Question: What do these...
Tumblr media
have in common with...
Tumblr media
these?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Initially this was gonna be a simple topic on my mind to ramble about, but I guess with the latest words from a soft gaming executive hitting the community in 2024 I now have more of a need to talk about this than ever. It's funny how gaming over the past couple decades went from something rather simple and expressive to complicated and, admittedly, dull in some areas. Wait did I say funny, I meant "completely baffling" and the worst of it, imo anyways, comes from this pretty egregious push towards a digital only future we're seeing, with no consideration for physical media, storage space, possible alternative formats to use, or even us gamers wanting to actually possess and own our games. Yeah we live in an age where media is offered to us in such convenient ways, but with gaming it is a whole other beast entirely and as such it requires a different way of thinking in regards to convenience. Thinking that needs to address some of the issues I have with what's presented to us nowadays, starting with...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Video games back then were pretty small in comparison to the massively large scale stuff we've seen these past couple generations, with every gen growing further and further to reach this point. However with that came this rapid race to pushing out not just the biggest of games, but the most visually stunning games as well...sort of. While there have been plenty of games that went for gorgeous stylized looks and graphical effects there have been way more games that aimed for graphics so realistic and lifelike, it resulted in detailed effects and textures that likely took up a ton of file space. Listen, I don't mind if a game looks great, but if the game's high resolution graphics and such are why it ends up with anywhere over 100GB of data to store then clearly we have a problem. I get it, 4K and 8K resolutions are indeed a thing, but to be honest it is not that much of a necessity in the grand scheme.
The overwhelming file size isn't just cause of graphics either, lack of optimization is just as prevalent and boy does it show. Okay sure, devs have to work under a deadline, gotta get as much of those release day sales as possible, but if optimizing a game to scale down the file size and keep it looking good and performing smoothly is a hassle, then maybe something has to give in order to make it easier to manage. Ya gotta know what's best to prioritize if you want the gaming experience feel fun for the player and save space for more, ya know?
Tumblr media
Remember how simple storing game data was, where all you had to worry about was simply having a memory card was all you needed to keep your progress and you had the choice to buy or rent a game to pop in your system? That's what my question earlier was about, stuff like SD cards, flash drives, SSDs and HDDs all store data like the memory cards of old, however there is one difference: the latter mostly stored save data and occasionally DLC for some consoles, the former can fully store games.
After the 7th Generation there definitely was a push towards being able to play games digitally but imo it always felt sloppily done even to this day, unless you played on PC where everything had a designated file directory you could set up of course. For consoles sure you only had to buy an SD card or SSD for extra storage, but it didn’t practically feel like a requirement until games started taking up more and more space. Add onto that the save data, update patches and loads of DLC, and you're piling on more and more files to keep track of with every game you get. That hits even more when you realize that the you fill up more space buying digitally than physically, though nowadays that applies more to Nintendo Switch owners since Playstation and Xbox have treated physical copies like glorified installer discs since the 8th Generation.
Tumblr media
Speaking of installer discs I should probably talk about the physical side of gaming, since now there's more of a prevalent discussion amongst the gaming community going on. I've always wondered why out of all the Big 3 in gaming, it was Nintendo that kept it mostly right on what format to use for games and how to store it, especially now. They had cartridges down to a science from the NES to the N64 (the handheld scene was well done too), their disc based systems were touch and go with the Wii being their best one, and when it came to the Switch they didn't follow the trend at all and went "cartridges are fine enough for what we're doing," kudos. I say all this because, for the most part anyway, all of the base game that gets released on Switch is in the cartridge, leaving you extra room for DLC and some digital games that may not take as much space in your storage. That's something I appreciated way more than one would think, as it let me pick and choose what games were worth buying physically and what won't eat up my SD card space, something I feel is greatly missing elsewhere to be honest.
Granted I know cartridges are probably more expensive to manufacture but it's clear the gaming industry wants to shy away from DVD/Blu-Rays as the years go by, however I do wish there was some consideration for not just cartridges, but other physical ways to store games and reduce all the clutter. SD cards are as abundant as can be and come in various capacities, I wouldn't think it'd be too hard to make great use of that and solely store games and DLC in em (shoot Sony themselves toyed with SD card-sized cartridges with the Vita before, they could've tried that format again without the Vita's failures weighing em down). A single SSD could potentially store those 100s of gigabytes that one game had and they're just as readily available to produce too, imagine a system that contained a slot for you to plug one in that had the game ready to boot anytime and could store any extra content.
The options are right there and they'd be great logical next steps in how to sell physical copies of video games, or any media for that matter, but man it's crazy how unnoticed they've gone. I just wish it were given some thought and considered at least.
Tumblr media
I cannot for the life of me understand why anyone would dare say that gamers need to feel comfortable not owning their games, that is perhaps the biggest slap in the face to anybody who picks up a controller old and new. For decades it was pretty much an unspoken agreement between the gaming industry and the gaming community that we buy their games and thus we owned em until we either traded it, gave it away or sold it simple as that, but nowadays (since this past decade even) the industry has gotten bold. Between scummy business practices, horrible business mindsets and finding any which way they can to screw people over, it's disrespecting to the very essence of why we play video games.
Now I'm not gonna trash the very notion of digital gaming as a whole, it's here to stay and has been for a long time, but I cannot and will not accept it being the only way we play games when having the options and balance of choosing between it and physical titles in a better format is a perfectly fine way to go whenever we wanna buy a game.
