So, about the black box in The Bifrost Incident

I keep reading fic that includes the black box and describes it as like. a literal black box. which. is fine, and honestly I can't say much, since until a couple weeks ago I also pictured it like that, but now I know, so: fun fact! there's an actual thing in planes called a black box that records flight data.

there are usually two in a plane, one in the front that records cockpit audio and radio signals and one in the back that records things about the actual flight (airspeed, altitude, heading, etc). they're used to investigate plane crashes and other incidents

now do I think all descriptions/renditions of the blackbox should make it look like this?

hyperfixating on Lyfrassir and Marius kissing but slowburn so obviously i was thinking about different scenarios of them reuniting after the Bifrost Incident. And I realized I want more.... Chaotic/crack treated seriously variations.

The dramatic/angry ones and the "found Lyf floating in space half dead" ones are so very delicious indeed BUT it's too late I'm thinking about silly ones now and I have a personal favorite to share:

Marius has been moping (aka in the worst lovesick guilt ridden agony ever) ever since they left Lyf behind, so the crew obviously kept an eye out for any sign of Lyf.

Not too terribly long after the Bifrost, Brian gets a signal while piloting. Whatever it is (Lyf's tiny space shuttle, a random planet, Lyf having stowed away on a large spacecraft the boys get to pirate raid) is based on interpretation ngl BUT Brian finds them. Of course, there are a couple factors to consider:

One, he is on EJM. Two, Jonny and Tim have been complaining relentlessly about Marius's moping (well, most of the crew has, but Jonny and Tim the most). Three, he realizes that The Birthday Day (the day in which the crew of the Aurora celebrate everyone's birthdays at once, since they've all long forgotten their original and time is strange anyway) isn't very far away.

(The fourth secret factor is that while I like polymechs I'm also a big fan of Tim Jonny and Brian being their own thing.)

So instead of reasonably telling Marius, he goes to Tim and Jonny and devices a plan to "make Marius less boring again".

Cut to Marius on The Birthday Day, half-asleep and face tear stained, getting dragged into the common room much too early in the day by these three maniacs.

(Much of the usual stuff has been/is currently being set up by the other crew members- a present pile that doesn't contain all the day's presents nor does it contain solely presents, random decorations salvaged through the years, snacks and a giant pile of blankets and pillows and other soft things in the center of the room so they can pass out there at the end of the day, etc etc)

There's a large box (the kind that look like fancy wrapped presents but have a removable lid like a hat/shoe box) next to the pile the three maniacs are pushing Marius to open ("Guys it's fine I'm really not in the mood for The Birthd- you never let me open presents early is this a trick?"). Marius eventually caves and pulls the lid off the box, the cardboard walls falling to the floor-

There is Lyfrassir Edda, bound and gagged, sat on the floor, glaring the sharpest daggers ever up at everyone. The three maniacs probably shout "surprise!" with shit eating grins.

Marius, both extremely relieved, overjoyed, and terrified nearly has a panic attack removing the bonds and immediately being punched square in the face for his troubles. (It's okay those two will work out their problems- eventually.)

edit: forgot to mention Lyf does 100% in fact have a giant bow stuck on their head and someone in the reblogs beat me to saying that lmao glad you got the same idea

SO BASICALLY, mumbo right? i know i said hed be nastya and he does share some stuff w her but then ppl reminded me of who would be aurora and what of nastyas backstory and i realized tango would be a better fit for those details of nastya so (ex princess tango + starship impulse !!! zed is the ships doctor btw n his mechanism is his brain) i decided to mix n match stuff from different characters n change whatevers, so now about mumbo:

his mechanism is his blood ! which is replaced with redstone :] this makes him radioactive, and also glow red. hes also like, a powered redstone circuit or w/e they are, and can power things by touching them/being near them even. i think redstone would be terrible for circulation but also that i think redstone itself would be pretty hot, being radioactive and all (especially powered redstone)

the coat + gloves etc are for hiding the glow (and also maybe some of the radiation??? i cant imagine that would be very good for normal people), and the scarf is for his head when he goes out n such

the mustache is fake. yeah. mumbo got meched young and did not get a mustache u_u

i think theyd have a backstory kinda like ashes, mumbo worked for the governemnt as a scientist/weapons expert but double crossed them for the rebellion or smth and got assassinated/sabotaged via lab safety violations

