thanks to the encouragement of friends <3 i've had an idea for a story heavy but also low key, non committal rp kin i'd like to share to gauge interest.
Premise: Brigand kin with a mostly man theme (original I know but bear with me) but other races will be welcomed. Open to characters considered outcasts, trying to make ends meet, or just want to live on the edge. Perhaps others. Probably set in Bree-Land for its accessibility and richness of landscape. But moves to other regions could happen. Initiation would require a trial or three. Assignments will be given by the leaders such as reconnaissance, getting money (by whatever means necessary!) and other stuff.
Discord: I'll be making a separate discord for it as I want to encourage creativity beyond the game. I have an idea to do a writing or art prompt each month to connect with your characters more.
Mechanics: Very story focused. Plots would happen every few years perhaps, with bi annual mini events (or one) and a meeting hosted by the leaders every other month. Each event will have something to drive the story, whatever that ends up being.
Availability: I want this to be low-key and not something that people feel like they have to commit to, hence the long times in between plots and events. And adding things you can do on discord on your own time. If enough interest happens I might put a cap on membership too. That's all I got for now but i'd love to hear feedback or just emote reactions even to see if this is something people think might be fun. I'd like to set the story for it at least sometime next year.

I made the least hobbity looking river hobbit in existence. If it weren't for her size you'd think she was an elf. Her name is Riverhoneyy and I love her

I've still got a bit until my new year, but this will be the fourth one in a row, I've celebrated on LOTRO, and I don't regret it! I don't do enough with my main character's LOTRO kinship, because it's not an RP one, but they're all so nice, and it's fun to get on voice with them and jump off the prow of Minas Tirith at several midnights! Last year, my wonderful friend hung out with me on voice even until past her 1 am so that we could celebrate my midnight too. The year before, I streamed LOTRO and people were so nice hanging out in chat until past my midnight. The year before that, which was the height of everyone staying in for the pandemic, I just danced at the Prancing Pony, and we all celebrated each continental US new year as it happened.
So you know, starting the new year off right with my LOTRO addiction.

hi! how would you reccommend starting to post about your lotro ocs? i'm really excited about mine, and they have a lot of backstory, but i don't know how to start and am not really in any circles online right now.
sorry for asking if this is weird, but i really love your posts about yours, and wanted to know if you had any advice. have a great day! :D
heyas friend :D
to be entirely honest? my answer boils down to Just Start Doing It- you can rb some of those ask games that float around and some people will show up eventually to send asks and answer ones you send to them, you can just start throwing things into the void- jokes, screenshots, one of those elaborate character profiles, art or fic or playlists- just start throwing stuff in the tag and eventually you'll find people
for my own guys, i started out just writing stories for them and posting them on ao3- and quite honestly i didn't really expect anything to come of it at the time- and eventually i ran into people here- or they found me in some cases, i think- who enjoyed what i'd written and we started talking. the thing with that is that it took some time- it wasn't immediate by any means, but i have a little circle of good friends now and one of the group activities is Putting Our Guys In Situations Together. it takes a little time and some patience to build up to it, but it will happen eventually!
i know some people will do intro posts for their characters (especially people who do roleplay from what i've seen), and keep tags about them (another thing that takes a little time to build up the contents of). you can try asking around a little bit too to see if anyone's on the same server(s) as you and/or plays at the same time! sometimes it can be fun to arrange a hangout in-game even if all you do is run deeds or go sightseeing in bree. if you join a kinship in-game too it can help grow your circle a bit, but that has all the hazards of niche mmo communities for whatever that's worth for your own comfort, but i've also found that the people i'll casually game with on my home server and the people i yell about my ocs with are. very different circles. that's not true for everybody, but it's been my experience
i hope that helps a bit? it's my own process anyway, such as it's been. feel free to drop into my box again if you have more questions :) (or if you just wanna yell about one of your guys for a bit!)

