Lies, that’s when you hide the truth/
It’s when you talk more jazz than proof/
And when you lie and address something you don’t know/
It’s so wack that it’s bound to show/
When you lie about me or the band we get angry/
Whip out our pen, start writing again/
And the things we write are always true/
Sucker, get a grip, now we talking ‘bout you/
Seems to me that you have a problem/
So we can see what we can do to solve them/
Think rap is a fad? You must be mad/
Cause we’re so bad we get respect you never had/
Tell the truth, James Brown was old/
'Til Eric and Ra came out with “I Got Soul”/
Rap brings back old R&B/
And if we would not, people could’ve forgot/
We wanna make this perfectly clear/
We’re talented and strong and have no fear/
Of those who choose to judge but lack pizazz/
Talkin’ all that jazz.

Lord Tariq & Peter Gunz - Deja Vu (Uptown Baby)
Charli Baltimore - Money
Destiny's Child - No, No, No (Wyclef Jean Remix)

DJD DMD f. Pimp C - The Trill Connection
Mack 10 f. Eazy-E and MC Eiht - Get Yo Ride On
Beverley Knight f. Redman - Made It Back
Def Squad - Def Squad Delite
The first two tracks here span two modes of rap in ‘98, lush and scrappy, but at the same time these are fluid categories—Public Enemy are hardly a group I’d call “lush” (busy, sure), and “Back That Azz Up” makes me feel like a millionaire. The sensibilities duke it out within and between tracks over the course of the mix: very expensive-sounding samples used in songs that sound like novelties or afterthoughts, very cheap-sounding songs about making oodles of money, some of which did.
It’s hard for me to talk about “1998 in rap” though because all of these songs blur together across two or three years. Jay-Z’s ‘98 and ‘99 albums both came out at the end of the year so I was hearing singles from them all jumbled together. “Back That Azz Up'' wasn't released as a single until the summer of ‘99. I don’t remember hearing DMX before 2000. Most of these songs I associate with the weird combination stereo and intercom system they built into our new house when it was built in the ‘80s—we’d blast it from the kitchen and you could hear the music all the way through the house. I mostly remember shouting along to the santized versions of choruses in the few hours after school and before my parents got home from work: “can I get a what what,” “jigga what, jigga who,” “I’m not a player I just crush a lot,” “back that thang up.”
It wasn’t until 2000 that hip-hop felt like it was the complete center of my music universe for a year or two, with alt-rock taking a backseat for a few years until I “discovered” indie music in late high school. (I listened to a LOT of Eminem.) So 1997-1999 feels like a highlight reel of familiar songs I know, but don’t know how or when I came to know them. But they’re in there.

American Dad! (February 2016)
MC Skat Kat is an animated cat who appeared with Paula Abdul in the video for her song "Opposites Attract" in 1989.
When Klaus refuses to believe Stan's assertion that opposites attract, he brings in MC Skat Kat to sing with him in "Kiss Kiss, Cam Cam". Klaus cuts the song short, and Stan is forced to admit that opposites don't attract, but wonders if "samesies" do as Kat is rushed out the door by Stan while trying to get information regarding a janitorial job. As they start to move on, Klaus notes that he is hiding in the bushes where Stan had had him on standby.
MC Skat Kat is voiced by Derrick "Delite" Stevens.

Blog Post 8: Stop the Violence Movement
Through the art of hip hop, and for generations, different artist groups and individuals have been trying to figure out who they are and what they represent to the listeners, specifically their own people. As far as the issues facing black communities for years on end, it is far much bigger than hip hop, but because of outside influences and real world problems, hip hop’s movement in purity was rooted from the empowerment of black culture, unity, and the reconstruction of their lifestyle. Hip hop, like mentioned, was meant to empower the youth through moral concepts based off of issues in the community, but nowadays most rappers tend to advocate on behalf of drugs, misogynistic views of women, and extremes luxuries. In the reading, “Black Empires, White Desires”, it supports this modern aspect of hip hop, by mentioning, “...black middle-class distance themselves from hip hop because of its misogyny an homophobia” (Baldwin 229). In my opinion, this is slowly inciting a setback in hip hop’s facet of black cultural empowerment, simply by veering away from its roots of peace, unity, and having fun in general.
In the Netflix Original documentary, Hip-Hop Evolution, the episode titled, “Do the Knowledge”, it dives into a particular issue of putting an end to black on black crime and promoting unity from several MC’s, but two in particular stood out to me. In the documentary, MC Delite and KRS-ONE are two of many artists and artist groups featured on a charity single, called “Self Destruction”, who rap about the power of hip hop unity of black culture. In fact, the proceeds of the song were donated to the National Urban League, a New York-based civil rights organization that fights racial discrimination. Specifically, the artists’ lyrics are aimed at stopping violence in the black communities amongst other blacks, because it is affecting the race as a whole, whether they realize it or not.
Tumblr media
To support this, I have included the following lyrics by KRS-ONE, from the song “Self Destruction”, which really gives insight and meaning to their campaign in upholding these views.
                                                        [KRS-One]
                                   Well, today's topic, self destruction
It really ain't the rap audience that's bugging
It's one or two suckers, ignorant brothers
Trying to rob and steal from one another
You get caught in the mid
So to crush the stereotype here's what we did
                                            We got ourselves together
So that you could unite and fight for what's right
Not negative 'cause the way we live is positive
                                            We don't kill our relatives

