., Windy City Gridiron
Cincinnati Bengals
The Bengals will bounce back faster than anyone expected. Joe Burrow is NFL ready from the jump, and the bones of this team are still good. Expect them to at least be competitive this season, and make people wonder why they were so bad a year ago.
— James Dator, SB Nation
Cleveland Browns
The Browns will have the best rushing attack in the NFL, but only when the passing game gets more efficient mid-way through the season will Cleveland start being the favorite to win every week as opposed to just a crapshoot. That will put them in the mix for a late-season wildcard chase in the AFC.
— Chris Pokorny, Dawgs By Nature
Dallas Cowboys
The Cowboys will see if Jason Garrett was the issue with their talented roster falling short of expectations. Mike McCarthy takes over as head coach and he will try to elevate the Cowboys into a team that can win in the playoffs.
— Dave Halprin, Blogging The Boys
Denver Broncos
The Broncos will surprise a lot of people. That defense is going to be sneaky elite, so watch out!
— Tim Lynch, Mile High Report
Detroit Lions
The Lions will have a top five offense with a healthy Matthew Stafford and new weapons in the backfield. If the defense can improve even marginally, they will be in the NFC North race come December.
— Jeremy Reisman, Pride of Detriot
Green Bay Packers
The Packers will be an NFC contender again, and even if they don’t match their lofty 13-3 record from a year ago they could be a better team overall. The defense returns almost all of the key players, featuring a terrifying pass rush and a strong secondary, while Aaron Rodgers looks poised for a bit of a bounce-back in his second year in Matt LaFleur’s offense.
— Evan Western, Acme Packing Company
Houston Texans
The Texans will be unpredictable. Yes, that sounds weird for a prediction — but so much is up in the air. Houston went some big roster shifts this offseason, notably headlined by trading DeAndre Hopkins, but as long as DeShaun Watson is under center this team can still make noise and win the AFC South.
— James Dator, SB Nation
Indianapolis Colts
The Colts will reclaim the AFC South title with a potent rushing attack, dominant offensive line and veteran quarterback leadership. The young defense will start to put everything together as All Pros Darius Leonard and DeForest Buckner complement each other, second year cornerback Rock Ya-Sin takes a second-year leap, and Kenny Moore returns to the field healthy as one of the league’s best nickel corners.
— Brett Mock, Stampede Blue
Jacksonville Jaguars
The Jaguars will try to avoid suffering their ninth losing season since 2011. With 16 rookies included on the roster going into the season opener, a question mark at quarterback in Gardner Minshew, and a defense that traded away key players like Calais Campbell and A.J. Bouye, it looks to be another year of heartbreak in Duval.
— Ryan Day, Big Cat Country
Kansas City Chiefs
The Chiefs will become the first NFL team to repeat as Super Bowl champions since 2005. During the most uncertain of times, they returned nearly all of their starters from their championship team, highlighted by the game’s best quarterback in Patrick Mahomes.
— Pete Sweeney, Arrowhead Pride
Las Vegas Raiders
The Raiders will be better on both offense and defense and will vie for an AFC playoff berth.
— Bill Williamson, Silver & Black Pride
Los Angeles Rams
The Rams will find the explosiveness on offense that they had in 2018 but lost last year and a surprise star player in the front-seven besides Aaron Donald, but who that is remains to be seen.
— Kenny Arthur, Turf Show Times
Miami Dolphins
The Dolphins will look to build upon a surprise five-win season in 2019 after being called the “worst team ever” by some analysts. Under Ryan Fitzpatrick, this year is the stage-setter for the Dolphins to return to being a long-term contender once Tua Tagovailoa takes over late in the year or in 2021.
— Kevin Nogle, The Phinsider
Minnesota Vikings
The Vikings will break their Bret Saberhagen-esque cycle of being very good in odd-numbered years and average in even-numbered years under Mike Zimmer. Despite their offseason losses, the Vikings still have a lot of talent, and the NFC North is there for the taking. The Vikings will do just that, nabbing their first division title since 2017.
— Christopher Gates, Daily Norseman
New England Patriots
The Patriots will continue to try to do their jobs. Are those jobs good enough to keep the dynasty alive, though? That’s the question...
— Bernd Buchmasser, Pats Pulpit
New Orleans Saints
The Saints will finally be able to add a second Super Bowl to the resume of Drew Brees. After getting agonizingly close the past few seasons, the Saints will finally take care of business in the playoffs to let Drew Brees ride off into the sunset of retirement as a champion.
