To also go off of the point about cop!akihiko being annoying to me I gotta say that Akihiko as a character is very hit or miss with me because of how different adaptations of p3 will subtly alter his character. I felt like in portable with the femc route he comes off best, he’s a bit of a hothead with an obsession with fighting, but he’s overcompensating his strength so he doesn’t feel as weak and helpless as he’s been in many situations. He defines strength in a very literal sense, being physically strong and using that to protect others, but he’s lacking in emotional strength as a result. And in particular in this version I think he’s portrayed as a bit more goofy and sweet in a sense. He cares deeply for you as a friend and leader but he struggles with finding the words to describe how he feels. Hes kinda naive and gullible and has trouble noticing his surroundings. He has no clue what he’s doing but his heart is in the right place. I think he just comes off much more human and he has flaws, many many flaws, and that makes him all the more lovable
But then in other adaptations and spinoffs it’s like. They look at him through some hetero male bullshit filter and seem to view him as a lot more admirable and cool. Like in p3 dancing, theres literally an event where he’s talking with Junpei and Minato and they’re gushing about how perfect Akihiko is and how he doesn’t seem to have ANY flaws at all. And it becomes clear his inability to flirt with women just gets added as a way to make sure you, the Straight Male Player, don’t get insecure being next to such Perfection because at the end of the day, you’re still more charming and sexy than he will ever be because you’re better. It’s a “flaw” that’s only there to shield a sensitive male ego. And then in arena I mean, come on. He’s overly beefy and is a damn cop and travels the world and loves Protein™️ it’s his whole personality and he’s so clearly meant to be seen as hot but like, he’s just some shitty hetero male fantasy. Hes what the writers deem to be a Perfect Man that every guy wishes he could be, but don’t worry he’s still bad with women so you don’t gotta worry about him stealing your property- I mean, girlfriend!
And though I’ve not played reload and don’t really plan to anytime soon, judging from his social episodes they seem to have a similar problem. Akihiko comes off as a lot less approachable, like the year age gap is just too much of a barrier to get to know him properly. And he doesn’t have that dorky sweetness he has in portable, he’s just that perfect hetero male fantasy guy and don’t you fucking worry- he still has his protein powder with him

Hi! How do you feel about the Crashtown mini-arc?
Ahhh, Crashtown. Honestly, I’m extremely in two minds about the arc. See, here’s the thing. When I watch it, it’s a great deal of fun. It’s a very self-contained little story that has all the necessary setup and payoff built into itself, and the cowboy aesthetics in Crashtown’s unique setting, while technically still being part of 5Ds’ largely futuristic canon, are absolutely hilarious. Not to speak of the excellent dramatics, what with Kiryu being in his depressed bitch era and needing the Power of Friendship to remember why it’s nice to be alive. So, in isolation, I find Crashtown very funny and its self-contained story compelling.
However, sometimes, I get a little frustrated knowing how many episodes this arc takes up, because where the larger narrative is concerned, Crashtown accomplishes… Well, nothing, unfortunately. It doesn’t interact with the main plot in any way, doesn’t develop Yusei’s character in a particular way (because we already knew he’s a special kind of loyal-as-a-dog-devoted when it comes to Kiryu; if anything, Crashtown only shows us that he’s also a little more gullible than usual when Kiryu gets brought up), and while it does give Kiryu meaningful character progression, he’s sadly never relevant again after this point in the show (literally the only two times he shows up after this point is during the flashback of everyone cheering Yusei on during his duel with Z-ONE and in the epilogue as he loses to Jack). Worse yet, the whole arc begs the question of why only Kiryu and no other dark signer got this kind of tying-up-loose-ends treatment. (The answer, I believe, is that he’s specifically the dark signer who has the strongest ties to Yusei in particular, which awards him special treatment. That does nothing to justify why Carly, who I’d go as far as saying is at least equally important to Jack as Kiryu is to Yusei, doesn’t get anything like this, though, and is instead sidelined because she has amnesia. You know. Amnesia. Everyone’s favourite trope. Which Kiryu, curiously, also doesn’t have.) And considering how often I lament about the things I wish 5Ds canon had spent more time on, I don’t think it comes as a surprise that it leaves a slight, bitter aftertaste in my mouth that an arc like Crashtown that adds nothing to the larger plot or any character other than Kiryu gets so many episodes while many things I wish the show had addressed don’t get a single one.
So, Crashtown’s kind of a mixed bag for me. I think the best way to sum it up would be this: If you handed me the reins for a full 5Ds rewrite, one of two things would happen. Either the show would gain another twenty or so episodes where I’d try to give all the other dark signers similar treatment as Kiryu in Crashtown, developing both them and the main cast members they interact with more (and also try to make them at least show up one more time before the Ark Cradle arc, even if only to cheer Team 5Ds on during the WRGP), or Crashtown would be left on the cutting room floor entirely, because if the only way to improve the main cast and plot were to find time for all the necessary adjustments within the exact same episode count we already have, Crashtown (and all of the pre-WRGP arc’s pure filler episodes) would be the first thing to go.
Don’t get me wrong, the yeehaw arc has excellent aesthetics, excellent dramatics, and is great fun every time I rewatch it, so I don’t fault anyone for loving it to bits, I absolutely get it. My inner overanalyst/canon rewriter just can’t unsee how many episodes it took up that were desperately needed for other stuff sometimes.