The more limitations and restrictions you place on gaming and the more shenanigans you cause the more likely people are to relent against the industry, and when people relent well...
Tumblr media
Hey, a service issue is a service issue is all I'm saying, there are definitely people out there who won't mind the high seas if push comes to shove.

Deeply considering projecting my computer to the TV to play BG3 on a bigger screen and also while lounging on couch.
Do desperately need to figure out how to connect Bluetooth headphones to TV as it will also save money on the weird TV headphones I was buying my mom that connected to the cable box but I think have been phased out and are now like very fucking expensive maybe just aren’t even compatible anymore. Like. I don’t think the last ones I bought could even connect. And shit got weird so suddenly and then I think I just forgot about them.
Either way I suck at hearing the TV so like. Headphones. But technically I can do PC gaming on the TV if I can get screen share working probably.
One day I should try and see about that. It would be cool.
I need to get past my issues with the basement, I have a really good space for gaming in the basement if I can get past my anxiety about being in the basement and it would lend me a lot of privacy. It used to be my favourite place where I was most comfortable.
There’s new furniture and stuff down there, and I had a really good TV last I checked, if it still works. With some proper cable management and maybe a new shelf I would probably be able to set up my systems well enough. I think maybe I can start working a little bit on moving past my feelings about downstairs with a different room downstairs. It would be the living room instead of the old bedroom. And I have a new couch finally so it would be different. I think I can run the air purifier and dust and stuff and maybe get a scent diffuser and I won’t trigger my allergies or PTSD. And maybe a lamp instead of the fluorescent lights won’t trigger a migraine. That just occurred to me as something I never thought of. The basement has fluorescent tube lightbulbs. Old ones. I have a migraine disorder. Old flickering fluorescent lights installed by amateurs absolutely could have contributed to part of my discomfort in the basement. That’s something that can maybe be fixed by renovating. I need to seek advice from someone who can identify lighting. Hell yeah. They might even be making a sound that makes me anxious and fixing that will help but that’s probably wishful thinking lmao.
I do just also want more lamps in general because mid level lighting for avoiding staying while addressing pain is something I really need to cope with right now…migraines are a bitch man.

Hello! So, this time I'm kinda looking for opinions on one theory I have about "fixing" something. So, if you have any other idea apart from my theory, everything is welcome.
I am basically having this problem where my game keeps crashing and I could always fix it. But this time I'm trying everything I can and there's no way. I mean, there's one way left but it's basically taking out some CC, sorting it out. But that's already not an option for me cause I had already done that before installing. The thing is, I had about the same amount of CC as you (30gb) sims3pack + packages. Recently, I installed some new CC (clothes and objects as simspack and 3-5 new mods from MTS) and now everything has gone up to 35gb. (28gb being on DCcache, sims3pack basically). So my game up until now has runned fine, with it's lags and crashes here and there but everything normal. Y'know, after a while of playing it crashes. Sure, that's okay. But now I'm trying to play in the save file I'm always playing. With it's Nraas register, overwatch, master controller settings, and other mods to make it run better. The only thing is that I'm not able to play for maybe more than 5 minutes on my main household. I also have other households on the same savefile. That's because I like to play rotationally and have my own sims as townies so my savefiles get big and heavy just because of that and not generations. And so here comes the problem. The crashing always ocurs in less than five minutes in any household living in a house the same size or bigger than a medium sized lot. I'm aware that even though this didn't happend before at all and I could perfectly play on them for hours, I have installed new CC on my game.
This is where my theory comes in, and where I could really use some opinions couse I'm really lost. I admit that what's causing this is well... Me, pushing my game to load more content. But bear with me, I had been wanting to buy a better graphics card for my PC. Mainly for sims 3, but I'm scared it's gonna do nothing. I have a laptop which, I have brought up before in this Tumblr, and in this laptop it doesn't matter how many cc and mods the game has,(maybe nothing at all) it's always gonna crash eventually. With vanilla sims, it crashes after 3 hours of playing. BUT, the game runs super smooth and waaay better than in the PC even with 35gb of CC. This is because it's basically a MSI gamer latptop from last year. i7, with 32gb of ram and a very good graphics card which I don't remember right now. But it's basically 75 times better than the PC's Nvidia GeForce 1050 ti In a 0-100% scale. (PC is an i3 and has 16gb RAM, which is a really good but,✨ sims 3✨ xd) I'm not gonna buy one like the laptop cause is really expensive but I was thinking about something in between if my game could run as close as good as in the laptop. The thing is I'm really confused because I'm really scared that even if I buy a new one, the PC could still crash at this problem I have just like the laptop crashes in seconds, that's why I brought it up. I don't want a smooth game if it's still gonna crash :')
I know my PC well, it doesn't crash inadvertently like the laptop, if I play vanilla sims no way it's crashing in 3hours. With CC it's very possible, but not vanilla. I have checked how much memory utilisizes and it's 7-8 gb of memory. out of 16, that's good, it's not bad. But again, it crashes at this houses outta nowhere. I now a solution is to avoid playing in these, but there's no way now I gotta make smaller ones when I have been playing in these for so many years. So there ya go. I could really use some advice as to what should I do about the graphics card thing, if it's better for me to get a CPU or what. Not both, that's a lot of money,I know both are important for gaming, but I can't afford it. Sorting out my CC it's not an option I already do that all the time, I clean my save to 36-40 mb with save cleaner and I convert everything I can to sims3pack because Packages make my game impossible to play. But I'm definitely not getting rid of my downloads folder 😅
Hii!!
