G1 Climax B Block finals preview

Will Ospreay (4-2, 8 points) vs. El Phantasmo (3-3, 6 points) - Only one of these guys can join Kazuchika Okada in the quarterfinals. If ELP wins, he'll have the tiebreaker over everyone else who can finish at 8, so he'll clinch second place. If Ospreay wins or the match goes to a draw, then Okada and Ospreay advance and ELP is out.

By the end of 2019, El Phantasmo was 3-2 in singles matches against Ospreay. Since then, of course, Ospreay moved up to the heavyweight division, won the IWGP world title, and feuded with the likes of Okada and Kenny Omega. Main event headliner Ospreay is unbeaten against Phantasmo, who just hasn't been in his league So as it stands now, ELP is a heavy underdog looking for a career-defining upset win against a top guy.

Phantasmo is clearly the sympathetic favorite, after getting kicked out of Bullet Club, turning over a new leaf, and giving a heartfelt speech about learning his grandfather died during the tournament. That alone won't help him get a win over Ospreay. What will help, though, is that New Japan isn't going to want all their top guys in the quarterfinals, because then half of them would have to do jobs. If Ospreay beats ELP and doesn't win the G1, he's a choke artist. If ELP beats Ospreay and gets eliminated in his next match, he's a success story. So I think everything points to Phantasmo closing the show with a touching babyface promo in Osaka.

Kazuchika Okada (5-1, 10 points) vs. Tanga Loa (3-3, 6 points) - Okada has clinched a spot in the quarterfinals, it's just a question of whether he's in first or second place. If Ospreay wins his match, Okada needs a win or draw to stay in first.

Loa can only reach second place if he wins here, and Taichi doesn't win his match, and Ospreay vs. Phantasmo is ruled a no-contest. Realistically, though, that's not going to happen, so he'll have to settle for trying to get a win over the GOAT, which would at least be a nice feather in his cap. But as usual, I don't bet against Okada; he's winning this block.

Taichi (3-3, 6 points) vs. Great-O-Khan (2-4, 4 points) - Taichi technically could reach second place if he wins and no points are awarded in Ospreay vs. Phantasmo, but I find that highly unlikely. Khan is totally eliminated and mainly fighting to stay out of last place.

I would have expected Taichi to finish with a higher score this year, considering that he's become a fan favorite and he leads his own faction now. On the bright side for him, he was the first man in the block to beat Will Ospreay, so I think that almost guarantees him an IWGP United States title match on the next tour. I would imagine KENTA will challenge Taichi for the KOPW title at some point as well, unless Khan wins here and makes a challenge right away.

The English commentary team has been really selling the idea that Khan is demoralized by his losses in this year's tournament, and he needs to rebuild. I'd like to see that lead to something, but sometimes the English announcers just write their own storylines without any insight into what the actual booker is planning. I'm guessing Taichi wins here and Khan just keeps being the spooky mean guy that can't beat anybody when it counts.

KENTA (2-4, 4 points) vs. YOSHI-HASHI (2-4, 4 points) - Both guys are done and trying to stay out of last place. Yoshi used to be a lovable loser but New Japan started taking him more seriously after the put the IWGP heavyweight tag title on him and Hirooki Goto. Even so, when it comes to singles action he isn't doing much better now than a few years ago. Kenta should probably win here.

Tetsuya Naito & Shingo Takagi & Yota Tsuji & BUSHI vs. EVIL & Yujiro Takahashi & SHO & Dick Togo - This is to build to Takagi vs. Evil on August 8. It's basically the same match from the night before, except with Tsuji and Togo added to it. Togo is probably going to cost his team the match.

Eddie Kingston & Togi Makabe vs. David Finlay & Chase Owens - Kingston vs. Finlay is set for August 8. I'd normally expect Makabe to take the loss in this match, since everyone else is in the tournament. But Owens is already eliminated and he's a glorified jobber. This could actually go either way, I think.

Jeff Cobb & HENARE vs. Tama Tonga & Hiroyoshi Tenzan - Henare will meet Tonga on August 8. If not for that, I'd expect New Japan to seriously consider jobbing out Henare, because I'm impatient with them to take him seriously. But under the circumstances, Tenzan has to drop the fall.

Hiroshi Tanahashi & Tomohiro Ishii vs. Mikey Nicholls & Kosei Fujita - Another preview match, this time for Ishii vs. Nicholls on August 8. Fujita is a full member of TMDK alongside Nicholls, but he's still just a glorified Young Lion, which means he's bound to lose this match.

SANADA & DOUKI vs. Kaito Kiyomiya & Ryohei Oiwa - This one feels kind of random. Oiwa pretty much has to lose.