Some silly little fictional family doodles bc Mimmy’s recent post got me thinking about them lolol (selfship art)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’m gonna ramble a bit about it now lolol
Kento definitely a girl dad. I debated what hair color to give her. Im stuck between this reddish orange (since it’s out hair color combined) or making her a strawberry blonde (since it’s also kind of our hair color combined but lighter) bc I don’t want her looking exactly like me. I think it’d be cute if she was a good combo of us two. She definitely has Kento’s brown eyes though.
Kento spoils her too much!! (Clearly not to a toxic extent but sometimes he can’t resist her pleading eyes when she’s hugging a plush she got attached to while at the store lol) he always wants to spend his money on us and treat us like royalty. Definitely dresses her up super nicely, always buying her the cutest clothes when he passes it up in the store and it catches his eye. Has such a good eye for fashion and just dolling up our girl and making her extra cute! (I originally did a little boy who looked a lot like me but had mostly Kento’s personality but think a little girl would be cuter)
Baby Tomioka looks exactly like his dad but has more of my personality and interests. Such as being obsessed with sharks (bc I was the kid obsessed with sharks and marine life in general but mostly sharks lol) and having a lot more energy and being more expressive. He’s a foodie just like his papa and a messy eater too. He also loves playing outside, he can’t get enough of it. He likes to pretend he’s an explorer going out on adventures kekeke. When he was a tiny baby, he’d always be on Giyuu’s chest. He’d crawl up on Giyuu and just lay there. Often fell asleep on him too 🥹

the csm anime bothers me sm because on one hand it's beautiful but it's made under abusive conditions and the cuts/additions made to the story are telling of the anime's lens (added denji stabbing, cutting out the muscle devil fight to get to power faster when it highlights the coercive situation he's in and how he wants to run away, cutting labor rights song, extra fanservice framing on makima/power). it emphasizes all its most marketable shonen qualities as an impressive product 1st, art 2nd
yeah the anime producers def have a Vision for better or for worse, I also feel like they’re framing makima as too uncanny too early idk maybe that’s also the case in the manga and I didn’t rlly catch it either way I’m :/ about the anime

I just finished Chainsaw Man's first Arc and I am not normal about it so I need to let it out.
Also warning for major spoilers down here.
DISCLAIMER: Pics had to be blurred cause Tumblr wouldn't let me post them otherwise.
*inhales*
Tumblr media
First of all, I fucking hate people commenting their ignorance on Instagram under posts of Denji and Power bathing together naked.
Listen.
I don't think any of you understood the meaning of that chapter.
After the literal hell they experienced, Power was terrified. Terror was the only thing she could feel. Fear. Paranoia.
And who are here for her?
Tumblr media
Her family.
I don't give a crap if they bather naked. Dude. Have you any idea how... vulnerable that moment was?
Denji declined a solo trip with Makima because he was worried about Power. Because he didn't want to let her (or Aki) alone after what happened.
Tumblr media
Now you can tell me "that's not sibling love, it's romantic/sexual because they did this and that". Look, you can have your own opinion, but I have mine and this post is me explaining my point.
Denji looked after Power, looked that there was no darkness in her mouth or behind her, he made her eat, they took a bath together because Power was so scared to be left alone, slept together and Not👏a single👏 time👏 Denji thought it was sexual/romantic.
Dude even says it out loud for you to understand it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm sorry if you expected a hyper realistic sibling dynamic copy pasted from your sad realistic life, but-
This was literally two broken people, who never experienced a normal life, giving comfort to each other.
Did they want to kiss or fuck in that bathtub? Hell no.
In the bed? They were literally jusy sad, scared and tired. Hello??????
Power let Denji drink her blood because she thought Denji would hate her for making him stay to look after her instead of going out with Makima.
"But can't you see it? That's so romantic!"
DUDE👏
If your sibling (brother/sister) were terrified after a traumatic event and were afraid to even poop alone, don't you stay with them? If they are afraid of being alone in the bathroom, don't you stay with them?? I'll be DAMNED if you find it wrong to sleep in the same bed with your sibling because you're the opposite gender.
If you think it's weird, I've got news for you: Your mind is fucked up!
And the whole giving blood thing because Denji would hate her (spoiler: he would not, but oh well) is obviously cause, DUH, this is Chainsaw Man,
It's not exactly the best most healthy and positivity and flowers and happiness manga. There is not even a slight hint of anything NOT toxic, because surprise! It's a seinen! And fictional! With the purpose of entertainment!
You know what's one single pure thing about all of this? The Denji and Power sibling vulnerability chapter.
Tumblr media
You'll have to take them siblings from my cold dead hands.

Y’know what’s actually pretty funny about getting into Drakengard, tho... And I keep saying this because I think a lot about this. But the interest I have for this series really just. Peaks at the fact that the evolution of the series really kinda mimicked my own growth?
Okay, to clarify: I had this salty, misguided idea that happy endings were full of crap when I was younger. If there was going to be a “happy” ending, it should still be tragic; gripping through their traumas and struggling to feel happy that it’s all over.
Eventually I grew out of that and saw the good in happy stories. Hell, it’s what I primarily write, these days! Fix-its and all sorts of fluff pieces. (The occasional angst, but I still write w/ catharsis in mind!)
So it’s pretty fun to get into a story where everything is doomed. A little change of pace, exploring stuff behind the scenes and getting to elaborate on things, while having some peace that things will end, and there’s nothing that can be done about it.
Something, something, healing can come later. First, the destruction.
