Notes:

Mikey really likes taking photos of me. Especially when a) I'm not paying attention or b) I'm pissed at him.

Our favorite hobby together is napping (and fighting) so all of our friends and family take photos of us sleeping in random ass places (not included is a photo of us sleeping on the train).

His first love is his bike. His second is dessert. I'm in third place.

I mentioned it in Kei's post, but they're competing for number of hickies.

50/50 chance that our current text thread is being communicated exclusively through cat memes.

Even though we're legally married, I spend the least amount of time with him (our schedules just do not work (and we get hella toxic)), so when he's feeling needy he sends me selfies of his back and shoulders because he knows it's my one weakness.

Not included is his folder of my "top ten hottest brawls" where he has them ranked based on how hot I look covered in someone else's blood. There's a subfolder in there of all the others that don't crack the top ten; he rotates them from time to time when the mood strikes him.

Fun fact unrelated to Mikey's camera roll: I don't exist in the story until after Takemichi makes his final time leap.

PILOT BOROVIĆ VJERUJE DA ĆE GA SRBIJA OSUDITI! ‘Možda još Hrvatska može nešto učiniti’: Sprema im se isto što i osuđenim Srbima

Apelacijski sud u Beogradu potvrdio je rješenje Višeg suda u Beogradu kojim je potvrđena prva optužnica koju je srpsko Tužiteljstvo za ratne zločine podiglo protiv četvorice časnika Hrvatskog ratnog zrakoplovstva. Vladimir Mikac (67), Zdenko Radulj (69), Željko Jelenić (69) i Danijel Borović (64) terete se da su tijekom VRO Oluja izvršili kazneno djelo ratni zločini protiv civilnog stanovništva.

Borović računa na pomoć države

Žalbe koje su podnijeli odvjetnici okrivljenika, drugostupanjski je sud odbio, pa je tako ovom potvrdom optužnice cijeli slučaj postao konkretan. O tome smo pričali s jednim od optuženih pilota Danijelom Borovićem koji na samom početku kaže kako je već rekao sve što ima za reći, no ipak je dodao i ovo: “Sada je na redu naša država, naše pravosuđe… Vjerujem da postoji neki pravni ‘alat’ kojim bi se ovo spriječilo, jer u suprotnom, Srbija će započeti sa suđenjem i ovisno o dokazima kojima raspolaže – donijeti presudu. Čekam potez naše Vlade, možda se još nešto može učiniti”, doznajemo od ratnog pilota Borovića. Naš sugovornik vjeruje da će se dogoditi isto kao i optuženima za raketiranje Banskih dvora:

Blatantly Partisan Party Review II: Aussie Battler Party

Prior reviews: none; this is a new party.

The Aussie Battler Party is a disreputable group that does not deserve your support. I want to emphasise that I do not make that statement only to those who share my politics, but to everyone. Fellow election blogger Cate Speaks reviewed them on the basis of their website content on 12 November. By the time I tweeted about them on 15 November (based on a read of their website the previous evening), the content had changed. It is now different again. In the space of a week, this party has had three different policy platforms and at the time of writing it has provided no explanation for the changes. The last post on their Facebook page is dated 12 November.

The original Aussie Battler platform included policies to house the homeless in shipping containers and to give kids a free mouthguard annually. By the time I tweeted about them, they had morphed into rabble-rousing far-right frothers with extremely punitive policies on crime and immigration, including a threat to return the families of migrants who committed a violent crime. To underscore how breathtakingly idiotic that policy is, an abusive husband and father could rather easily use it to intimidate his family into silence: “if you tell the cops that I beat your mum and touch your sister, we are all going back, including you, so zip it!” These policies got a suitably unflattering write-up in the Age.

Yesterday, 17 November, Cate drew attention to another change. The Aussie Battlers now have a pretty vague centrist platform that does not commit to much of anything. She is quite right to condemn this as a bait-and-switch. I would go further: it is duplicity born of rank incompetence. This is not the behaviour of a political party that deserves a shred of support even from those who might have endorsed any of the policies they have promoted at some juncture in the past week. I will accordingly give the Battlers my second-last preference, ahead only of the worst party in contention, the subject of a forthcoming review, the Australian Liberty Alliance.

By the way, notes on two candidates:

The lead candidate in Northern Metropolitan is Walter Mikac, whose wife and two daughters were murdered in the Port Arthur massacre, and who subsequently founded the Alannah and Madeline Foundation for children who are victims of violent crime. If you personally support Mikac and are a voter in Northern Metro, I urge you to preference him separately and higher than the other member of his party. I, however, question his association with the Aussie Battler Party, especially as he does not appear to have made any statement on the changing policy platform or the fact that their preferences tend to favour pro-gun parties despite his advocacy for gun control.

