So @pieandhotdogs just tagged me to share some books I'm working on in 2023 with y'all, so first thanks Pie I like these games, and ask me about BOOKS hell yeah!

So i got

Arcana Mundi I got for a decent price at ThriftBooks early last year but I only got a bit into it before I threw my hands up and was like I am not absorbing any of this right now I'll get back to it, and wiping down some dust down on Hekate's night I unearthed it and was like yep this year Ima read this fucking book so wish me luck or send me spell to smarten me up I'll take either lol,

I also got Laura's Anatomy Of A Witch as a Christmas present and I've been working on it slowly over the month, I'm really enjoying it so far,

I can't remember who but one of my witchblr peeps recommend Deborah's Magical Power For Beginners to new comers, and as I've been trying to get back to basics to fill in on some areas I feel I missed out on I thought I'd give it a go, so far I've only had one bitch, which is amazing cause I can be bitchy,

(in case you're curious, she talks about how she doesn't use magic with a k which is good yes but then says Crowley was a fan of magic with a K, and I'm like yeah bitch he invented magic with a k how can you not know that you are literally quoting him)

For fiction I got The Dream Theives I got the first in the Raven Cycle for christmas I have Maggie's Raven Tarot deck and been wanting to read the books, I ate through the first like mad and am trying to pace myself with the second,

And another of my Christmas bundle of books was Johnathan Strange and Mister Norrell, I'd first heard about it from a Supernatural fanfiction crossover, (anyone whose interested I can send you a link, it's fucking great) then again and again it popped up on her in witch circles I think @hillsarehollow said her old account @rainshallmakeadoor was in reference to it? And other witchblrs I'm following have gushed over it so I've been wanting a go at it, though I find I've been somewhat mislead I've been told this is a novel and yet I received a Tome, when it came in separately from my other books ma and I were like what the fuck that's not ONE book right?!

Anyway I am surprised to find myself really liking, books set in ye olden times lol can be very hot or miss with me but I'm digging Susanna's 'voice'

Mini-review:

Heartbreak High is finally back! Look, I'm not gonna say this season was perfect; it was less focused than the first one, a bit more all over the place. I feel like some of its messages ended up muddled because of they way they're handled, and some storylines just don't get the time and space they deserve. BUT, all this messiness and feelings and juicy drama are just so f**king fun to watch. It definitely helps that the show boasts such an incredibly diverse cast of characters, all of them played by superbly talented and charismatic performers. I just love them, even when their decisions and choices get a tad too frustrating. So yeah, while this season might not have been as brilliant as the first, I enjoyed every single second of it and I will be thoroughly crushed if we don't get to see more of these characters.

DAY #2

Today I took the morning shift and sat in on the development session of Scowlby Angus Cerini. Serving as both dramaturg and director were Susanna Dowling and Chris Mead along with actors Vanessa Downing, Maggie Dence, and Russell Smith. Fabulous team all round.

Observation #1: It is feasible to spend almost an entire session talking about everything but the script that is up for development in that said session.

Observation #2: Although this may seem alarming, concern about relevancy of conversation is irrelevant as it is through the exploration of topics that are both far-ranging and close-by, serious and trivial, that a world of mutual understanding is created between the people around the table, whereby they may all leap off from roughly the same grid reference. I understand there were a lot of different phrases in that last sentence and for that I apologise.

Observation #3: Mead made a comment today about the very physical act that is going to the theatre, which struck me as fascinating. We make the decision tobe still, which is fairly novel in our fast-paced society, to sit before a group of performers and let them affect us. We allow our body rhythms to change so that we may make ourselves ready for new experiences. Interesting.

Observation #4: There is a very real difference (for a playwright) between including detail that is important for the plot and populating their play-world. Even more interesting.

And finally, a very tricky question: how do you layer a story with detail without overburdening it?
