Influencer marketing kavramını hatırlamamız gerekirse; bir markanın herhangi bir ürününü sosyal medya üzerinden belirli bir takipçi sayısına sahip kişiler üzerinden pazarlamaya çalışması diyebiliriz. Peki böyle bir şey zaten mevcutken neden şimdi bir de micro influencer diye bir kavramla karşı karşıyayız? Yapılan araştırmalara göre yüksek takipçili influencerların takipçileri arasında her kitleden kişiler bulunmakta ve belirli bir kitle hedeflemesi yapılamamakta. Ayrıca yine yapılan bir araştırmaya göre bir sosyal medya hesabının takipçi sayısı ne kadar fazlaysa o sayfanın gönderilerinin takipçileri tarafından görülme ve etkileşim alma miktarı takipçi sayısına oranla azalmakta. Durum böyle olunca da böyle bir sayfadan gelecek herhangi bir ürün/marka tavsiyesine gösterilen itibar oranı düşmekte. Aslında insanlar böyle bir tavsiyeyi buna benzer bir sayfadan ziyade insani özelliklerini ve kitlesiyle organik etkileşimini kaybetmemiş bir influencerdan almayı tercih etmekteler.
