“So right by Mirkwood right?” Mike Wheeler’s voice peeped after listening to Y/N’s remark of details about what she heard at the Hawkins Police Department a few hours ago. It was around 7 pm, right around to where the girl was getting ready prone to the search party being held with a few of the residents of the town.
Y/N hummed a positive response to clearing out his doubts just in case he was confused by any means, this wasn’t going to help Mike, it was going to help Will get a faster chance to be retrieved to his home again.
Although Hopper disapproved the request of letting young people in the search, Y/N and Victor were eventually allowed to come along, “Yeah, but remember you have to be somewhat far from the real search group okay? We don’t want you to get caught.”
”Mike! What are you doing?” Nancy’s faint voice was caught on the other line of the phone, leading Mike to leave the phone out, Y/N overhearing them argue over the dumbest things.
Prior to the noises of Mike pushing Nancy out of the basement she guessed, the boy came back on the line, sighing loudly, “Sorry about that, Nancy gets so annoying, I still don’t know why you still hang out with her.”
”She could be a priss sometimes,” She responds, breathily giggling, clenching the ceramic telephone tighter, “But she’s still my friend if you could say.”
Continuing with their conversation based on the plan, it was perfectly assembled, safe with a high possibility of finding Will, even if it had been a day. Will couldn’t have gone far anyways. Y/N was about to speak, but was suddenly caught off guard as soon as she heard her dad in the hallway, getting prepared for the search.
”Oh shit! I have to go now,” Y/N hushed in a subtle tone, trying her best to keep away Hopper from listening to their discussion, “Remember to be home by 9 at least with flashlights. Stay safe Mike.”
The line went awfully silent, placing back the phone to its regular position on the handset, while it being attached to the wall. Rapidly, spinning to look at her father, trying to act as normal as possible, his brows furrowed at her.
”What were you doing?”
Shrugging it off calmly, Y/N breathily giggles while she put her hands on her hips saying, “I was just checking in with Victor, that’s all.”
Hopper’s eyes widened at her point, clicking his tongue as he started grabbing on his sweater for the frosty night ahead, “Funny, but I just called his mom to let him know that he was coming.”
”Right..” Y/N casually crossed her arms, cursing under her breath before she showed any subtle reaction to what she was up to. Play it cool.
In the silence of her looking around the messy home by the front door, Hopper sharply whistles while slinging the car keys in the air to catch them, making Y/N follow right behind me, pretending as if the few minutes didn’t occur. Feeling the breeze of the autumn air, both the relatives made their way to the vehicle, on their way to the small yet important search for this boy, Will Byers.
As the road got narrower and narrower, the car drove deeper into the dark woods, where Y/N could see the slender trees and branches surrounding them. The starry sky lit up the place with a soft tone of dim blues and grays painted across it on the chilly night. Watching out the window, Y/N squinted her eyes to see a figure from afar waving towards the vehicle, a familiar figure to be Victor. Hopper drove nearer, the headlights being able to guide him to the stop where a small crowd of people were surrounding along with the patrols.
Hopper cleared his throat, while he pushed the breaks down and turned to his daughter, “Hey kid, remember don’t be-“
Without hesitation, Y/N swung the car door open to step out of it, hustled her way to her so called “acquaintance”, Victor. It was more like a friend but she didn’t want to be that close with the boy. Victor wearily smiling at her.
“You seem tired,” Y/N creeps up next to him, watching the small groups of people around the mounds of dead leaves and twigs gathered for the search.
Victor’s voice brings the girl’s attention back to him, he clears his throat, “I mean dealing with Flo is already a lot for me to handle, so I suppose I am.” The two silently chuckled, the frost getting to their noses, “I heard there’s gonna be a chance of rain.”
”Really?”
“Yes really! Haven’t you seen the forecast? I’m even wearing a jacket!” Victor squinted his eyes, his eyewear raising up on the bridge of his nose and the girl shrugged aimlessly.
Y/N scoffed, shoving him slightly, “I think there’s way more important things we need to focus on instead of the weather.”
From afar, Hopper and the policemen indicated all the volunteers to gather around on the sidewalk, near the entrance of the forest. The flashing blue and red lights were turned off from the cars, everyone else preparing for the upcoming search.
”Okay guys!” The chief shouted to direct everyone, “We need to stay in the 5 mile radius from where Will was last scene! Everyone please be careful and remember to blow the whistle if you find anything at all!”
Heads were nodded, agreeing to the directions, Officers Powell and Callahan guided two separate groups from different directions, Y/N having to come along with the third group including her dad. Although the girl was 16, her father wanted to take the best care for her, after Sarah. He wanted to keep her as close as possible, but he knew she was getting older. It was just for today, he can protect her for today, now being aware of a kid disappearing in their town. Maybe one of them was next.
“I guess that’s your call genius,” Y/N told Victor as she pointed towards Powell’s group who were walking to the right side of the woods, the people disappearing one by one into the darkness.
Not budging at all, Victor stood his ground saying, “I think I’ll stick with you for now, there’s just soccer moms hoarding the group for Powell, he has a fan club.”
“You’re not wrong Vic,” She sniggered quietly but failed miserably, letting out a subtle loud laugh, both of the teenagers walking behind their group, down a steep hill leading to the inner nature.
Rushing down first to the bottom, the tall brunette reached his hand out for Y/N who was still at the top, to help her come down to his level, “M’lady?”
”Why thank you, what a gentleman!” Y/N sarcastically gasps, gripping onto his hand to steady herself below, after they jogged closer to the group, flicking their flashlights on to carry on.
Everyone glanced above the branches, the moon shining as the crickets chirped. The crisp wind running across their faces, making the trees shuffle loudly. As flashlights led them with its brightness, they all searched and searched, for any trace of the boy around the area.
Half an hour later, the air became cooler than usual, almost bringing a frostbite to their bare hands. The sound of branches and dead leaves crunching over the few people above them. In the silence, Y/N stayed near Victor and her father, hearing shouts for Will. The realization hit the girl, they were looking for lost Will, Will hasn’t appeared, he was probably in some sort of danger. She fastened her grip on the flashlight, looking around more closely, along with the rest.
”He’s a good student,” Someone decides to break the silence of the leaves and twigs crunching under their feet, Victor and Y/N turned their attention to him as they strolled in the woods.
Hopper cocks an eyebrow up and looks towards the teacher’s direction after the statement, “What?”
”Will. He’s a good student. Great one actually,” He elaborates, smiling sheepishly to lend his hand in front of the chief to introduce himself, “I don’t think we’ve met, Scott Clarke. Teacher, Hawkins Middle. Earth and biology.”
“Don’t you remember he was my teacher back in the day?”
Victor nods agreeing with Y/N’s statement from behind, Hopper reluctantly trying to remember his daughter’s middle school teacher, still not recalling since in those past years where fighting for Y/N’s custody between the parents, “I always had a distaste for science.”
”Well maybe you had a bad teacher,” Mr. Clarke remarks, checking if his flashlight was still operating, trudging closer to the group of three ahead of him.
”Yeah, Ms. Ratliff was a piece of work,” Hopper scoffs jokingly, Y/N doing the same as well, remembering his shitty science teacher from his past years while he studied at Hawkins High.
”Ratliff?” The teacher ponders, realizing that the same teacher still resides in Hawkins after all these years, “You bet. She’s still kicking around believe it or not.”
Victor elaborates in between them, sliding his hands onto his pockets, “I had her when I was in eighth grade a few years back.”
”Oh I believe it Victor. Mummies never die, so they tell me,” Hopper smiles, trying to get his daughter to notice but she dozed off beyond the sight of the woods, ”Sarah, my youngest, galaxies, the universe whatnot.. She always understood all that stuff. I always figured there was enough going down here, I never needed to look elsewhere.”
Y/N flickered her eyes towards her father’s direction after hearing the special name, it wasn’t so special to one, but to her, it was. Sarah, Sarah Hopper her little sister, but soon enough the teacher interrupted, “Maybe I’ll get her in my class I-“
“No, she uh.. she lives with her mom in the city,” He cuts the man off from his statement, Victor widening his eyes on Y/N’s side, knowing fully that wasn’t true.
The girl beside the tall boy looked back at his dark eyes, signaling him to be quiet, Y/N was aware of the fact that everyone in Hawkins knew Sarah’s death. Just because of her own blabbermouth, Steve told everyone including the parents her little secret the young female confessed to.
As much as her dad still wants to deny the fact the little one was gone and resting in peace, staying of his delusion Y/N wished she could have. It was a promise. A promise that everything was okay and there wasn’t nothing to worry about, almost some sort of fairy tale where everything had its happy endings with a happy family which wasn’t it.
“Thanks for coming out, Teach. We really appreciate it.” Hopper clears the air, trudging past them farther into the dark eerie woods, Y/N and Victor repeating his steps behind him.
Once they were  out of the picture and range from hearing, a middle aged woman spoke up next to the teacher, in a hushed tone saying, “She died a few years back.”
”Sorry?” Mr. Clarke shifted his head in bewilderment towards the lady for any clarification from the inadequate statement given.
”His kid.”
The teacher’s eyes widened, observing the two family members mumbling inaudible words behind the brisk trees of the cool night. He didn’t know the Hoppers hid their family, they never talked much about family when it came to projects when Y/N was younger. It seemed like something ever so private not like where many kids shared experiences with their loved ones, they always kept everything about their family closed up. Almost a mystery.
Y/N could hear the soft mumbles of the quiet conversation being exchanged by the lady and her former teacher, she felt sick knowing that her father stays in the delusion of her sister being alive, lying. Lying wasn’t so hard for her, Y/N was almost a professional at it when it came to helping the party in situations. But lying to her dad was different, it was the both of them against the horrid place called the world.
“Is Sarah going to be back?” A small girl walked over to the grown adults who stood at the front door, puffy eyes showing on their faces, as they held a plastic wristband and stuffed tiger after a long day from not seeing her sister. It was already near midnight.
Without any move, the woman, who to be seen was the girl’s mother, bursted into tears, her husband catching her into his arms. The youngling worriedly watched her parents shed tears, a middle aged woman got up from the couch to comfort both of them. Whispers and mumbles being shared between the adults, bringing more tears.
”Mommy?” The girl steadily crept next to her mom’s leg, wrapping her short arms around her waist, pressing her cheek against the woman’s body, “Don’t cry, I’m here.”
Sobs were still heard from the mother, the two of the women held each other tightly while the tall man let go from their hug, kneeling next to the girl’s level, “Y/N, kid-“
”Dad, where’s Sarah?!” Y/N shakily shouted, her stomach feeling uneasy, with her sister not being found. What happened to Sarah? She knew Sarah was going to get better. Why was mom crying? So many questions filled her head, eyes welling up, her father hugging her tightly with all the hurt and love. Y/N noticed the wristband that her father was holding, she peered closely to see a sloppy handwriting shown as the name Sarah, written all over it with the date when she was sent to the hospital.
”Sarah is... gone.”
The little’s watery eyes widened, her bottom lip trembling, she threw her arms around her father, her head leaning onto his shoulder. Her little sister was gone, she was alone now, her heart crumbling into a million pieces. Sarah, Sarah wasn’t here anymore. But it seemed so surreal, it was only yesterday the two sisters laughed about one of the nurses dropping her cup of coffee while getting chemotherapy.
“Dad.. Can she come back?”
Sadly grinning, Hopper wiped the girl’s chubby face from her tears, shaking his head, “I’m sorry kid, she’s not coming back.”
”But she has to! Sarah has to come home with us,” Y/N choked in her tears, her eyes becoming swollen, grabbing the wristband from her father’s large hand, “Sarah can’t leave me alone here. She promised she would stay.”
”Y/N, I know this is difficult but your sister left us. She’s in a better place now.”
Making her cry even more, Y/N’s mother rapidly kneeled next to her husband and daughter, she sniffed, grabbing onto her daughter, “We promised Sarah we would love each other and always stay safe. Forever.”
”Promise?”
