Alrecchino is a dangerous woman. No woman or man dare to think otherwise. Many orphans are taken in across Tevyat and turned into perfect spies and warriors. Using normal cups, some actually having non caffeinated tea. She recognized it as not being apart of the regular set in the kitchen. Oh how soft they look like this. On their knees as the children pretend to be discussing high topics or drama of fictional adults as if they were elitist ladies. Lynette in particular seems to enjoy this play. She sips her non caffeinated tea like a proper lady, her tail relaxed as she is sat right next to her mother. She notices how safe Lynette seems to feel around her mother. As shes close to her and seems to constantly look over at her to mimic her holding of the cup and posture. There are a set of small scones and treats too, likely prepared by mother as well. Lyney and Freminet being the only boys at the table. Most of the girls seem to be enjoying this play. Arlecchino smiles at this domestic scene, but she heads to her office before she is spotted. For blood is staining her sleeves and she wouldn’t like to ruin the moment.

When she comes back the children and them are still playing now a new game. This one being hide and seek. She smiles from the shadows spotting Lyney behind the couch. He spots her and seems embarrassed but she puts a finger on her lips. He nods in understanding as she approaches her beloved, her back turned as she counts down.

“Are you having fun?” She asks quietly, but her voice still sends shivers down their veins.

“O-oh! Yes. Yes.. did you need something.” Embarrassed they quickly turn around.

“No no. I just like watching you play with the children. You don’t mind if I watch correct?” She asks. She spots the blush on their cheeks.

“N-no its quite fine.” Arlecchino smiles as she sits on the couch. “Would you like anything?”

“Maybe some tea.” She asks. They nod as they quickly get her a cup to pour. Arlecchino watches Lynette emerge from her hiding spot as if to get some tea herself. Her little tail seems excited as she stealthy approaches her mother figure. Arlecchino smiles as Lynette appears to be eyeing the teacup. She quickly hides as to not be caught, while Arlecchino carefully takes the cup from their hands. Immediately upon turning around she watches as Lynette is caught. She smiles as Lynette now joins her mother in finding the others.

Its a rare sight to see the Knave smile. So for the children upon noticing their father they’re also surprised to see her smile. Nervously Lyney approaches her, his hat is still too big for his head as it regularly moves downwards to encompass his face. He quickly pushes it up.

“W-would father like to join?” He offers innocently. Arlecchino looks at her children with a rare hint of vulnerability.

“I’d be delighted to.” She said.

You smiled and were about to bend down to pet it but she turned and ran away. You followed her direction of movement and spotted more cats gathered not too far away and became suspicious, you then followed the said cat up till the hoard and were surprised seeing the sight in front of you.

"Lynette? What are you doing here?" you saw Lynette cradled against the wall while hugging a cat to herself and burying her face in it. You noticed her tail was curved around her body and her ears folded backwards, indicating she was distressed. She perked up hearing your voice and looked at you, her beautiful violet eyes brimming with tears yet she didn't make a single sound. You became worried and knelt down in front of her, cautiously approaching her.

"What happened? Why are you here? Don't you and Lyney have a show soon?"

Lynette sniffled a tear and released the cat in her arms then lunged on you, embracing you tightly. The two of you were dating for a while and you couldn't bare seeing your girlfriend be upset this way, you wanted to know what happened. Arlecchino’s story quest just revealed how old Lyney, Lynette, and Freminet are. (Spoiler kinda)

Tl;Dr: late 20s

“I wish Genshin would give us solid numbers for character ages!” Sometimes they do. And those numbers give us ages of other characters too, if you pay attention. And yeah, I know the Genshin community doesn’t like to read, but you don’t even have to do much reading for this.

And let me preface this. When you go through this much work to “justify” characters being adults some people will say it’s just “an excuse to sexualize minors”. No. This isn’t even about that.

This is about me being absolutely sick and tired with the teenagers with careers trope.

First of all, what we know:

Childe is the YOUNGEST of the Fatui Harbingers.