The lead candidate in Eastern Victoria is Vern Hughes, a serial candidate who seems to stand for a different party at each election. He started out on the far left and has since worked his way through a whole bunch of other minor groupings. It is no longer clear what on earth he stands for other than trying to gain office through whatever party will have him.

I still haven't posted anything about ace x senku (because fuck him), but I'm thinking about how that ship handles our dynamic.

Fundamentally, ace x senku and mikace are the same exact ship. INTP x INTP at our very worst. Competitive and methodical and lofty goals and misunderstandings and over analyzing motivations.

But where mikace becomes very codependent very quickly, even just as friends - ace x senku is forced apart right when we would have become codependent, and have to grow as individuals separately from each other. I think Senku is dead for a good while. Senku has to learn how to work through his blocks without me there to bounce ideas off of.

Which is why Ryusui is an important part of ace x senku. I have to learn to heal from Senku's "betrayals" (yes, plural) and Ryusui provides the love and understanding for me to do that. Ryusui grounds me and shows me a different way of viewing the world. I haven't figured out our break-up yet, but I know that it's going to be amicable and as friends. Ryusui is going to realize that the person I need, now that I've grown and healed, isn't him. And he'll be okay with it because he just wants to see me happy.

Mikace doesn't learn how to exist without each other. We break up every other week. We make our friends pick sides. When we're younger (15/16) we get into cat fights. More than once, we've both ended up with black eyes and sprained wrists or ankles because we thought a sparring match would help solve an argument. We do eventually grow as individuals, but all of our growth happens much too late in the relationship and only after a dozen or so interventions, led by Takemichi.

So yeah, mikace and ace x senku are the same ship, fundamentally. They both bring out the worst in me, and I believe I'd bring out the worst in them (this is also why mikace is exclusively final timeskip). But because of a correctly timed Tsukasa, ace x senku is a much healthier ship (when we get there, eventually; it's pretty toxic for a long while after the empire is dissolved).

#41 Any Ordinary Day by Leigh Sales

Premise:

“Blindsides, resilience and what happens after the worst day of your life.”

Reflections:

The thought of confronting grief terrifies me. I’ve always been in awe of people who manage grief in constructive ways - likening them to super-humans - despite intellectually knowing that these people haven’t necessarily set out to choose the pathways they are on. Yet regardless of my overt avoidance, I can recognise that this is a useful skill set to have in one’s tool belt. And so, when a person I admire published a book addressing this topic, I thought it was high time for me to start exploring it for myself too.

Leigh Sales’ ‘Any Ordinary Day’ tackles people’s experiences of grief and ‘what happens after the worst day of your life’. She draws on her own personal, traumatic ordeals and interviews a range of individuals who have gone through immense trauma themselves to understand how people cope when confronted with the unimaginable.

Each chapter begins with Sales interviewing a person who has experienced a traumatic event, outlining the crises they have faced and how they have rebuilt their lives. In the second half, Sales draws on research and expert opinion to unpack why individuals react to grief in the variety of ways that they do. Many of Sales’ interviewees will be familiar to you; such as Walter Mikac, whose wife, Nanette, and two daughters, Madeline and Alannah, were murdered in the 1996 Port Arthur massacre; as well as Stuart Diver, who was the sole survivor of the 1997 Thredbo landslide. The chapters I found particularly compelling include one that unpacks the general public’s fascination with traumatic stories; another detailing the importance of a leader’s response in times of crisis; and a chapter about how people cope with working in fields constantly surrounded by grief and trauma. These are sections I find myself continuing to reflect on as the world navigates itself through the current pandemic.

Sales is a gracious interviewer, appreciative of the trust she has been awarded by her interviewees to tell their difficult stories. She straddles the difficult line of being a compassionate interviewer and asking the awkward, and at times invasive, questions she is known for as a journalist, justifying them by stating that it’s part of her job to ask the questions that are on the general public’s mind. This was the part I had the most difficulty with reconciling, as I’m uncomfortable with the media making spectacles out of other people’s tragedies. Nevertheless, Sales identifies her own biases and blindsides, permitting readers to acknowledge and confront their own shortcomings when dealing with uncomfortable, existential questions.

Needless to say, I should have known that I’d be in good hands when I was deliberating over the perfect time to read this. ‘Any Ordinary Day’ is a simultaneously absorbing and heart-wrenching read that offers readers a pathway to understanding how to move on from times of crisis. It does this not by sugar-coating the pain experienced from traumatic incidents, or by proving glib solutions for coping with grief. Instead, Sales offers an encouraging hand of support to assure readers that they are not alone in their suffering and that difficult circumstances, though seeming insurmountable at the time, will pass. While this may sound like an unremarkable and frankly ordinary message to convey, the ability to endure and persevere when your world has been turned upside down is an extraordinary feat, and this book is a much needed reminder that it is possible.

