And here's my new bi-yearly Qi Ye poster! LMAO
The crown prince's party! Jing Beiyuan, Helian Yi, Lu Shen, and He Yunxing!
Oh and that other guy in the back, lol.
A few more details below.
Aside from making it look like a regal portrait, my main focus here was to highlight their personalities and almost make a... teaser? Effect? As in, give a striking image and idea of the characters to someone whho wouldn’t know the story or books.
It was a bit of a technical challenge since this type of lighting isn’t what I'm the most comfortable with. I also had to design Lu Shen and He Yunxing whom I had never drawn before. I'm quite happy with how they came out. I also find Beiyuan’s expression incredibly obnoxious, which is great, and I was happy to push and refine my Helian Yi design.

What if i told you I was working on something...but I have to know if other anyone is interested...
sometime last year I started putting together all of my Qi Ye 七爷, Lord Seventh, sketches, drawings, doodles, all of it, and got it into my brain to turn them into a zine. Although I've never done somehting like this before, I like it a lot and so yeah! This is a very small sneak peak, but I'd like to know if anyone would be interested in that sort of thing!
All the drawings in it that i haven't posted will probably be posted in the future too so even if you weren't interested, I still plan on posting them! :3

Canonicals Tournament Semifinal 1
Tumblr media
Semifinal 1 is between Wu Xi from Qi Ye / Lord Seventh (shizun/mentor: Jing Beiyuan) and Luo Binghe from The Scum Villain's Self-Saving System (shizun: Shen Qingqiu)
Propaganda under the cut! (Warning: Propaganda may include spoilers about the characters and their media)
Wu Xi:
While JBY doesn't have a shizun status officially, he did act as Wu Xi's tutor for a while, and there are quite a few scenes in the novel of him teaching Wu Xi. Anyway imagine you are Wu Xi. You are 11 years old and your country was invaded and you've been taken as a diplomatic hostage. And they want you to assimilate but you've been chasing out all of the teachers with your venomous pets. And then your prettyboy neighbor is like hiiii :] and YOUR SNAKE (that your carry in your sleeve) LIKES HIM. what are you supposed to do then huh. NOT let him teach you? NOT fall in love with him? NOT steal him away from the future Emperor after using things he taught you to win back your country's independence?
#vote wuxi <3#he is down sooo bad for his POETRY tutor#where he learns ROMANTIC POETRY#that he later references#and has his tutor recites to him <3#obsessed with wuxi's propaganda here by the way
#wuxi is down so bad for his poety tutor#asks his tutor about a romantic poem and later his tutor recites it to him<3#wuxi betrothes his tutor to himself before telling him what it means#and later does fuck his tutor#and takes his tutor back to his hometown where they are gay married basically
Luo Binghe:
Luo Binghe's shizun Shen Qingqiu caused his sexual awakening and they lived together with Luo Binghe acting similar to a housewife.
Even after being betayed, stabbed, and pushed into the Endless Abyss, Luo Binghe still loved Shen Qingqiu and wanted answers instead of revenge. Instead he had to repeatedly suffer his shizun dying in his arms and assumed abandonment. Which makes him absolutely lose it, made even worse by his evil sword Xin Mo which worsens all of his negative emotions and destroys its hosts, along with additional trauma over the course of the story.
He reused the sword that his shizun sacrificed himself to free him from, cuddles the corpse every night for five years to preserve it, he creates dreams of their happy years together but never made a Shen Qingqiu that would speak to him, he kidnapped and destroyed cultivators' cores so he could feed xin mo and preserve sqq's corpse, he rebuilds their house in his demonic palace, he spent years fixing sqq's destroyed cultivation and trying to revive him, he forces Shen Qingqiu live in that new house, he rescues and repeatedly puts himself in harms way to protect sqq, he tries to destroy the world so Shen Qingqiu can only love him (due to being driven mad by Xin Mo and his believed abandonment by sqq). He tries to kill himself after Shen Qingqiu dies for him again. He would do absolutely ANYTHING for Shen Qingqiu! He's increadibly jealous of everyone Shen Qingqiu gives attention to, including stairsweeps he smiles at. Luo Binghe has sooo much wrong with him and it makes him so lovable. He's so incredibly traumatized, driven by love and desperation for a majority of the story. He loves Shen Qingqiu so much and can't bear to live without him.
After everything? He lets Shen Qingqiu go, wanting him to be happy even if it means sqq won't stay with him. But sqq wanted to stay together! He gets his man! There is in world porn written about them, they have weird kinky sex inspired by the porn, they get married! Luo Binghe cries regularly for sqq, so sqq can dote on him despite his thin face. Luo Binghe is shameless and adores sqq. Lbh got so nervous that he fell flat on his face when proposing! Lbh loves sqq so much and wants him to be happy more than anything else!
More on disciple era:
Luo Binghe's sexual awakening was his shizun tied up and shirtless. He fell in love after Shen Qingqiu got poisoned protecting him. He moved into his shizun's house and handled all of the cooking and cleaning, would regularly fake fall into Shen Qingqiu during training to get hugs. He got a boner from being forcibly cuddled to heal his injuries. And ran to jump into a lake after being spanked for struggling too much during the forced cuddling. Sqq still never noticed lbh's affections.
--
It took him like 3(three) interactions with nice shizun (transmigrator who replaced his old one) to fall irrevocably in love. baby boy was ready he had mommy issues daddy issues and honestly by that time shizun issues too... luckily his new shizun can fill all those roles and more!
#lbh is THE shizunfucker
#binghe calling him shizun is a kink at some point its definitely him
#vote binghe!!#he wanted to fuck shizun so much that shizun died twice for him