Childe woke up the whale when he was 14 years old, and that was 20 years ago. He is 34 years old.

Arlecchino became the Knave at 17 years old.

The Hearth siblings came to the house within a few months of Arlecchino gaining control.

Lyney and Lynette met a magician named Caesar who over 10 days, helped them hone their stage magic skills

Caesar died 10 years ago.

Toddlers can’t do street magic.

Honestly the last couple of points aren’t even needed, but they’re helpful to solidify this number. You’ll see.

Let’s do some basic Arlecchino math first.

Again, she’s canonically older than 34, but if you want her and the siblings to be as young as absolutely possible, we can start there. (Maybe she’s a few months older than Childe. Idk)

34-17=17

Absolute bare minimum, Arlecchino has been the knave, and the siblings have been in the house for 17 years.

And quite frankly, I don’t think the “kids” were embryos when they joined.

But now that we have a minimum, let’s get a maximum to cover our bases. I’m going to use the serial disappearances as a marker here, because given what we know about her she would definitely look into that sort of thing. So she can’t be much older than 37.

So, when did the siblings join the house?

First of all, let’s get a few facts from earlier involved. Cesar died 10 years ago. That means he died while they had already been in the house for 7-10 years (depending on Arlecchino’s age.)

And a widely overlooked fact that personally I think needs to be taken into account more often, is that TODDLERS CANT DO STREET MAGIC.

But I get it, this is an anime game. And for some crazy reason some fans are convinced that characters should be as young as they can possibly be.

So let’s be just, the most generous that I could possibly be here and say those kids right there are 6 years old (anime 6 year olds don’t act like real 6 year olds so I’ll give you that), and it’s been an EVENTFUL couple of months worth of mastering street magic, trauma, and joining the House of the Hearth.

6+7=13 13+10=23

So the absolute bare minimum you are being silly at this point age for the siblings is 23, and depending on how old you think Arlecchino is, up to 26.

Personally, I feel like Freminet can help us out here, but we’ll have to apply just a teensy tiny bit of real world logic if we want to get anywhere. So,

How old was Freminet when he was sent to the house?

Freminet was very close with his mother, he was incredibly skilled at fixing and building things, to the point where he would help bring in money for the family for a few years before he was dropped off at the house with the old Knave where he’d notice other children with depression who he’d seen kill themselves.

Now I ask you, does that sound like a toddler? If you’re going to look me in my eyes and try saying he was sent to the house at 5 or 6, when the earliest of memories are being DEVELOPED, you’re not just silly, you are high. There’s really only so much disbelief I can suspend here.

Let’s be generous and say he was 8 years old. You can still have your over developed anime 6 year old, but at least it gives a few years for him to have been tinkering and making happy little memories before the trauma.

Again, using the youngest possible Arlecchino age,

8+17=25

So baby brother Freminet is bare minimum 25 years old.

In conclusion, let’s use those concrete numbers here to make an age range for the House of Hearth siblings. (I could absolutely give you my personal head canon timeline, yes. Will I? Maybe if you ask nice. But this is about cold hard numbers)

You’re absolutely fucking kidding yourself here ages: 22 for Freminet and 23 for the twins.

Low end: 25 for Freminet and 26 for the twins.

Reasonable maximum (the oldest I think they could be in the flashback is 13) 32 for Freminet and 33 for the twins!!

hello! I was going to ask the same thing as the anon and im just here to ask if why you are concerned about lyney joining the harem??? I always thought him to be same as kazuha aether and heizou… but i do agree if freminet doesnt join because he does appear to be young (and seem to appear to be the younger sibling to lyney and lynette). It’s ok if you have reasons and not add him and i respect that!

because i was about to share ideas on how lyney meets reader in harem until i saw your answer about lyney joining and decided to hold it 😅

I'm not entirely sure if I want to add Lyney to the harem because I don't know if he's a young adult, adult, or teenager. While his story quest mentions him and his sister approaching a magician 10 years ago when they were kids, wanting to learn how to do magic, I still don't know his actual age or his age range.