Both of the girl’s parents joined in for a tight hug, Y/N fastening her arms around the two others, “Promise. We promise you sweet pea.”
”Y/N! Y/N!” A familiar voice boasted in the ears of Y/N, she focused her attention back to the voice. There was no one beside her by the time she looked around, it was the sounds of the wind and her alone. Her flashlight flickered in her hands, she shook it vigorously to try and turn it back on, but there was nothing coming out of it, just a dimly lit tone guiding her way. Nothing else in her sight except for the trees and moonlight, she tried her best to not overthink this and make her way back to the group.
Every turn she made in the paths, it led her to nowhere, noises filled the aura. Slowly, she began to worry, she wasn’t coming back to the group. Y/N’s head filled itself with thoughts, there was no way she could be lost, last time she was with Victor, rambling about the weather. Where was she? Looking up, she felt small droplets of water dripped onto her face above, Y/N squinted her eyes to avoid the drizzle. The water fell down slowly until it started raining heavier in the air, she wiped her face to dry it off and continue to try to find her way back.
“Dad!” Y/N shouted, wrapping her arms over herself, her hair becoming soaked along the time. She kept shouting and shouting, worry filling her in. The girl was afraid. What if she went missing like Will? Oh no.
Without a precaution, a branch from behind was heard. Y/N whipped her head to the direction, seeing a small human with a white gown rapidly run off to opposite direction, the rain blurring her eyes. Was that Will? Curious, she picked up speed to follow the boy, it may be Will. A chance of relief rushing in as her adrenaline sped up, almost running faster. “Will! It’s me!”
The boy didn’t stop, sprinting faster with his bare feet. Y/N still yelled, slowing her pace down, then picking it back up, going through the trees. An idea came to her, tugging at her metal whistle to her lips, blowing on it. The sound coming off it, maybe attracting people to find her and the boy, it has to be Will. Using her arms to run faster, she suddenly trips over a thick log after not seeing below her because of the wind, sending her to the floor. She whimpers as she felt her ankle burn in a pain, whistling even more.
From the distance, few people to what she could tell came forward to her, rain soaking over her head. Thunder being heard far away, Victor came into the picture to kneel down next to Y/N.
”Hey are you okay?” He worriedly checks on her, receiving a nod. Victor looked around for any possible wounds since he found her on the ground, “We couldn’t find you!”
Y/N hardly paid attention to him and looked afar to see if the boy would turn up again. She held Victor’s jacket to pull him closer, “I think I saw Will! He was running through there I-“
”Chief Hopper coming through, excuse me,” A voice from the crowd of people called in, Hopper bringing himself forward to find his soaking daughter on the ground pointing toward another direction. “What’s wrong?”
Victor moves to tell Hopper while being next to shaking and wet Y/N, “She saw Will.”

Warnings: cursing, death, fluff, angst, super hella sadness, all the good stuff. And season 3 spoilers ig
Part 9/9
Word count: 3.7k (THIS IS INSANE??)
Summary: Sometimes things just don’t go as planned and your world just comes crashing down, but it’s a good thing that you have people in your life to be there to catch you when you fall.
><
You squirmed out of Steve’s arms and ran to your dad, El limping close behind you pulled him into a big hug. Even though the last time you saw him was a few days ago, now was not the time for full fledged reunions you had to figure out what you guys were going to do to beat this thing.
As everyone was explaining their part of what had been going on over the last couple of days, you took your place under Steve’s arm. You watched as Jim gave Eleven the extra care she needed in that moment, making your lips curl up at the corners.
“But instead of, like, screws and metal, the Mind Flayer made its weapon with melted people.” Steve said trying to make sense of everything he was being told
“Yeah, and it was fucking terrifying.” you say remembering what happened at the hospital yesterday.
“Yeah, okay I’m just makin’ sure”
><
Hopping up on the counter next to Steve, you watched everyone scramble around trying to make last minute preparations before, Joyce, Murray and your dad headed down into the Russian bunker. You look at Steve’s face and how messed up it is and then look back at your father, hoping nothing too bad would happen to him down there.
Steve notice how deep in thought you were,
“Don’t hurt yourself, thinking to hard over there Hop.” he said trying to make light of a situation
You laughed slightly, still letting your mind wander in and out of focus.
“You okay?” he asked moving across the counter to be a little closer to you
“Yeah just thinking. A lot of things could go wrong, just nervous I guess.”
He nods his head in agreement, “But this is your dad we're talking about, he’ll be just fine.”
You overhear Dustin telling Hopper that they need a head start and a car to get to the highest point in Hawkins. He turns and waves Steve over, Steve gives you a pat on the knee before jumping off the counter and heading over to him. After telling Steve what he needed to do, he hollered out your name meaning you were needed.
Steve met you in the middle causing you to stop, he pulled you into a hug while telling you that he was in charge of taking Dustin and Erica to some radio tower.
“For the love of God, please be safe. It’s bad enough you’ve already been fucked up by the Russians, I really need you back in one piece.” you say to him pulling him just a little closer
“Oh you don’t have to worry about me, it’s you I'm worried about.”
You took a deep breath in before pulling away. You looked up into Steve’s eyes and placed a hand on his face, stroking his cheek with your thumb before walking over to your dad.
“I was summoned.” you say marching up to and standing next to your dad
“C’mere,” he said, pulling you into his side, “I need you to keep a really close eye on El for me, okay?”
“Of course dad.”
“This thing is after her, so you guys are going to Murray’s house, so you guys can stay safe, protected and off the radar until this is all over.”
“Alright.” is all you can muster out before he pulls you into a lung crushing hug.
><
You climb into the backseat of the Wheeler’s family car before Will and Lucas, leaving El, Mike and Max in the very back of the car. Nancy tries cranking the car but the engine just won’t start. Jonathan gets out to look, and says that there's a part missing, and it doesn’t make any sense. But all thoughts are put aside when you hear the sound of a very loud and familiar engine revving up.
“Get out, get out the car now” you say rather loudly nudging at Lucas’s side.
You all get out of the car and head back into the mall where you would be a little bit safer.
After you get inside Mike instantly pulls out his walkie and starts sending out a code for ‘Scoops Troop’. You're standing next to El with your arm wrapped around her shoulder rubbing up and down her arm in an attempt to keep her calm.
You see Jonathan, Nancy, Will and Max all walk over to the car that El had flipped over onto the Russian’s earlier that evening. You call Mike and follow in pursuit, climbing over the counter and behind the car to try and flip it over. You even let Eleven try to slip it over with her powers but it’s no use, but suddenly a bell goes off in your head. The same bell apparently goes off in Mike’s head because almost as if you were reading each others minds.
“Physics.” you both say in unison.
You flip the car over with the use of leverage and Jonathan begins his search for the ignition cable.
Max was the one to notice El digging through the trash, you were the first to walk over to her and Mike was the one to call out to her. You were asking if she was okay and telling her that she needed to save her energy when none other than the Mind Flayer comes crashing down into the mall.
“Fucking hell..”
You grab hold of Eleven’s hand and pull her away and out of sight.
The four of you are hidden behind some sort of stand in the middle of the mall when Dustin comes over the walkie talkie telling you all to confirm your safety, but the Mind Flayer wasn’t having any of it. It let out one of the loudest screeches you had ever heard, you hadn’t been that close to it before. Tears formed in your eyes from the pain and from fear.
“We’ve gotta move.” you whisper to Mike
“There’s a way to get out, through The Gap.” El whispers back
Mike peeks his head up to see where the Mind Flayer is and is looking,
“Okay, okay. Now.” he said, grabbing El’s hand making a break for it, but of course not without making some fort of ruckus making the Mind Flayer turn and charge. Luckily you push them behind a clothing display just before it makes it to where the items had fallen,
You put your index finger to your lips signaling for them to be extremely quiet before you covered your mouth with your entire hand, attempting to silence your heave breathing. Looking at the three teens you motioned for them to crawl over behind the checkout counter in case it was just playing games, not wanting to risk anything. Though moving to this new spot didn’t help too much because you heard to your left the nasty sound of what you could only imagine was the flesh moving around.
As you turned and looked to your left you could confirm what you had heard, seeing the flesh like claw coming around the corner to snap at you. There was a loud popping noise, that sounded a lot like a balloon that caused a distraction making the claw retreat now redirecting its attention to the new sound.
“Go, go go.”  you said to the kids and you got up making a mad dash towards the exit.
You run out the back door and towards the gate that allows delivery trucks in and out trying to catch up with Nancy and the others. But as you make it just outside the gate you see Flayed Billy standing behind his car. You make the kids turn around and go back inside the mall in hopes that Billy didn’t see you, but you wouldn't go unnoticed especially since you had to go back and press the close gate button a second time because it didn’t work the first time.
You run down a few different hallways trying to find another way out, whether that be up or down. So you pulled off into a side room where an elevator was, and mike pressed the button a few times. You really thought you had lost Billy at this point so you were good to take a little breather, until you heard the opening and shutting of a heavy metal door.
Max was the one to round the corner and see who it was,
“Billy. Billy, you don’t have to do this. Billy. Your name is Billy, Billy Hargrove, you live on 4819 Cherry Lane. Billy please, I’m Max, I’m your-” was all you heard before the monster backhanded her out of consciousness. Mike was the first to lunge at him, but instantly got thrown against the wall and was also knocked unconscious. That left you and El, you take your stand in front of your sister and attempt to throw a punch at him, You successfully hit him in the jaw,
“You’re gonna regret that you little bitch” he says as he grabs you by the arm and twists until you’re facing away from him and he slams your head into the wall, everything goes black
><
You wake up, what seems to be like hours later, seeing both Max and Mike still unconscious on the ground. You sit up, head pounding and your wrist and shoulder in excruciating pain. You crawl over to Max and get her to wake up, and when she does, she yells at Mike to get up.
“Are you guys okay?” you ask them. The both shake their heads, but then begin looking around the small room.
“Where’s El?” Mike asks.
The three of you run around in a panicked state of mind calling out for her hoping she had fucked Billy up and ran for help, but the more you looked the less hopeful you felt. You ran back down what you thought were the same hallways from earlier, but with your new concussion you weren’t so sure anymore.
You looked down to the ground and saw drops of blood and some sort of black stuff.
“Guys, look.” you say pointing down the hallway where the trail of blood led.
After some time you finally manage to make your way to the main part of the mall. You pulled yourself to a complete stop, sticking your arm out to stop Mike and Max from continuing on any further. El was on the floor talking to Billy.
You watched with wide eyes as Billy stood up in a protective stance over El. He stood there and stared at his creator, the thing that had destroyed him. Millions of memories flashed before his eyes as the fleshy tentacle that was supposed to kill your sister, shot out towards him. He stuck his arms out to stop it, to sacrifice himself.
You watched in pure shock as tentacles pierced into his sides and back, grabbing hold of him, hoisting him up. It all happened in slow motion, as if the universe was trying to torture you in some way. You watched as that thing took your Billy Hargrove and pierced into his chest.
“Billy!” you and Max screamed one after another
You choked up a sob as you took off running over to him, Max close behind. You slammed your knees into the ground as you grabbed Billy’s shoulders and shook them trying to keep him awake.
“Billy, Billy. Stay with me. Billy?”
His eyes fluttered open for a split second, this was the last time that he’d see your beautiful face.
“Hey, hey, hey, I need you to stay with me. Baby I can’t lose you. Please, baby please.”
He somehow managed to get an ‘I’m sorry’ out but you didn’t care he didn’t need to be apologizing right now, but that was the only thing he said before his whole body went limp. You continued to shake his shoulders, in disbelief that this was happening and that if you kept him awake long enough he would be okay.
“Billy, no please, Billy.” it suddenly feels like you can’t breath but the only thing you can do is yell. You’re choking out sobs as you strain your voice yelling out his name.
Steve makes it down to the second floor as quickly as he can and is behind you in seconds. He puts his hands on your shoulders in an attempt to pull you away and into his arms but you turn and yell at him.