hi! i was wondering if you happen to know of any lotro discord servers that are open to join?
oh, well I'm not in very many of them so I wouldn't have many recommendations ^^; I have one of my own, the Dunedain of the North Fan Club, but some of the folks there would prefer to keep it on the smaller side so I'm not actually sure if invites should be open right now. I'd have to ask and get back to you on that!
all that aside, depending on the server you play on, they might have some sorta unofficial discord you could join, I know mine does. or if you join a larger kinship they would probably have an active discord.
sorry I wish I had actual invites/recs to give! I think some other lotro folks around here are in more discords than I am, so maybe they could be of more help in the comments if they see this idk

sunny i got lotro back in may and i still haven't played it yet i'm too scared to start in case its hard 😅😅
aaaaaaaaa yay!! it's not hard jane i promise! I've never played an mmo before and it only took me a day or two to get used to it and then i was good to go!
you just make an account and then choose the server you want to play on. usually you stick to the same server so make sure it's good for your timezone! and whether you want to RP or not (personally I've never done it)
for a first character I'd recommend a guardian - fairly simple gameplay and good for solo questing. the game gives you tips during the early stages to help you learn the ropes, and if you're struggling I'm sure there are videos on YouTube to help
joining a beginner-friendly kinship is also helpful. you'll see people advertising them in the world chat - just send them a message and they'll be so so happy to help, trust me!!
don't be afraid of "not playing well" or anything like that - at lower levels everyone's just there for a good time! take your time, play how you want, go for walks 🥹 and enjoy!! 🧡

Not sure if people follow this tag, but I’m a new LOTRO player looking for a LGBTQ+ Kinship to join! (That’s what y’all call a clan, right?) Would love to do some low level content alongside other folks. 🍄🧙🏳️‍🌈

This title Cerphedis got while exploring today, combined with my kinship name, is suggesting an interesting potential for LOTRO/Pillars of Eternity crossover... :-D

1, 14, 27 for the lotro asks?
1) How did you first get into LotRO? Do you remember when you started playing? I actually started playing right at the very beginning of the pandemic- my mum had covid so she tried it out and recommended it to me! I’ve been playing off and on since then, though i switched servers and started a new main character at one point (so still have never gotten to level cap at all xD)
14) Have you ever come up with personalities and/or stories for your characters? Has it ever resulted in making changes to canon somehow? Yes! Actually, a few of my tolkien ocs are based off of lotro characters (or the other way around)! Aurlea Darling my main is both my lotro player and my oc, she’s a quiet hobbit hunter gradually getting pulled into a story much bigger than her. She’s a skilled archer and gradually builds up her fighting abilites to become a true warrior, but is also quite fond of scholarly pursuits, cooking, and fine drinks. I love really getting into the story when I play LotRO, especially with my favourite questlines (including the Ballad of Bingo Boffin, which I know a lot of people hate but i personally love xD)
27) Do you have any memorable stories about interactions with other people? Nice, funny, just plain weird? Hmm, I’m afraid I don’t have a lot of good stories, though I do have some lovely memories of playing with my friends and my old kinship! Two of my friends and I used to do weekly suicide runs in which we would take our tiny low-levelled characters and try to get as far as we could into the Trollshaws or Eregion, which is surprisingly fun albeit mildly stressful xD

I don't know how many people remember the Duke Nukem Ventrilo harassment video that was like a big meme 15 years ago, well I just listened it today for the first time in over a decade, and realized the guild they're all talking about is a LOTRO kinship. This video my MUD friends and I used to laugh over is a LOTRO thing. !!
But also it was because I added Duke Nukem sound effects to a Discord server I am in, so I'm sorry to those people.