Okay so, my advice: 1. Your save file is probably massive by now and its just too much for the game, I would check if its a memory issue (aka watch your memory as you play as sims can only go up to 3.6GB). I would also check other saves as if they work this is likely it 2. Definitely stop installing things as sims3pack, those things are awful. Just for shits and giggles remove your DCCache folder and see if it works then. 3. I am guessing you used save cleaner, s3mo/cc magic and all that jazz 4. No GPU or CPU is going to save you here sadly. I7 is a good CPU already. And laptop is never going to be as good as PC (my opinion) as it can never pull as much power as a PC. 5. Really all you can do is play a smaller world, less sims, kill off townies, and less decorated houses. Wish I could help but sims just is a 32bit program and nothing we do is going to fix that sadly!

It was time to move my Animal Crossing: New Leaf Nintendo 3DS XL to greener pastures. I've had the console since summer 2013 and I love it dearly. The right hinge has had a small hairline crack on it for a couple of years at least. It has slowly expanded to a point where the hinge is about snap and fall apart completely. The device still works just fine, the only problem being slightly shortened battery life that isn't an issue for me.
This console has been accompanying me for nearly 10 years, for over 6000 hours of playtime (124 titles) and 9 515 263 steps - it was with me in the hospital too when I got a blood transfusion.  The ACNL 3DS XL is the favorite out of my consoles, the other Animal Crossing editions I own aren't as nice visually and they don't feel as good when using them so I was hesitant to move on.  The last game I finished on it was Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney a couple of weeks ago.
So a week ago on Sunday I did a system transfer to my Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer New 3DS XL before it's too late. I had a bad feeling before starting the system transfer process - if something can go wrong with technology, it usually happens to me. My gut feeling was right. It was a system transfer from hell. Fasten your seatbealts and get ready for an epic story of drama and suspense.
First I was about to get a heart attack when the new console took several minutes in "connecting to the internet" near the end of the system transfer process. This is the part where the source system had just formatted itself to factory settings and the target system had probably received the Nintendo Network ID related data from the source system and was maybe checking it against Nintendo's servers. I was really worried something went wrong and I'd be left with two devices that neither have access to my Nintendo account. I was so relieved it finally connected and proceeded to the next step.
The next step was shutting down both systems and copying the source system's memory card data to PC. That went without a hitch. But then it was time to copy the source system's memory card data to a new Micro SD card that would go into the target system to finalize the process. The old system had a 32 GB SDHC and I had a 32 GB Micro SDHC for the new system. I had formatted the new memory card as per Nintendo's instructions and suddenly Windows tells me the card doesn't have enough capacity to copy the contents of the old memory card onto it. What???! That's when I realize the files on the old card took 29.7 GB and the new so-called 32 GB card's capacity was only 28.8 GB. No one told me this could happen!
Oh my effing god! I'm in the middle of a system transfer where I have 10 years worth of save data, a good amount of eShop and 3DS Theme Shop purchases and now I'm unable to finalize the system transfer! I can't go back to the old console and I can't start using the new one. It was Sunday and I couldn't go buy a new memory card anymore in the evening when this occurred.  I was so devastated and stressed out about this incidence that I couldn't even sleep that night (had 2-3 hours of sleep). I went through all the worst case scenarios in my head at night and had no appetite the next day.
Nintendo's own documentation states 3DS is only compatible with SDHC of up to 32 GB. So if all memory cards I can get do not have enough capacity, how will I be able to finish the system transfer? We did some research with my husband and found out that Micro SDXC cards of larger capacity would also work on a 3DS as long as you manage to format it to FAT32. So on Monday we bought a new 32 GB Micro SDHC and a 64 GB Micro SDXC to try our luck with. Turns out the 32 GB card's actual capacity was even smaller than the earlier card's, so no go with that. Btw, it should be illegal to state a card's capacity is 32 GB when it's nearly 4 gigs less in reality.  We found a guide on how to format the 64 GB card to the correct file system format on Windows and my husband did it for me on his PC. Ok, so far so good. Fingers crossed...
I copied the required files to the new formatted card on my PC and it was time to insert it to the New 3DS XL. Would it work? I was so afraid and at the same time hopeful. I booted the console and it appeared to be connecting to the internet again to verify something. And it was a success! I saw the Legend of Legacy theme and heard its music, saw all the software icons, Badge Arcade badges on the home screen - just like they had been on the old console. I was so happy I almost cried!
So after some complications and immense stress the system transfer was successful and the story got a happy ending. My life expectancy was probably reduced by 10 years though. I still feel sad about the fate of my trusty 3DS XL but I'm sure I'll learn to like the New 3DS XL over time.

Baldur's Gate 3
Baldur's Gate was my first-ever PC game. I came home with a shiny new PC a coworker built for me, and stopped at Best Buy to pick up the MicroProse Magic the Gathering game and Baldur's Gate. The game was positively mind blowing. It used AD&D rules (my first tabletop system) it had gorgeous isometric graphics, and FIVE (5) discs. Console gaming had nothing like it.
Tumblr media
5 years later I was burned out on the genre* and maybe the rest of the world was too, because that style of game stopped being made. Years later when Pillars of Eternity, Tyranny, and Divinity Original Sin came along, I spent time with each but was never truly enamored with them. I figured that, like RTS games, Metallica, and kart racers, CRPG's were something I used to like.
So when Baldur's Gate 3 released in early access, I largely ignored it. I'm not going to spend time playing an unfinished story-centric game, and even if I did? I haven't finished One of These in some 20 years. It's a bad bet.