Boogie Down Productions' By All Means Necessary Album Anniversary
BDP was influential in provoking political and social consciousness in hip-hop, for example in Stop The Violence off 1988's By All Means Necessary.
BDP's music became significantly more politically astute after Scott La Rock's death. KRS-One published four more albums under the title Boogie Down Productions, and each was increasingly innovative and expanded from the thuggish imagery of Criminal Minded, exploring themes like black-on-black crime and black radicalism, using a riff on the words of Malcolm X, “by any means necessary”, which became the title of the second BDP album, and remains one of the most political hip-hop albums to date. It was in this album that KRS defined himself as the “teacha” or “teacher”, symbolizing his emphasis on educating his audience members and fans about relevant social issues surrounding the African-American experience.
During his time in association with Boogie Down Productions, KRS-One joined other rappers to create the Stop the Violence Movement, which addressed many of the issues brought up in BDP's music and is the most conscious effort displayed by KRS-One and BDP of political activism and engagement. The movement created the single “Self-Destruction” in 1989 through the collaboration of BDP (KRS-One, D-Nice & Ms. Melodie), Stetsasonic (Delite, Daddy-O, Wise, and Frukwan), Kool Moe Dee, MC Lyte, Doug E. Fresh, Just-Ice, Heavy D, Biz Markie, and Public Enemy (Chuck D & Flavor Flav), with the aim of spreading awareness about violence in African-American and hip-hop communities. All proceeds from this effort went to the National Urban League. Read more about BDP here.

Husbandos (In a random order)
1.
Tumblr media
Ryou Bakura from Yu-Gi-Oh
This cutie I've had a crush on for the longest time. Like he was my first anime crush ever and I still love him to this day. I mean he is so cute and innocent!! His hair looks so soft and fluffy! And yes I mean normal Bakura not Yami Bakura.
2.
Tumblr media
Ron DeLite from Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney: Trials and Tribulations
Speaking of cuties look at this one! From his super soft voice to his timid actions I was in love with him at first glance. And I love him even more considering the fact the he is in fact a thief! But he is still extremely shy and quiet.
3.
Tumblr media
Kiibo from New Danganronpa Version 3
Just look at him, LOOK AT HIM! He is such a pure, innocent cinnamon roll and I will protect him at all costs. Plus he can be so oblivious and gaaah. SO adorable! I just wanna hug him and love him and never let him go
4.
Tumblr media
Goro Aketchi from Persona 5
Yes I admit I love this pancake boy. I love him so much. He might be trash but he is my trash okay! It's funny my first playthrough I didn't care much for him but my second one I was in love. I just want to see him happy okay?
5.
Tumblr media
Jakob from Fire Emblem Fates
I S-ranked this boy so fast as the female mc it wasn't even funny. I admit that I may have a small thing for butlers but damn was his dedication strong! I swear this boy would/should have married you no matter your character's gender. Plus seeing him as a father is so cute
Waifu's (Only number one matters the rest are in random order)
1.
Tumblr media
Naoto Shirogane from Persona 4
My dudes you don't understand how much I love her.... I've spent 3 anime conventions searching for a figurine of her and once I found one I bought it immediately. She's just so cute and smart and her blushes are so so so good. Gah I love her so much. I bought P4D just to watch her dance in all seriousness
2.
Tumblr media
Chrome Dokuro from Katekyo Hitman Reborn!
LOOK AT THIS CUTIE PATOOTIE! I will protect this girl with my life! She deserves so much better and I want to hug her and smother her with my love. I really wish the series did so much more with her, I want to see her become a badass!
3.
Tumblr media
Franziska von Karma from Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney: Justice for All
What is with it with blue hair that I am so attracted too? Anyways I love how sassy and bossy she can be. Plus she is sooo damn intelligent. But what I love the most is when she lets down her mask and shows her true self, so cute.
4.
Tumblr media
Celty Sturluson from Durarara
She may not have a head and may be a Dullahan but damn did she steal my heart. I love her confident and optimistic personality. I also love how sassy she can be sometimes~ This love grew slowly over time as I watched the series and I still love her to this day
5.
Tumblr media
Charlotte from Fire Emblem Fates
Let me tell you guys I never expected to love this woman as much as I do. When I first got her in the game I was like eh but oh how wrong I was. She is a complete and utter monster who destroys anyone in her path (and that is totally hot). I don't know how it happened but it did.
