Fashion Film

Amanda Harlech
My favourite fashion film recently is from SHOW Studio and is called Punk: Blood Rose by Amanda Harlech.
What strikes me the most about this particular video is the effect of blood on the model’s white garment that slowly seeps through the fabric, rather than gushing out so it makes you think about what happened for the blood to be directed in a certain way. The different blood splatters and views highlight the intensity of the stains and adds a forensic theme to the video. Next, the parts where the blood is presented as a liquid, gives the effect of feeling dripping blood which draws you into the video more. Furthermore, the stains are later digitally edited into abstract imagery which is eye-catching due to the different patterns created. In the end, the colours are intensified due to the brightness of the white and vibrancy of the red which accentuates the visuals. The fact that the video is so heavily aided by the use of red paint that acts like blood, reflects the theme of the video-punk, as this culture has no limits, shocks and goes against the ‘norm’ in that some people may find the video uncomfortable to watch, because they’re not used to seeing such raw and realistic imagery. I also like that the model’s face is covered so all the emotion felt comes from the creation of the blood rather than facial emotion which shows the skilled creativity of Amanda Harlech. Moreover, the soundtrack Free Words by Leslie Winer also relates to the them of punk due to the the need of self expression with no opposition.
