Once I left the West Hollywood EDITION I walked past The Roxy. I was surprised to see Black Flag on the marquee. Then I chuckled to myself, “Which Black Flag? Isn’t itup to 3 now”. Maybe, it’s the slow Grundy one I saw at the Taco Fest or maybe not. I saw someone I know post a photo of themselves proudly in from of The Roxy yesterday either before or after the show. I chuckled again. 20. BLEACHED

Bleached is a totally awesome garage/punk/pop band from Los Angeles, California, USA. The band was started by Jennifer & Jessie Clavin (formerly of experimental post-hardcore punk band Mika Miko) and later joined up with new members bassist Micayla Grace and drummer Nick Pillot.

Bleached brought new life to the Clavin sisters’ sound in comparison to their previous works (in the very rowdy and rambunctious days of Mika Miko - which I have to mention I still hadn’t seen anyone else rock an old school telephone receiver as a microphone to sing with until Jen Clavin - Excellent!). Bleached has a sound that consists of a variety of elements of rock music - with songs that can range from meaty garage rock riffs (that would make the ‘90s blush) to catchy synth-pop (with an 80s vibe), as well as subtle hints of hardcore punk rock and even classic rock.

The lyrical content provides an honest perspective (fresh with growing pains) and intertwined with personal battles. Between Jen’s bold and fearless vocals partnered with Jessie’s melodic and visceral guitar work (and a kick-ass rhythm section), this band provokes just as much sweetness as they do excitement.

Bleached is one of those bands that provide unique messages in their songs of self-discovery, harsh times, good times, and overall - a sincere vibe that one can have a better way of life without having to give one’s life.
