It's been a good bit since I had time/energy to draw for myself, and longer than that since i've tried shading a piece again (last time was in December with the Caspar+Raphael christmas pic!), but I managed to do a thing the past couple days!

I finally had something I wanted to draw with my own design for Matter Eater Lad I posted in August. Drew him with Beast boy. Played around with BB's design cuz I'm on the fence with the personal design i made back in 2020 (I will post them up here later).

I injected some TTG vibe into this current one with ME-Lad. Most BB"s have some Vibe I like about them, but i'm unsure which vibe i like the most!

a nonbianary vigilante who mostly is doing this because they can't seem to sleep with all the police sirens with powers that are like a far weaker version of that one anime slime. each time they go out they look different and they also just eat the weapons so they cant be used. theyre immune to anemia because of the "suppliments"

Going through some old files, and I forgot last month that while i was doing the YCH poses, I also digitized that one traditional doodle of Matter Eater Lad. Started it because it was to showcase the YCH it inspired, but didnt finish it til later. Also some other doodles w/ beast boy again. im still thinking i should make use of other teen titans/you justice designs i like for Scenarios. But no ideas yet. :P

tenzil is such a fun guy and i love him. i went mostly for personality with this design, which might be obvious, but i love it when he just looks like kind of a tool. so i gave him dumb anime shades, rave pants for some reason, some obnoxious neon green....

for some non-human features, the most obvious thing to me was focusing on the mouth! it just makes sense if he has absolutely insane crocodile teeth, i think, and separating his jaws with two colors further draws attention to it. and maybe even makes the idea of him like, eating a bus less weird? maybe!

it's extremely stupid for him to have a tooth logo on his costume. but by god i gave him not only the tooth logo, but a big mouth on the back! i'd be lying if i said it wasn't a little bit soul eater inspired. i'm sorry that show was foundational to my aesthetic. a lot of the rest of the outfit is just tweaked versions of his recognizable costumes

i also wanted the body type to be pretty distinct for him - i have this pet peeve where superheroes always just default to being buff as hell, so whenever i'm drawing a hero whose power is anything but punching, i consider whether or not it makes sense for them to have muscles. brainy, imra, tinya, among others - it just does not make sense. this guy's power is just chewing, he should just look like a normal guy!