The Color of Air by Gail Tsukiyama

IWGP World Heavyweight Championship: Will Ospreay [United Empire] d. Kota Ibushi © (Stormbreaker, 30:13) - Ibushi fails his 1st defense of the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship - Ospreay is the 2nd champion

Immediately post-match, Jeff Cobb of the United Empire flattened Ibushi with a Tour Of The Islands. I expect there to be a grudge match there soon. Ospreay now holds two titles (including RevPro’s Undisputed British Heavyweight belt), and immediately called out Kazuchika Okada for his first defense, however Shingo Takagi interrupted that, and declared he wanted a shot at it. So, I guess it’s Shingo first, probably at Wrestling Dontaku, then presumably Okada at Dominion.

There is a lot to unpack here. After all the hemming and hawing on the part of both Kota Ibushi and New Japan Pro Wrestling about “becoming God,” unifying the titles, committing to an angle that clearly was not popular, the very first defense of the new title goes to Ospreay, whom Gedo and the bookers clearly like. However, between his antics both on social media, and #SpeakingOut, and the recent angle where he gave an OsCutter to Bea Priestley to show just how much he wanted the title that didn’t even go over well with the fans in attendance, this is a wrestler that has alienated a not-small chunk of the New Japan Pro Wrestling audience. It was clear that at some point, Ospreay was going to be IWGP champion. Nobody really expected it to be now, so soon after Ibushi won and unified the titles. This show was pretty United Empire-centric, however, so maybe we should have seen this coming. The fact of the matter is, NJPW have put their brand new main title on someone that legitimately repulses a portion of the NJPW audience.

The only real positive to take from this, is that historically, brand new IWGP champions generally (GENERALLY) have short first title reigns. Recent examples would include Tetsuya Naito, Jay White and EVIL. Historically, Big Van Vader, Tatsumi Fujinami, Riki Choshu, Shinsuke Nakamura and Masahiro Chono (his only reign, cut short due to injury) all had relatively short first reigns with few defenses. It’s the exceptions that you would expect, that have had more significant first reigns -- Antonio Inoki, Keiji Muto/Great Muta, Shinya Hashimoto, Kensuke Sasaki, Hiroshi Tanahashi, Kazuchika Okada, AJ Styles, Kenny Omega. Kota Ibushi’s, frankly, is a little more inflated than it actually was, due to all the drama about unification, as well as the 2-night Wrestle Kingdom 15, making it seem longer than it actually was. I’m pretty sure Ospreay is not going to have a long reign, no longer than Dominion. They seem to be following the pattern of Tetsuya Naito c. 2016 with this storyline, so I expect Shingo to fall at Wrestling Dontaku (a la Tomohiro Ishii) with Okada once more winning this title at Dominion. 

To keep up with the United Empire line of thought, the new X member was Toa Henare (so @damascenocs​ was right again), although going back to being billed as Aaron Henare. (I can’t quite seem to locate when and where he quit going by “Aaron Henry” before going to Henare, and then Toa Henare.) There is kind of a gross subtext here, with Henare being a New Zealander, aka a former British colony, and reverting from a “more native” sounding name like Toa Henare to going by a “civilized, colonial name” in Aaron Henare. Like so many things with regard to Will Ospreay, there is a distinct lack of reading the room here. On the other hand, I don’t actually MIND Henare being part of this, they needed to do something with him after just spinning his wheels in opening tag matches and only ever getting wins over Young Lions for the last few years. He has a new finisher too, sort of a Fisherman’s Death Valley Driver, called Streets Of Rage, a name I confess I love. Post-match, O-Khan attacked Naito’s knee with a chair, so I fully expect this feud to go on for a bit.

In other news about new moves, YOH returned to in-ring action today teaming with SHO, and delivered the winning blow to get the IWGP junior tag belts back around RPG3K’s waists. This new move is called Direct Drive, looks like a butterfly brainbuster or DDT (maybe a bit like Death Rider?). YOH then immediately challenged El Desperado for the IWGP Juniorheavyweight title, which would be YOH’s first-ever I believe. I fully expected this scenario to happen, only with SHO instead. But hey, YOH is back and that’s good.

Post-match, Tanahashi put Jay White into a Texas Cloverleaf, but also finally accepted Jay’s challenge for the NEVER Openweight strap. A challenge has been made by a Bullet Club tandem (KENTA, Yujiro, Ishimori) for the NEVER Openweight 6-Man belts held by Ishii/Goto/YOSHI-HASHI. And finally, Taichi demanded NJPW return the Iron Finger from Hell, implying the office has confiscated it. Hmm.

It wasn’t all bad, but the bad taste left by Will Ospreay and the United Empire, after all the hoopla about the IWGP World Heavyweight title, shows this may in fact be a long year for New Japan Pro Wrestling.

