I prefer to think that there was no denial or repression going on, and Kitty and Xuan simply did not realize that they were dating.
When Xuan invited Kate along for a family museum trip, that was a date. Kate had to have known she was going on a date.
When Kitty moved in to Xuan's apartment, and the twins started calling her their "aunt," Xuan had to have realized that Kitty was her girlfriend.
But did Xuan know that Kitty knew? Did Kate know that Karma knew? No. 🤷‍♀️

ill say in advance that I may be confusing you with another blogger as I ask this and I appologise for any confusion if I am, but iirc you were talking something about people getting into comics some time ago. I just wanted to ask where do you read issues of comics? Especially older back issues, like is there an official long archive or is there a western equivalent of manga dex etc?
might have been someone else, but I can help a bit!
both marvel and DC offer subscription services that let you read a large number of their backlog, and will add more recent comics after a period of several months. Maybe a bit longer, I don't remember the exact timeline. The price wasn't too bad last I checked especially if you just wanted to pay for a month or two to read all the stuff you wanted to read, but its undoubtedly gone up.
There's a website called 'readcomiconline' that frequently has to change domains for obvious reasons.
I do suggest, where you can, paying for new comics because most pencilers, inkers, colorists and even writers are paid peanuts and need all the support they can get, but so many older ones are hard to find. I find absolutely nothing morally wrong with finding an alternate means to read 10+ year old comics, and especially even older ones that you simply can't find in print without paying stupid levels of money. The creative teams sure as shit won't see any of that, so i'ts more of a 'how badly do you want a physical copy of an issue' thing, which I have given into though not in a good 10 years or so since I last bought a comic on ebay or perused the back issue section of a comic shop. (this is often a great place to find some gems and not all that expensive either)
There may still exist torrents with massive back catalogs as well.
Now I want to visit a comic shop again. Or at least go through our longboxes. Haven't really collected comics since 2015 I think.

DaBoii & The Mekanix - Friendly Reminder (feat. J-Stalin).

The Mekanix - Movin' (feat. J-Stalin, Lijah, 4 rAx & Junneonnabeat)
Tegelijkertijd hebben ze ook een eigen solo album. Helaas lijkt daar hetzelfde voor op te gaan. Ondanks in potentie toffe featurings zoals Clyde Carson, Shoddy Boi (die wel heel degelijk spit: they tell me do some shit for the clubs, but they probably gonna sell drugs to this shit), Lil Blood, Iamsu en Lil bean etc. zijn het vooral de beats die de show stelen.

Mac Dre Day 2022: A Celebration of Andre Hicks
Mac Dre Day 2022: A Celebration of Andre Hicks
For all my brothers and sisters in the Bay Area we have a amazing event taking place today in the heart of The Bay. First we gotta say happy birthday to “The Furl” who would be out there partying with ya’ll today but we have to turn up for him in his memory. Mac Wanda and Golden Voice present Mac Dre Day with a bunch of DJs and friends of The Mac like Dubee and Andre Nickatina preforming hits to…

Hello, I don't know if you saw, but yesterday on YouTube they released a video on the next series of X-Men comics (From The Ashes) that's coming out this summer. It looks like they're just going back to the classic storyline of the X-Men fighting to protect a world that hates and fears them. What I liked about Krakoa was that instead of mutants just struggling to survive, it gave them a place of their own where they could thrive and reach their full potential. However, it seems like no matter what they do, the X-Men always get kicked back to square one.
Yeah, I saw that. I think it's a bit more complicated than "going back to the classic storyline of the X-Men fighting to protect a world that hates and fears them." (To a significant extent, that's just describing the basic premise for the X-Men for most of their publication history.)
youtube
Rather, I would describe From the Ashes as evocative of the post-Outback, pre-Blue Team/Gold Team period at the tail end of the Claremont run, but with an aesthetic that's inspired by both the 90s comics (which makes sense, with X-Men '97 only days away) and the Bendis era.
For example, I would describe a scenario in which there is no Xavier School and there are multiple teams spread out from Alaska to Chicago to New Orleans to New York all pursuing different strategies for fighting for mutantkind as "back to basics."
Scott's team based out of Alaska is a more classic mutant rescue team, but it's being led by a visibly older Magneto in an Xavier-like chair, so there's definitely aspects of the "Revolutionary" Cyclops era there too. Kate and Emma's more youth-outreach team is somewhat evocative of the New Mutants or Generation X or Academy X, but the Chicago setting is more reminiscent of Claremont's somewhat controversial Mekanix book. And god only knows what NYX or X-Force or X-Factor are going to be about.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That being said, I am immensely excited about the new creative team. Marjorie Liu aside, women are almost never given the chance to write flagship X-books and here we have both the superb Gail Simone and the equally talented Eve Ewing (who is the first black woman to write a flagship X-book). And Jed MacKay has more than proven in his Black Cat and Moon Knight and Doctor Strange books that he's got an incredible knack for taking classic characters in compelling new directions.
I know you might be concerned about the marketing pitch, but this is not a team that's going to churn out meaningless nostalgia-bait fluff rather than tell real stories.