“No! Stop it! Don’t let them touch him! Billy! Billy!” Each phrase is spoken with more sobs. You finally collapse into Steve’s arms, shaking violently with each cry.
All you can seem to say at this point was Billy’s name. Steve leads you to a paramedic and says that he’ll meet you outside, turning around and running back inside. You along with all of the others are checked over and are cleared to go home after sitting in ambulances for a while.
After Steve is checked, he walks over to you, Max and El and takes a seat next to you. The two are in a very tight hug, your sister is doing her best at comforting Max in this time of loss. You sit in silence, not having enough energy or emotion to talk. Steve wraps his arms around you with his blanket and pulls you into a tight embrace. You mellow out your breathing until you realize that you haven’t seen Murray, Joyce or your dad anywhere.
In a panic you release from Steve’s grip and grab your sister’s hand leading her to stand up. The two of you spend a few minutes looking around for them with no luck, suddenly you spot Joyce. No sign of Hopper, you notice that El see’s her too and looks to you confused as to why dad wasn't with her. But then she realizes, you know it too, dad didn’t make it.
Eleven turns into your arms and lets all of her tears out, and just when you think you don’t have any tears left to cry, all of your tears fall on top of her head. She lets out one scream and that’s it, the rest are sobs. You cradle her head, holding onto her and not letting go.
Both Joyce and Steve offer to take both you and El in for the night, seeing as how the cabin had been destroyed earlier that night and Hop wasn’t there to take you in for some extra loving. Of course you spent the next couple of weeks staying the night at the Byers’ house. But after a while it started to get a little too cramped so while El stayed with Joyce while you stayed with Steve. Most days were the same, super hard and emotional. But other days, you would be taking a few steps forward to recovery. It wasn’t easy, and it wasn't ever going to get easier, but you at least had the right people in your life to help you out.
>3 months later<
Over the last three months things have gotten better, you spent lots of time with Max and Eleven. Making sure that they’re both okay and that they know that they are both very loved. Your dad always told Joyce that if anything were to ever happen to him, that if she was up for it, to take care of El. It wasn’t that he didn't trust you to take care of her, he just knew that it would be a lot for you at such a young age.
Joyce took her in with open arms, and even offered a room to you when she mentioned that they would be moving to Maine. You declined, only because Steve couldn't handle all the kids by himself. Steve’s mom even offered to let you stay in their guest room until you and Steve could get your own place, you had only been talking about it since you were 11. The two of you still planned on doing that, but with being unemployed at the moment it was kinda hard to have money to pay rent.
Today was the final day of packing up the Byers house. You had planned on being there but got pulled into a last minute job interview at Family Video with Robin and Steve. But as soon as you were done there, you were heading over to say your goodbyes. It was a hard day and you were trying not to think about it.
Good news: the three of you start work on Monday. Bad news: it was time for the Byers to leave.
As you and Steve pulled up it looked like they had just put the last box in the moving truck. You hopped out of the car and jogged up to the door right as Joyce was coming out with a box for you to take home.
“What’s this?” you ask, taking the box from her
“Just a couple of Hop’s things, I thought you'd might want them.”
You sat the box down on the front porch and pulled her in for a hug, “Thank you, for everything. For the stuff and for basically being my mom and for taking El in. It means a lot to me.” A few tears escaped from your eyes.
As everyone was saying their final goodbyes you pulled El in for one final hug.
“You don’t have to go, you know..” you say in a half joking manner. “you could stay here with me, get our own place or fix up the cabin. He did it before.”
All she does is chuckle lightly and buries her face deeper into your chest.
“I'm really gonna miss you, kid” you say quoting something your dad would say, “but I’ll see you soon. I think we’re all coming up for Thanksgiving next month and then Christmas is right after that.”
“I know” she said quietly, “I love you, Y/N”
“I love you too El.” you pulled away from the hug and locked pinkies with her and kissed your own hands. Giving each other a small smile before moving on to the others.
“You have Steve’s number right?” you asked before pulling her into one last hug. She nodded her head as she pulled you closer for one last squeeze before climbing into the passenger seat of the moving truck. You shut the door behind her patted the door and just like that they were gone. The kids all ride their bikes back to their designated homes and you and Steve climbed back into his car to head home too.
><
As Steve puts his car into park he shifts a little in his seat, you don’t notice because you're looking down at your hands with tears rolling down your cheeks.
“I know today’s kind of a hard day for you, but I have something that might make you feel a little bit better.” he says running a hand through his hair.
He reached behind you into the back seat and pulled out a flat velvet box, you give him a curious look,
“Max and I, we talked about this for a really long time and she really wanted you to have this.” he says handing you the box.
You open it and your eyes fill with more tears as your hands drop to your lap and your head hung forward. Inside the box was Billy’s Virgin Mary necklace. It had been polished and shined and cleaned and it looked better than ever. You set the box to the side and you wrap your arms around Steve and give him a hug. After you pull away you pick up the box again and look down at it.
“I miss him Steve,” you say resting your head on his shoulder.
“I know you do.” he said as he wraps his arm around you
You sit up and look at him and he's looking back at you with nothing but love in his eyes, you think it’s time you told him.
“Steve there’s something I need to tell you.” your heart is beating so hard you’d be surprised if he couldn’t hear it. “These last 3 months have been some of the hardest months of my life, not only because I lost so much but because I’ve realized a lot of things. I learned my self worth, it’s been a while since I’ve truly been happy. And I found that I’m only truly happy when I’m with you. I also know that Billy would’ve wanted me to move on at some point, and as much as he said he hated you Harrington, he wouldn’t want me to be with anyone but you.”
He looked at you like if he blinked everything would fade away and none of this would be real. You reach out and place a hand on his face, looking over where wounds had once been and were now turning into scars.
“ I love you Steve.” You finally say
He doesn’t say anything back he just leans in and presses his soft lips against yours. The kiss held so much love and emotion. It felt just like the movies, like the moment when these things always happened. Time seemed to have slowed down, allowing you take it all in and cherish it.
“I’ll take that as the feeling’s mutual?” You say with a giggle.
Steve brushes his nose against yours before kissing you again, only this time with more force. You took this as his way of saying yes. His mouth hot on yours as his hands grabbed your waist awkwardly from the place he was sitting and pulled you as close as he could. You both only pulled away to catch a breath.
This would be a moment you would remember for the rest of your life. It wasn’t your first kiss, wasn’t even your second, or hundredth, but it was your first kiss as lovers, but it definitely would not be your last. The world would throw crazy things at you, especially when you aren’t ready for it, but you don’t have to deal with it alone anymore.
You just always have to know that sometimes things just don’t go as planned and your world might come crashing down and it’ll fall apart, but always remember that you’ll have people in your life to be there to catch you when you fall.

Strange, isn't it? Each man's life touches so many other lives. When he isn't around he leaves an awful hole, doesn't he?
— It’s A Wonderful Life, 1946
[ day 1: love, actually, is all around ]
Today is Monday. Winter break has started but Mondays are still Mondays whether vacationing or not. Snowball or whatever high schoolers called it—basically the winter formal for ‘85—was the night before, the first winter dance for high school freshmen, and Mike didn’t attend. He didn’t see a reason to even though Lucas, Max, and Nancy kept trying to convince him otherwise. Even Dustin got on the floor and danced to a few tunes according to Lucas’ overly excited report on the night’s activities. It almost makes Mike wish he dropped by, but he couldn’t stomach hanging about in the corner watching everyone dancing and hugging and kissing when his heart drove away stuffed inside a packed box of Byers’ belongings in the back of a U-haul two and a half months ago.
Maybe Mike would have gone if he called up El and asked how she felt, even though they hadn’t talked in at least two weeks. Ever since the Wheelers visited for Thanksgiving, things between Mike and El have been a tad...awkward. He couldn’t tell who made their every interaction more tense than a trip wire but he knew he couldn’t absolve himself of all blame. He’d take accountability for his actions if he knew what he did that made El decide a break would be best for their friendship. For the first few days after Thanksgiving, Mike and El still talked but December came around and finals kicked Mike’s ass and calling El slowly fell off the list of most important tasks on the day.
Will still called though. Mike never hesitated to pick up the phone and send him a hello when he did. They still had a lot in common and Mike found it silly that he ever thought moving away would suddenly mean they can’t be friends anymore, but it seemed like a valid concern at the time. It was difficult coming to terms with distance as a barrier blocking him from the tactile friendship he grew up fostering, nurturing, and protecting for longer than he could remember. Mike quickly found he missed the way Will’s breath hitched on certain words, little notches in consonants that were swallowed by the static found in a phone call. He also missed that he couldn’t see Will’s face when they talked. He forgot how often he watched the other boy’s face to read his expressions and words far more than he would listen to his actual words. Not that he didn’t listen but...Will’s face said a lot in the glow of his eyes and the small upwards tilt of his lips.
And maybe Mike didn’t attend Snowball ‘85 because he tried to call the Byers residence Saturday night and no one answered. And maybe his imagination had him thinking that El and Will were out at a dance for their new school, having fun with strangers and mingling with people Mike only knew the names of from Will and El’s stories about their new school. And maybe, Mike just wanted an easy excuse for staying home alone as the rest of his family went out, so he could hide behind scribbles in his writing journal, painting phrases meant to echo the sound of his beating heart, hollow in his chest as winter chilled his mind.
So, it’s Monday. It’s cold, damp, and snowy, and the scarf Mike’s mom draped over his shoulders and the lower half of his face filters stingingly cold snowflakes from drifting up his pink flushed nose. He’s been sent out to grab eggnog from the shop downtown, the one Joyce used to work at in fact. Mike would have protested but his mom and Nancy agreed that since he stayed home all day yesterday, it was only fair he went outside himself for a short spell.
The bike ride is easy. His fingers are stiff on the handle bars despite the thick gloves protecting his fingers from the worst of the cold. The ice on the roads was cleared off early in the morning so he doesn’t skid very often making his way down the asphalt streets. Snow continues to swirl around him in a dainty breeze, peppering white specks in what hair peaks out from under his wool hat, making his hair look washed with bits of white as if he’s older than 15, which he only just turned a month ago either way. Mike’s mind wanders to his birthday party, the first one without Will since he turned 6, and he angrily grits his teeth and pedals faster. Various other snowflakes melt on his red freckled cheeks and sparkle on his lashes. Mike hums lightly and turn around a corner until he skids to a gentle stop at his destination. He hops off his bike, booted feet crunching against a thick pile of snow, and parks it before making his way inside the building.
Mike pulls his damp scarf from around his nose and mouth with a rough exhale. He snatches off his hat, shaking it off as he walks inside, and takes a hand to his hair in a messy attempt to make it look more orderly than before. Stuffing the hat in the wide pockets of his puffy snow jacket, Mike traipses toward the refrigerated isle. He keeps humming as he did on his bike ride, grabbing two cartons of eggnog and snatching a red and green container filled with candy canes he passes on his way through the nearby candy isle. The candy canes made him think of Will, who was always so eager to start eating the peppermint flavored treats once December came around. A tiny smile slips onto his lips as he stares at the goods in hand, remembering drinking eggnog in large mugs, chewing on candy canes and making eggnog mustaches that they would tease each other about as they imitated Hopper and his brutish tone.
“Is that all for you, Wheeler?”
Mike blinks out of his memories. “Oh? Yeah. Just picking up some eggnog for my mom.” He places the items on the counter and scrounges his pants for pocket change. “She’s been really on top of making sure we have everything for Christmas even though we’re still a bit over a week out. Just on Friday we went out shopping for a lot more food than I think any of us could eat. I don’t even know why we need more eggnog.”
“It’s never too early to prepare yourself,” the cashier takes Mike’s money and stores it in the register. “She could be preparing a surprise for all you know.”
“A surprise?” He takes the plastic bag passed along with a snort. “Yeah, my mom doesn’t really do surprises. Outside of presents but everyone knows those are meant to surprises.”
He gets a hum in response. “Well, enjoy your surplus of eggnog, Michael. Take care of yourself out there. The snow is coming down harder.”
