Honestly I think it is absolutely iconic that Magireco bothered to make a scene zero Nagisa sprite only to have her show up in the very beginning of mami's doppel and do absolutely nothing besides stand there
mami is off shooting a giant cannon and nagisa is probably waaaaay in the back, still posing exactly like this

The MagiReco Mini Bang Comment Drive!
For those of you in the fandom who enjoy reading fanfiction and viewing fanart, we challenge you to participate in the MagiReco Mini Bang Comment Drive!
What’s a Comment Drive?
A Comment Drive is a fandom event with prizes to help encourage people to engage with the fanworks they consume. We will be holding ours starting the month of April to celebrate the release of all the Mini Bang Fanfics and Fanart!
How to participate:
As this is a comment-based event, you earn 'raffle tickets' by leaving comments on MagiReco Mini Bang fanfiction and artwork. You only need one ticket to be eligible to win, but the more tickets you earn, the higher your chances of winning.
How to earn tickets:
You earn a ticket by leaving 3 comments on 3 different fanfictions or pieces of artwork (3 comments = 1 ticket). Different chapters of the same fanfiction also count. The comments must be phrased in a positive light and exceed 5 words.
However, entrants can earn 2 tickets per 3 comments (3 comments = 2 tickets) if you meet the following conditions:
All three comments exceed 15 words.
All three comments mention/reference something in the fic/artwork that you particularly like (a scene/line of writing/the concept/the colour etc.)
There’s a great list of comment starters here for fanfiction if you’re unsure where to start!
Once you’ve made your comments, message @magireco-minibang or DM @abarero on Tumblr or Discord with links to where you’ve left comments. Comments can be made to the AO3 comment section of the fanfic or to the tumblr post for the fanfic or fanart or in reply to the person posting a link to it on Discord.
To ensure your comments count, make sure:
1. They’re left on MagiReco Mini Bang fanworks. Follow @magireco-minibang to see them as they’re posted or check out this tag for them! (We will also pin a masterpost to the top of @magireco-minibang once the fanworks start posting!)
2. They’re left on three different fanfics/artworks or three separate chapters of one fanfic.
3. They’re not copy/paste identical comments.
4. You submit a link to your comments to @magireco-minibang or @abarero (here or on Discord).
5. The comments are made sometime between April 1st and May 15, 2024.
What are the prizes:
1st Prize:
A wallpaper (phone or desktop) sized fanart by @kyrakyrakitty
A Chibi fanart by @automatic-purification-system
A custom graphics image set (icon and profile header) for whichever site you prefer of the magical girl(s) of your choice by @abarero
2nd Prize:
Two icon sized fanart pieces by @kyrakyrakitty
A custom graphics profile header for whichever site you prefer of the magical girl(s) of your choice by @abarero
3rd Prize
One icon sized fanart piece by @kyrakyrakitty
A custom graphics icon for whichever site you prefer of the magical girl(s) of your choice by @abarero
The winners will be contacted in late May!

Learning that much of the Witch imagery and folkloric/fairy tale references of Madoka were added in by Inu Curry and others at Shaft after Gen Urobuchi finished the scripts certainly explains why there's something of a disconnect between the visuals and how the characters act/react to their surroundings.
According to a quote on Wikipedia, Urobuchi originally envisioned the Witches as looking like conventional monsters a la kaiju like Godzilla. (Which I find amusing, since I've had the image of a magical girl fighting kaiju in my head for a few years now...) Things like Sayaka's Witch being an allusion to the Little Mermaid to parallel her unrequited love for Kyosuke being later additions explain why, when stripping the show of its visuals, Madoka really doesn't have much in the way of fairy tale themes/imagery (at least compared to anime like Princess Tutu, which is something I recall pointing out to someone on Twitter not too long ago). Yeah, the Faust stuff fits, but that's also arguably just the result of Inu Curry noticing the archetypal similarities between the contracts and Faust. And really, stories of deals with the devil are nearly universal, and can't be attributed to only Faust. Fairy tales are full of similar stories, for example (like "The Little Mermaid," since the Sea Witch in the original story was a neutral party akin to Kyubey, but she at least was upfront of the struggles the Mermaid would face).
This also applies to other, non-Witch details like Homura's weird apartment, which no one comments on. As pointed out by Anime Slushie, it's obvious Urobuchi didn't intend for Homura's apartment to be so surreal.
This isn't anything new, nor is it "bad" that Madoka had this kind of development. Lots of visual media have similar developments. George Lucas didn't originally picture Darth Vader as having his iconic helmet, but Ralph McQuarrie added that in in his concept art (McQuarrie noted that Vader traveled from one ship to another in the draft he had, and figured he'd need some breathing apparatus).
This gets interesting when we think of Rebellion and the Magia Record anime, since by then the aesthetic of the franchise would have been locked in, and in the case of MagiReco, Inu Curry was in charge and could do whatever they want (this is why I think the imagery gets confusing there; Urobuchi may not have had much in the way of designing elements for the setting, but I'd argue his script at least held Inu Curry back from going completely confusing with their visuals).

