I'm rotating Nanami and Kozue in my head and having some thoughts:

Nanami and Kozue essentially want the same thing (the love and attention from their brothers) but they want it in completely different ways. In some way Nanami is more similar to Miki, she wants to go back to a time when she was — or perceived herself to be — the main object of Touga's attention. This time might never have existed (as we see her insecurities already in her childhood leading to the cat incident) which means Nanami needs to constantly affirm her role in Touga's life through a strict performance. Everything about how she acts, including her treatment of Anthy, is a reflection of this unstable role she occupies and her desperate attempt at regaining some control of it.

Meanwhile, Kozue wants to be seen and loved by Miki as herself, not an idealized version conjured by Miki's nostalgia and his fear of change. She wants her present self to be seen and understood. But Miki wants Kozue to be his rose bride (in Miki's mind, the idealization of a pure woman), a role she cannot fulfill. Ironically enough, Kozue is a bit like the real Anthy. Both fall on the witch side of the princess/witch dichotomy and both are misunderstood by the people they want the most to understand them (in Anthy's case, Utena). They are idealized and turned into symbols.

That's why Kozue seeks power and she pursues it in the only way she believes she can: through her sexuality. By evading Miki's dehumanizing idealization of her, Kozue gains control and power. Miki cannot define her. But she can try to control Miki. If the world is impure, you have to lose your purity to get what you want.

But both she and Miki are part of a bigger and more powerful structure that controls both of them. Any freedom that Kozue pursues inside said structure only ensnares her further just like how Nanami's well-performed role as Touga's sister and any power she receives from it in the Ohtori hierarchy is extremely conditional and easily taken from her.

And that's what Anthy meant when she said all girls are like the rose bride. it's not that all girls face the same struggle but that under Ohtori's patriarchal rule, any power acquired by them is hollow and vain.

can't stop thinking about the way miles looked at alex (who seemed to be staring into space) and there was the slightest pause before he reached across what little space there was to squeeze alex's hand. there's just something so comforting about that touch; it's not just a hello or an i'm here, but also sort of like a teasing hey, come back here. it's miles, tethering alex to the moment. and the way alex instantly came alive—the way he popped up with that grin on his face, and readied himself at the piano. idk just something about the way miles is attuned to alex's emotions and knows the exact way to respond to bring him back to himself. just very Normal things

Weilin Zhang posted his storyboard for Sukuna VS Mahoraga and the notes for this part are so good

"Sukuna gets up from his roll and makes a facial expression that communicates that he knows what has just happened. He has successfully gotten Makora to learn how to feint and has just used it against himself. In other words, he has just taught Makora to lie, and in a way corrupting Makora’s divine status.”

but I also really love it when Sukuna's just drawn with a basic smiley face (I had to crop it or else tumblr wouldn’t show it????) especially compared to how it looks in the final

it's interesting to think about kuwadorian beatrice and how she is portrayed in umineko. we only ever get to see her in ep3 when beato is talking about her in the context of her own origin and when rosa tells her siblings about meeting her in 1967 and her eventual death, and then she appears once again very, very briefly at the ep7 tea party. as one of kinzo's biggest victims i thought her absence felt palpable, in some way i yearned to learn more about her and for her to be given a voice of her own so to say. but looking back, as i think about umineko as a story about storytelling, in which the characters are pawns in a game board and whole events are constructed based on the subjective perception of other characters, i started to see her absence as a respectful nod from the storytellers ( and here i mean beatrice/sayo, tohya and r07 himself).

what i mean by this is that, as a girl who spent her whole life deprived of freedom and was never given any agency of her own, if she were to have more exposition in the story would it be fair to her memory? so much of umineko is about characters chasing ghosts - lingering impressions, illusions to be more precise - of other characters. could these characters, who never knew her in the first place, do her justice by chasing a representation of her?

miles truly does love music SO fucking much and he expresses it in the most beautiful ways. like how he throws himself into all sorts of projects, whether it's something he's initiated/was involved in from the conception (like w the puppets and the upcoming mk and the evils) or something he's been invited to collaborate on—regardless of whether this means he's working w big names or lesser known artists—or even just the way he supports & celebrates other musicians. you can see that he delights in all of these; it's so clear that he does it all purely for the love of music. and that's why i find it incredibly upsetting when he's written off as a flop just bc he doesn't enjoy the same level of success as a certain other act. it's awful that to this day, people still have such a narrow definition of success, that they refuse to see beyond sales or charts and that they can't at the least acknowledge that miles is someone who pursues his passion. like yeah i'm certain that he has goals for himself that he hasn't yet achieved, but that hasn't stopped him! bc year after year he still puts everything he has into whatever he does, and he does so wholeheartedly. his work ethic is genuinely inspiring. i just wish people could see that.