Tumblr media
However.
I'm like an alcoholic that drives past every bar in town every day. I listen to video game podcasts, and I talk games with friends. A couple of friends' enthusiasm for the game was infectious and, near release, Larian Studios announced that they were upgrading standard preorders to the Deluxe Edition for free. Well, if I ever do want the game I'll want the deluxe edition, and I can get that upgrade for FREE now? I'm basically losing money if I don't buy it. Right?
Buy it I did, and I was immediately hooked. I even spent an eternity in the character creator,** mostly debating my race and class. I get major FOMO with games like this. I want to see everything there is, and that's just not possible. I can't pick every lock AND smooth talk every conversation AND be a follower of every god, and so on. I finally settled on a Tiefling Warlock, a patron of The Great Old Ones.
Tumblr media
Oh Aremon. I have so much I need to warn you about. But alas, I cannot.
It turns out there's a lot more than your character and class keeping you from seeing everything Baldur's Gate 3 has to offer. The game gives you an incredible amount of freedom. The studio touted the game's "17,000 endings" which seems nonsensical. After putting a hundred hours into the game I can believe it now. There are choices and events - big and small - whose outcomes ripple out into what feels like an ocean of possibilities.
Tumblr media
The game reacts to everything you do. I've played a few saves and have friends playing their own campaigns, and the way we swap Baldur's Gate 3 stories feels like the old days on the playground. "Oh, you saved the druid grove? Well I heard you can assassinate the leader and there's a war and the whole GROVE is basically destroyed! Billy says he went and saved their missing leader and Susie says she helped an evil Drow elf raid the grove and burn it down!"
Susie that bitch.
Tumblr media
And that's all true. Every action you take, every quest you follow through on or ignore, every area you miss altogether - these all have tendrils that spread out and touch every other thing in the game. It feels like there's a DM with a folders full of wrinkled papers of hastily scrawled notes alongside their binder of carefully written world lore that the players may never see.
The story revolves around mindflayers, opening with your character being restrained and infected with a gruesome parasite. It's a pretty good impetus to set you off on a quest to get that teethy little tadpole out of your head. No one needs to tell you that the kingdom is in danger, you have your own personal stakes in the form of unwelcome parasite in your brain. You can just watch that opening cutscene again if you need reminding of the situation's urgency. *shudder*
Tumblr media
Or, perhaps not. Maybe this tadpole gives you cool powers. If one tadpole is good, more must be better!
Right?
As of now I am into chapter 3, exploring the titular city of Baldur's Gate, and I have no idea how this is all going to play out.*** The shades of grey and the way the game subverts expectations speaks to the quality of its writing. Dungeons and Dragons is some 50 years old now. Creative works carry the world view of their makers - hopes, fears, sense of justice, and prejudices are all along for the ride. They HAVE to be.
Tumblr media
It's a black and white world where the monsters are evil and the heroes are heroic. The black skinned Drow are born evil and cruel, orcs are wild, savage, dumb, and violent. Mind flayers are cruel, thriving on enslaving others for their own ends. Thankfully the writers have gone outside the tired stereotypes pretty often with Baldur's Gate 3.
It makes me happy that I have a female Tielfing demonic barbarian who is somehow big hearted and vulnerable while also being powerful and kickass. My cleric is worships Shar, goddess of darkness. She's not necessarily evil per se, but she's definitely not about holy water and rays of holy light shining down from above.
Tumblr media
And those mind flayers? Maybe they're not so bad. Not all of them. Some of my best friends are mind flayers! Or maybe that's my tadpole parasite thing speaking. I've met monsters who were not monsters at all. It's a lot of shades of grey and I DIG that.
The game gives you some weighty choices. I've had a handful of moments where I had to sit back and ponder for a few minutes, and these usually involve my party members. Each party member I've recruited (I have missed a few that I know of also) has been wonderfully written and voice acted. They each carry their own baggage and their own backstory that they will eventually share with you. We're all in the same parasitic boat together, but we each have our own demons.****
Tumblr media
I have a vampiric theater kid, a spunky demon lady, a melancholy mage, a heroic warlock, an emo cleric, and a fearsome warrior traveling with me. Well, had. I ended up killing one of them when their morals went too far off the rails for me. It's not a choice I made lightly and I do not regret it. My friends have had their stories play out differently. The world reacts to your decisions and so do your party members. They're not just blank ciphers to blindly follow in whatever you do. They'll make their opinions known up to the point of leaving or even attacking you. I've seen their stories play out in very different ways based on who was in my active party at the time of a key story event.
Video game stories are very hit or miss for me. With RPG's I'm usually there for the combat and systems as much as the story. Baldur's Gate 3's main story is engaging and kept me invested from start to finish. Every party companion felt like a fully fleshed out character who I wanted to learn more about and hear more from. Even some of the game's side plots were engaging - one involving a hag comes to front of mind. There's just so damn much DETAIL here, and none of it feels extraneous. The developers have clearly played a lot of Dungeons & Dragons, they know the sorts of things players want to do, and they made a game that says "Yes, actually you CAN do that" surprisingly often.
Tumblr media
That freedom extends to the game's combat as well. You can throw objects, ignite pools of oil or alcohol, electrify water, push people off ledges, and on and on. My concern was that I'd get overwhelmed like I did with Larian's previous game Divinity Original Sin 2, but the combat threads the needle of being challenging without typically being overly long (spending an hour plus in combat only to lose and have to start over feels bad).
