Almost nothing President Donald Trump ever does is subtle. When he tries to appeal to specific voting demographics, he often lacks the finesse to communicate the essential idea that he doesn’t just care about them for their votes — he actually shares their values.

That’s why he can easily espouse bigoted ideas even when trying to court specific groups of voters, such as when he told African-Americans that they are “living in hell in the inner cities” or when he told Jewish voters that supporting Democrats demonstrates “either a total lack of knowledge or great disloyalty.”

So it was little surprise that, when Trump tried on Thursday to reach out to suburban women voters, he botched it:

Trump’s use of the word “housewives” was notable because the article he linked to didn’t actually use the word it all. It merely referred to “women” in the suburbs.

The New York Times’ Maggie Haberman noted the oddity of Trump’s phrasing:

The fact that Trump seems to immediately think of housewives when he hears “suburban women” speaks to his simplistic and stereotypical understanding of the electorate. As Vox’s Matt Yglesias pointed out, being a “housewife” — a woman who primarily cares for a family and doesn’t work outside of the home — is not the experience of even the majority of mothers:

There is, of course, a reason Trump and his defenders are focused on this demographic. Extensive polling shows that Trump’s support among women in the suburbs has cratered and created a massive vulnerability in the 2020 election for him. The Daily Beast recently reported:

President Donald Trump has been warned by his political advisers in recent weeks that his perilously low standing with suburban female voters could be worsening amid the lingering coronavirus crisis, imperiling his chances for re-election.

Five sources on the Trump campaign or in the administration told The Daily Beast that they fear the global pandemic and resulting U.S. economic downturn are potentially feeding frustration with the president among this demographic, which the campaign’s own polling sees as crucial in 2020. Two of the sources said the issue of suburban women has been raised in direct conversations with Trump in the past four weeks.

And CNN’s Harry Enten explained:

In the average of all the polls, Biden’s ahead by more than 15 points with suburban voters. This is a historic margin, if it holds. The fact that Biden is doing so well in the suburbs shouldn’t be a surprise. The suburbs are a bellwether vote of sorts in our current political environment. That is, the suburban vote mirrors the national vote closer than the urban or rural vote. Biden’s lead in the suburbs is reflective of him doing significantly better than Hillary Clinton. Four years ago at this time, Trump was beating Clinton by a 45% to 35% margin in the ABC/Washington Post poll among suburban voters. In other words, we’re looking at nearly a 20-point improvement for Biden versus where Clinton was at this point in the 2016 campaign. Winning this group back to Trump’s side, though, will probably take a lot more than hamfisted tweets urging them to read articles based on outdated stereotypes. He’ll need to show he can actually govern the country effectively and begin the work fighting the pandemic and recession that would actually improve the living standards for the majority of Americans.

RuneScape players say Twitter’s bitcoin scam looks familiar • Eurogamer.net

If you went anywhere near Twitter last night, chances are you saw the chaotic aftermath of a massive security breach in which several celebrity accounts and cryptocurrency companies were hacked to tweet a bitcoin scam. Elon Musk, Barack Obama, Bill Gates and Kanye West were among the compromised accounts, all of them tweeting a very similar message. “I’m feeling generous because of Covid-19,” the compromised Elon Musk account tweeted. “I’ll double any BTC payment sent to my BTC address for the next hour.”

Shockingly, it seems at least a few people fell for the scam – and according to public blockchain records, the link received contributions totalling over $100k (£80k) within hours of it being posted online (via BBC). And while it should be obvious that sending cryptocurrency to an unknown wallet is a bad idea, for many RuneScape players, they knew from personal experience. So many people noticed the similarities to an old RuneScape coin scam, in fact, that RuneScape started trending.

In RuneScape, this particular money doubling scam falls under the umbrella of “trust scams”, which mainly take place on trade associated worlds and the Grand Exchange (the main trade hub for each world). As with the bitcoin scam, the scammer offers to double the victim’s money… but only if the victim sends some over first. The doubling is supposed to then occur in a separate trade (making it a trust trade), but at this point the scammer can simply take the money and run, world hopping and blocking the victim in order to escape.

According to RuneScape veteran and Eurogamer guides writer Lottie Lynn, some scammers first start by actually doubling small amounts, such as 10k or 20k coins, before earning the player’s trust and making off with 100k. “The scammer might also try to trick the other player into simply dropping the money, wait for one minute until it appears to the whole world, and then do a runner,” she added.

More elaborate methods include setting up a deal for millions, then backing out with the promise of adding items, then restarting the deal – and changing the millions of gold to thousands, hopefully without the other player noticing (such as swapping 10m with 10k).

A refined money-doubling scam method as demonstrated by YouTuber TheRsCyphers.