The next show is this Saturday, the beginning of the Wrestling Dontaku cycle. No lineups are announced yet. Probably later tonight or Monday sometime.

Don't recall when I was thrown into the world, does anyone? My first memory was in some kind of mansion where the sun filtered through a round stained glass window. A big man with a messy beard, wisping out like excremental cotton candy from his face stood over me. I saw a couple of fools, my parents looking up at me as I floated into the air. I was levitating, but the big fat Doktor just looked straight ahead, so ends this little wash of recall. I was around three years old in the house. I was at a neighbours house when a toy gun clipped my fingers and the metal took a chunk of skin out. I did not cry. The old neighbours; man and wife, laughed about how tough I was, and then giggled when I began to black out. For some reason I hated these people, I hurled a rock at their car when they were driving to go see a parade, put a big dent in the door. My mom spanked me so hard I saw my feet fly in the air. Sometimes I would walk around the neighbourhood and not remember leaving the house, ringing doorbells and running away. My Mom got tired of this and put me in preschool, sometimes sick, where I would barf until one of the teachers covered it up with sand. There was one teacher who was an evil looking woman with eyes like the demoness Lilith, Adam's first devil-wife. She and another woman gave me a ride home, but I don't remember ever getting home actually, I don't remember where I ended up on that ride. One day I was wandering around the neighborhood again, and I peeked through a mail-slot in a door and I saw a room with velvet red drapes. I saw an altar with an inverted pentagram, with candles which were not lit. The Chalice, The Bell, The Sword, I knew what these were but I had no words for them, I had somehow been in that house but I did not recall ever going there. Weird things happen when your only three, in some ways you are already old. I saw too the vast room filled with hooded figures! A giant Jackal-Headed statue black as night around 200 feet tall, was flanked by braziers wafting clouds of incense. Beneath the vast altar was a huge pit with low burning fires. The small sacrifices were hurled like soccer-balls; soaring through the air into the flaming pit. Pitiful cries and screams of torment were heard. In this way the forgotten ones of the maternity wards were given a manifest destiny. I was scared, but a priest told me that I "need not fear in that my hourglass had red sand." After my parents split up I ended up in a big house, bigger than the one before. I found crucifixes made out of wood and for some reason I liked to turn them upside-down and break them into peace signs, but the sides would not hold and would fall on the ground. I then found my sisters old barbies and scraped the boobs off of them against the wall so they would be flat chested. I was around 8 years old when this happened. When I was nine I developed a craving for wanting to drink human blood. My friends would cut themselves and let me drink their blood. Their parents found out about this and called my folks, and my folks were alarmed by this disturbed behavior. They took me back to the Doktor with the wispy beard that looked like cotton candy made out of shit. The Doktor told my parents that their was nothing wrong with me, just going through a weird phase. This Doktor pretended to talk with a German accent, but I knew he was faking!! He knew that I knew, and gave me a mean look. He had dead eyes. I was a teenager and an occult shop opened up where I lived. It was run by a real fortunate son, he seemed very fortunate which was strange in that the shop was not doing that well. I started doing a lot of acid in those days, and would practice black magick rites in the makeshift temple in the back. Once I did a ceremony to summon the 7 Crown Princes of Hell. Only Belial showed up, he materialized in the incense outside of the magic circle. He gave me two visions: The first one was of a witch cackling and stirring a giant cauldron, on a very dark night. The second was of a naked man taking in a giant beam of celestial fire; drinking it into his face, with his arms outstretched and his legs parted in a standing embrace. I still don't know what this signified. At the occult shop one day I also met a company man. I was 26 and it was a very bad year. Too much debauchery had caught up with me, as well as other things. I spent some time in nuthouse, but a nice shrink helped me recover. He gave me Dilantin and Centrax at the same time, it kept me in a mellow mood. After I got outta stir I moved in with a very weird madlady who indeed was legion. She was a lot of people in one person, and I did not like any of them and they did not like me. Except for two exceptions: I liked the little kid that came out as her sometimes, and the old medicine woman. The little girl told me all about the company, and how they like to turn one person into a whole bunch of people; and tell them to do things with the same body. Its a hobby of theirs, a game, maybe even a joke, but its a killing joke. I thought the story she told me was about as daft as a flying doughnut. After awhile I believed it but she was such a bitch I could not stand her and moved out. I did not care about all the spy stories, or politics at all. I was an occultist! She said she knew more about the Occult than I did. She was lying. The last thing she said was this: "Your just like all the bad people, because you think that life is meaningless!" Whatever. I was 31, and I met up again with the fortunate son in VEGAZ; another cult scene, but not too hairy. He was a big dip-waffle who tried to use me and did. But he needed me, as he was in the market for a MAGUZ. No modesty is not one of my traits. I cannot afford to let it be, due to the fact that I am a collossal failure. I learned to put myself in really great trance states and bring down demons into my body. I could still maintain control though, and could kick them out at any time. We called down voodoo loa, devils and demons as cute as the conqueror worm. We hurled astral shit through the vortex; flinging it at the enemies of the fortunate son. One of his enemies succumbed to the sorcery; a woman had an asthma attack and died. The enemy coven thought that our magick did this, and the girl's mother called the fortunate one and cursed him on the phone. The fortunate one got freaked out and sent flowers to her funeral, thus denying that he cursed her and denying the devils that slew a-one in his name. Like Peter denying the Savior the curse rebounded on Fortuno's head and his life turned into shit. I got sick of him using me, so I cursed him as well. I would drink bottles of rum and evoke the Petro Loa and dance around the altar, flinging hateful laughter and raging curses upon his worthless ass. It seemed to make things worse for him which delighted me. At this time too I met this guy who was a big fat liar who said his uncle invented Ritz crackers. He said he was related to a big-band leader with a big beat. He told me that he was levitated high up over the ocean and floated into a cave on a summit of the Na Pali Coast in Kwaii. When he got floated into the cave he met a Kahuna Shaman who instructed him in the delicacies of Sumerian Sorcery. This guy's mind was as fried-out as a toasted jaybird in a torched forest. And damn it, he made friends with another one of those people who was a bunch of people in one body! A girl who was a martial arts and weapons expert, on top of everything else! She knew about the fat liar's uncle and his big beat band: "Booker M.K. & The Ultras." One day she was flipping out and Fatso panicked and brought me down there. I told her that a mandala was one image, yet it had many facets, many in one, and one in many was still one. Finally she mellowed out. I was really scared, because she had a black belt in Karate and was a weapons expert, I on the other hand was a wuss who had only shot a B.B. gun at age 12. She was real nice to me and said that she would protect me from enemies, but Fatso got between us and kept her away. At that time I was just getting through day by day, and did not care. Although I did once bring down spirits that came through my body and cracked the inside of a crystal that I held in my hands. So goes it. Amused and bemused; this story is a tragedy in a laugh, and a laugh with a crying face. I found out later that Doktor Shit-Beard ate some Uranium 235 and bought the farm; ded of cancer. That's the funny part, so you can laugh now!! But you know, when the Romans sacked Jerusalem and routed the Second Temple in Palestine, they killed a lot of Hebrews and impaled babies on their swords. But the thing is, is that this has never stopped. There are many walking wounded amongst you, who are locked in gulags with invisible walls, tormented by translucent tech. hands, mocked by unseen voices. There are mindless masses and complicit Doktors who will just call all this madness. Perhaps this is why I thanked God, when I had that dream about the world being destroyed by nuclear weapons. I got out my last praise indeed; right at the moment where I lost all my atoms.