Mike looks out the storefront window and sighs. “I’ll be fine. It’s not like I’m biking through a blizzard.”
“You’re welcome to stay inside for a few and wait for the snow to calm down.” A soft smile dons the other’s face. “I can call your mom and let her know about your delay.”
“Oh,” Mike stares at his goods. “I don’t want the eggnog to get warm.”
“No worries; you can put it back in the ‘frigerator and I’ll be sure to remind you to pick it back up.” Mike nods slowly. “Let me call your mother now.”
He nods again, brow wrinkling as he puts the eggnog back. His hands only hold a plastic bag filled with candy canes. Mike pulls out the container and rips off the plastic to take out one of the cane-shaped candies. He walks back to the counter, hearing but not listening to the last dregs of the shopkeeper’s conversation with his mom, and starts to chew on a candy cane. He remembers when Joyce used to man the store and how she would let him and the boys jump up and sit on the counters during rainy days when she didn’t want any of them walking outside getting soaking wet. Sometimes Mike’s mom would stop by and say hello, chat with Joyce for much longer than she needed to if just to let Mike have a few more minutes with his friends before he was carted back home.
The memories are washed with the sweet yet strong blanketed taste of peppermint that fills his mouth thanks to the candy cane. Mike sighs and pulls the candy from his mouth, smiling to himself as he already sees he’s started to suck a sharp point from the tip. Dustin and Lucas loved to sword fight with the pointy end, which Mike found pretty gross since it was all covered in their spit but it was still fun in that typical boyish kind of way. He bites the pointy tip off and turned to look outside just in time for a bundle of cloth to barge its way through the doors as the snowstorm outside indeed gets stronger.
Mike belated wonders why he didn’t bother to check the weather, and then grows confused about why his mom sent him outside knowing the upcoming weather—she’s always on top of things like that so her kids don’t get sick. He turns to the intruder who’s interrupted his trip down snowy memory lane, and then unintentionally drops his candy canes once the figure uncovers enough of his bundled face. The candies break on impact but it’s a distant noise to the rush of blood pounding through Mike’s heart. All Mike would have to see is his hair, let alone his eyes—those always familiarly homey green-hazel eyes—to know exactly who stands before him.
“Will?”
The mentioned boy turns on his heel and then drops the scarf he had been untying from around his neck. “Oh my god, Mike!”
Mike can’t move; his feet seem frozen in place as if he’d been standing outside for three hours straight. Will makes his way forth, hat in hand and—oh, a haircut. Mike’s throat dries up but he manages to move his arms for a hug. Will’s warmth shatters the ice around Mike’s legs and he practically crumples into the shorter boy’s arms. He burrows his face in Will’s hair with a crooked smile. “What’re you doing in Hawkins?”
“Mom said we could come by and visit since you came up to see us last month.” Will pulls away with a wide grin that makes Mike’s heart climb up his throat. “I didn’t expect to see you here, though! What a coincidence.”
Mike looks over at the store clerk who is washing off the counter and acting as if she can’t hear their conversation. “Yeah, coincidence.” He turns back to his friend and places his hands on his shoulders. “You’ve grown even more already.”
Will shrugs. “Guess it’s my time to grow a foot in a year, huh?”
“Try me,” laughs Mike, squeezing Will’s shoulder in a comforting gesture. “It’s great to see you, honestly. You left a big hole for us to try to fill.”
“Did you really try to fill it?”
Mike shakes his head. “Nah, not really. It’s a Will Byers shaped hole anyway. No one else could have it even if they tried.”
The warm smile that curls on Will’s lips sends Mike halfway into a hysterical conniption. How can he miss one person this much? How is his entire life so affected by the presence—or lack thereof—of one person? How did Hawkins as a whole feel so bleak without this boy? Mike didn’t think he grew this attached, but looking back on things, of course he did. Of course it was so obvious; now, if he can get a handle on how attached he is...
“I think you dropped your candy canes.” Will bends down to pick up the pieces and Mike, startled by the sudden action, ducks down to help as well. They both reach for the same piece, Mike’s warm fingers brushing against Will’s chilled ones, and their eyes immediately lock. Pink blossoms against Will’s soft cheeks and Mike is sure the same can be said for him.
“Sorry,” he whispers, snatching his hand away but Will reaches out. His hand is shaking, whether with the cold or the emotions racing his chest, Mike can’t tell but it’s a comfort either way. He stares at their hands, the slight tan of Will’s against the lighter pale tone of his own, pink at the knuckles and tips of his fingers. Mike has always been prone to easily flushed skin thanks to how pale he is, and while it was a bother when he was younger, right now at least, he likes seeing the difference between himself and Will, even if it’s not a startling difference.
Will’s thumb brushes against the back of Mike’s hand. “I’ve missed you a lot. You haven’t called recently.”
“I called on Saturday,” he blurts out, “but you didn’t answer.”
“Oh.” Will squeezes Mike’s hand and he looks up to see the other boy smiling as he watches their fingers. “We were on our way driving to Hawkins.”
“We?”
“Yeah, me, Mom, Jonathan, and El.” He looks up at El and Mike cringes slightly. Will’s hand stills. “Uh, I can go get her if you want to say hello?”
“No! No, this is...you’re fine.” Mike scrambles to gather his splintered candy canes and shoves them in the grocery bag as he stands. Will stands as well. “Don’t worry about that. We’re not...I mean we’re still friends but...”
“Yeah, I know.” Will stuffs his hands in his pockets and rocks on the heels of his feet. He’s not slouching as much anymore and that brings a soft smile to Mike’s lips. “I just thought you might want to catch up with her.”
“Later. Later for sure but right now just,” Mike looks back outside and see the storm has gotten worse. He thinks back to the conversation with the clerk about surprises and ducks his head as he smiles. “This is fine, just you and me. I’m glad you’re here.”
He feels something brush his hand and turns his gaze to Will’s fingers dancing against his hand. He turns his palm up and blushes when Will goes for the plunge and holds Mike’s hand in his own, their fingers slotting together with the ease of matching puzzle pieces. Mike looks up but Will isn’t facing him, though he doesn’t need to see Will’s face to know he’s happily blushing, too.

knock me the fuck out (i dare ya, babe) part two
More Teacher Steve and Soft Billy!
Part One

Angie is left to wail with around the living room with increasingly frustrated hunger, because Steve needs to spend the first thirty minutes after he comes home screaming into a pillow.
Had Billy seen him staring?
He was so sweet with Lauren, so gentle to her that Steve couldn’t help his smiling, but he’d seen the annoyed expression on Billy’s face from the corner of his eye when he’d turned away. Could he tell that Steve had been checking him out earlier? Maybe he just didn’t want to call him out in front of Lauren and the other children? Maybe he loathed Steve just as much as ever did?
Steve hugs a pillow to his stomach and rests his cheek atop it, feeling glum. Figures. Figures that the first boy he’d ever been attracted to would roll back into town ten years later (looking finer than any person has a right to!), while Steve spends his days with children and his nights alone.
He can’t even get a girlfriend anymore – after the big bisexual breakdown, no girl in Hawkins will date him, but he wished he had a boyfriend or at least a hookup he could call.
Robin gets dates, but he concedes that it’s probably easier when the entire town doesn’t know you’re a queer.
He can’t date any woman within ten miles of the town – even if she somehow doesn’t already know the whole stupid story yet, someone will happily and gleefully open their mouth to enlighten her. And no man will date him either, because agreeing to that is basically agreeing to let the whole town know who you are. There’d be no hiding it.
Flopping his face back down into the pillow, Steve screams some more, before jumping off the couch with a sudden burst of motion. No, no. He promised himself, he promised Robin, he promised Dustin, that he wasn’t going to make himself feel bad about this anymore. The past was the past, and he couldn’t change it.
So what if his dad never spoke to him and his mom only called twice a year? That was about the amount of contact they used to have! So what if the parents tried to stop him from being hired? They hadn’t been able to succeed and Steve got the job of his dreams anyway! So what if he still had a crush on Billy Hargrove? He’d survived it the first time and he’d survive it again.
God knows he’s survived worse.
“Uh, Steve-o?” Robin asks, looking around the kitchen. “Wanna tell me what happened to you today?”
“What do you mean?” Steve responds absently, without looking up from the pan of mushrooms on the stove.
“Steve, you’re making beef wellington, honey,” she says carefully, as though making Steve aware of this might make him explode or something. “I mean, please don’t stop, because your beef wellington is fucking amazing – but you also only make it when you feel like shit. So. Wanna tell me what’s going on?”
He stares down at the pan. “Did you know that Billy Hargrove was back in town?”
“Billy – Max’s brother, Billy?” Robin asks. Steve could almost feel her bristling. “He didn’t start threatening you again, did he?”
“No, Max was right,” he says, in the soft stilted tone that tells her he’s actually very upset. “He’s much calmer now.”
“Okay,” she says slowly. “Then you need to tell me why you look like someone killed Angie in front of you.”
Woodenly, he replies “Remember how I said I had a crush on a straight boy, back in ’86, when all the shit was going down?”
“Oh my god, Steve-”
“But he wouldn’t give me the time of day, unless it involved his fist and my face? Billy was that boy. Is that boy. Man. Whatever.”
“Steve,” Robin says seriously, grabbing onto his forearms and holding her eyes open wide as she tries not to laugh. “Billy isn’t any straighter than I am.”
---
After leaving Lulu with Steve fucking Harrington, holy shit, Billy feels the urgent need for a cigarette as soon as he leaves the school parking lot. He fishes for a lighter before whispering “Fuck” because of course he can’t smoke in the fucking car anymore, Lulu rides in this car with him now.
Cursing, Billy pounds on the steering wheel and pulls over to furiously smoke a cigarette outside, standing on the side of the road because Steve was there, and how the fuck has he gotten even prettier in the last ten years?, and Billy wanted to fuck him on that desk so bad something was wrong with him, and Steve’s smile for the person Billy loved most in the world was absolutely devastating.
Easy as that blinding smile, Billy could feel the old ghosts of his yearning – if not laid to rest, then at least peaceful in their haunting – live and howl again.
Getting back into the driver’s seat involves a whole new chorus of swearing, but he needs to get into work, mental breakdown or not. The bell over the shop jingles as he steps inside, accompanied by the intoxicating smell of sugar, flour, and vanilla.
The woman standing behind the counter of the bakery display finally manages to break his bad mood and he cracks a smile for her. “Hey, Trouble.”
Eleven leans over the counter, palms flat on the glass, her curls pinned to the back of her head. There’s flour smudged across her face and raspberry jam on her apron. “Who, me?”
He hugs her over the counter and kisses her flour-dusted cheek. “Yeah, you topple any major government conspiracies lately?”
Loftily, El says “I like to take the winters off.”
“Is that right?” he drawls, turning the hand-washing station onto hot after hanging up his jacket. “Then I’m just in time.”
She stares at him from her spot leaning against the pastries display, chin resting on her small fist. “Yes, you are,” she says in that eerie tone that means she isn’t talking about herself anymore. “Welcome home, Billy.”
Drying off his hands, Billy says “How come you ain’t tell me how bad things had gotten with her, huh?”
El stands straight, arms protectively folded over herself. “She was already mad at me for…the whole…”
She waves her hand around ambiguously, but Billy correctly interprets that as ‘spilling the beans on that asshole she married’. “She ain’t mad at you,” he soothes. “She’s mad at herself.”
When Eleven still looks unconvinced, he adds, “Don’t tell her I said so, but I know she misses you. Misses all of the nerd herd.”
“We may not be together anymore, but we miss her too,” she says sadly.
Billy’s gaze sharpened upon her. “You tellin’ me Wheeler just left you out here in this backwoods town all by yourself?”
She shrugs. “We grew up. He wanted to go to MIT and I didn’t want to follow him.”
He wants to tell her that Mike Wheeler was insane to leave her, but honestly, staying in Indiana for a teenage girl and giving up MIT was way more insane.
