Recensione

Avendo letto subito prima il suo prequel, Il Sognatore, l’immersione è stata immediata e spontanea. Ma, a un anno dall’uscita de Il Sognatore, chiunque l’abbia letto “all’uscita” si ritrova subito immerso in questa meravigliosa storia di mondi, cosa che lo rende comunque godibile anche nel qual caso non si abbia letto Il Sognatore. Ad ogni modo, viene data una risposta a tutte le domande irrisolte del libro precedente, seppure il termine del libro ti lasci sognante e curioso di scoprirne di più, su tutti gli altri personaggi di cui ci si può solo immaginare un volto blu. Inoltre, si può dire che il filo conduttore della duologia sia rappresentato dalla speranza, che se nel caso de Il Sognatore prende la sfaccettatura della ricerca, nel caso de La Musa degli Incubi prende la faccia del perdono. La Musa degli Incubi ti fa entrare ancora più a fondo nei mondi in esso narrati, insegnandoti non solo dei vocaboli in una lingua “sconosciuta” ma introducendoti anche alla sua scrittura. Anche qui, i significati e le riflessioni su cui soffermarsi sono molteplici, come il fatto che:

I talenti erano dentro di loro, in tutti quanti, in attesa [...] che soltanto uno fosse così fortunato, così beato, da essere scelto.

perché:

Si tratta di noi e di ciò che scegliamo di essere.

e:

Non è fragilità scegliere la pace invece della guerra.

anche se:

Odia coloro che ti odiano. Era facile. Naturale. Innaturale era non odiarli.

Ma:

E se fosse stato vero, e il mondo fosse stato pieno di uomini e donne nati dentro un serafino metallico galleggiante nel cielo e portati via da lì da un’enorme aquila bianca capace di svanire nell’aria?

Perché, in fondo, siamo tutti carne, ossa e sangue. Siamo tutti uguali, e diversi allo stesso tempo, e dovrebbe essere questo il bello, ciò che ci dovrebbe legare, anziché dividere.

Possiamo essere in conflitto, odiarci, e desiderare la reciproca distruzione, ma nella disperazione siamo tutti smarriti nelle stesse tenebre, respiriamo la stessa aria mentre soffochiamo nel nostro dolore.

Il Sognatore e La Musa degli Incubi sono soprattutto una duologia d’amore, dove l’amore è rappresentato in tutte le sue forme: tra sorelle e fratelli, tra amici, tra fidanzati, sposi e amanti. E la delicatezza con cui l’ampio tema è trattato è magico proprio come lo è l’amore stesso.

You know what I love about Paige? How young and dumb she is. I mean that with all the love in my heart but she is so young and dumb sometimes. She has been through hell and back and is doing her best to lead a full on rebellion despite being so, so young. Every time she messes up she gets right back up and keeps going. She puts her faith and trust into the wrong people and is punished for it. The fate of all Voyants living under Scion rests on her, or that’s how she feels and because she’s young and dumb she has a hard time accepting help from others. She believes that it is her duty to always put herself on the front lines and do the most dangerous things in the place of others because it wouldn’t be fair of her to ask anyone else to do it when she is perfectly capable. That’s just a symptom of her young and dumb syndrome. And she’s always been this way but now she’s in charge of a whole country of Voyants. And now she has Arcturus to help her.

Meanwhile, Arcturus is her opposite, he’s old and wise. He parallels her and complements her in so many ways. Where Paige is rash and quick to be stupid, Arcturus is careful and thoughtful and tells her when to slow down. But he doesn’t want to control her or force her so he gives her the space to be an idiot and is there to catch her when she falls. And through her mistakes Paige is teaching him the meaning of humanity. They work to bring out the best in each other.