Firstly, I’m sorry. This ask is being answered embarrassingly late, and I apologise PROFUSELY for that. Thank you for sending it, and for being so patient with me being slow to respond!

First, second, or third person?

For fanfiction I always write in third person, which is a stylistic choice - the source material for the fandom I write for is a third person narrative, and the genre of fiction my work falls into (coming of age fantasy) is more often than not written in third person narrative. For my original stories I use a mixture of first and third, depending on what suits the story in question. I’ve never written a second person narrative, and I’m not certain that I ever will.

Do you work on a single project or many at the same time? How does that work for you?

If you’d asked me this time eighteen months ago, I’d have told you that I was working on at least three longform stories at any given time (@lifeofkaze can vouch for this). Since then, I’ve found it increasingly hard to focus on multiple stories at once, and so I now concentrate on one “big” project at a time, with the odd short story or a little bit of work on a different longform story when the muse takes me there. My brain is less scrambled if I concentrate on just one thing, but it’s still nice to take a break from the long stories sometimes!

Do you research before writing or while you write? Is it fun or boring for you?

Both!!!! There are certain things I research at the planning stage, because they are of major importance. To make sure that my work is all canon compliant, I will check that there are no major events in my story or the canon stories that will contradict each other. I also check my own canon in terms of what I already have for past events and what I have planned for future events. This means that I (hopefully!) don’t get any nasty surprises that mean major rewriting later.

I also like to spend time researching anything that’s important to get right. I spent a month researching how grief and trauma affect adolescents before starting to write a story (you know which one I mean) that centres on a teenager going through a traumatic grieving process, because it was important to me to write that in a way that’s sympathetic and truthful.

Whilst writing I will look up what I need for smaller details - checking exactly what canon says about how places look, what colour different spells are when they’re cast, etc. I have a very poor memory and bad organisational skills (dyspraxia lyf) so if I researched this stuff in advance, I’d forget it all by the time I got around to writing and have to do all the work twice! It also stops me from falling down the rabbit hole when I’m researching - I do really enjoy it, and if I don’t stick to the “only research what is relevant” rule I’ve imposed on myself, I’d never get to actually write anything!

Lost You Forever, if it had consistent pacing, tighter storytelling, equally interesting male characters, better narratives, it would have been a very well produced drama imo.

I would love to see a drama where I’m able to root for all the MLs while understanding their motives from a bigger perspective. Even someone like TSJ, with such simplicity, embrace his complexity.

Acting wise, this was my first Yang Zi’s drama. Tried her Ashes of Love but was dying there and couldn’t finish it. THIS ONE, I LOVE LOVE LOVE her so much in here.

She’s such a natural and didn’t overdo her acting and the mum scene was so well done and the feelings she poured in that scene was chef kiss!

Zhang Wanyi and Deng Wei’s acting was okay. Nothing fancy but nothing less either.

Tan Jianci. OOOOOFH, my man. My Man. How could I’ve missed you all this freaking time? I’ve should have watch your Under The Skin drama on my Tv last year! This guy as XL was the best thing this drama has given. Every of his scenes command your full attention and emotions. His eyes, his voice and his lines delivery was perrrrrfect.

I’ve skipped whole chunk of stuff towards the end as CX’s journey to get the throne doesn’t interest me at all. Because I’ve seen enough of this plot that LYF didn’t do better in this aspect. CX as a brother I’m fine. But when he started to have feelings for XY and hurt his hand with that knife, I’m like uhhhh, dude going feral soon. Stay away.

