So back in 2021 The Asylum released Ape vs. Monster, their “response” to Godzilla vs. Kong. Say what you will about that movie, but I was AMAZED by the design of the titular monster, Gila, and was about to praise the hell out of them for it:

...but then it turned out they just bought the model from TurboSquid and so can you too (link in the source), it’s called “Dino Beast”:

So now they released a sequel to their movie, Ape vs. Mecha Ape, and the design of the titular Mecha Ape is also amazing. Suspiciously so.

I couldn’t find the model on TurboSquid, but I thought it looked familiar.

Searching for figures online where I live it’s very common to come across bootlegs, now more than ever with 3D printing technology, some people may get their hands on the file of a model someone else did and either sell the 3d printed figure or the file itself, most likely without the original artist’s knowledge. Add to that the popularity of Godzilla vs. Kong, wich featured a Mechagodzilla, and you come across stuff like this:

Meet “Mecha King Kong”, as online sellers call it. I assume they won’t call it “Mechanikong” because if you know who that is you probably will know this isn’t an official thing. I can’t find who the original artist is.

Now the bodies look completely different, but the head...

There are some differences, like the eyeballs, the forehead, the jaw, and the lenght of the “airvents”. But many of the details are so similar I simply can’t believe it’s just a coincidence:

Now, if the guys at The Asylum are one thing, it’s legaly savvy. There is a reason they’ve succesfully been in the mockbuster business for DECADES. I’m sure they didn’t steal an asset like these neobootleggers probably did, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the “Mecha Ape” and “Mecha King Kong” 3D models have a common origin somewhere down the line.

If there is something I take from all this unprompted cashing-in on robot gorillas, is that if the Godzilla vs. Kong sequel were to feature a robot Kong (Mechanikong or otherwise), audiences and bootlegers would welcome it with open arms.

(Also is this “Ape” fella going to be their new “Mega Shark”?)

I would love to see Gorosaurus and mechanikong in the Skull island tv show. It don't have high hopes though because of all the hoops they would have to go through to make toho happy.

Gorosaurus would be nice to see because I don't think he'll ever show up in the monsterverse movies.

Mechanikong more then likely is being saved for the films.

Building on my ape-villain team up idea

Been working on my fan continuity idea

I am imagining my own equivalent to Godzilla X Kong being less epic team up, and Godzilla while trying to relax ends up stumbling onto vast conspiracy,

Godzilla is trying to relax in campground thats become a tourist attraction due to him visiting when Baragon shows up trying to eat people. (Which he has not done in years thanks to associating humans with painful anti-kaiju weaponry) After being punished by Godzilla for waking him from his nap, Baragon uses the pidgin favor-trading language the kaiju "community" have developed to explain they have a problem that needs solving*.

So Godzilla, thinking this will be quick, follows Baragon to an entrance to Earth Hollows.

It turns Obsidius (from Godzilla Unleashed) has invaded Baragon's territory after being displaced by Mechanikongs and Simeon military mining their territory.

After a fight, Godzilla, Bargaon, and Obsidius end up stumbling into the rest of the plot.

And throughout the entire time, poor Baragon keeps trying to eat and keeps getting interrupted.

Still working on Kong side of the plotline

But while most of Kong species are monstrous huge apes, Daikaiju sized ones to extent of Monsterverse would be rare.

Thinking the King Kong from Mondo Island the Rankin Bass Tv Show, now retired as an adventuring monster hero, is kidnapped by his old enemies part of the villain alliance to study his above-normal superstrength of his size. And one or two daikaiju Sized Kongs ( based on King Kong vs Godzilla and Monsterverse) also kidnapped and being tested in gladiator games at the same time to see if worthy of being forcibly inducted into the Kong army.

*I wanted to explore the Showa and Monsterverse idea of a monster language as more a bunch of freaks of nature and functionally extinct animals having to learn to live together

@monsterislandbuddies​ asked the twitter user about their origin and they confirmed it’s from the 1993 trivia show. 

For those that don’t know, it was a sort of mini “talk show” meant to promote the movie Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla around the time of release, wich had a bunch of little animations and pictures like these in between segments. There is only one episode online that I know of, and in it none other than Maguma the walrus makes an appearence!

Also Mechanikong I guess...

There have been a bunch of fan interpretations of what the Toho Kong would look like in this style. It’s mind-blowing to actually have an answer.