El nods. “Yeah, that’s what I told him.”
He glares at her. “No peaking, Ellie.”
She lifts her hands in surrender. “Stop thinking at me so loud, then.”
Steve, Steve, Steve – has she seen about Steve? El’s eyes widen. Shit. SHIT. SHIT.
“Uh..” She chews at her bottom lip.
“We are not talking about this,” he informs her flatly, pushing the door to the back room open. “You’re gonna pretend you didn’t…hear…see…whatever.”
“Billy…” she says hesitantly.
“What I literally just say?” he demands.
“Yes, okay, but…” Her eyes search his expression intently. “Um…Max didn’t tell you what happened during Spring Break in ’86, did she?”
He swore he was ‘bout to get whiplash from this girl. “Noooo,” he says, drawn out. “Why? What happened back in ’86?”
“Um…” El’s face turns red and she scratches nervously at the nape of her neck. “Steve, um…oh, never mind! Ask Max if you want to know.”
---
“What do you mean, Billy’s not straight?!” Steve demands, practically standing on the kitchen counter as he yells the question at her.
Robin is still trying very hard not to laugh. “Uh, okay…how do I put this…I want you to look back on your memory of Billy Hargrove when we were in high school, Steve. Think really, really hard. Did you ever actually see him kissing a girl? Dating any girls, back in school? Can you name a single girl he dated?”
“Everybody knew he was a total horndog,” Steve scoffs, feeling that old belated jealousy rear its ugly head.
“No, I don’t care about what everyone knew. What did you see, Steve? Remember the way Billy dressed?”
He rolls his eyes. “He was from California, Rob.”
“I visited Disneyland when I was sixteen. I did not see anyone in California dressed like that. He wore eyeliner and curled his hair, Steve. And if I’m remembering this correctly, that boy flashed his tits like he was starring in his own fucking porn video.” She smirks at his steadily reddening cheeks. “Your boy? Is gay, Steve-o.”
Robin pauses and squints a moment, as though staring at something in the distance. “Wait, Billy was a lifeguard that summer, right? Red shorts, came into Scoops and ordered…”
“Double strawberry,” Steve mutters, feeling bitchy and depressed.
“Oh my god.” This time, Robin couldn’t hold the laughter in.
“What?” he asks, annoyed. “I mean, I know the mustache wasn’t really working for him back then, but you should see-”
“No-no-no,” she cackles, holding her sides. “Oh my god, boys are so dumb. Steve-Steve, back then? Billy wanted to choke on your dick real bad.
He stares at her blankly.
“Real bad, Steve.”
“What are you even talking ab-no! No!” Steve snaps. “Billy hated me! He beat my face in and tormented me from the moment he stepped into town, Rob!”
It’s Robin’s turn to scoff. “You’ve never heard about that trite old adage about boys who pull on little girls’ pigtails, Steve? Except that his little girl was another boy – a boy who already had a girlfriend when he got into town.”
“No way,” Steve snaps.
“And he wants this boy’s attention really, really bad, Steve. But this boy had just got his heart broken and didn’t know he also liked boys, yet. Billy’s boy won’t give him the attention he wants and he’s got a lot of anger management and self-control issues. We see that in the classroom every day, Steve. What do you think Billy would do?”
“That’s a pretty picture you’re painting,” Steve says flatly, rolling their wellington into its blanket of puff pastry. “I have a much simpler explanation – Billy was an egomaniac who thought I was at the head of the Hawkins food chain and decided that he was going to be the new apex predator and humiliated me to accomplish that. Him being gay or not doesn’t factor into it.”
Robin pours them both a glass of red – she’ll have to drink a lot of water if she doesn’t want a headache, but she needs it tonight. “Okay, I’ll make you a deal,” she says airily. “I bet you a full year of grading tests that Billy Hargrove would totally suck face with you.”
“Okay, hold on a fucking minute!” he sputters. “Even assuming this bullshit your on about him having the hots for me ten years ago is true, that has nothing to do with right now!”
“Steve, you look like a nerd,” she says gently. “And nerd really works for you, dingus. If he doesn’t want to at least make out with you a little, the man has no taste and you need to move on.”
“How about I skip the whole question and move on regardless,” Steve says dryly.
“Then you forfeit the bet and you’re marking all of my quizzes for the entire school year next year.”
“Goddamn it, Robin.”
---
“Uncle Billy, what are those silver thingies on your tummy?” Lulu asks, poking at the scars covering his torso where her uncle is in the middle of washing the dishes.
Very seriously, Billy says “That’s where I got bitten by the werewolf.”
He hears Max mutter “Oh my god, Billy”, but she doesn’t attempt to dissuade him from telling the story the way he pleased – after all, what would she tell her? That Uncle Billy was possessed by an interdimensional alien being that had come to Hawkins through a hole in the world beneath their feet and fought a monster made of pulverized corpses with his bare hands? Werewolf it is, then!
“Nooo, Uncle Billy, you’re not a werewolf!” she protests with a little giggle.
“Yes I am. Uh-oh, Lulu,” he says somberly. “Oh, no – it’s-it’s the full moon!”
She vibrates with anticipation, giving a loud shriek when Billy lets out a wolf-like howl and lunges for her. “RAAAAAAAAAH!”
“NOOOOOO!!!”
He wears her out good, chasing her around the house for nearly an hour before he convinces her it’s time to go to bed now. He lets Max relax and talks Lulu through bedtime himself. Feeling like a dickhead as he plops down onto the sofa, where Max is watching a rerun of Friends, Billy just sucks it up and says “So, what’s up with Harrington and Spring Break of ’86?”
To his complete surprise, Max’s jaw gets tight and her eyes flash. “Jesus fucking Christ, the people in this town really can’t keep their mouths shut, can they?” she says angrily. “So who told you, huh?”
“Uh…what?” he says blankly, feeling really far away all of a sudden. “Ellie-Eleven told me I need to ask you about Harrington and what happened in ’86, she never said why I need to ask.”
Yeah, he was still very unclear about why this was a story he had to hear.
Max gives him an owlish stare. “She…she wanted you to know?”
“…’s what she said, man.” He shrugs.
“Wow. Okay. Uh…so during Spring Break, one of your old classmates came home from college and threw this really big party,” Max begins, puffing her cheeks out with a sigh. “Steve and his friend Robin – you remember Robin? Blonde, used to work with him at Scoops? They were at this party, and the longer the night went on, the more that shit got out of hand. Like people were passed out on the front lawn. Someone broke into the neighbor’s house because they were too drunk to realize they knocked on the wrong door. Todd Grace took the riding lawn mower from the garage and crashed it somewhere on the golf course down the road. So, naturally the cops showed up.”
“Naturally,” Billy says neutrally, still wondering exactly where in the hell this story was going.
“Everybody freaked when they came in and Robin couldn’t find Steve, so she assumed that he’d hooked up with someone and forgot to tell her that he was leaving. She didn’t realize that he was still there, and he had no idea that the cops had come and were already in the house.”
She stops and stares at the ceiling. “If anybody in this town could keep their mouths closed, that would be the end of the story, but some of the officers blabbed, and now the whole fucking town knows that they found Steve Harrington in a closet on his knees, sucking off two high school seniors.”
Billy’s brain starts floating on ‘Steve Harrington on his knees’ and launches itself into outer space at ‘sucking off’. Immediately it becomes critical that he try not to picture that – young Steve, still doe-eyed and pretty, but brattier, the stuck up ice princess, with his soft sweet mouth wrapped around-
Max’s jaw tightens up with rage again. “I find it really interesting that whenever someone tells that story, they never mention Mike Tentiss or Zach Cooper, but they were the ones standing there with their pants around their ankles.”
Billy stares at the television without really seeing another on the screen. “Why you never tell me that story, Maxine?”
She’s known he was gay since just before she got married. She kept making jokes about getting him a nice girlfriend or hooking up with one of her bridesmaids, until Billy had just snarled over the phone “Maxine, I am a FUCKING queer!”
Softly, Max says “Cause it started this whole town-wide drama and it almost ruined Steve’s life, Billy. Darlene Cooper tried to have him arrested for molesting her son, but obviously Zach was only a year younger than him. She went around to our house and the Wheeler’s and the Sinclair’s and Mrs. Henderson and Mrs. Byers and tried to get one of us to say Steve had…done something to us.”
“Jesus Christ.” That sounds like something out of Billy’s worst nightmares.
She dips her head into a nod. “Uh-huh. It didn’t work, obviously, and Mrs. Byers – I never saw her that mad, Billy. She screamed at Darlene something awful. Some of the parents threw a fit when the school hired him, said he didn’t have any business being around kids, but I think his mom pulled some strings. She and his dad have basically disowned him. He thought none of us would want to speak to him ever again – I mean, the boys got a little weird for a bit, but Erica was…Erica, and they came around. It’s really sad, though. He’s one of the nicest men I know, but no girl in town will go out with him.”
Confused, Billy says “Uh, ain’t he…?”
She shrugs. “Robin says he likes both, I guess. Anyway, no woman in this town will go on a date with him, and no man will so much as be alone in a room with him. Like if Steve sneezes on them, they’ll suddenly want to suck a dick or something.”
Oh, I’d do a helluva lot more than be alone in a room with Steve Harrington. And there wouldn’t be any ‘suddenly’ about it.
Billy realizes that Max is looking very suspicious right now and narrows his eyes. “Max. Maxie. Maxine. Maxine Roberta, please tell me that you and Eleven aren’t trying to set me up on a date with Steve Harrington.”
His baby sister looks even guiltier. She picks at her fingernails, staring down at her lap. “You don’t-you’ve never talk about any guys that you’re going out with, you’ve never even told me that you were interested in a guy,” she mumbles. “I just…don’t want you to be lonely. Dustin thinks Steve is – lonely, I mean. You’re the same age and you can both…y’know. Handle all the weird shit around here.”
“Mad Max,” he sighs, and tucked the wisps of red hair behind her ears the way he had for Lulu this morning. “I was not nice to Harrington. I was never nice to Harrington – and I don’t just mean the night I nearly killed him. There was a whole bunch of shit you guys weren’t around to see. The fact that we’re both willing to suck a dick doesn’t change anything, Max.”
“But you apologized for that ten years ago!” She pleads with her big blue eyes. “Please? I’m not asking you to go on a date with him, just be nice to him when you see him, okay?”
Gruffly, he says “That why ya didn’t wanna tell me who Lulu’s teacher was?”
---
Saturday morning means going to the 11th Hour, because Robin has a hangover and going to the 11th means that they don’t really have to get dressed because El has seen them both covered in mud, blood (their own), blood (others), blood (alien), and puke – all at the same time.
Also, Steve is a grown ass man who can’t be bothered to put on real adult clothes unless he has to teach and today he’s just fucking given up on his hair because the only people who are gonna see him are Robin, who still calls him dingus after ten years of knowing him, and El, who still seems to think he’s Prince Charming after ten years of knowing him (god help her).
Steve and Robin both think it’s very cute that Eleven the Eggo Queen decided she wanted to open a bakery when she grew up. And she’s really good at it, too. She makes this spiced tart thingy with pears and cherries that he would hold someone at gunpoint for. He loves it so much that she makes a big one on his birthday every single year.
Her eyes light up when they walk through the door, looking so pleased that Steve has a guilty thought that they may’ve been neglecting her a little. “Good morning!” she greets, wriggling with excitement as she leans over the counter. “Christmas galette for Steve and for Robbie…?”
“Tart au citron,” Robin says decisively after a moment’s thought. “And coffee.”
“Lots of coffee,” Steve adds with a grimace. The half a bottle of wine was a mistake and he’d known it was gonna be a mistake even as he was pouring their glasses. “El, can you pretty please with chocolate chip Eggos on top make your hangover sandwiches for me? I’ll watch the counter for you! Please?”
Even more pleased, El says “Oh that’s okay, I can make them. Hang on.”
