Okay so yeah, mostly crack theory: Dr. Iplier is an Actor Mark variant. Not like a standard Iplier Ego, but like Date!Mark or Heist!Mark(these terms may get a little confusing -- a Mark but not an Iplier, even though his name is Iplier lol)

My evidence is twofold(may become threefold if another detail comes back to me):

In [MarkTV] (timestamp 9:07), he seems to be more concerned with acting than actual doctoring. He's outright the only one in the scene who 1) calls himself an actor and 2) is playing the role of somebody else(not hosting a gameshow or representing for a commercial).

(SPOILERS FOR IF YOU HAVEN'T WATCHED "A HEIST WITH MARKIPLIER") When Heist!Mark [is having his name called] (timestamp 0:44), he pronounces his surname "ee-plee-ehr" -- as in, the same way Dr. Iplier's is pronounced.

Again, this is a very hardly serious theory -- but if someone wants to take this and run with it, then they can be my guest 💟

Nah, thats AJ and MJ ! More brothers ! AJ and I do pretty similar jobs, and us Jim's tend to kind of all have similar face structures and stuff, so i dont blame you ! They're also a set of twins like me and CJ. Not all Jim's are, it just means we get confused for each other all the time

I think CJ's a bit too self conscious to be on the other end of the camera at all. She's getting a bit more confident now, but her stutter still gets her sometimes.

The entire Markiplier/Warfstache/Darkiplier timeline as I understand it

I most likely got one or two things wrong but here goes

names and pronouns colour coded or bolded for convenience

-Damien, Celine, Mark, and William AKA the Colonel meet and become friends, practically growing up in Markiplier Manor together.

-Mark marries Celine (possibly for her knowledge about the arcane arts), to the dismay of the Colonel.

-Mark's fame as an actor and obsession lead to him and Celine growing apart.

-Celine and the Colonel start to have an afair, funded by Mark's loans to the Colonel.

-Mark discovers the afair, ends things with Celine and demands the Colonel pay him back, which he refuses, causing the two to end contact.

-Mark's obsession with the Arcane leads him to unleash two other-dimensional entities into the manor (which I'll refer to as the "House entity" and the "Dark entity"), and discover two extra planes of existence, the "in-between" and the "upside down".

-Mark uses the upside down to cheat death over and over again, returning from it to his damaged body after killing himself in various ways to test the upside down's limits.

-Mark plans to manipulate the Colonel into killing him, only to then steal his body as an act of revenge.

-Mark hires a detective named Abe to investigate his staff in order to make sure his plan goes well.

-Mark invites Abe, Damien (now the city's mayor), the DA (a stand-in for the viewer and Damien's plus one) and the Colonel to a poker night to enact his plan.

-Mark succeeds in having the Colonel kill him through a game of Russian roulette in the cellar (which breaks a wine bottle), but is unable to steal the Colonel's body or return to his own as it has become too damaged.

-One of the entities uses the in-between to teleport Mark's body in front of the DA to start the investigation which would allow Mark and the entities to get new bodies.

-The Dark entity succeeds in stealing Mark's body (however it can barely move), but only by trapping it in the upside down.

-Celine senses the odd happenings at the manor and joins the investigation in an attempt to speak to Mark's trapped soul, with the DA's help.

-the House entity shows the DA a vision of Groundskeeper George to get everyone but Celine and Damien to leave.

-While Abe, Chef and the DA interrogate George, Damien and Celine attempt contact with Mark once more, allowing Mark to trap Damien in the upside down and steal his body to escape, and allowing the House entity to do the same to Celine.

-Needing a new body, the Dark entity manipulates Damien and Celine and sends the DA and the Colonel to Abe's office via the in-between.

-Misinterpreting the evidence gathered by Abe, the Colonel believes Abe has been pulling all the strings, confronting and eventually shooting him, only to then accidentally shoot the DA who falls to their death.

-The Dark entity convinces Damien and Celine to return to the DA's body with the DA, and they convince the DA to agree.

-The Dark entity joins the 3 souls back into DA's body, however as multiple beings cannot be in the same body, each soul is broken and split into pieces, creating a deranged individual corrupted by darkness.

-The Colonel, seeing the DA's body rise back up after several hours, falls into madness, believing that death is a meaningless joke that anyone can get back up from.

-The dark individual takes Damien's appearance (with some elements of Celine's) and pushes the DA out into a broken mirror, now only containing Celine's fractured soul, Damien's fractured soul, and the Dark Entity.

-the souls overflowing from the body that was not meant to hold them give the Dark individual a red and blue aura, officially creating Darkiplier.

-Abe warns the Colonel over the radio that he is coming for him.

-The Colonel, now going under the name Wilford (Motherlovin') Warfstache, convinces Abe that he has succeeded in catching him, only to make him question reality and fall with him into madness.