I can't close this review without mentioning that Larian did a great job replicating the act of rolling a die, a key component of tabletop games. The die clatters about and settles on its number in a satisfying way, and the excitement of a natural 20 on a long shot or the deflation of a crummy roll are intact here in this digital translation. The game handles luck streaks too - there's an option called Karmic Dice that you can toggle in the system menu, which prevents long runs of bad die rolls. After all, the dice add some welcome randomness but they should never play a huge role in determining how things play out.
Tumblr media
The inspiration system is also wonderful - the game grants characters an "inspiration point" that can be spent on a reroll either in combat or in a skill check. These points are earned by essentially roleplaying your characters; smooth-talking Astarion will get inspiration points whenever you lie, persuade, or otherwise bullshit your way through a situation while no-nonsense bruiser Lae'zel is inspired whenever you mop the floor with foes in battle. The game is full of these thoughtful little touches.
The game writes a LOT of checks in the opening act, and somehow manages to cash them all. Choices you've made, people you've helped or hurt or ignored will come back around to you in the final act. Major events will play out wildly differently based on who is in your adventuring party. When it came down to the end, I made choices that felt right for the people in my party. It felt more like an ensemble cast rather than my character being the star of the show and everyone else supporting him. I'm writing this the morning after finishing the game, and I'm debating whether to reload my final save to see how other options play out. On one hand, I'm curious; on the other, it feels like the ending I got was my canonical ending, and playing tourist with it would feel dishonest.
Tumblr media
As someone who hasn't seriously played D&D since 3rd edition (and not at all with the 5th edition ruleset used in Baldur's Gate 3) I'm not sure which elements are from the tabletop and which are unique to the video game. All I know is that, while no videogame can wholly replicate the experience of spending a Saturday afternoon at a table rolling dice, talking in bad accents, and poring over rulebooks and character sheets with friends, Baldur's Gate 3 does a better job than any game before it. *After Icewind Dale, Icewind Dale II, Planescape: Torment, and Baldur's Gate 2 **At least 15 minutes! ***I've since finished the game ****Figurative and otherwise

I know this is random but you've always been so kind about listening so...
It... shouldn't really be a luxury to buy new, matching furniture that won't need to be replaced for a good few decades when you first move out. Not even necessarily all your furniture, just some of the most-used pieces. To have enough room for a small kitchen table, a couch, a few bookshelves, and space on your wall to hang clumsy art you make yourself.
To have a decent wardrobe where you can replace clothes when they wear out, to be able to affoed to do laundry, to have clothes last a good few years and be comfortable and fit (especially for me as a fat autistic person TT), to have like... a small section of "nice" stuff from mall stores that you didn't even have to buy on clearance, and the rest to come from consignment and thrift stores and a few from walmart if necessary (I know, I hate the corp but the clothes are comfy, well made, and actually have decent plus sized ranges -_-).
And after that to still have enough to buy nice things that you like - whether saving up for a gaming system or PC, having a fund for car maintenance if you live in a place where it's necessary, to be able to get books or dice or dolls or board games or other little collection things at a steady and not overly consumerist pace, to have space to put them...
And before even that to not have to eat plain rice for half a month when you have disordered eating patterns due to sensory issues, but to always have enough of safe foods to be able to meal plan all month.
Idk, supporting my partner and I off my SSI, plus a small stipend from my dad (so less than 1200 a month for two people), even with section 8 and 42), is wearing me down. It'll get a little easier when my partner gets SSI, but... idk.
Maybe what I want IS too consumerist, some kind of middle class pipe dream. Maybe what I'm actually craving is just stability and security anyway. Who knows. I just - so many things I was incredibly lucky to grow up with now are as inaccessible as gold bricks and mined diamonds (yuck!) the size of my head. Can't even afford mobility devices, food that doesn't trigger my MCAS, etc, and quite honestly I'm sick and tired of having to try and "budget my way out of poverty" like that one old Nilla wafers minimum wage post said.
I am not abled enough to DO the labor to afford cheap meals that don't make me sick for an extra 3-5 days and that doesn't cover the last week and a half anyway.
That makes a decently made couch that doesn't set off my sensory issues sound like a genie lamp.
Blech this turned into a bit of a whiny vent 😅
Have a joke: How are a toilet and a computer similar? Their "IP" addresses! ;)
Thanks for listening though. Even if you don't have the spoons to respond just, thank you
I really, really feel this. We're on a similar situation and Dave's place still has barely no furniture. When it started to get proper cold, I didn't have any actual appropriate clothes for a couple weeks. My food issues and gluten intolerance are a huge burden on our food budget, and I feel awful about it.
These are basic things no one deserves to struggle this much with. You absolutely deserve better than that. I understand your situation, I see how hard you're trying to make everything work, and I'm proud of you.

Hey so in like, less than half an hour, La Pucelle Ragnarok will finally be releasing on Steam. Some people already have the game on Switch (I hope and pray this version is good), but I wanted to make a post as someone who imported and played Ragnarok on PSP. So here's the List of Differences between La Pucelle Tactics (PS2) and La Pucelle Ragnarok (PSP/PC/Switch) Aka: 10 Reasons Why You Should Buy La Pucelle Ragnarok
Scene skip! The original PS2 release of La Pucelle did not have the ability to skip cutscenes. You had to live with the sequences as they went, adding in a lot of time to the game. Now you can skip past things when you need to, which is great for replays!
Battle scene skip! You had to watch every battle play out, whether you liked it or not. This also helps speed up the game massively, leading into the next feature.
