Chibusa yo eien mare (Tanaka Kinuyō, 1955)

Tanaka Kinuyō (1910-1977) fue una famosa actriz, favorita de Mizoguchi y muy presente en las filmografías de Ozu y Naruse… y de casi todos los cineastas japoneses que hicieron cine entre 1924 y 1976, pues intervino en 214 películas. Es mucho menos sabido que entre 1953 y 1962 dirigió seis películas. De ellas logré ver ya cinco hacia 1990, y cuatro se cuentan desde entonces entre las que más me emocionan y admiran de cuantas he visto. Quizá la mejor sea Chibusa yo eien mare (1955), que al parecer significa "Pechos eternos"; es para mí la máxima obra cinematográfica dirigida por una mujer, y ninguna hecha por un hombre me parece superior. Pero podría decir lo mismo de las dos primeras que realizó, Koibumi (1953) y Tsuki wa noborinu (1954/5), que algunos días se alternan en pasar a ser mi preferida... y casi de las tres últimas. Es decir, una carrera de directora breve, pero extraordinaria y además variada.

De las múltiples historias que, como quien no quiere la cosa, cuenta Tanaka en esta su tercera película, me impresiona de modo especial una muy marginal. La protagonista, Fumiko, una mujer en trance de separarse de su marido, y poeta, visita - con su niña Aiko - a su amiga Kinuko, casada con el poeta Hori, que está enfermo. Kinuko tiene que salir, Fumiko mira un álbum de fotos (en el que aparecen los tres, más jóvenes, antes de la guerra); Aiko se queda dormida, y de pronto se pone a diluviar. Hori las acompaña hasta la parada del autobús, cubriendo a Fumiko (que lleva a Aiko cargada a la espalda) con un paraguas. Por el camino, Fumiko le dice a quien comprendemos quería que no volverá a visitarle. Un lento travelling les sigue, mientras ella le confiesa que sólo acude a las tertulias poéticas para verle.

Se paran junto a una valla, ante la parada del autobús, y la cámara sigue adelante un poco. Ella, en plano un poco más cercano, le desea felicidad con Kumiko; él advierte que se acerca el autobús. Hori la ayuda a subir y queda solo bajo la lluvia en la carretera, cubierto por el paraguas. (En la escena siguiente sabremos que Hori ha muerto).

Todo muy tranquilo, muy triste.

You had snuck out after lunch to see the animal closer. Margarita was in a medical check, leaving little Manchas alone. You had read on the small white board Miguel's penmanship detailing his feeding hours.

And you happened to arrive just in time. Taking the bottle from. it's saddle, you let Manchitas free, the smell of milk, luring him to you.

"You're such a handsome little boy!" Your hand petted him as the other one fed him.

Miguel put Margarita on her spot in the stable, a small bandage in her left hind leg. His eyes looked at you, feeding and wiping the colt's chin with a rag whenever he choked by drinking too fast.

"There ya go, good job." Miguel just watched you with a soft expression on his face. The urge to see you with a baby in your arms doing the same thing just intensified. You didn't know yet, but you were the one he wanted to get a new family.

Oh how would he love to put a baby in you.

"Well, if you don't mind, can you... wrap it up, and get OVER here?!" Voice growing in volume, frustration is heard maring the future Spider's tone as orders are given. Concerningly, it's not the only sound to be heard communicated across their shared comms link, as soon, a grunt of effort would enter the mix, followed by a concerning groan of metal as something large and heavy was tossed against an unseen obstacle.

It takes a few seconds, but the subsequent rasp of "Peter..." that's added is enough to confirm the state of play -- that Miguel was in need of help now, rather than later.

De impecable, limpia y afiladísima hechura formal, el nuevo libro de Noelia Illán Conesa —Torno subito— es verdaderamente fabuloso. Rudo y a rabiar bello, rebosante y restallante de elegíaca fuerza. Le di una primera lectura anoche y me quedé impresionado. Voy por otra parte a volver a la Odisea (en la que se basa este azul volumen de la poeta) y leerla como Dios manda, porque ando más que flojo y oxidado en antiguos —¡y tan modernos!— griegos. Yo de la epopeya homérica tengo una versión inglesa muy antigua, en prosa, que a Ulises lo llama Odiseo. Me hice con ella cuando tenía unos quince años. Pero creo que Agustín García Calvo pergeñó una traducción española, en verso rítmico, que buscaré.(*) Estaba en esa editorial del aragonés en la que sacaba él mismo todos sus libros: Lucina. Como García Calvo, soy yo también obseso del ritmo, y la Odisea solo puede leerse (al igual que Shakespeare) en rutilantes renglones medidos y puestos en columna.