The swinging robin’s egg blue of the backroom door opens, a voice behind it murmuring, “Lulu, skip to my lou. Lulu, skip to my lou.” A distracted Billy walks in carrying Lauren one-handed, half sleeping across her uncle’s shoulder, and a Styrofoam cup in the other. “Lulu, skip to my lou, my darlin’…”
His cheek rests on her head and the forearm supporting Lauren’s weight bulges with muscle beneath the skin and Steve’s fucking knees feel like water.
“Can you watch the front for a few minutes?” El asks pleasantly, ignoring the shell-shocked look on Steve’s face and the intense scrutiny Robin is giving her employee.
“Sure…boss…” Billy says slowly, eyeing his former classmates suspiciously. He wants this boy’s attention really, really bad, Steve.
He suppresses a snort. In Nancy’s very succinct words – it’s all just bullshit.
---
Who let this man walk out of the house that way? Was it Buckley? Was she trying to cause a goddamn riot? Wasn’t there a law against being such a fucking tease? Malicious seduction or something?
Still mostly dressed in pajamas with his glasses hastily shoved on and his hair looking like he’d stuck his finger in an electric socket, Steve looked tired and fresh from bed, even softer and sleepier than the cardigan and khaki look at school yesterday. Billy wanted to push him down on a bed, straddle his waist and kiss him for ages. Kiss him until those heavy eyelids went from surprised to dark and glazed with lust.
“Hello, Mister H,” Lulu, his sweet saving angel, mumbles into his shoulder.
That sunny-warm smile brightens up his face again, and Billy’s heart gives a painful squeeze. “Good morning, Lauren. Are you helping Billy at work.”
“Uh-huh,” she grunts, eyes closing again. “Woke me up.”
“Aw, I’m sorry,” he says, all sympathy and sad eyes.
God, this is fucking torture. And Maxine had to go and like…give him fucking hope and shit. Jesus.
“You wanna go back and lay down in Miss Hopper’s officer, Lulu?”
“Uh-huh,” she repeats, still clinging to his shirt.
He makes his very hasty retreat, not looking at El as he passes her in the kitchen. Unfortunately, when he returns to the front counter, Steve is still there, but Buckley seems to have disappeared and he’s blushing now, maybe because the whole universe fucking hates him and then Steve is right up in his face and says “I’m just gonna get this over with, please don’t hit me-”
And then-
-his mouth, still tinged with the minty clean taste of toothpaste, so fucking soft against Billy’s lips, his long fingers lightly touching Billy’s jawline. Steve’s cheeks are cool where Billy touches them, but his mouth is burning hot. The erection he was just managing to get under control before surges to painful, insistent life in his jeans when Steve sighs and moans, large curling around the back of his neck.
Billy answers with a low groan, fingers twisting through the silky strands of his hair to hold him there – not that Steve seems keen to escape.
Breathing is a tragic necessity, though.
“Oh,” Steve exhales as Billy pulls away reluctantly, and his eyes are just as dark, just as sloe and heavy as Billy always dreamed they’d be. He’s still clinging to the front of his shirt and his mouth looks wine-red from kissing, which only makes Billy wanna kiss him more. “I’m gonna grade quizzes for a year.”

Chapter Four- Part Two
The next morning Phina woke up, still in her best friends arms. The events of yesterday still fresh in her mind, her continuing head ache getting worse because of it.
Phina taps Jonathan's cheek, "hey Jon, you need to get up."
He groans, slowly opening his eyes, "why?"
"You need to go see Will," she states, her face falling.
Jonathan nods solemnly. Phina shifts herself off of him so he can stand up. She sits up and without even asking, he throws her some of her clothes from a drawer dedicated to when she stayed the night. The clothes she was wearing were dirty from yesterday's events, her jeans stained brown from the kneeling in the dirt, and the dried blood from falling on the asphalt parking lot.
   "Thank you," she said.
He nodded, grabbing his own clothes to wear, "I'll change in the bathroom."
He gives her no time to object and walks out of the room. She stands up from his bed and starts to change her clothes. She pulls on the pair of black leggings and then the loose blue top. She looks in the mirror her eyes going towards her messy hair, using her fingers, she soothes the mess as much as she can.
Phina grabbed her leather jacket and pulles on her boots, before leaving Jonathan's room and going out to the living room, where Jonathan had just woken up Joyce.
Phina quickly noticed that Joyce had gotten little sleep, also the ax that rested on her lap. She sighed but didn't let Joyce see it. Even if Phina knew what Joyce was saying was the truth, that she wasn't imagining it, the paranoia was going to drive her mad, and could end up getting her hurt.
"Are you guys leaving soon," Phina asks Jonathan.
He nods solemnly, "yeah, you can come with if you want."
"I can't. My mom is probably having a heart attack right now, I didn't exactly tell her where I was going last night," Phina sighed.
Jonathan gave her a look but nodded, "yeah, you should probably go home. I'll call you later, ok?"
   "Ok," she nodded back.
She walked over to Joyce, giving her a tight hug before she left the Byers' house. She dreaded having to face her mother, but knew if she prolonged it anymore, she'd be in much deeper shit.
She got to the house and noticed her mom was just leaving. She groaned, thinking she was about to get an earful, but as soon as she parked and got off her bike, her mom was hugging her.
"I was worried about you last night," Karen whispers into Phina's ear.
   "I know, I'm sorry I left but..."
"No no no. I knew you went to Jonathan's, I knew you would've gone no matter what I said. I was worried about you, how you're feeling. I know how much you cared for Will, and how much you love the Byers," Karen pushes away, holding Phina at arms length, "are you ok? You can stay home if you need to. Mike is staying, you guys can comfort each other."
Phina feels the tears build up in her eyes again, "yeah, I want to stay home with Mike. Thank you mama."
Karen pulls her daughter in for another hug, sushing her as she cries. Though Phina believes Joyce about Will being alive, it didn't stop the pain of thinking she'd lost him from being there.
"You go on inside. Go talk to your brother ok?"
   "Ok."
Phina turns walks into her house, calling out to Mike, "Mike, where are you!"
   "Downstairs!"
She rushes downstairs to see her brother, Dustin, Lucas, and El. They were all sitting on the floor, El playing with the CB radio. Mike motions for her to sit next to him, and she doesn't question it.
They all sit there, staring at the radio. El concentrated on it, and little whimpering noises come through the speaker. Phina sits forward, listening closely. To her, it definitely sounded like Will.
"We keep losing signal, but you heard it right," Mike asks, looking at them.
"Yeah, I heard a baby," Lucas says.
   "What," Mike asks him, confused.
"Mike, you obviously tapped into a baby monitor, it's probably the Blackburns next door," Lucas says dully.
"Uh did that sound like a baby to you? That was Will," Mike snaps.
   "Mike..."
"Lucas you don't understand. He spoke last night, words," Mike tells him, "he was singing that weird song he loves, even El heard him!"
"Should I stay or should I go," Phina whispers, getting a nod from both Mike and El.
"Oh, well if the weirdo heard than I guess," Lucas says sarcastically.
"Are you sure you're on the right channel," Dustin asks.
"I don't think it's about that. I think, somehow, she's channeling him," Mike explains.
Phina and Dustin look at each other, "like Professor X."
Lucas gives Phina and Dustin an exasperated look, "are you actually believing this crap?"
"I don't know. I mean, do you remember when Will fell off his bike and broke his finger," Dustin asks.
"Yeah, he sounded exactly like that," Phina nods towards the radio.
Lucas looks at them, almost like he was offended, "did you guys not see what I saw? They pulled Will's body out of the water, he's dead!"
"Calm down Lucas," Phina scolds the boy.
Dustin looks down sadly, then back up, "well maybe it's his ghost, he's haunting us."
"It's not his ghost," Mike says.
"Well how do you know that," Lucas asks.
   "I just do," Mike answers.
"Then what was in that water!"
   "I don't know!"
"Hey, both of you cool it," Phina shouts, "yelling at each other ain't gonna solve anything!"
   "Sorry," they mutter.
Mike starts back up, "all I know is, Will is alive. Will is alive and he's out there somewhere, all we have to do is find him."
El starts messing around with the radio again, and Mike shakes his head, "this isn't going to work. We need to get El to a stronger radio."
Dustin lights up, "Mr Clark's Heathkit ham track."
   Mike nods, "yeah."
Lucas shakes his head, "the Heathkit is at school, there's no way we're gonna get the weirdo in without anyone noticing.... I mean, look at her."
We all look towards El, and Phina couldn't help but agree with Lucas a little bit. El didn't look like an average girl, at all. El looks at them, a little wide eyed and confused.
"I got an idea," Phina smirks.
El comes out of the bathroom, wearing one of Nancy's old pink dresses, and a blonde wig. She looked more average now, that's for sure, but Phina preferred the normal El.
Phina smiles at her little brother as he gets flustered over how El looks, calling her pretty. El goes over to a mirror in the hall, looking at her reflection.
   "Pretty.... Good," she said.
Phina smiles at her now, she was slowly becoming attached to the girl, the protective feeling she had for the boys, now extending to her as well.
Phina heard a noise and looked out the window closest to her, it was her mom.
"Shit, guys go to the basement, Mom's home," Phina shouts.
The kids all rush to the basement and Phina runs to the couch, sitting down as if she'd been there for hours.
Karen came through the door and instantly looked over at Phina, "good, you're up, I know you wanted to stay home, but the cops want to talk to you and Nancy about Barbara."
Phina sighs, "ok, let me get my shoes."
She goes down to the basement and looks at all the kids, "I have to go, when I get back, you guys need to fill me in on what happens, ok?"
   They all nod, "ok Phina."
She ruffles Dustin's hair as she walks away from them. He swats her hand away but smiles. Phina runs up the stairs and to her mom.
"Ready," she says sadly, she didn't want to talk to the cops, but she knew she had to.
They go out Karen's car and make their way to the high school.
The three Wheeler girls sat in the empty cafeteria, talking to two officers, coincidentally they're the two cops that held Phina back last night. Phina had already explained what happened before she left the party, leaving out the beers.
"So you left, while you were soaking wet? You could've froze," one of them says, officer Powell.
"I know. But the adrenaline from the anger I was feeling, well, I didn't really feel the cold, didn't think about it," Phina said, lying a little, but no one noticed, not even her mother.
The cops moved onto Nancy, getting her story from her. She got to the part of when she'd last seen Barb, they were having an argument about Nancy going up to Steve's room to get dry clothes.
"Barb wanted to leave, and I didn't. So I told her to just go," Nancy sighed.
   "Then what," Powell asks.
"Then, I went upstairs," Nancy said, "to put on some dry clothes."
"Then the next day, you two went back and saw a bear, you're thinking," Powell again asks.
Phina shakes her head, "not a bear, couldn't have been, to lanky, if it was a bear it looked like it had been starved all its life."
Nancy nods, "we don't know what it was, but I think, maybe, it took Barb. You need to check behind Steve's house and..."
"We did," the other officer stated, officer Callahan, "there's nothing there, no sign of a bear."
"And no car," Powell chimed in.
Phina looked at him, startled, "what?"
"Look. We figure Barbara came back last night, and took off somewhere else," Powell said.
Callahan then started speaking, "has she ever talked to you about running off? Leaving town maybe?"
Nancy looks at the table and shakes her head, "no. Barb wouldn't do that, ever."
"She wasn't maybe upset about the fact of you spending time with this boy? Uh, Steve Harrington?"
   "What? No," Nancy says.
"Maybe she was jealous? When she saw you go up to Steve's room," he asks.
Nancy starts to defend herself, "it wasn't like that."
   "Like what?"
She stutters slightly, "Steve and me. Where just friends. We just talked."
"Now was this before or after you changed your clothes," Callahan asked, slightly mockingly.
Phina glared at him, "what she did with Steve has nothing to do with the fact that Barb is gone. Why don't you try acting professionally and find her."