— Christopher Dunnells, Canal Street Chronicles
New York Giants
The Giants will try to get turned around after going 12-36 over the past three seasons. The Giants are starting over with rookie head coach Joe Judge and second-year quarterback Daniel Jones.
— Ed Valentine, Big Blue View
New York Jets
The Jets will begin their latest rebuild. New general manager Joe Douglas made the first investments in the offseason by focusing on the offensive line. It is overdue, but the Jets have finally started to put pieces around Sam Darnold.
- John Butchko, Gang Green Nation
Philadelphia Eagles
The Eagles will make the playoffs for the fourth straight season but fail to win more than one playoff game at most due to offensive line issues.
— Brandon Lee Gowton, Bleeding Green Nation
Pittsburgh Steelers
The Steelers will look to ride Ben Roethlisberger‘s surgically repaired elbow back to the postseason. With an elite defense and a two-time Super Bowl champion commanding the huddle, the Steelers have pushed all their chips in for the 2020 season.
— Jeff Hartman, Behind the Steel Curtain
San Diego Chargers
The Chargers will see if Philip Rivers was really in decline last season, or if it was his surrounding cast that couldn’t get the job done. However, injuries remain a nuisance as they’ve already lost their best player on defense for the year.
— Michael Peterson, Bolts from the Blue
San Francisco 49ers
The 49ers will turn into an offensive juggernaut, but come up short in the Super Bowl for the second season in a row. After a season’s worth of offensive highlights, ironically enough, it’s the defense that lets the team down in the big game.
— Kyle Posey, Niners Nation
Seattle Seahawks
The Seahawks will make their first serious Super Bowl run since the 2014 season. With an offense led by an MVP contender in Russell Wilson, as well as a defense with as talented a linebacker and secondary group as any in the NFL, Seattle is poised to win its first NFC West title since 2016, with the hope of greater things to come from there.
- Mookie Alexander, Field Gulls
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Buccaneers will be one of the most improved and most successful teams in the NFL thanks to a man they call Tom Brady. Can we say Super Bowl?
— Gil Arcia, Bucs Nation
Tennessee Titans
The Titans will find themselves playing in the final four again, but this year they will get over the hump and make the Super Bowl.
— Jimmy Morris, Music City Miracles
Washington Football Team
The Washington Football Team will struggle, but finally show some signs of life. Ron Rivera is a coach players love to give all their effort to, and that alone should make Washington at least watchable this season. It’s not much, but it’s progress.
— Scott Jennings, Hogs Haven

CANTLON'S CORNER: HOCKEY NEWS AND NOTES VOLUME 9
Tumblr media
BY: Gerry Cantlon, Howlings HARTFORD, CT - The news cycle is overflowing with COVID-19-related stories and the sports world, and hockey in-particular is no exception. AHL AWARDS With the 2019-020 season now officially canceled the parade of end of season awards begins. Former Quinnipiac Bobcat (ECACHL), Sam Anas, a fourth-year pro who finished the season with 20 goals and 50 assists for a league-best 70 points while skating in all 63 games for the Iowa Wild, won the AHL John B. Sollenberger Trophy. Anas 26, represented Iowa at the 2020 AHL All-Star Classic in Ontario, CA and is Iowa’s franchise leader in career assists (125) and points (197). He ranks second in goals (72) and games played (259). He was signed as a free agent by the Minnesota Wild on April 15, 2016. In the trophy announcement, Anas has a teammate's company. Gerald Mayhew led the AHL with 39 goals and totaled 61 points in just 49 games with Iowa this season. He wins the Willie Marshall Award for the most goals scored in the season. That award honors the AHL's all-time leading scorer in goals, assists, total points, and games played. In his third pro campaign since coming out of Ferris State University (WCHA), Mayhew made his NHL debut in 2019-20 where he notched two goals in 13 games with Minnesota. He skated in the 2020 AHL All-Star Classic and appeared in 209 career AHL contests – all with Iowa – where he scored a franchise-record 88 goals as well as 72 assists (160 points). Mayhew signed his first NHL contract with Minnesota on May 10, 2019, after playing two seasons on an AHL deal. The AHL awarded Troy Grosenick and Connor Ingram of the Milwaukee Admirals as the recipients of the Harry “Hap” Holmes Memorial Award for