How about 8, 15, and 20 for the LOTRO ask game?
-lotrojourney
Thank you so much for the ask!
8. Do you have a favorite and/or least favorite instance?
I'm going to break this down between "dungeon instances" and "quest instances" because I confused myself about which was intended. :D This is only a sampling, as there are so many to choose from!
For dungeon instances, my favorites include: Inn of the Forsaken for its very interesting mechanics, Carn Dum for the epic screenshots at the end, and Den of Pughlak even though I haven't actually played it myself, it's just such a cool and trippy instance.
My least favorite Dungeon Instances are Mirror-halls of Lumul-nar because I always get lost and can't keep track of the mirrors, and Eithel Gwaur, the Filth-well, because I do not like the sewers, and I also always get lost.
As for quest instances, my favorites include The Blade That was Broken, since it is the culmination of so much hard work and a great look into some behind the scenes of book events, the instance in Imloth Melui with Forlong's wife which I won't name because of spoilers, but it is a little heartbreaking, and it's also chronologically the first time you see Minas Tirith, at least from what I remember (and this might depend on how high your draw distance setting is and how good your computer is at rendering it). Another one that is my favorite is The Darkest Hour just because of how batshit crazy it is. I was constantly in a struggle between utmost confusion and laughing my ass off by the end. Memorably, I remember watching Professor Corey Olsen doing this instance the first time during a LOTRO marathon stream to kick off his Signum U fundraising event, and the look on his face at the end was everything I was hoping for. Also, the level 15 Minstrel class quest instance is a really good one too.
Least favorite quest instances include the level 15 Hunter quest instance because it takes ages to find the stupid wolf you are supposed to kill, and there are respawns >.<, and also The Hideout in the Race of Man prologue because Sara Oakheart is a little bitch, and it kicks off some major Rangercide that makes me sad.
15. Do you have a favorite class to play? A favorite specialization? Red and Blue Hunter, Yellow RK, and I am just loving the crap out of my Beorning. I mostly play her in red because I solo most of the time, but I'm aware that Yellow has insane group healing.
20. Do you spend a lot of time on cosmetics- outfits, weapons, housing, pets? Do you have any favorites?
Oh yes I do spend a lot of time, although it mostly comes in spurts. Weapons I spend the least time on, because while there are some that I think are really cool, it isn't my focus.
For housing I have several houses, one classic Falathlorn Deluxe house, a premium Gondor kinship house for my main kinship, a premium Gondor Luxurious house, and a classic Falathlorn kinship house for my storage kinship. Most of my favorite housing decorations are the Gondorian stuff you get from the Dol Amroth rep vendors, especially the bookshelves and the bookshelf couch (which I desperately want irl), and the decorations from the Midsummer Festival.
Pets are something I spend a lot of time gaining, but not a whole lot of time using, lol. Despite the fact that I rarely use pets, I have several favorites. The Yule Tree Huorn is a pet that came out of Yule Gold Hobbit presents, so it's very rare. I only have 3 across almost 30 characters. I also love the little mumak pet, as the ambient sounds it makes just clash so much with how small it is. That and the Firework Corgi (from the Anniversary Festival bought with Mithril Coin), are the only two pets I've spent Lotro Points on. The Pumpkin Gourd lurker and the Pumpkin Lantern lurker are so cute too!
And, oh, the cosmetics. I could write a 50 page thesis on all the cosmetics I love in this game. 15 years worth of cosmetics is SO MUCH! I am particularly fond of the Simbelmyne Spring Festival dress and tunic, as well as Arwen's dinner dress (it dyes *so well*!) and the dress of Entwining Blossoms, both from the Midsummer Festival. The Vestments of the Autumn Sage are really neat too. Armour-wise, I absolutely love the Tempered Iron Hauberk you can get from a quest in Dunland, and it's also available in Lalia's Market for Mithril Coin. Also, the light armour you get from the High Elf intro (Time Worn Tunic and Waistcoat) is so nice too. Also, the Supple Wildermore Robe (crafted lvl 85 Eastemnet armour) is a really nice traveling wardrobe piece.
I swear I tried to keep this brief! :D Thank you, so much, again, for the ask.