Re-Action through Purification! A major feature added to La Pucelle Ragnarok, this meant that anyone who successfully did a purification (in which a chain started) and anyone in that chain's path would get another action that turn, allowing you to take multiple actions per turn!
New dialogue! Some enemies will trigger off dialogue from the characters (Namely Prier, Culotte, and Alouette), talking about the monsters and what impressions they leave. These lines are all voiced!
DLC characters! You can get Rosenqueen Branch Shop Owner Ellie, Hero Prinny, Rozalin, and Cornet as playable characters! They're even included without paying or downloading anything on the PC and Switch versions!
Legacy characters! You can also unlock Laharl, Etna, and Flonne much later in the game! They have their own little cutscenes related to them, as well.
A new story mode! In classic tradition of NIS strategy game rereleases, La Pucelle Ragnarok includes the Overlord Prier Mode storyline, positing the question: "What if Prier became a Demon Lord?" The result may surprise you!
New Game Plus! Shockingly, the original release of La Pucelle Tactics on the PS2 (in America) did not include a New Game Plus option to carry over your levels. You had to make sure you had a save squared away if you wanted to dig into the Dark World part of the game, which was much more high-level content that one might find familiar from other NIS titles. The European release (and later releases of La Pucelle on PS2 in Japan) had New Game Plus included in order to help build up levels.
You Can Use All Characters! After finishing both the main storyline and Overlord Prier Mode, you can use all story characters permanently in future playthroughs without losing anyone due to story constraints! Go wild, dood!
New Combo Attacks! Characters in La Pucelle Ragnarok can team up and do special combo skills to devastating effect! They all have their own animations that play out, so check them all out!
La Pucelle Ragnarok is a title I've been extremely excited to see get localized. I think it's maybe the number one title I've always been a little miffed never got over to here, despite being 80% in English already! So getting to have this chance now, I hope everyone plays it.

Please consider buying this really soon!

Hi there!
I haven’t been here in what feels like forever 🥴. So here’s an explanation as to why. I have always played sims on my laptop. It has a max of 118 GB, the sims game takes up about 20GB of that and I have 90GB of cc. So once I downloaded the ea app I had to reinstall the sims but it kept the same from origin in use. (Not sure how to say that correctly). So I havent been able to play the sims ever since you had to download the ea app to play it. And since I mainly like making mods I can’t check them in game to see if they work. And I don’t want to put out any low quality mods. As of right now I am saving up to buy myself a pc. I’m hoping once it’s my birthday I will have saved enough money and can also use birthday money if necessary. That goes with the fact I will not be uploading any mods or cc until the end of October 🫨, since my birthday is October 22nd. Since I really enjoyed being a part of this lovely community I will be uploading only challenges till then, maybe some old screenshots. I’m currently busy with my last testweek. Which will be over the 5th of July. I am hoping that the second week of July I can publish my first challenge. Which I’ve been working on for quite some time now. I hope you are doing well, see you soon! 🌷

clover for the common man
ive been excited to play this one ever since i burst out laughing at grays character description, enough to buy it with my human money!!! apparently its a bit more complicated than that.
even before the bugs, it just wouldnt recognize its own disk. IT WAS A LONG WAY BACK TO WONDERLAND, AND WE FOUND OUT MANY THINGS, SUCH AS: - oh BOY were these games badly recieved initially - clovers drm required dedicated support even back then, BUT THE INDUSTRY JUST KEPT USING IT? AS LATE AS 2014 EVEN? (- meanwhile, crimson empires drm resulted in a 5mil usd class action lawsuit against ubisoft, so you could always do worse)
anyway angels walk the earth and they share patches for abandonware. i played through the intro, had good fun, was alarmed by both the auto and skip buttons exploding my game but thought whatever, ill learn to live without them.
Tumblr media
so clover doesnt like actually being played. ok, fine. i did what i could. lets check out the ps2 port
Tumblr media
who left her in the wash??? NEXT.
Tumblr media
we used to live like this...? i really didnt want to give up the crisp art of the original. BUT the system changes on the psp even out to about the same level of comfort as the pc (a bit higher actually, the originals font hurts me), the only problem ive had so far was the bgm not looping properly. also, more crucially, i can play it.
this isnt even a "dont buy old games unless you just want to look at their cute little boxes in your house" post, according to reviews some people genuinely had no problems after the patches. maybe my computer just has bad vibes. i now have a setup where my pc and phone pass my saves back and forth though which is quite comfy.
AS FOR THE ACTUAL GAME: - i loved how alien wonderland felt in anniversary, but its long enough that you eventually get pretty comfortable. clover changes things up just enough to recapture that friction & does it with purpose - so many lorina flashbacks... why is she bald......
Tumblr media
- i like that it follows up on the themes of the truth ed within wonderland itself. call that limbo no kuni..... - SOMEHOW THE MOST EXCITING TIDBIT FOR ME SO FAR IS ELLIOT AND NIGHTMARE BEING BROS. MAKES PERFECT SENSE AND YET COMPLETELY BLINDSIDED ME

Update on my sim family sorry no pictures.