-Mark, now in Damien's old body, attempts to regain his fame, this time as a youtube gamer.

-Darkiplier, or at least the Damien part of him, wanting his body back, attempts to possess Mark on several occasions, causing Mark to stare creepily into the camera, as well as various glitches.

- Wilford Warfstache starts a career as a reporter, interviewing several video game characters and having several death-filled adventures, one of which seemingly ends in his death at the hands of a baby, however it would seem he was only injured.

-Wilford interviews Actor Mark, neither seeming to recognize each other. As Mark insults Wilford and the audience, Wilford casually stabs him to death (however Mark obviously would not be dead for long)

-Actor Mark stars in a choose-your-own adventure-style romantic video series, however two of the story's endings are hijacked, one in which Darkiplier attempts to steal Mark's co-star, succeeding and getting Mark (temporarily) killed or getting himself (temporarily) killed depending on the co-star's choice, and one in which Warfstache teleports the co-star into a bathroom, in which a mirror reveals that they are in fact Mark's dog Chica.

-Warfstache creates MarkTV, a TV service that would give Dark, Warf, and even a reluctant (and seamingly hostage) Mark, as well as various other Markiplier personas their own shows and commercial platforms, in an attempt to gain fame and therefore take control of Mark's channel. While Dr. Iplier agrees with Warfstache, having been heavily featured in MarkTV, the other personas disagree, including Dark, who assures Warfstache he still respects him and always has.

-Poems written from the perspective of various personas appear in the descriptions of Mark's Doki Doki Litterature Club playthrough.

-A cryptic video is posted from Mark's van in which an old television turns on emitting white noise, waking up the cameraman as a barely audible voice, seemingly Darkiplier's, states that "we were going to do great things together", then orders the cameraman to go back to sleep.

-Another cryptic video is posted with various glitchy, grainy shots of nature, a cabin, a floating woman and a hooded figure, as well as a voice, seemingly Darkiplier's, stating (either to Mark, the viewer or someone... or something else) "you built this place for broken things, but some things can't be fixed", then repeating the "go back to sleep" line.

I think that covers quite literally EVERYTHING from the early days of Mark's channel up to now!

This was written before DAMIEN was released, here is what's new

After escaping the Manor in the DA's body during the events of Who Killed Markiplier, Celine and Damien make their way to a cabin in the middle of nowhere, where Celine seemingly takes control of Darkiplier, leaving Damien in a sort of dream loop, which is interrupted by Mark (or at least the entity... in a Mark Mask). This starts the process of waking Damien up to his reality, literally cracking the walls around him that Celine had set up to protect him. He sees images of a mutilated corpse, probably that of the DA whose body he and Celine inhabit with the Darkness. Damien tells Celine to rest as he finally takes the wheel and lets the Darkness consume him, emerging from the cabin as Darkiplier.

EDIT PT2: POST HEIST

I'm now adding what I could put together from A Heist With Markiplier

before the date with the co-star, Mark organises a heist with them in order to steal a box that acts as a divergence of timelines, its contents being different within each timeline. In two of these timelines the box's content is a rewind button, one of which brings you to the beginning of the heist, which Mark forgets about and invites you on the date from Date With Markiplier, the other brings you to an interview with Wilford outside of spacetime, where he asks about the other timelines, including asking if you died. As he prepares to shoot a fly (while it rests on your face), Kathryn stops the interview to scold him.

In another timeline, Mark disappears due to some mysterious happenings in a sewer, at which point Darkiplier brings you into a hallway filled with images of the cast of Who Killed Markiplier, wondering how many times you've met, calling into question who the viewer is in each of Mark's POV series (Who Killed Markiplier, Date With Markiplier and Heist With Markiplier). He then offers you the truth of the box's contents (seeing as each timeline reveals a different item) by admitting he's hidden a code throughout the timelines, a code which once put together (currently) only leads to a video of Mark, as Dark, showing the viewer a blooper reel of Heist.

I remember in one video Mark was asked to do Wilford (this was the time Mark said he felt down and was just uploading for habit w/out really feeling proud of his work) and he was like "OH GOD!! I don't remember how to do his voice" something like that and this was also the time I became obsessed with Cydango so when I heard that I was sad because Wilford is bae. Then things starting looking up and Mark started getting creative, A Date with Markiplier came out. I'm pretty sure no one was expecting Wilford! I think this is totally awesome!!! So generally, I love the new video. I think it's safe to say the community loves it and that your hard work paid off in the end. YOU GUYS DID GREAT!! BRAVO!! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK BUT DONT STRESS YOURSELF OUT ABOUT IT!! Ps Chica needs her own channel

Ah, the mammalian monarch, the rodent royalty. A boy.

First impression: I didn’t actually realize he was an ego as opposed to just another one of Mark’s titles prior to MarkTV.