the 2019-20 season. Since 1972, the award has been presented to the goaltender(s) with at least 25 games played on the team which allows the fewest goals per game in the regular season. The Admirals allowed an average of 2.24 goals per game in 2019-20 while posting a league-best record of 41-14-5-3 (90 points, .714). Milwaukee finished with the fewest goals against in the AHL for the first time in the franchise’s 19 seasons in the league. Grosenick, who won the Aldege “Baz” Bastien Memorial Award as the AHL’s outstanding goaltender back in 2016-17, made 33 appearances for the Admirals this season. Grosenick is a seventh-year pro and went 20-9-3 with a 2.29 goals-against average, a .920 save percentage, and two shutouts. A Milwaukee native, Grosenick was also named the recipient of the AHL’s Yanick Dupre Memorial Award for his outstanding community work in 2019-20. Ingram was 21-5-5 in 33 games for Milwaukee during the 2019-20 season and ranked third in the AHL in both goals-against average (1.92) and save percentage (.933) while also posting two shutouts. A third-year pro, Ingram was honored with his second consecutive selection to the AHL All-Star Classic this year and started his pro career in Syracuse eight appearances. In other AHL news, The Hershey Bears and Washington Capitals agreed to extend their very solid affiliation relationship to the 2023-24 season. The two teams have been together since 2005. Since then the Bears have made the AHL playoffs 12 times in 15 years and are won three Calder Cup titles in five appearances. CONNECTICUT’S NEWEST JUNIOR TEAM The new hockey hotbed in the Nutmeg State is Danbury. Earlier in the week, Danbury saw its newest addition to the Hat Tricks family and the fourth team of its portfolio playing out of the Danbury Ice Arena. The Tier II North American Hockey League (NAHL) announced Tuesday, the relocation of the Wilkes Barre/Scranton Knights. They will be renamed the Danbury Jr. Hat Tricks for the upcoming 2020-21 season. "We are looking forward to having NAHL hockey right here in town, which brings the highest level of junior hockey to the area. The addition of this team aligns with our vision of turning the Danbury Arena into a premier hockey destination.  We can't wait to drop the puck. We know our fans are going to love this team and the energy it brings,” Herm Sorcher, Partner of DP 110, the ownership group of the Danbury Arena, said. Bill McCreary, the head coach for the FPHL Hat Tricks team last season has been named the first GM/Head coach for the Jr. Hat Tricks. McCreary is an NAHL grad. He played for the Texas Tornado where he collected 45 goals and 71 assists in 98 career games. He was named to the NAHL All-Rookie team and an NAHL First Team All-Star during the 2002-03 season. “The arrival of the NAHL is an exciting moment for not only hockey in Danbury but the entire state of Connecticut. The North American Hockey League has been instrumental in developing players into NCAA student-athletes and we are honored to continue that tradition,” McCreary said. “We are extremely excited to be able to build a culture that embodies the spirit of the NAHL while focusing on developing our players into future NCAA and professional athletes. It’s our commitment to not only helping our players achieve their goals but to also build a ‘family’ that competes for a Robertson Cup year-in and year-out." McCreary is a nine-year (2006-15) minor league hockey veteran as both a player and coach with a playing resume that includes time spent with the Trenton Titans (ECHL), Huntsville Havoc (SPHL), New Mexico Scorpions (CHL) and the New Jersey Outlaws (FHL). He was part of championship teams in both Hunstville (2010) and New Jersey (2012), where he served a dual role as player-coach. Collegiately, McCreary played for Providence College (Hockey East) and Curry College (MA) (ECAC-NE). The other Danbury teams include the NA3HL Danbury Colonials and a youth team. The building is also home to a fifth team, the NWHL's Connecticut Whale. The Knights franchise has been a member of the NAHL since the 2015-16 season. The Knights enjoyed its’ most successful season to date in 2018. They reached 30 wins in the regular season, earning 66 points in the standings to clinch a playoff berth for the third consecutive season. The team not only made the playoffs but also won its’ first playoff series, where they dispatched the New Jersey Titans in a best-of-five series that went the distance. The following round, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton swept the Philadelphia Rebels, thus clinching the 2018 NAHL East Division earning the opportunity to compete for the NAHL Robertson Cup Championship. The Junior Hat Tricks will play in the seven-team NAHL East Division with the New Jersey (Middletown) Titans, Johnstown (PA) Tomahawks, Jamestown (NY) Rebels, Maryland (Odenton, MD) Black Bears, Northeast (Attleboro, MA) Generals, and the Maine (Lewiston) Nordiques. Danbury participated in their first NAHL hockey business as part of the league's Supplemental Draft where they took Andrew Mancini from Canterbury Prep School Saints (New Milford) with the 13th selection and then with their second pick 40th overall drafted Cole Vallese (Salisbury Prep) who is a Providence College (HE) commit for 2021-22. Other names of note include the 19th overall pick, Cam Knuble, the son of former New York Ranger, Mike Knuble, who was taken by the Shreveport (LA) Mudbugs, He was also taken in the USHL Draft 2016 by the Des Moines Buccaneers in the 6th round 82nd overall. The 34th selection was Cooper Swift (West Hartford/Choate Prep), who was taken by the Maine Nordiques. He played four games with Langley (BCHL) and most of the season with New Jersey (NCDC). Jack Ring (Guilford) went 71st overall to the Fairbanks (AK) Ice Dogs. He played for New Hampton (NH) School last season. The NAHL also announced the rebranding of two teams for next season. The first is the St. Cloud (MN) Blizzard who moved from Brookings, MN last year and will now be known as the St. Cloud Norsemen playing in the NAHL Central Division The second is the Topeka (KS) Pilots who become the Kansas City Scouts in the fall. That named was used after the NHL team of the mid-1970s for two years (1974-1976) before the franchise was moved to Colorado to become the Rockies who eventually became the New Jersey Devils. The NAHL is a 26 team league with Danbury as its second foray into the Northeast has primarily been located in the US Midwest and Southwest. The league has teams in Odessa, TX, Shreveport, LA, Amarillo, TX , Springfield, MO, Chippewa Falls, WI, West Minot, ND, and two teams in Alaska, the Fairbanks Ice Dogs and the Kenai River Brown Bears in Soldotna. A 27th team will be coming in 2021-22 in the Wichita Falls (TX) Warriors. TRANSACTIONS Ex-Hartford Wolf Pack, Oscar Lindberg, leaves EV Zug (Switzerland-LNA) and heads to Dynamo Moscow (Russia-KHL). Markus Granlund, who split the year between Bakersfield and Edmonton, departs for Salvat Yulaev (Russia-KHL) becoming the 15th AHL player to sign overseas for next season. 12 of 31 teams have seen a player sign in Europe. UCONN gets another commit from Russia for the fall making him a critical flip from a powerful Hockey East opponent. Artem Shlaine, who has dual citizenship (US/Russia) comes out of the highly-respected Shattuck St. Mary’s Sabres program in Faribault, MN. He was originally a BU commit last May but was scheduled to go for the 2021-22 season for the Terriers, but he has selected the Huskies and will be on campus in the fall. He also had offers from Boston College and Ohio State. Shlaine is 6’1 and 175lbs. He is a left-handed shooting center who resides in Florida. His family moved from Moscow where he scored 60 points in 44 games this past season. Here in the states this season, in 46 games, Shlaine had 26 goals and 52 assists (78 points). Last season, for SSM he posted 90 points in 56 games played including 34 goals and 56 assists while wearing the number 13 jersey. In six games with Muskegon (USHL) this season, he had two goals and three points. Last month, Shlaine was drafted in the third round (56th overall) in the OHL Priority Draft by the Owen Sound Attack. A sixth-round (93rd overall) draft pick in 2018 of USHL Sioux Falls, he suited up for the Stampede in two playoff games last season. In the Central Scouting Bureau (CSB) final list, he joins three other Huskies who are eligible to be drafted he was in the 94th spot, with a pair of sophomore defenseman, Yan Kuznetsov was rated the highest of the four at 36th, Jacob Flynn was 112th and incoming freshmen East Haven’s Nick Capone at 126th. USA Hockey announced on Wednesday that Ted Donato (Harvard-ECACHL), Kris Mayotte (Michigan-Big 10) and Steve Miller (Ohio State - Big 10) will serve as assistant coaches. Theresa Feaster (Providence) will be video coach for the 2021 U.S. National Junior Team scheduled to compete in the 2021 IIHF World Junior Championship that's presently scheduled for December 26, 2020, to January 5, 2021, in Edmonton and Red Deer, Alberta.