Let’s begin with the story of Mckenzie and Matt. They had one daughter before moving to San Sequoia then due to the new game update with infants, the game gave Mckenzie triplets. If the game wasn’t hard enough with the new update of infants, it certainly is harder now, so before they moved to sans Sequoia , the one daughter was an infant and the nanny, Mckenzie and Matt refused to take care of the infant. The nanny was like you’re the parents and the parents were like but you’re the nanny and so nobody was responding to the infant, forcing me to use the cheat codes to keep the infant alive. then I went and saved all of the family portraits starting from when it was those two to the infant to the puppies that they adopted didn’t know that there was a bug in the game that if you took the portraits or photos and put them into your family or household inventory that they don’t show up anymore I never had to deal with this bug before so I didn’t know so on upon moving into San sequoia I discovered the bug and I was so upset because this is supposed to be my Legacy family so I need to have the original starters at least their pictures so I’ve been taking photos of them putting them in that little photo frame that rotates photos every so often I don’t remember what it’s called so within 72 hours of them moving into San Sequoia they ended up with triplets now I’ve had to age, cheat them up because the parents wouldn’t let the baby sleep. I don’t get it, so I think the new crib is the high chair and speaking of the fucking high chair. My toddlers don’t want to sit in the highchair, they said they fix the bug, but I don’t believe them because my fucking toddler won’t sit in the highchair.. it has been frustrating and that’s not the least of it after I cheated aging my infants into toddlers the family decided to go to the splash park they spent maybe five minutes there and they all went home so pissed about it especially since I moved into the lot that’s right across the street from the splash pad so I was like perfect. I don’t have to wait for anything to load. My Sims can go just straight there, nope they want nothing to do with it not a thing so they built the treehouse and after building the treehouse, Matt had a midlife crisis and decided that he needed a space picture you know one of the collectors, so he was looking through the telescope and saw a meteorite was coming right at him so guess what he fucking died I had to beg and plead with the fucking Grim Reaper to keep his fucking ass alive Now I haven’t played much of Sims since it came out in 2014. I started buying them at the end of 2016 but my computers have always been so shitty. They weren’t gaming PCs they were laptops. They weren’t gaming laptops they were just normal laptops I’ve only ever really built. I’ve never really played the game so now that I’m playing the game for the first time ever. It’s been so frustrating because they’re stupid they’re plain fucking stupid. Not like this game is stupid but like they’re not intelligent even though that their logic skills are maxed to 10 they’re still stupid I don’t get it I don’t get it sure it’s been entertaining to play the game but the all the fucking moodlets that are in there annoy me Matt was flirty because him and Mckenzie woohooed in the shower and so he had that mood lit of being flirty for like three hours so then him and Mckenzie and fucking Kyle don’t even give me started about Kyle were playing simbles and she got jealous of Matt, because he was flirty. OK since you asked about Kyle matts original name in the game is not Matt it was a different name which also happen to be the name of the guy that I had a fling with that looks like fucking Kyle in the game so I had to rename Matt Matt. And I don’t care for the name Matt I don’t like it. So since Friday when I could start playing it which is almost a week now I am enraged. I am enraged. So that’s the update on my Sim family I don’t have pictures because I suck about taking pictures in game. I hope y’all have a good laugh at my expense 🤣🤣🤣🤣

From one Jewish person and HP fan to another: What do you think of the Hogwarts Legacy controversy when it comes to the anti semitic accusations? For me, I have to bite my tongue and roll my eyes at the goblins issue because imo, goblins and antisemitism have been embedded within each other for literal centuries. I highly doubt that Rowling even thought about that when she was writing the books.
But there are other things that give me pause. Things like the symbol on the floor of Gringotts in the movies looking like the Star of David and the unsettling implications of the main plot of the video game do leave me doing a double take. Those are design choices from Warner Brothers and writing choices from the devs at Legacy Games, and I feel the latter in particular should be investigated.
At the same time, the whole thing makes me want to fold inside myself with agony because the this game is just truly wonderful eye candy for writers and roleplayers. I don't have the money to buy the game since I don't have the money for a PS5, but will I watch someone stream it so I can ogle the landscape? Probably.
What are your thoughts on the matter? If you've spoken about it and I haven't seen it, feel free to point me to where you have. If you don't feel comfortable talking about it, that's also ok.
P.S. If you haven't posted your AU with Sirius's son yet, I look forward to when you do :). It's rare for me to find Sirius's offspring AUs that don't have me rolling my eyes from cliches and bad writing, and what you've shown via tumblr so far is lovely.
I think the accusations are a bit... reaching. And, to be honest, I don't really see the accusations. Goblins have been a thing for centuries, long before Jews, and the goblins of folklore didn't really have an anti-Jewish bent until the days of racial antisemitism in the 19th century. Where European antisemites looked at goblins, twisted them to fit their own hatreds, and painted us as nasty little creatures as a way to dehumanize us. Goblins have been rooted in Scandinavian and Celtic folklore for centuries — magical beings not dissimilar from the Aos Si/Knockers. Depictions range from post-Christian type like Tolkien had, to sort of hobgoblin/brownies "helpful creatures" types.
But the goblins in HP look to be inspired by Germanic/Scandinavian goblins with an interest in mining, crafting, treasure. And JKR likely looked at how Tolkien wrote the dwarves (interest in mining, warriors, make really cool magical weapons) and imbued her goblins with that.
The star that you're talking about was in Australia House, and it was supposed to be a star representing the States of Australia. Is it unfortunate? Sure. But it's not a gotcha moment. It's an unfortunate coincidence.
If people want to condemn antisemitism, there's a fuckton of antisemitism to fight. Antisemitism on the right, on the left, not if some fucking goblin is secretly Jewish coded. Like how, only a few years ago, people rode in cars and trucks through the middle of a Jewish neighborhood in London shouting "fuck the Jews, rape their daughters!". Only last week, a man was arrested for shooting two Jewish men in Los Angeles (he has since be charged with federal hate crimes charges). The "Goyim Defense League" spread neo-Nazi propaganda across several states. Kanye inspired at least 30 antisemitic acts since October.