TSJ. This guy made me think was it because of the character or the acting that really frustrated me the most. He supposed to be this simple minded guy but cunning when comes to business but he came off as meek and he didn’t have that aura as what people he used to be. I’ve tried. Every time his scenes came out, I’m like screaming at my screen, “Really dude?” “Don’t you have anything else to say?” “Why are you standing there like a freaking statue?” “Say something!”

Then, he decided to die tgt with XY. That solidified my stance that I’m not going to stan this guy fr.

XL, I didn’t like him initially. Abusive, and that neck biting scenes turned me off fr. Dude, are you a demon or a vampire? Then, he gradually changed yet he was still conflicted. He willing to sacrifice yet hurt her. The duality of his character shone more through TJC’s impeccable eyes acting. And FFB? Wow, he managed to show the carefree, worry free man a big contrast compared to XL. At times, he would hurt her and I did get apprehensive but his complexity had me ponder and understood his actions.

It’s just a pity that this drama could have high score or maybe on par with MLC in terms of overall quality yet it’s still an interesting watch.

Waiting for S2, for more pain. Yes, and I know how it’s gonna end. Gonna standby a bucket for my tears.

I have 2wk worth of exams coming up and I have no motivation to study. I honestly regret taking up the course im studying for. I mainly took it up because its lucrative and helpful in today's economy. But honestly I should have just pursued 14yo Lyfie's dream to become a nurse. It wouldve been so much more rewarding🥲🥲🥲.

Anyways despite that im just praying my gpa doesnt go down the drain, and im gulity right now because i wasted the whole day doing nothimg even though i told myself to go study. I couldnt do it. I just......well i knew what i was doing was bad but everytime i looked at my notes i felt as if i knew them all, and in the end achieved nothing. Sigh i hate myself for how repetitve this unhealthy cycle has become. Parental pressure isnt helping either. I try ranting and they say its just momentary tiredness and it would go away soon and then further guilt me into wasting time :((((.

Currently Reading: Akatsuki no Yona (manga) ♡ and The Serpent and the Wings of the Night by Carissa Broadbent (I’m not entirely sold on it but I’ve only read 100 pages. I started it bc of the promise of vampires and a potentially hot love interest and I won’t deny this is probably bc of my recent infatuation with Xiang Liu from LYF lmao.

Current Obsession: I guess I’d have to admit that my crush on Tan Jianci has hit a new level LMAO. I’ve been repeatedly saving new pics, looking for gifs, watching his vids/performances. Other than that, I was recently obsessed with Mysterious Lotus Casebook, and DEVOURED it. within a short time frame too lmao.

Pre-TBI prison era thing were The Mech Trio finds out Lyfrassir is going on a blind date they're dreading and can't back out of so Marius wants to shoot his shot and begs his wingwoman (literally love using that term so much bc of Raphaella) to help set it up.

They take out the competition (not dead but probably a dick and deserved it anyway) and Marius shows up in the date's place in a poorly veiled disguise that Lyf sees through immediately, but plays along with anyway (while innocently poking holes in Marius's disguise) because it proves to be way a more interesting and fun evening than they expected.

Please consider the following: Marius being starstruck bc Lyf dressed up really nice and he's never seen them outside a work uniform before. The date being at a very nice fancy restaurant that they both prove to dislike so Marius drags Lyf out to do stuff that's more fun (but sadly just the legal stuff). Lyf being very suspicious and concerned the second they spot Marius but over the evening start having fun and realizing Marius's whole scheme was literally just going on a date with them and they have no idea what to do with their feelings now. The two get to do silly stupid couple stuff and after initial awkwardness are just so chill with each other and just click bc of the years of banter and interactions. At the end of the night Marius walks Lyf home and they say something like "I had fun tonight von Raum, but I'd better see you at work tomorrow." Leaving Marius way more down bad than before (and not missing the insane trust of letting him know where Lyf lives)