Este poemario sabe a sal silvestre y arena batida por el viento. Si se me permite una frivolidad (virtud por mí hondamente valorada; ya se sabe que no hay nada más profundo que la epidermis), repescaré para aquellos que tengan edad para recordarlo aquel televisivo anuncio que hablaba, en relación con no sé qué artículo de higiene personal, del «frescor salvaje de los limones del Caribe». En este caso, el Caribe habrá de sustituirse por el Mare Nostrum (aunque pensando en Derek Walcott, y en las épicas odiseas del santalucense, bien podría trasladarse a las Antillas el asunto de este libro). Los limones, fieros de dulce acidez mediterránea, son los del Levante.

Torno subito contiene imágenes gloriosas («… cuando el cielo / es blanco como el semen, / los cuerpos se encuentran»; «Perdiendo toda autonomía, / yo seré tu / perra»; «Grita su nombre / con el hambre del tigre de bengala»). Noelia Illán, plena de poderío, ha devenido maestra del verso en esta su cuarta entrega poética.

La edición, con sus ecos de los años treinta y de aquella famosa colección Sudeste (en la que Miguel Hernández publicó su Perito en lunas), es preciosa. He oído el canto atroz de las sirenas en sus páginas, llamando a Nadie, en esta primera lectura. Y en su título —en español, «Vuelvo enseguida»— he vislumbrado también la máquina vertiginosa (el «torno súbito») del mundo y la poesía: el rodar inexorable de los hierros engranados del universo.

(*) García Calvo hizo una memorable versión rítmica de la Ilíada.

Following their ride, congratulations on the couples’ nuptials continued to pour in as they made their way to The Ranch with August.

Paul was excited to show them his new greenhouse and introduce them to the resident miniature livestock and the visiting large pink horse.

Spencer was stabling Steven’s mare Misty temporarily. His twin had recruited some elder mages to help conjure her up to his specific preferences but had not yet renovated a fitting space for her back at the juice farm in Henford-on-Bagley.

As everyone headed inside to meet their newest relative, they were given a small celebratory sample of The Ranch’s nectar to share.

Nikita and baby Denton were resting upstairs in the nursery. Her blood sugar had stabilized nicely after his birth, and everyone was quite happy to have that particular health issue no longer causing chaos and worry for the family.

They all took turns saying hello to the new addition, who seemed to be in a great mood, just sleepy enough to enjoy cuddles. Peachy didn’t miss how happy and natural Jack looked snuggling the newborn in his arms.

Peachy was sure Jack would make a great dad, and with their limited time together, they wanted to get started soon. He planned to talk more about it with his spouse during their trip to The Falls.

Peachy and Jack had originally planned to head straight to their cabin after the visit but when Tori invited them to join her and Miguel at the Romance Festival, they decided that seemed like a perfectly thematic start to their honeymoon.

August opted to stay behind and spend some more time with his favorite relative’s newly expanded family, so the newlyweds made a party of six when they spotted the ancient mages Peppino and Candor chatting with their cousins around the Sakura tea fountain downtown.

Their elders were both eager to consult the Love Guru about their current relationship concerns, and the group snagged a private karaoke room while they waited their turn for sage advice and (hopefully) encouraging predictions.

While the others enjoyed Candor’s rendition of a popular upbeat rock hit Peachy settled next to Peppino to discuss state of the art baby-making tech.

Peppino was intrigued by the tales of the “Science Baby” advances in Jack’s homeland but told his old student their own nation hadn’t popularized and polished his own research to quite the same level. Anyway, the Mad Scientist mage thought pregnancy was beautiful and highly recommended the experience, and for Sims that weren’t interested in carrying a child themselves there was always surrogacy or adoption.

Peachy still needed to discuss with Jack which path they would pursue, but he appreciated the chance to get more information.

After they tired of karaoke and rose to head back outside Peppino invited Peachy to give him a call if he or Jack decided to follow in his and Steven’s footsteps and make their family dreams a reality through the pathway of “mad” gestational science.

The group ended their evening out with some spirited dancing. As their small group headed their separate ways Peachy gave Tori a big hug and told her how great it had been to see her again. The pair had been close in high school and tonight had reminded Peachy why.

The cousins looked forward to spending more time together in the near future.