It's very funny to me how the next era for Kate "Kitty" Pryde is her trying to blend in among humans, work a regular job, and live a low-key life... while dressing like this.
Tumblr media
Pryde wants to pass as a non-mutant in an era of intense anti-mutant bigotry. Pass as straight though? She's not even trying. She literally has blue hair and pronouns lmao.
[Note: The actual premise of the book is that she immediately finds mutants in need and can't resist the chance to help them. It's a very Mekanix-y story - I think it fits Kate Pryde very well. Also it's an Eve Ewing X-Men book and I'm reading that based on respect for the author alone.]

Excited for Eve L Ewing on X-Men. I really enjoyed her work on Champions, despite the unfortunate circumstances surrounding it, and I've wanted to read more of her writing. (But I'm so far behind on Black Panther--I haven't even finished the Coates run--that it's going to be a huge project to catch up).
And the actual concept sounds an awful lot like a Mekanix sequel, with Shadowcat returning to Chicago once again, living anonymously and away from the X-Men as a barista, until something arises that requires her attention. (It goes unremarked in the previews, but I assume she's also living under a fake identity, given that the last time we saw her she was walking door-to-door executing fascists, until the world ran out of fascists, and that's obviously the kind of thing that forever interferes with plans for a quiet and uninteresting life.)
Not completely sure how I feel about Emma as the co-star of what again, feels a lot like Mekanix volume 2, but I do like how that relationship is carrying over--and I think there's something to be said for the two ex-teachers who arguably cared the most about actually teaching (albeit definitely not the two who cared the most about the actual students), finding themselves in that role again now that they've both left the Xavier/Jean Grey school behind.
I've seen some criticism of the concept as representing a regression for Kitty, but I see it more as the continuation of her longstanding pattern. For decades now she's been the one who just goes really hard for a short period of time, during particularly rough times for the X-Men, before burning out completely. And then she goes away--usually to Chicago--to reset, until something comes up, that tells her she can bare it all again. That was what happened when Genosha was destroyed, and she crashed (leading into the original Mekanix); and after AvX and it's various followups, when she had to quit the JGS and take on a reduced role, after the planet almost exploded too many times; and after her Guardians of the Galaxy run when she was living alone back in Chicago until Ororo asked her to start teaching again; and arguably at the start of Dawn of X when she was drifting alone until she needed to form the Marauders. (Ultimate Comics also pulled that twice, both times that she quit the team, though she seems to have been from Queens and not Chicago in that universe).
I think it's a good hook for using her character. It strikes me as a natural extension of her status as one of the most grounded (in the real world) X-Men, that she spends most of her time away from them doing other things. And having the character take long breaks like this addresses the fact that she's meant to struggle with depression and PTSD, so it's a pattern that I think one would expect to develop. And there's also Kitty's role within the X-Men as a franchise to consider, where she's always been the one who "can pass" if she wanted to, and faces exclusion/scapegoating from her community because of it; and where it's always shown to not really be true, because of the life she leads, and because she's not constitutionally capable of not standing up when it matters.
I am curious about why she's a barista now instead of a bartender, unless it's just because she's living anonymously so she can't go back to the same job. The obvious answer could just be because she needs to interact with kids who are significantly younger than her, and a cafe is a more workable venue than a bar. (Hopefully it's not because of blowback to the "Marauders made Kitty an alcoholic" thing that consumed The Discourse for the last four years)