homura akemi ?
I got the same character twice so I am going 2 reply directly to my friend but yes I saw you too anon!
favourite thing about them: her girlboss swagger. noo but seriously shes just such a one of a kind character. she's incredibly intense which I like and she's the star when she shows up, has an incredible amount of depth behind her actions and is taken really seriously as this fully fleshed out person.
least favourite thing about them: even her negative traits are part of the appeal so. hmmm. i'm not as much of a fan of glasses "moemura" that they keep pushing in the game to make her cute and marketable. i dont really care for magireco as a whole though.
favourite line: most famously: "more passionate than hope, and far deeper than despair, love".
brOTP: kyoko and homura. everyone talks about it but it's still so underrated. i think a lot of people forget how much she cares about kyoko. they fundamentally understand each other, the way they're both trying to protect the people they love. both traumatized by their religious upbringings, both experienced death prior to the events of the series, they're both misunderstood and labelled as the enemy but push forward anyways. homura obviously has a lot of respect for kyoko considering she personally reaches out for her help in every timeline including rebellion. love them.
OTP: i wonder what this is! its so classic its so iconic its the blueprint its a shakespearean tragedy they are ying and yang they are literally god and satan it is great. not influenced at all by me watching madoka at the ripe age of 13 and it changing my braincells for the worse.
nOTP: the incredibly cursed spin-off where she marries ... tatsuya... to get closer to madoka. this is real and i do not know who the audience was.
random headcanon: this is interesting because even though madoka is my longest running fixation, I never really "fandomized" it and my interest is mostly kept within the realm of source material - i don't make or think of my own scenarios. that being said, I have dabbled in lots of doujins and the idea of her existing solely on calorie-mates (japanese meal replacement bars) is canon to me
unpopular opinion: trying to think of a truly unpopular opinion is hard but. as a homura / madohomu enjoyer it's like well, just maybe, their relationship is kind of toxic and that it's part of the enjoyment that she or they both are a little krayzee and incredibly dramatic
song i associate with them: "hunger" by florence and the machine :)
favourite picture of them:

certified classic, drew this during art class in grade 9 except also with the top of her head cut off and I think that scared some of my classmates

My Favorite Magical Girls from Each Color!
Just a fun little exercise I decided to do after seeing a bunch of Rainbow High posts in my doll collecting group! Feel free to reply with yours!
Red: Cure Passion (because I love reformed villains and her story makes me cry like nothing else, what more can I say?)
Pink: Madoka (because I identify with her a lot, even moreso the older I get, and I really hope I can use my compassion and sensitivity to change the world like she did)
Orange: Sailor Galaxia (partially because orange magical girls aren't super common, but mostly because she was a magical girl driven to villainy and is therefore a really unique and cool character and I hope she gets a Pullip doll release when Cosmos comes out--)
Yellow: Mami (because her whole storyline about trying to be the perfect mentor while also hiding her true loneliness is heartwrenching and I love how she both kinda is and kinda isn't your seemingly perfect hero archetype)
Green: Aisha from Winx Club (because she was my first favorite magical girl; I loved her 4kids voice and how she was both tough and vulnerable at the same time and learned to embrace both)
Blue: Mew Mint (because sometimes I don't always gravitate towards troubled mentor types in everything and am strangely drawn to this snarky, sheltered rich girl who has to figure out how to make actual friends)
Purple: Cure Moonlight (because I love watching her go from a hero who failed at her mission to a depressed teenager who, again, has to open up to people before becoming a hero again)
White: Kanagi Izumi (because she's literally so hellbent on societal justice over heroic justice that she's almost an antihero about it, and she deserved way more time in the MagiReco anime)
Black: Sailor Pluto (because, like Mami, she has a bit of a loneliness with a side of being the mom friend to her, but also has the bonus of being a grown-ass woman with a good-paying STEM job, something even my elementary school self admired immensely)
Miscellaneous: Sakura Kinomoto and Utau Hoshina don't really have set uniform colors (though one could maybe argue for them being pink because of both of their most iconic costumes), but I couldn't really make a best MGs list without them. As much as I like both their characters, they also kinda represent the more artistic things I love about MGs, too (the costumes for Sakura and the music for Utau)