Movie Night (Milevill)
Prompt: Imagine your OT3 all trying to sit on a two-seater sofa at once to watch a film, and one of them eventually giving up and just lying across the laps of the other two. Source
Pairing: Will/Eleven/Mike, Mike/Eleven, Mike/Will, Will/Eleven
Note: You could view this as platonic Will/Eleven, but I do not. I am still 100% about gay Will but I also headcanon Eleven as nonbinary (Didn’t really have a chance to expand on that in this lil thing, just thought I’d put that out there.)
Tumblr hates formatting and I hate fixing formatting. So there ya go. This is a weird ass ship name.
Word Count: 1674
Will has been downplaying how much it’s been hurting him to watch his boyfriend and girlfriend be affectionate with one another while Will has been forced to act unaffected. It wasn’t a new act for him, but it had been somehow easier when he had been sure his feelings could only ever be one sided. At least as friends he’d known where he stood and he was fine being a good friend to them, a best friend.
Once they had gotten together, Will was left with a warring sense of happiness, dread, and longing. More longing than when he’d pined from afar. Watching them hold hands and kiss and flirt in public while Will was forced to constantly keep himself in check, even more than when he was simply hiding more than platonic feelings, terrified he’d give them away, and it started to hurt. It was so different knowing what it was like to be a part of that but only able to receive such affections when they were alone together, a rarity that could be counted on one hand. It left him insecure and his heart aching, unable to stop himself from imagining the two only agreeing to let him into the relationship out of pity or their instinctual need to protect him.
But apparently he hadn’t been as subtle as he had thought or… maybe he really wasn’t the only one affected by their forced distance. One day while Will, Mike, and Dustin had been scouring the aisles of their local comic book store, Mike had stepped up next to Will and pretended to search through a box of comics while Will had quietly scanned a comic he couldn’t afford. He had looked over at Mike and gave him a soft smile. Mike not so subtly checked over his shoulder for Dustin who had been futilely bartering with the bored cashier. Will frowned in confusion and Mike leaned in close, warm breath fanning over Will’s skin and sent blood rushing to his cheeks and his palms had grown sweaty. Will had no idea what to expect, but he definitely didn’t expect Mike to say, in a quiet shaky voice, “I think we should tell the Party about us.”
Will had stared at Mike with wide eyes and instinctively checked over his shoulder, but found no one close enough to overhear them. “What?” Will asked in disbelief. Will isn’t sure if it had been excitement or terror that had sent his heart racing at the time. Mike’s fingers had clenched where they rested on the lined up comics, crinkling the plastic slip of one of them and his eyes settled on where Will’s hands were clutching the comic he’d been reading to his chest. Mike’s brows had bowed and his gaze had been so intense it could have set Will’s hands on fire. Will thinks he might have recognized something familiar in his eyes. Mike took a deep breath.
“Me and El talked about it-,” Will had felt a pang, that sense of being left out, “-and we know… we can’t be open in public but… if we tell them, at least we wouldn’t have to hide in front of them, and yeah they might not understand, but their our best friends, they’ll get over it,” Mike rambled, Will was impressed by his ability to still be whispering, then his face had twisted with pain, “And we… we miss you, Will.”
Will had momentarily stopped breathing and he ended having to buy the comic book after the deep creases he’d left in the pages. “Really?” Will breathed. Mike had frowned and risked pressing closer so that Will’s shoulder pressed into Mike’s arm.
“Yeah, of course,” Mike replied, his voice still quiet, “It’s been rough… for both of us, and El has been a little obsessed with going through with it, but I told her we couldn’t just do that without talking to you, so… what do you think?” Will had stared up at Mike’s handsome face and took a lot of self-control not to press a kiss to one the sharp cheek bones that had revealed themselves once his baby fat melted away. In that moment he had imagined his friends turning their backs on them, telling their parents, being ostracized, or worse, by everyone around them, but he also imagines being accepted, being able to hold Mike’s hand or press a kiss to Eleven’s forehead while in the presence of his favorite people without any of them batting an eye. One scenario was much more unlikely than the other, but he ignored the part of him that told him it’s too dangerous.
“Let’s do it,” Will agreed, his voice firm and without hesitation. Mike’s sharp shoulders had still been tense with anxiety but he grinned brightly.
Its movie night for The Party, a tradition that developed ever since the Wheelers finally caved to Mike’s begging and purchased a family VCR for Christmas a few years back. It was a hard tradition to keep up with considering they had so few options at first. Re-watching the same 3 films every other week made it tough, so it was a god send when they were blessed to be one of the few towns in America to have a video rental store pop up. It rapidly became one of the top 5 places to look if you wanted to find group of 15 year olds. It opened them up to a much more pleasant existence where they didn’t have to watch Grease, again.
They alternated who picked what they watched and tonight is Max’s night. Unsurprisingly, she goes for a horror film, “Halloween”. It’s all pretty normal. They go to the store, Lucas and Dustin quietly grumble about Max’s choice like they always do when someone picks something other than sci-fi, they pick some extra snacks, and they go to the Wheeler’s house to make their popcorn and settle in for the movie. Things as usual. But they’re not. Because this is the first movie night where The Party knows about Will, Mike, and El’s relationship.
It’s been a few days since the surprisingly easy conversation. The Party didn’t fully understand, asking question after question, but the accepted. Despite that, Will still feared making his friends uncomfortable, careful with how touchy he was, especially with Mike. El made it clear very quickly that she wasn’t having any of that. The moment they were alone with their friends, she’d take his hand, kissed him, or leaned against him any chance she could like she was making up for lost time, and Will wasn’t unaware of the wigged out looks Lucas, Max, and Dustin would share, but he couldn’t find it in himself to deny her.
They have run of the house while Ted and Karen are on their ‘date night’ and Holly is with one of the parents from her new school that Karen befriended. It’s the closest thing to a real date that they’ve ever had, but Will is still wary. They go to their usual spots, El and Mike squeeze into Ted’s La-Z-Boy while the others sit on the couch with the bowl of popcorn and the snacks spread out in front of them and the FBI warning begins to play. Will sits on the end of the couch closest to the La-Z-Boy. He tries to push down that familiar sense of longing and just enjoy his friends’ company, but he found himself glancing at them frequently, quietly wondering if they felt it too. Before the movie gets into full swing, Mike and El suddenly stand, grabbing Will and hefting him up from his seat, drawing the attention of the others. Will stares at them bug eyed while they push him down onto the chair. Mike squeezes in next to him, the fit a little tighter than when it had been El and Mike.
El’s gaze is calculating as she takes in the lack of space, before she confidently plops herself down where Will and Mike’s hips are pressed together. She shifts until her legs are thrown over Will’s and the arm rest and she can lean her cheek where Mike and Will’s shoulders met. She reaches blindly over Mike and pulls the lever, springing the foot rest out. Will yelps in surprise when the chair suddenly tilts back. Mike laughs, boldly wrapping his arm around Will’s shoulders while El settles, leaning her side against them, eyes on the screen. Will meets Mike’s eyes over El’s head of curls and grins, a happy blush on his cheeks. Will’s arm is trapped and going a bit numb, so he snakes it out through the space between her and Mike’s body, wrapping it around her waist, and rests his other hand on El’s knee.
Jamie Lee Curtis is talking on the screen and Will can feel the holes his friends are practically burning into them, but all Will can think about is the happiness bubbling up in his chest. El seems fully engrossed in the film. Will turns his head, pressing his forehead to El’s, grinning. The hand on his shoulder comes up and begins mindlessly playing with the hairs at the base of his neck. He glances up and sees that Mike has his cheek resting against the back of El’s head and his other hand is lightly scratching up and down her back through her shirt, his eyes fixed on the TV, despite the curls that must be tickling his face.
“You love birds want a chocolate bar or you just gonna be gross all night?” Dustin asks without any real malice, mouth full of popcorn, breaking their little moment. The trio look at Dustin while Max and Lucas elbow him, shooting him a sharp look. “Ow! What?!” Dustin grumbles, wrapping his arms around his ribs with a glare.
“Have some tact, dude,” Lucas grumbles. Will suddenly laughs, squeezing El tighter to him, and surprising the room. El quietly laughs into her hand.
A small smile pulls at Mike’s face and he huffs, holding his hand out towards his friends, “Give me a KitKat, dude.”

Nancy shuddered and gripped her flashlight tighter, holding onto [Name]’s hand.
The latter didn’t want Nancy to come but the brunette insisted. Currently, the two were in the Upside Down, looking for the Demogorgon. After a year of peace, shit hit the fan once more and the whole shebang and they were forced into this situation once more.
Nancy stuck close to her best friend, trying to suppress the memories of being in the cold, dark place. It was just as she remembered, dim, slimy and pieces of ash floating around everywhere… at least she thought it was ash. The only difference is that [Name] was there. She was her light in the dark, the flicker of hope, the spark of courage.
In reality, the mentioned was sacred shitless. She thought Nancy was the brave one. She knew how the girl was dragged into the Upside Down and was forced to run and hide from the Demogorgon, yet, she chose to volunteer herself in order to end this once and for all. [Name] wasn’t really terrified about the thing getting to her, well maybe she was, but she was more terrified that it would get Nancy.
[Name] didn’t know when she ‘got the feelings’ but she did. She realized this in her junior year when she saw Nancy with Steve. Her heart clenched when she saw how happy Nancy was with Steve and it broke her heart. When the two broke up, the [hair color] was ecstatic, a little guilty for being selfish, but happy nonetheless. Maybe she had a chance with her. Right now, she was content that they were friends. It will happen soon anyways.
A snap of twigs coming from the far left made the two look towards that direction, their flashlights shining. Nancy had her gun pointed at the direction while [name] readied her crowbar. The second they saw the lanky, leathery body of the Demogorgon, Nancy fired her gun twice before they took of in a different direction.
The piercing screeches of the Demogorgon rang through their ears as they hurried to find the exit, ready to warn the others to get ready with the fire trap they had set up. The two never let go of each other, in fact, they seemed to have held on tighter.
“Here, here!” [Name] yelled, steering her best friend towards a cranny in a tree.
She hurried Nancy in and followed after her. Making sure Nancy was far away from the entrance of the cranny, she crouched down in front of the latter, putting her arm protectively in front of her. [Name] hushed the other girl when they heard the Demorgon’s snarls approaching.
Nancy wrapped her arms around [Name], a gloved hand over her mouth to keep quiet. [Name] pulled her close and shuffled backwards till they hit the bark of the tree. The two kept quiet, their hearts racing. They could practically feel the beats against their chests.
The Demogorgon stopped a few feet in front of the tree they were hiding in, sniffing around for the sweet smell of blood. It turned its head in all directions, its death flower of a face opening occasionally. It let out an earshattering screech and went off into a different direction.
[Name] and Nancy waited a while before the aforementioned peeked out, keeping her weapon in hand. She turned to the brunette and gave a nod before they crawled out. Before they could take another step forward, the Demogorgon pounced upon them out of nowhere, making the both of them scream. [Name] went into action and swung her crowbar into the bastard’s face, knocking it onto its back.
The [hair color] picked up Nancy and the two went sprinting towards the exit. There the Part was waiting along with Steve and Jonathan. They all jumped up when a grimy hand popped out of the bark of a large tree.
“Quick!” Max exclaimed as she took hold of the hand and pulling the owner out. Jonathan jumped in as well and helped her pull.
Out from the entrance of the Upside Down was [Name] who fell forward, scrambling up to her feet to pull Nancy out. She fell out and on top of [Name].
“Set it on fire!” Nancy yelled at Steve who promptly flicked his lighter and threw it on the trap set out at the entrance.
At the same time, Jane (El) raised her hands to close the entrance, focusing all her energy at the rift. That moment, the Demogorgon stuck its head out and Jane worked harder to close the entrance. The Demogorgon screeched as it felt itself get caught between the mending bark of the tree and the fire. It was forced to fall back into the Upside Down, letting Jane close up the entrance for good.
She stumbled a little from the effort, Mike immediately catching her. [Name] stood up and helped Nancy off the ground. She offered her a small smile along with a squeeze to the hand, a silent sign of reassurance. The brunette simply hugged her, grateful that they were both alive.
