Matthew 16:24-25
King James Version
Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.
Stop trying trying to follow God on your terms
God has been waiting for you… the way you are, nothing added.

Jesus then said to his disciples, If any man will follow me, let him forsake himself: and take up his cross, and follow me.
For whosoever will save his life, shall lose it: and whosoever shall lose his life for my sake, shall find it.

This word "self-preserving" means to preserve ones self from destruction or harm. It is a natural response to act or speak in ways that would preserve, to maintain, to keep safe where comfortable, but Jesus doesn't call us to be self preserving. If He was self preserving He would have never died on the cross! If He was self preserving He would have kept Himself from harm, the destruction and malformation of His body, from death and separation from us and our Heavenly Father. In silence He submitted to His Father. Laid down Himself, His flesh, His life for us!! And He calls us to do the same for Him and our brothers and sisters. Self giving no matter what mountain you stand before. "Then Jesus said to his disciples "If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow me"" Matthew16:24 Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends- John 15:3 Give me your heart my son and let your eyes delight in my ways. -Proverbs 23:26 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your toil is not in vain in the Lord. 1 Cor 15:58 All the labor of man is for his own mouth [for self preserving and enjoyment], and yet his desire is not satisfied. Ecc 6:7 Let us be Self Giving

One Minute Reflection – 12 August
Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me…”…Matthew 16:24
REFLECTION – “These words are the foundation of all Christian and religious perfection. To deny self is to renounce to all, the will of the flesh: all our inclinations, desires, pleasures, satisfactions, softness, tastes, humour, preferences, habits, susceptibility, aversions and repugnance to rough things; in other words, to renounce in all and for all, our perverse self.”…St Jane de Chantal

PRAYER – Lord, You chose St Jane Frances to serve You, both in marriage and in religious life. By her prayers help us to be faithful in our vocation and always to work against our perverse inclinations. Only in You and with You and through You may we attain perfection. Lead us Lord! We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. St Jane de Chantal, pray for us, amen.
