the harbingers have been through fire. you've got the scars to show for it. some people say harbingers are jaded- scary, even, to people who don't understand that the harbinger has seen the edge of the world and survived it. but being the harbinger means you're cursed to watch younger, brighter eyes fall for the same traps you did. trying to help isn't enough for you; you know what they're getting themselves into, and you want to protect them the way no one ever protected you.

     so why won't they just LISTEN? 

 it's frustrating. it's terrifying. no one should have to live through what you did, and i hope you know that you can't protect everyone but it's damn noble of you to try. it's not your job to save the world but i hope you know you've already made a difference to everyone who has taken your words to heart.

it's very rare to catch Musashi in a state of speechlessness. more often than not, she knows how to keep the conversation going effortlessly, words coming as easy as breathing. perhaps she talks too much but she's never been fond of long stretches of silence and what is the use of spending time with someone if you don't fill it with talk? how else do you get to know someone better? of course, she never minds those comfortable silences. they differ from the cold ones and she knows that it is only human to want to sit with someone without feeling the need to talk. and if she is with someone she cares for, Musashi doesn't mind lowering her rather eccentric energy to accomadate those silences. it can be nice, feeling such a peace and calmness.

but even if that is what this was, there was no way she could ever be prepared for hearing that.

Diluc doesn't say things idly. whenever he speaks, he's honest. it is meant. he's not the type to dance around something. that's just the sort of person he is. quite the opposite of Musashi. she has no problems lying or acting a certain way for another's benefit despite what she feels. hardly anything can get her to drop that bubbly optimism and very few saw what resided beneath it. but despite the nigh contradictory differences in the two, they were friends. (maybe she's just good at befriending the hardasses. a useful trait, she supposes.) and this...is a completely normal thing for one friend to say to another. completely normal. that is what she tells herself in those few seconds of silence. but, even so, it still causes her heart to, for some reason, stutter for just a split second.

outwardly, that almost permanent smile widens and a soft laugh falls from the Saber. in Musashi-style teasing, she bumps her shoulder against Diluc's arm (careful to keep her strength diminished. even limited, she still could easily send him flying. and that would be a bad idea.) " Come on now, it's rude to lie to a lady you know! " he meant it, she knows he did, but she treats it otherwise. " Poetry is wasted on someone like me. That's for those folks who don't spend their time getting into trouble and never sticking in one place. Besides, what would anyone even say about me in that sort of way? Can't say I've ever heard anyone wax poetically about me kicking their ass in a fight. "

she doesn't mean the words in a self-depricating manner, far from it. it is but an observation, one she felt confident in making. Musashi isn't a woman fit for masterful poetry. mere words fit her best. she is-- no, was-- but a travelling swordswoman just living it day by day until she eventually reached her ending. that is what she thinks she deserves. nothing more, nothing less. and perhaps it is rude of her to brush off what her companion says, but she has to. she has to because if she lets it sit in her mind, then she'll want his reasonings for it. she'll get curious, but it is a curiosity that she'll never satiate. sometimes....people just say what they think with no rhyme or reason. there's no cause for her to look at it any deeper than that.

but one cannot deny the way her smile softens for a moment. the way her gaze drops to the ground for a fleeting second, as if needing a pause from looking at him. and, if one looked close enough, they would find the faintest of pink dusting her cheeks. but it is all brief, for when her head raises again, it is gone. she laughs once more, a gentle twinkle in her eyes, her voice softening for a split second. " I think you're more deserving of masterful poetry. " and then, it is back to that lighthearted tone. "You dress the part, anyways. I bet you have some secret admirer out there writing a stanza as we speak! "

character in general: ok i have never seen toh so what i know about hunter is strictly from zeno's blog but honestly hunter is the type of character that i already would fight god to make sure he stays happy and i hope whatever happens in s3 HE GETS TO BE HAPPY

how they play them: i may not know the show however there's never any doubt that xeno plays them true to character while also giving them amazing development and growth plus the way they get their characters is always so spot on