I chose ‘Yesterday’ for a few key reasons. Firstly, Sales is a diehard Beatles and Sir Paul McCartney fan, having the privilege of interviewing the knighted musician on his 2017 Australian tour. Secondly, the lyrics, whilst most plausibly about an upsetting breakup, do also act as a suitable, broader metaphor for the melancholy we feel about times that have passed and the yearning to return to ostensibly simpler periods. Whilst the individuals Sales interviews don’t blatantly yearn for time to be rewound, they express an understanding that they have been irrevocably changed by the difficulties they have experienced; a sentiment that is also conveyed in the lyrics. Finally, the somber and wistful melody, which Sir Paul recounts having conjured in his dreams, complements the tone of the book beautifully, serving as an ideal backing track to it.

Fun fact: the working title of ‘Yesterday’ was originally ‘Scrambled Eggs’ - imagine how different the song would be if that had stuck!

U Srbiji potvrđena optužnica protiv četvorice hrvatskih pilota

Srpski mediji javljaju kako je Apelacijski sud u Beogradu potvrdio rješenje Višeg suda u Beogradu kojim je potvrđena optužnica srpskog Tužiteljstva za ratne zločine protiv četvorice časnika Hrvatskog ratnog zrakoplovstva za “ratne zločine počinjene u vojno redarstvenoj akciji Oluja 1995. godine”. Politika piše kako bi suđenje uskoro trebalo početi.     Kako list navodi, Apelacijski sud u Beogradu potvrdio je optužnicu kojom se Vladimir Mikac, Zdenko Radulja, Željko Jelenić i Danijel Borović terete za ratni zločin protiv civilnog stanovništva , javlja N1. Odjel za ratne zločine Apelacijskog suda u Beogradu donio je 11. kolovoza ove godine rješenje kojim je odbilo kao neosnovane sve žalbe branitelja protiv prvostupanjskog, odnosno rješenja kojim je Kazneno izvanraspravno vijeće Višeg suda u Beogradu potvrdilo optužnicu. „Po nalaženju Apelacijskog suda, prvostupanjski sud je pravilno zaključio da u konkretnom slučaju ima dovoljno dokaza da se osnovana sumnja da su okrivljeni učinili ratni zločin protiv civilnog stanovništva u saizvršilaštvu, podigne na nivo opravdane sumnje koja je neophodni uvjet za podizanje optužnice“, rekla je glasnogovornica Apelcijskog suda Mirjana Piljić.        ovime predlažemo privremeno gašenje javne rasvjete na nekoliko lokacija u Zagrebu, a koje su stanište krijesnica. Mjera se predlaže s ciljem zaštite te i drugih životinjskih vrsta i njihovih prirodnih staništa na prostoru grada Zagreba i to tijekom najaktivnijeg razdoblja populacije krijesnica, odnosno kao konkretna mjera smanjenja svjetlosnog onečišćenja.

Budući da proizvodnja svjetla krijesnicama služi za komunikaciju, pronalaženje partnera, parenje i upozoravanje predatora radi zaštite vlastitog staništa, najveći neprijatelj im je upravo svjetlosno onečišćenje i umjetna rasvjeta.

Prema podacima međunarodnog znanstvenog istraživanja "The impact of artificial light at night on nocturnal insects: A review and synthesis" https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1002/ece3.4557 vrsta krijesnice najrasprostranjenija u Hrvatskoj, Lampyris noctiluca, počinje s treptanjem svjetla tek kad je svjetlost ambijenta ispod 1.3 luksa.

Krijesnice su najaktivnije u mjesecu lipnju, pa bi gašenje javne rasvjete na niže navedenim lokacijama trebalo organizirati čim prije, s trajanjem do sredine srpnja.

Niže navedene lokacije odabrane su po kriteriju kojim će gašenje rasvjete biti opravdano očuvanjem populacije krijesnica u Zagrebu, s minimalnim utjecajem na sigurnost građana i prometa.

Privremeno gašenje javne rasvjete predlaže se svaki dan nakon 22 sata u periodu od početka lipnja do 15. srpnja 2019. na sljedećim lokacijama:  

 DUBRAVKIN PUT

S obzirom na intenzivnu sezonu krijesnica, predlažemo što hitnije gašenje javne rasvjete na lokaciji Dubravkin put kao prioritetnoj lokaciji. Dubravkin put u cjelosti prolazi prostorom park-šume koja je, osim za krijesnice, stanište niz zaštićenih i drugih životinjskih vrsta, te predstavlja izuzetno vrijednu zelenu oazu u samom središtu grada, čime neizmjerno doprinosi bioraznolikosti i ekosustavu Zagreba.    