“Hey…” [Name] greeted gently. She took a seat beside Nancy as they all cooled down in the Byers’ household, the place a mess once more. “How are you holding up?”
Nancy took the cup of water [name] had offered with shaking hands. “Honestly..? I’m glad we made it out in one piece but…” She shook her head, her eyes snapping shut. “God, that place really brought back a lot of memories…”
[Name] laid an arm across her friend’s shoulders and rubbed her arm in a comforting manner. “Do you want to talk about it?”
Nancy took a while to respond but she nodded slowly. “I felt as if that this was it… that I’m not going to be saved anymore… I felt as if it was going to take me like it did back then and…” A tear fell from her cheek as she started crying into her hands.
[Name] hushed her gently, bringing her arms around her and pulling her close. The brunette’s arms encircled the other as she buried her face into her shoulder. [Name] carded her fingers through Nancy’s hair, her hand running down her back as she laid her head atop Nancy’s- anything to let her know that she was safe.
“Shhh, shh… I’m here Nance, I’m here…” [Name] rubbed small shapes onto Nancy’s back. “I promise you, nothing will get you. You’re safe in my arms, I’ll protect you, I swear.” She gently pulled away from Nancy and brushed away the tears with the pad of her thumb. “I promise you Nancy Wheeler, with every fiber of my being, I will not let anything hurt you. Look at me.
Nancy stared up with her round blue eyes into the [eye colored] ones of her friend. She took hold of her friend’s wrists as she felt her cup her cheeks.
“You’re safe with me Nancy.” [Name] continued. “Trust me.”
It was now or never. She took a deep breath and…
“I love you.”
It was barely even a whisper, if you didn’t listen carefully you would miss it. But Nancy heard.
Nancy looked up at her. She didn’t know what came over her but she found herself leaning forward, brushing her lips against [Name]’s. And a split second later they were kissing. There were no fireworks no, but a tall wall crumbling to the ground in ruins.
The kiss was soft, sweet, passionate. [Name] pulled Nancy close, cupping her cheek in her hand and brushing away the tears that fell. The latter on the other hand held onto the former for dear life, clutching her jacket between her gloved fingers. When the [hair color] pulled away, Nancy chased after her lips, still not ready to part.
“I’ll take it that you feel the same..?” [Name] chuckled lightly as she pressed her forehead against the other’s.
Nancy merely smiled, moving to nuzzle into her neck. “I love you so much, [Nickname]…”
“I love you most, Nancy Wheeler. And remember, I’ll always be here for you.”
That night, when the two rested up to prepare for the next day, they have never felt more powerful with each of them at their sides.

Warnings: Angst, angst and MORE angst
Part 6/9?
Word count: 2.2k
Summery: Sometimes things just don’t go as planned and your world just come crashing down, but it’s a good thing that you have people in your life to be there to catch you when you fall.
><
Upon arriving at home, ice cream in hand, you kicked off your shoes. Before going to the couch you stopped in the kitchen and grabbed the bottle of whiskey that was on the counter.
You plop down on the couch and get comfortable, grabbing the remote off of the side table you turn the TV. You spend the night watching whatever comes on the small box at the front of your room, overindulging in ice cream and whiskey, knowing damn well you’ll wake up with a hangover in the morning.
The sound of a car engine and headlights wakes you up from your sleep causing you to groan in annoyance. You get up and go over to the window to see none other than Joyce carrying your dad out of her car.
You open the door and run down the steps of the cabin to the car to offer some help. Once you guys get Hopper settled in on the couch, she starts to tell you about everything that has happened to them. How her magnets have been falling off of the fridge and that there might be a giant magnetic machine that’s causing them to fall off of her fridge and how she thinks that it’s all related to the lab.
“Wait a minute, the lab? As in Hawkins Lab? I thought they closed everything off, and filled all the holes and what not.”
“They did, all of the holes are filled. But we were sitting there, just talking and then everything just happened so fast and all at once. Someone else was there, trying to prevent us from snooping around.. It’s like they were..”
“Hiding something..” you finished her sentence deep in thought. You were thinking about everything that has been happening recently.
Dustin, Robin and Steve intercepting a ‘Secret Russian code?’, El sensing that something was wrong with Billy, and now this? Was it all tied together?
“And then your dad, of course had to go do something about it and got into this fight with some guy riding a motorcycle. So I uh, brought him back here to fix him up.”
You nodded your head and let her do her thing and work on hopper, cleaning the gash on his head and making sure he didn’t puke anywhere or anything. So with that you went to your room and fell asleep with ease, thanks to the alcohol.
><
The house was quiet, except for the phone ringing off the hook. Who ever they were had been calling for the last 30 minutes and weren’t giving up. You would think that they would get the hint.
You rush out of your room to answer the phone with annoyance,
“Can I help you?” you ask rather loudly
“Y/N, This is Mike. Something happened, something bad. Our lives could be at stake.”
“What are you talking about?”
“Go get El and Max, they turned off their walkies. Just come over to my house and we’ll explain everything.”
“What?”
“Hurry.”
And then the line goes dead. You figured that this probable was extremely important, connecting all of the dots from last night. You jump in the shower, throw some clothes on and head to Max’s house to pick up the girls.
><
Once you got to the Wheeler’s house, Will tells you all that he had been having bad feelings recently. You sit there and listen to them all talk about it. About the Mind Flayer.
“I’ve felt it before, whenever he was close.”
Max obviously seems confused, “Whenever who is close?”
“The Mind Flayer.” You say with a dazed look on your face, thinking about everything that has happened in the last two years. You shake your head to try to get rid of the thoughts and tune back in to their conversation.
But you just can’t seem to focus on anything, they then start talking about the Mind Flayer attaching itself to someone, and how you can tell if someone is a host. El and Max give each other a knowing look. You look at the two with an arched eyebrow but face filled with worry.
“You don’t think it’s..”
><
The next thing you know you’re all piling into your truck and headed to the pool, once again.
The kids pile out of the truck and start talking about Billy and how he looks normal but not normal enough. The boys run off and go into the men’s locker room to talk about who knows what. But they come out and tell you their plan.
The plan was to get Billy into the sauna, trap him in there, and blast the heat to see if anything happens. It was a scary concept but it would get you the information you needed to know.
As much of an asshole as Billy had been over the last few days- no weeks, you really hoped that it wasn’t him.
While the others were gathering some supplies, you and Max stood at the car to watch Billy.
“Max, can I ask you something?”
“Yeah, of course.” she said while using the binoculars to look at Billy.
“Do you think that this is just one big sign? I mean he’s been kind of asshole-ish recently and hasn’t really wanted to be around me as much. I mean even before all of this Mind Flayer stuff.”
She just kind of stood there staring off at Billy, and she shrugged.
“It could be, he’s always been a grade A asshole to me so I don’t know. You know I love you a lot, and you’re the older sister I’ve never had, but I’ve always thought you deserved better. You deserve someone who’s gonna make time to see you, to spend time with you. To make you feel like you’re good enough, someone who’s always gonna take care of you. To be there for you with open arms and to make you laugh harder than your stomach can handle.” she says finally turning to look to you with this sort of ‘all knowing’ look in her eyes and a smirk on her face, “Maybe someone who has a big heart, 6 kids and a head full of floppy of brown hair?”
You blush as roll your eyes and cross your arms, sending a glare her way.
“Max, it’s not like that. He’s my best friend, that’s it.”
“That’s what your mouth says.” she says with the same smirk on her face.
You nudge her with your elbow and she goes back to looking at Billy through the binoculars,
“God I hope it’s not you, I really hope it’s not you.”
><
Later that night, after everything was set up in place, it was time to initiate, the ‘Sauna Test’. The six of you stood behind a wall waiting for everything to fall into place, and boy was it a scary time. You hear Mike taunting him and Billy does not seem enthused about it.
When Billy walks into the sauna, El walks out right behind him. She sends him flying into the wall and slams the door closed with her powers. The boys put the locks and restraints on the door and you all stand in a group away from the door.
“Do it” Max says
They turn the heat on and Billy starts freaking out and yelling, then the next thing you know he’s on the floor crying pleading for help and saying that its not his fault. Max goes to walk up towards the door, but you hold an arm out in front of her so she can’t go.
Instead, you walk up to the door.
“What’s not your fault Billy?”
“I’ve done things Y/N, really bad things. I don’t mean to, he made me do it.”
“Who did baby? Who made you do it?”
Seeing Billy in this kind of state made your heart break, it wasn't very often that you got to see this vulnerable side of him. Tears started forming in your eyes.
“I don’t know, it’s like a shadow. A giant shadow. Please babe.”
Max then appears next to you looking in at her older brother.
“What did he make you do?”
“It’s not my fault, okay? Max please!” he cries out in what seemed like pain.
You look over to Max who had tears streaming down her face. She doesn’t deserve to be seeing this, you wrap an arm around her and pull her in close. She tries reassuring him that everything is gonna be okay and that he needs to just talk to us and we can get it all worked out.
“Guys, get away from the door” you hear from behind you
“What?” you say in confusion
“GET AWAY FROM THE DOOR!” Mike yells as Billy smashed his head through the glass of the sauna door.
You push Max away as Billy grips onto your wrist and starts twisting.
“LET ME OUT YOU BITCH! LET ME OUT!”
As he finished that sentence Lucas launches a rock, hitting billy in the forehead sending him back to the ground. The two of you scurry back over to the rest of the group as all of the lights start flashing. Similar to how the lights were flashing at the Byers’ house a few years prior, while fighting the demogorgon with Steve, Nancy and Jonathan.
“Guys, this isn’t good, this really isn’t good..”
You hear Billy yell, and you all turn back to face him and he’s got black veins covering his entire body. You stood in front of the 5 teens, in hopes to try to protect them if necessary.
Billy suddenly broke down the door and came tumbling onto the ground in front of you. You stuck your arms out to the side and push the kids back behind you as far as you could in those short seconds. El then pushed around your side and took her place in between you and Billy.
Using her powers, she lifted one of the weights in the room and sent it and Billy flying into the wall behind them. Hoping to maybe choke him out, but the Flayed Billy was stronger than her powers.
He pushed the bar away and walked over to El, who was now on the floor. He grabbed her hair and yanked her up then picked her up by her throat, choking her.
“BILLY NO! LET GO OF MY SISTER YOU ASSHOLE!” you yelled with all your might as you slammed into him trying to knock him out of the way and maybe drop your sister. Which worked for the most part but was now focused on you. Mike had run over to El to help her back up onto her feet.
You turned around to grab the pole that was holding the door in place, and went to swing at Billy but he grabbed it and sent it flying across the room almost hitting Will, Max and Lucas. Who were all watching with scared eyes.
Billy started walking towards you and had you backed into the corner of the room when he suddenly was levitating in the air. El walked around him to stand in front of you and screamed as she send Billy through the wall.
She then collapsed into your arms and began crying out of pure exhaustion.
“Hey, hey, hey sh sh sh. It’s okay, you’re okay.” You said while rubbing her head and holding her tight against you.
Mike and Lucas comes over to the two of you and help you up off of the ground. You then walk over to the hole in the wall where Billy had just gone through and look out in horror.
“What the hell.”
><
You all pile back up in the truck and take all of the boys back to the Wheeler’s and then take the girls back to the cabin. Once you pulled into the drive way your heart started beating really fast and you felt like your couldn’t breathe, you then instantly broke down into tears. Max and El looked at each other then looked at you with worried eyes.
“I’m fine, I’m fine.” you say wiping your eyes as you get out of the car.
You walk in the cabin and came crashing down onto the couch face down, letting out a loud groan. Panic attacks at its finest.
“I wish Steve was here” you say into the couch, your voice muffled by the cushions, not thinking about the girls still being in the room. There’s a long pause,
“He’d know what to do..” another pause, followed by a sigh.
“Tomorrow will be better. I work with Steve and he’ll keep my mind off of things, he always does.”
El and max give each other a look and small smiles fall onto their faces. Every one knew, except you.