Impression now: Bow before the king. Just because he does often exercise power does not mean it doesn’t exist. Bow and be grateful for the benevolent king. Long Live the King.

Favourite moment: *Runs into the meeting room.* I’m, uh, King of the Squirrels. *Runs away.* He’s such a goofus.

an Idea for a story: King was not always the man we know now. He is something much more ancient. Much more terrifying. So what happens if he forgets he isn’t that being anymore? (A fun ol’ amnesia fic. Related to one of my current WIPs. Bonus points if you know which one.)

Unpopular opinion: King isn’t an idiot or a child. He is the third oldest Ego and should be treated with as much respect as Dark or Will.

Favourite relationship: King of the Bing, I guess.

Favourite headcanon: King is actually some kind of primordial nature being. A spirit or dryad or a deity. ;)

Something to consider:

(Quick side note: Because Dark is most likely a combination of Damien AND Celine, i’m using they/them Pronouns in reference to Dark. Just in case)

In ADWM, Dark is very different from what we’ve been introduced to in WKM.

I don’t know if this is because of time or general weirdness, but you have to admit the Dark we see now is vastly different from the Dark we saw in ADWM.

In WKM, Dark doesn’t say a word, but we know them reasonably well enough to know they’re off from ADWM’s Dark.

At first, they look sad and lost. then they go into a direct rage.

But the interesting thing is that there’s no shell crack. There’’s no hidden rage. it just is.

In ADWM, Dark is collected and able to hold themselves together for a fair amount of time. They comes off as kind, charming even. Until their shell cracks. The we can see the rage and agony that they’re truly hiding.

My guess is that a considerable amount of time has passed between WKM and ADWM. This clue being from Dark’s mention of “waiting a long time to see us again”.

We can also infer this from how put together they are. They’ve adapted Damien’s mannerisms in this time-span. They know how to talk their way into getting what they want by now.

That is until they slip up and their shell cracks.

In that moment, we see a glimmer of the being we’re shown in WKM.

 In that moment, Dark’s shell broke and showed us the tormented souls that lived within.

We can assume that Dark had been through quite a lot in the time frame of WKM and ADWM.

Namely because of the progression of our own Wilford Warfstashe.

When we last see Wilford in WKM, he has completely lost it. He’s gone off to search the mansion for the friends that aren’t there and never will be.

We can only assume two things:

Dark went off to find Mark and get their revenge, leaving Wilford alone to fend for himself in shambles

OR

Dark went after Wilford. After all, Damien and Celine were worried about him, and they care about him. This would easily tie into when Dark said “I respect you. i always have.” Because then that’s not Dark being Manipulative as we’ve been told.

This means Dark wasn’t just into MarkTV for Control of the channel (though it wouldn’t have hurt if it managed to help), but because their friend wanted to do something and they love Wilford enough to try and support him.

But by the progression of insanity Wilford has taken in that time span, we can confirm it was a serious amount of time. So it’s entirely possible for Dark to learn and adapt to the components that make them up and the abilities and skills each of his base parts can do.

So Dark can ignore the laws of physicality, and i think that’s because Celine’s powers were strong enough to send us back the way Mark sent us away to begin with, so Dark could easily tap into that and adapt to it.

And as we’ve said, Damien knew how to talk his way around situations. Dark uses this to their advantage the most, trying to convince us to let them in and gain control.

This also means both Damien and Celine are present in Dark.

THEY ARE PRESENT ENOUGH TO BREAK THROUGH THE SHELL DARK MADE AND SHOW US THEIR ANGER AND AGONY.

Wilford really is one of the most important characters to me and one of my favourite characters ever... in a time in my life where everything seemed to be shattering around me (and having been gaslit for years in my first relationship), a character I had already deeply loved had danced his way onto my screen and into the house I was sofa surfing in between rent contracts and told me to never let anyone ever tell me that I’m mad - that I might be lost, confused, overwhelmed, or feel like my head was all kinds of messed up - but I was never mad...... After years of not being able to trust my own memory, thoughts, or perception of our crazy, crazy world, I can’t express the way hearing Wil speak those words to me helped pull a little part of me out of the darkness

Fast forward a year and I’d returned to marktv, wkm and wmlw as comfort material near constantly, and somewhere along the line I’d near enough fell in love. And then ending 16 came along and really sealed the deal. Yes, I fell in love. With you. Again. I always will, every time you’re there, every time I need you.

The selfship community was overwhelming at first and I still haven’t branched out a whole lot (I’m working on it though), but it was also wonderful to feel as though this character that I’ve so deeply cared for, that I’ve loved, could actually love me back. That we could have a relationship that I could go to when I needed comfort - and one that I could take comfort in the fact that I wouldn’t be judged, that what had happened in the past would never happen again.

All this is is a long-winded way of saying I love him, I love everything he’s meant to me over the years, and that I’m glad I joined this community