Frekvencija korištenja Dubravkinog puta u noćnim satima je izuzetno niska do nepostojeća, odnosno glavnina korištenja šetnice u noćnim satima od strane građana je u razdoblju do 22 sata, a sama staza ne predstavlja važnu pješačku komunikacijsku trasu.

Utoliko predlažemo da se u intenzivnom periodu aktivnosti krijesnica (15.lipnja do 15. srpnja) na potezu čitavog Dubravkinog puta javna rasvjeta ili opće ne pali ili u cjelosti ugasi od nakasnije 22 sata te da ostane ugašena čitavu noć.

Također molimo da – zbog važnosti lokacije za zagrebački ekosustav i bioraznolikost – Gradski zavod za zaštitu spomenika kulture i prirode te Odbor za zaštitu prirode razmotre da se na lokaciji Dubravkin put javna rasvjeta gasi tijekom cijele godine i to na sljedeći način:.

-          tijekom intenzivnog razdoblja aktivnosti krijesnica (lipanj - sredina srpnja) da se ne pali opće ili gasi od najkasnije 22 sata.  

-          ostali dio godine od 23 sata ili iza ponoći    

Praksa gašenja javne rasvjete u svim gradskim park-šumama trebala bi se provoditi po istom modelu na sve slične prostore koji su značajna staništa zaštićenih i drugih životinjskih vrsta, a čije gašenje ne predstavlja sigurnosni ni ikakav drugi problem, dok istovremeno uvelike doprinosi održanju bioraznolikosti i ekosustava grada Zagreba.

U prilog incijative navodimo i podatak da je incijativa tehnički vrlo lako izvediva te da takva praksa odavno postoji u Zagrebu, primjerice potpuno gašenje javne rasvjete na Cmroku za potrebe astronomskih promatranja 2007., 2011., i 2017. godine.  

U tijeku je znanstveni projekt kojemu je cilj osvijestiti građane o problemu smanjenja broja populacija krijesnica te uključiti građane u prikupljanje podataka o letu krijesnica na području Zagreba i ostalih dijelova Hrvatske. Navedeni projekt pod nazivom „Krešo krijesnica“ pokrenut je na inicijativu znanstvenika i studenata Agronomskog fakulteta Sveučilišta u Zagrebu i Sveučilišta u Wollongongu (Australija). Na temelju pristiglih dojava u posljednjih tjedan dana predložemo sljedeće:

OSTALE LOKACIJE ZA KOJE PREDLAŽEMO PRIVREMENO GAŠENJE JAVNE RASVJETE IZA 22 SATA ILI PONOĆI TIJEKOM LIPNJA I PRVE POLOVICE SRPNJA:

Također predlažemo da se privremeno gašenje javne rasvjete razmotri i na sljedećim lokacijama gdje obitavaju i viđene su krijesnice:

Park-šuma Tuškanac – niska frekvencija korištenja parka i pješačkog puta uz cestu na početnom dijelu od Dubavkinog puta do Nazorove ulice  tijekom noći

Cmrok – vrlo slab automobilski promet tijekom noći, pješački promet gotovo nepostojeći.

SRC Jarun – javna rasvjeta je postavljena isključivo za automobile, izrazito slab promet tijekom noći, odvojena prometnica i pješački dio; naročito puno ih je uz savski nasip tj. dio gdje je promet najmanji do nepostojeći tijekom noći.

Fallerovo šetalište – uz potok Črnomerec, izrazito slab promet tijekom noći, odvojena prometnica i pješački dio

Ulica Gračanski Ribnjak i Sjevernjak – izrazito slab promet tijekom noći, isključivo automobilski, dojavljen velik broj krijesnica

Južni savski nasip – izrazito slaba aktivnost građana tijekom noći

Jelenovac - izrazito slab promet tijekom noći, dojavljen velik broj krijesnica

 Gašenje javne rasvjete na svim navedenim lokacijama predlažemo u navedenom periodu intenzivne aktivnosti krijesnica i to od 22 sata ili iza ponoći, tj. u vrijeme kad je korištenje navedenih javnih površina minimalno do nepostojeće.

Uz nepobitne koristi po populaciju krijesnica te ostale zaštićene i druge životinjske vrste, smatramo da bi ova akcija mogla biti prepoznata u cijelom svijetu kao najbolji mogući primjer očuvanja okoliša od strane glavnog grada neke države. Istovremeno, opažanje krijesnica u gradskom okruženju može biti velika atrakcija za sve građane i znatni potencijal kao jedinstvena turistička atrakcija ("Zagreb – grad krijesnica"), odnosno prirodni "Festival svjetla".