"Shixiong"
or, alternative title: "The destruction of the dream" more info below (and spoilers for Qi Ye/Lord Seventh, too...)
So I like to spend my time imagining what my ideal Qi Ye donghua adaptation would look like, and after recently talking at lenght about LJX and ZZS, I was in the mood to picture some of my favourite scenes involving them. Listening to one music in particular (Empire Systems, by Raphael Anton Irisarri), I was suddenly hit by this image of LJX leaving ZZS' office as he went to see him for the first time after being told that ZZS & JBY were behind the Jiang family massacre. That time, he doesn't confront ZZS yet, rather trying to obtain a proof of ZZS providing the drugged wine to JBY. He leaves, and at that moment, when he does get that proof, when he does realise that what he was told is probably true, ...naturally, his whole world collapses. So far, he was already fragile, burdened by grief and guilt, for having failed at his mission, for having slept in, for having lost so many people he cherished; and now, he's losing his one true pillar, the "person who loved him the most", the person whom he himself had always looked up to... And then that's all he can see; that dream he'd loved so much, him and ZZS walking through the peach tree orchards, wandering together - now, there is only death and pain. I wanted to depict that, the destruction, corruption of the dream, of his shixiong. I feel like the dream is the representation of Jiuxiao's world (outside of reality, partly revolving around ZZS, literally rose-coloured), and that world has momentarily collapsed. In the end, unable to stand it, he decides to... rewrite reality in his own way, shifting the blame on HLY, trying to preserve what it used to be, preserve ZZS' image, because ultimately reality is the hardest to bear. I think that my goal here was to represent destruction, the absence of safety, the place of comfort now corrupted. I named it "shixiong" because first and foremost, I see it as... the tragedy of how for a moment, that's the only way LJX can ever think of ZZS: a dark, threatening shadow who destroyed his whole world.
As a side note, and because I need to gush about it: HELP I think that LJX and ZZS' storyline in QY is truly, truly brilliant and absolutely gut wrenching and I'm so glad I read QY.

Oh, but Wu Xi is everything Helian Yi could not be to Jing Qi.
He is the one who sees him. Who waits for him patiently for half a year to return, while Helian Yi first and foremost waits for results, not the person.
It's not even subtext. That one is pretty much text. But it's more than that.
Throughout the entire story, Helian Yi and Jing Qi are connected through their scheming of getting HY on the throne. From what we learn of Jing Qi's first lifetime, it seems to have been the same back then.
Wu Xi is the only one not connected to that plot at all. He does not care about it much. He is around solely for Jing Qi, only interested in him as a person, does not actually need him to succeed on his own throne, he has that baby in the bag.
During every lifetime, Helian Yi finds something more important than Jing Qi. Something to take his attention. To keep him from being with Jing Qi.
Wu Xi, on the other hand? He chooses to place Jing Qi first. When Helian Yi marries an official consort, Wu Xi decides that he will only marry Jing Qi. Who cares about offspring, or the opinions of others? Who cares that he is state leader and has to protect his image? He marries for love, while Helian Yi eschews love to marry.
Wu Xi chooses Jing Qi and does so aggressively. No subtext. Boy goes all out. After six (five) lifetimes of having to run after his fated love, Jing Qi now gets to be the one who is courted. He does not have to work for this love, does not have to sacrifice, never. He is allowed to take and indulge and let himself be loved, just like that.
For five lifetimes, Helian Yi was the source of Jing Qi's death. Either he killed him outright, or he caused his death. But then, when Jing Qi is once again this close to dying for him, practically already given up on life, Wu Xi appears and saves him. Wu Xi does not demand that Jing Qi dies for him, he demands that Jing Qi lives for him.
Helian Yi is Jing Qi's death.
Wu Xi is his life.