Jagex attempted to stop this practice (and real-money trading) with the introduction of trade limits in 2007, which would block anything deemed an “unbalanced trade”, but following community protests and polls, this was reversed and free trade returned to the game in 2011. Given scams of this nature became a problem over 10 years ago, naturally, many RuneScape players found it amusing that the same method is now being used to rob Twitter users of their bitcoin.

As for the Twitter hack, in the immediate aftermath of the breach verified users temporarily lost the ability to tweet: but it seems this function has returned, and we now have some idea of what happened. Twitter Support confirmed a “coordinated social engineering attack” took place which targeted Twitter employees with access to “internal systems and tools,” which the hackers then used to take control of high-profile accounts and tweet on their behalf. Leaked screenshots of an internal Twitter administration tool were apparently circulating on the hacking underground, and were seen by Motherboard.

“Tough day for us at Twitter… we all feel terrible this has happened,” said CEO Jack Dorsey. If only more people had played RuneScape.

Trump wants to push middle-income tax cut through Congress

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump says he wants to push a new middle-income tax cut through Congress after the midterm elections, though he’s not offering specifics on the plan.

Trump said Monday he’s looking to cut taxes by about 10 per cent for middle-income people. The proposal follows the massive tax law that Republicans muscled through Congress late last year and Trump signed as his major legislative achievement.

With the midterm elections in two weeks, polls have shown only tepid support among voters for that package of individual and corporate tax cuts that took effect Jan. 1. It provides steep tax cuts for corporations and the wealthiest Americans, and more modest reductions for middle- and low-income individuals and families.

Trump, leaving the White House for a campaign rally in Texas, told reporters, “We’re doing it now for middle-income people. This is not for business. This is for the middle.”

Coming so close to critical elections, the proposal appeared to be a tacit acknowledgement by the Trump administration that the $1.5 trillion package of tax cuts failed to deliver the political traction that Republicans had hoped for.

“This is just a political exercise,” said Steven Rosenthal, a senior fellow at the nonpartisan Urban-Brookings Tax Policy Center. “Republicans are realizing they have to do more to help the middle class.”

The lukewarm response to the tax law prompted Republican lawmakers to speed new legislation through the House in September, as they rushed out of town to face voters, to expand the tax law. The new bill would make permanent the individual and small-business tax cuts in the law. Prospects in the Senate for the legislation were weak.

Trump said over the weekend that he hoped to move forward with the plan “sometime around” or before Nov. 1. But Congress is currently out of session as lawmakers campaign for the Nov. 6 elections.

“We’re putting in a resolution sometime in the next week or a week and a half, two weeks,” Trump said Monday.

The tax cut proposal could be included in a continuing resolution to fund the government on a short-term basis. Around 25 per cent of federal spending hasn’t yet been approved for the rest of the fiscal year, so in theory it would be possible to put in new tax cuts in the lame-duck session. Lawmakers, however, already have a heavy agenda for the session.

Some Republican lawmakers hope to pass a budget resolution during the session — enabling legislation to be passed by a simple majority in the House and Senate, as happened with the tax legislation last year.

Details of the new plan are said to be coming later. It was not immediately clear, for example, how the administration proposed to offset the loss of revenue from a broad tax cut.

“It is not clear to me if there are going to be ‘pay-fors’ for this,” said Mark Mazur, director of the Tax Policy Center. “With the federal budget deficit nearing $1 trillion per year, there may be some concern about adding to it indefinitely.”

If there are “pay-fors,” that could make congressional passage more difficult, Mazur said.

Nicole Kaeding, director of federal projects at the conservative Tax Foundation, noted there have been major tax cuts put through in lame-duck sessions. Tax cuts enacted under President George W. Bush’s tenure were extended in 2012 during Barack Obama’s administration, for example.

Without details of the new plan, “It’s hard to know what exactly the president has in mind,” Kaeding said.

Sen. Ron Wyden of Oregon, the senior Democrat on the tax-writing Senate Finance Committee, called Trump’s statements “empty rhetoric” and “an admission … that his tax law only helps corporations and the donor class.”

“The middle class will see straight through this scam just like they did with Trump’s broken promise to deliver $4,000 wage increases” under the tax law, Wyden said in a statement.

Dating at 50: What to Do and What to Expect

As of 2016, more than 28% of the U.S. population was 55 or older, according to the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation. The Pew Research Center says 10% of those 50+ are divorced. And then there’s AARP, which just released a poll that shows two-thirds of 65- to 80-year-olds are still interested in sex.

All of this culminates in an older demographic that’s prime for dating. But, if you’re dating at 50 what can you expect and what should you do to meet interesting people, go on great dates, and move into a relationship? Well, there a few small things you may not have thought of that can help you out.