His age range can be from 14-20, and not knowing his "actual" age, or at least having a hint, makes me more hesitant about adding him to the harem. Plus, I don't want to deal with the age debate in my inbox or the comment section of AO3.

One person could be excited about having Lyney in the harem, while someone else would be like, "Lyney is a minor. Wtf is wrong with you?" You know? So, he's just going to make appearances here and there. Unless I get a large number of people demanding Lyney be put in the harem with evidence that he's a young adult/adult. If there's solid proof from the game that he's not a minor (the evidence cannot be fanmade or a "guess" like those Genshin "unofficial age list" of the characters), then he will be added to the harem.

But yes, Freminet is not going to be added to the harem.

not trying to be mean or anything just thought that it was worth mentioning /gen

I’m aware of this, but I won’t be changing it. Most minor character ages can be assumed based off context clues.

For example, Fischl got her vision when she was 14, so from that we can tell she’s a younger eighteen-year-old due to the lack of Electro visions being given out. She’s friends with Bennett, who is friends with Razor, so we can assume they are around her age. Barbara and Noelle are an iffy area, I’ll say that. But, they are often described as “young”, so they’re likely young adults or teenagers.

Collei is explicitly a teenager, around 16 due to the four year time gap between the manga and the game.

Freminet is almost always described as young, with Lyney and Lynette saying he still believes in childish things like fairytales. So, he canonically behaves like a teenager.

Kirara is explicitly a teenager, so I don’t have to explain this one.

Xingqiu is regularly called juvenile or young, meaning he’s a child or teenager. This likely extends to Chongyun and Xiangling, since they’re a known friend group.

Rule one of the House of the Hearth is to never stray from your loyalty to which you are indebted. By proxy of affiliation, the blood pact laid to rest in the hands of the Tsaritsa was far thicker than water - eternal freeze frosting over the source altogether. There's no place for standard Fatui operatives to trek throughout the treacherous winters of Snezhnaya to attend the Harbingers' designated meeting. Yet, what is there to do when The Knave herself deems it appropriate to integrate one of her own to spectate? The twins; the children of the House of Hearth were no longer children at all, but adults awaiting their Father's beck and call. And for Lyney in particular, there was no such thing as preparing too early to take their Father's place.

Where Lyney goes, Lynette too, must tread carefully behind, casting a quiet shadow in his footsteps not just out of obligation, but also for Lynette's own ease of mind. The Knave's benevolence in this regard permits her to accompany them until the meeting itself has started but does not extend any further than that. Lynette is well-aware of her position in this game of chess; to act as an unassuming ace in Lyney's sleeve if need be, as well as not do anything to upstage the star of the show. It's a calculated methodology; one that Lynette preferred. So it goes easily enough for Lynette to stay off on the sidelines as the hearing proceeded, making herself comfortable in a vast waiting area of the headquarters, sitting cross-legged on a leather sofa which only emphasized the harsh climate against the fabric of her stockings. Time passed ever so slowly as she continued to watch snow hit the windowpane off in the distance. Eventually, Lynette succumbs to slumber, hugging herself close as she curled up into the sofa.

The details of the dream that proceed in her blacked-out consciousness are of the hazy sort, but she's certain it's a nightmare upon waking up somewhere other than Hotel Bouffes d'ete, forgetting herself. Violet eyes shoot open into dilated pupils the instant she feels a foreign sensation weigh down her body. Feline ears fold back, expression twisting into something adjacent to fear for the first time in several years, mind tugging her back to the forsaken night she'd been ushered into the back of that man's carriage.

Lynette's thankful she didn't scream.