I want to play Hogwarts Legacy. I do. The only reason I'm not is because I don't have a system on which to play it (my current laptop is a MacBook Air and that's woefully unsuited to gaming). So I feel your pain, anon. I'm trying to save up to buy a good prebuilt gaming PC (or I might just try and build my own).
--
And thank you! I haven't posted my "Sirius has a son" fic, at least not yet. I want to get maybe a dozen or so chapters written and edited so all I have to do is just post it — plus my beta reader is busy with real life so I don't have anyone to review it. With my other two (now deleted) fanfics, I would publish a chapter and then spend time writing the next chapter in between a full-time job. That was just... putting me in a stressful situation so this time, I just want to have the chapter ready — just plop it into AO3, make whatever last minute edits, and then post.
And feel free to ask whatever you want about Blackborne (the "Sirius has a son" fic) and my other WBWL!Neville fic Living A Nightmare :)

DEAR SANTA
Yes, it's been a long year. A lot of things happened… stuff changed, and new things came in to play.
This year I've actually GOT a few things I would appreciate you helping me obtain:
A New Graphics Card: I can't tell you how difficult it is to play some of my more recent games without it.
And while it might be easier to just save up and buy a new game console, let me tell you… I've BEEN through the struggles of that… and I'd rather keep my freedom of choice, you know? All of these exclusive titles and subscription fees give me a headache some days.
Don't get me wrong… I'm pretty patient. Even if Final Fantasy XVI (that's 16 if you hate roman numerals) ends up taking YEARS to come to PC… I'll wait. It'll be worth it, even.
For that matter, I still haven't beaten Star Ocean: Divine Force yet, which I plan to do once I get 'said' Graphics Card, Sonic Frontiers included.
I still play Stranger of Paradise too, but it'd be great to have a better Graphics Card to handle that title as well.
So much I want to do, get, finish, and share with my friends if I can manage it.
And while I do have a rather extensive Steam Wishlist… well, a lot of games aren't even out yet, so I can wait on those.
I think the biggest things I want right now are for mod patch updates to better expand content on the games I already have.
I think GGStrive modders somewhat know what I'm talking about, but March can't get here soon enough!
I would also like a classic version of Sin's OATH flag for Strive as a mod… but who knows when THAT will be made (if at all).
I could also use some new T-shirts and Guilty Gear merchandise… if you could hook me up with that as well…
I feel like I've been falling behind on the necessities and engaging aspects of being a Guilty Gear fan.
Better yet still, I feel like I need more Manga and Magazines to read (and maybe a Girlfriend to hang out with too).
If I'm naughty, I'm sure plenty of people will let me know… but, if I've been "nice"… let me know that too… I could use the encouragement.
Just… make sure the staff and developers of ARC System Works and Square Enix (and Electronic Arts, Konami, and FromSoftware) KNOW that we want something GOOD next year… that's all I really want.
Less exclusivity, more fun… less esports, more extra modes and customization. That's all, really.
The more freedom games give me, the more I can express myself and my dreams…
And hey, a sequel to Code Vein also wouldn't hurt.
Take care, Santa… stay warm and don't dive down any unused Chimneys, nowadays people use floor heating…
----Your Pal, Gear-Project (well, you know my real name anyway)…
P.S. I wouldn't mind Rumble Fish 2 or DNF Duel as a quick gift if you don't mind!

the 'pokemon that aren't very good' is in fact a fantastic part of the game. Normally Stantler's not really much of a interesting choice. But here, he's one of the only pokemon with Intimidate. So if you wanted that useful ability, maybe he's worth using.
There's only one ghost pokemon, and its Misdrevious. (This is before they got an evolution)
The atmosphere of the game was baffling. like it was the only game with a on screen Jail that you could visit (and also you could just take the jail keys and enter the jail cells to talk to people. ). Most of the characters tended to at thieves of some sort. Sorta like how Rougeport is in Paper mario, were almost everyone is a bit on the shady side, at best.
The game also had a bug, were depending on how you did your turn orders the game would think a pokeball is another pokeball, like a master ball. (like you use one and then you swap items on your second turn, ect). This feels like an intentional feature to the Snag Machine.
its worth noting with no wild pokemon, there ARE no pokeballs in the main stores. you actually had to go to a dead-end diner shaped like a train in the middle of the desert, were you buy them from a collector from when he actually needed pokeballs. Also there are limited saves. In the sense of 'you can only save your game at a PC instead of in the menu like literally every other pokemon game. Which makes the 'you only have so many chances to catch a shadow pokemon' that much more unnerving.
The sequel game you're some random kid who's parents i guess were stolen, you had a new machine specifically/would only let you catch shadow pokemon (lore wise you just don't catch non-shadow pokemon because that would be wrong. But there is actually nothing physically stopping the player character, technically. there's rumors he would have been the main antagonist of the sequel game, but they changed their minds. )
Even more interesting bits to Colosseum!! Thank you!
“Baffling” seems like a good way to put it, because this doesn’t really sound like an actual Pokémon game we’re talking about haha, more like one of those fan games. But I really love it, and wish it was seen in more Pokémon games now that you’re bringing this stuff up!
Limited saves especially. Ooh those get me. That makes everything so much more important; you can’t mess anything up!
And the rumors of the player character being the main antagonist in the second game? That’s GOOD