Here are seven important tips for dating at 50:

1. Don’t worry about age. It may be cliché to say that age is just a number, but it’s the truth. Just because you reach a certain age that doesn’t mean you have to stop doing certain things, and that includes dating. You can date, go out late, visit clubs, spend the night with someone, and do whatever you want at any age, as long as it makes you happy and you aren’t hurting anyone else.

Even if you’re feeling a little old or out of place dating, don’t get down on yourself. Try not to talk too much about your misgivings in an online dating profile or when you’re on a first date. Instead, let your confidence and personality to shine through.

2. Try online dating. Over 49 million people have tried online dating, so clearly there’s some kind of appeal to it. Plus, with over 8,000 dating sites and apps out there, you can choose one, two, or a bunch that can meet your needs. Dating apps, like the ones on this list, have made it easier to customize who you’re looking for by searching by your location, interests, and beliefs, and they allow you to date no matter where you are, no matter what time it is, and no matter what you’re doing. (That means you don’t have to go to a bar unless you want to.)

3. Take initiative. Women no longer have to follow outdated dating rules that say they need to wait for the man to make all the moves. Both men and women shouldn’t sit in the backseat when it comes to dating—This is your love life, so take matters into your own hands. Send the first message on a dating site, ask for the first date, lean in for the first kiss if you think the moment is right, and so on. Taking this kind of initiative will make you feel confident, and the person you’re with will know you’re interested and reciprocate it.

4. Be safe. Technology has improved our lives in a lot of ways. Online dating is a great example of that. However, technology has also opened the door for identity theft, romance scams, and other scary situations. You’ll want to do a couple things to ensure your dating experience is safe and fun.

Create a new email account that you’ll only use for online dating communication. Don’t put personal or financial information on your profile. Do a Google search on your dates before meeting up. And let a friend or family member know where you’re going to be on your date and when you expect to get home.

5. Be upfront. The majority of singles don’t play games anymore. Things like waiting three days after a date to call or text, being unavailable in an “attractive” way, or waiting for the other person to say I love you first are outdated ways to try to gain power in a relationship that most daters, especially those who are older and more experienced, will see right though. People are more upfront about their feelings, and they want their dates to be that way, too.

If you’re looking for a serious relationship and are against hooking up, put that in your dating profile or mention it in your messages and on your dates. If you’re not interested in someone, let them know at the beginning. Don’t drag it on because you don’t want to hurt their feelings. You can be nice about all of this, but part of being nice, is being honest. You’ll save everyone a lot of time and energy by doing so.

6. Be understanding. As I mentioned earlier, a good number of singles over 50 are divorced, and you may be one of them. Don’t think of this as baggage, it’s just something people go through, and it makes them who they are. A lot of mature singles have kids, too. And it can be a rich and rewarding experience dating someone who’s mature and experienced enough to have children.

Maybe you have a tumultuous relationship with your ex, maybe you met someone who doesn’t want to date a person who has kids, or maybe you’ll meet someone who’s going through something else entirely. The point is to be understanding of your potential dates’ situations, and they’ll be understanding of yours.

7. Stay positive. These last two tips kind of go hand in hand. Being open minded and maintaining a positive attitude while dating will go a long way. Try to break out of your shell a bit, go out with someone who you might not normally go out with, and participate in activities that you may have been scared to participate in before. You’re going to have a few bad dates, but everyone goes through that. Don’t give up too quickly.

These are just a few things for singles in their 50s to keep in mind, but these tips can really apply to singles at any age. As long as you put yourself out there, try new things, and focus on having fun, you’re sure to meet someone who’s doing the same and looking for you.

I wanted to share my discovery around attracting money and having it be something that lives for you with ease and simplicity. In this video I will be challenging your beliefs around money. Furthermore, that how it occurs to you will be more true to create the very thing you are wanting.

Having wealth is a construct of beliefs that keep us exactly where we are financially. However, this is only until our way of being around wealth shifts. I created this presentation to help undo the beliefs around money that you may have that keep it from showing up. Furthermore, that when who you are is more clear and true around the principles of wealth that it would show up with velocity. This is not a lesson or a class to take notes only an opportunity to challenge the beliefs around money that you have that are not true.

In conclusion, I am offering some relief to have you get mindful around this topic that you could set yourself free of that poor mentality.

Knowing what we want is in the first steps of getting it. If you are unclear of what you want how would you ever know to have it. How would you know what was wanted may have been there all along.

Where the answer to what is wanted resides and how there is not a person on the plant that has these deep wants and desires. Surprisingly, they have actually been there all along and your focus on the surface level things keep you from really have the daily experience of who you are and what you are about. I am very clear that they results you are looking for are also blocked or hidden by your superficial wants and desires. They often come from a place of Force where it takes much time, effort, and energy to create the outcome you desire. Being clear on your wants and who you are in them will give begin to attract the things that haven't been showing up. This can be money, time, health, and/or relationships.
