i finally got the chance to see the touring production of beetlejuice. it was incredible. i didn’t expect to laugh as much as i did (i knew so many cues/punchlines even after all this time lol) but the actors had great comedic timing. there was a great joke about “only burning books that make kids gay” during the puppet show that had me screaming yall.

their voices were amazing as well! virtually every actor has huge shoes to fill from the obc and they all killed it. special shoutout to Megan McGinnis. barbara is my fav character in the show by far and she was amazing.

the changes from the original broadway production were also so fun to see! i was always so curious how they would do the maitland’s death. my face when there was no manchurian tung oil: 🤨😮

also a special shoutout to the fact that most people dressed up in theme (usually black + white + stripes + green). i was the only one in a barbara dress as far as i could tell tho 😌

anyways. thats my long post about finally getting to see this amazing musical. TLDR i loved it go see it if its coming anywhere near you (i had to travel a little but it was very worth it)

Goodreads Choice Awards but the nominees are just the books I've personally shelved

I have a lot of thoughts about the options as they exist (mostly not that bad, except when it comes to the total elimination of children's literature, about which I am furious), but per usual I can't really articulate them in a coherent way SO I sorted my shelves by publication date, ignored the GCA requirement of a minimum 3.5 average rating, and am doing this instead.

Occupation: Professional Duelist, Domino High Student (after moving to Domino), Vice President of Industrial Illusions. Ideal V.A,: Megan Hilty.

Backstory:

Born to an Olympic Equestrian and an actress.

Her older sister was diagnosed with her illness when Kat was about 3.

Grew up trying to keep her sisters spirits high and the two having this beautiful and inseparable bond with each other, especially in the face of their parents marriage troubles they did their best to keep from the girls, and their mothers narcissitic and controlling tendencies.

Grew up with her cousins whenever they got to visit and was especially close to her cousin, Sonia, they were best friends.

Played a very early, early prototype to Duel Monsters, before it was ever Duel Monsters, in the hospital rooms her sister frequented.

Lost a lot of her family within a year of each other; the Harmonia sinking, then Mason passing away in a car accident, then Cecelia and then Evangeline. Would be adopted by her godparents, who the will dictated were to take her in the event anything happened to her parents; the agreement was decided as the best move by both them, Maximillion and Wes.

Moved to San Francisco with her godparents, Maddox, her nieces and Max when Industrial Illusions properly started up.

Got to beta test Duel Monsters for her big brother and competed and won in the very first tournament.

Continued the tournament circuit, making time for her family as much as she could.

Met Kaiba at a tournament and they quickly became dedicated rivals and her goal has been to beat him some day, as he was the only person she had never beaten before.

Is with Max when he gets the news that Kaiba has been defeated and she's more upset that somebody beat him before she did than anything else; though, there is definitely quite a bit of surprise when she goes to try and figure out who this Yugi kid is and finds he himself has an Item like the one Max has as a fake eye.

Goes to Duelist Kingdom to watch, since she was barred from competing, and begins to uncover more than she could have ever imagined.

👶 The first song you remember enjoying

I can't name a specific song, but I can name two whole albums. The movie soundtracks to Annie and Lady and the Tramp. I had them on records when I was around 9 or 10 -- yes, actual vinyl records. I played them repeatedly and sang along at the top of my lungs. I still have those records, though I haven't owned a record player in decades.

I haven't written a term paper in probably 20 years, and believe me, I have no desire to do so. Also, in spite of my lifelong love of music, I feel like I'm not good at talking about it in an academic way, so I'm going to go with an album that I simply relate to and have strong feelings about. I'm gonna say the OBCR of Into the Woods. A show that not only has amazing music, but also an interesting plot, complex characters, and thought-provoking themes. It's the kind of show that I could write a paper on at age 20, then re-visit once a decade for the rest of my life, and always find a new interpretation of it.