She collects her bearings quickly upon realization that the sensation she felt was merely a blanket, and that the person resting it on her was none other than Childe. A gentle act of consideration midst of Lynette's vulnerability nearly caused her to shoot into a full-blown trauma-induced panic. She swallows hard, exhales sharply, and shuts her eyes once more; embarrassment replacing her previous disposition in her speechless rendered state. Clearly, the Harbinger noticed it too, moving eye-level to her to regard her moment of weakness seriously. Her ears flicker as she listens to his sentiments earnestly, tensed shoulders relaxing in his consideration. She tries to wave it off weakly, yet, still is unable to meet his gaze properly in her attempt to recalibrate her mind to a blank state.

"You don't have to offer to do all of that for my sake. It's my fault that I got carried away waiting for you guys to finish up. I... should have been more attentive to my surroundings. I'm sorry for worrying you."

Genshin spoilers!! Complaining about the first part of 4.0 Archon quests under the cut.

I hate the Traveler in this part ngl. They're so incredibly inconsistent about the Fatui and I'm really mad at the weird logical somersaults the writers seem to expect us to do to justify their actions. Prime example:

We see our old friend (LITERALLY IN THIS VERY QUEST IN THE GAME DESCRIBED AS A FRIEND) Childe again and he drops some lore bombs, okay cool whatever. We can be pals with the guy who tried to murder us, steal Zhongli's Gnosis, destroy all of Liyue Harbor, and keeps popping up with his evil organization on our journey to find our sibling because his little brother is cute and he's needed for lore stuff. Okay, that's fine.

But what the fuck did Lyney do? He welcomed us to Fontaine, saved us from the Hydro Archon trying to throw hands, and has been nothing but welcoming and generous and kindhearted (only asking us to deliver some bags and pick a few flowers in return, literally nothing since he pretty much bailed us out of jail) and we drop him and Lynette like hot potatoes once we find out that (*checks notes*) when he was an orphaned kid and his sister got kidnapped, he turned to the only source of protection there was which happened to be a Harbinger who wants to save his homeland and protect people in similar situations to him.

And furthermore, he had good reasoning for concealing his involvement with the House of Hearth, which he explains: He didn't want it to come between the friendship with the Traveler and it wasn't relevant to the trial. Okay, I understand being upset that ge didn't mention it because Focalors did use it against us in the trial, but the complete about-face in demeanor was so shocking I spent the rest of the quest struggling to reconcile what just happened. And we still have to give him the cold shoulder after that? We can't even apologize or talk it out like mature and emotionally well adults, even?

What??????

The whiplash I got from this genuinely made me absolutely loathe the Traveler for being so unbelievably selfish and full of double-srandards. I need to know what the fuck whever wrote this was thinking because, good GOD, consistent characterization is one of the mostimportant and basic elements of good storytelling and the only way that this is any way consistent is for the Traveler to be a horrible human being and have such a skewed sense of morals that we might as well give up and join the Abyss already. Actually, screw that, we're probably going to make even the Abyss Order worse.

Furthermore, if we hate the Fatui so much, why not just abandon Lyney? Finishing the trial just felt like some hopeless grasping at straws so the writers could say, "Look!!! The Traveler is a Good Person(TM) because they didn't abandon a frend in need!!" but... we did? We absolutely did just ghost them after? Your argument holds not a single drop of water in the Hydro nation because your actions have proved the exact contrary point? I really hope Fontaine has better engineers than you are as writers because if this is all they got, then you're better off loading everyone in the nation into leaky fishing boats and hand-paddling to Inazuma than trying to build any dams to stop that prophecy, just saying.

Overall, I'm devoid of any emotion but disdain and also disappointed in Mihoyo for what they buchered, because the Sumeru story shows they have the capability to write competent and thematically consistent quests and they really went in so strong with the some of the other stuff and totally just dropped the ball here. I haven't gone to celebration tea with Demiselle (?) yet because I'm extremely disappointed and my immersion and emotional investment are not simply broken but in shards on the floor, so.

Maybe I'm biased because I like Lyney, but I also really just wanted to get that off my chest. I'd like to hear any thoughts other people have, if you agree or disagree and why :)