There are lots of ways to treat and greet an oncoming New Year with possibility.

We can commit to resolutions.

We can assess the stats of our goal attainment for the last year and make new stretch commitments.

We can capture our intentions of who we want to be in the next 12 months in a theme, and make plans to live by that theme…posting reminders everywhere.

Yet, in any and all ways we propose to take our life into new realms of who or where we can be and what we can do or have in the next 365 days or less, know that it will invite obstacles.

We can’t expand until stretched to new proportions, and many a resolution, goal or theme are abandoned when the invited roadblocks naturally come.

When JFK was rousing American sentiment to take on a huge commitment to the space program, he quoted a story told by Irish writer Frank O’Conner. O’Conner and his childhood friends would walk the countryside trying to find the biggest wall, and then throw their hats over it.

In those days, your hat was a prized possession, and your mother would be quite upset were you to show up at the end of the day without it. So, this left the boys with no option but to find some way over that wall to retrieve their hats.

Though one could make an argument – from a Law of Attraction perspective – that inviting struggle is a no no…I believe it’s all in the flavor and intent of the invitation.

Most folks invite struggle all the time, albeit unconsciously, through the obsolete or unexamined attitudes they bring with them as baggage into any new job, business, relationship, hobby, venture, activity, or group. That is what LOA is speaking to.

However, to set one’s sites on some rather extraordinary ways one wants to be, do and have life, to get into the actions, mindset and visioning process of achieving those be/do/haves, and then to invite with willing abandon all that the Universe needs to bring to support you to have it – good, bad and ugly) — that’s another thing entirely.

We might call that an act of realistic and practical intention. A good phrase I once heard, for it is “Throwing yourself on the sword.” Not waiting to be cut open, but offering yourself to such a process for the sake of the greater Self, breaking free within.

This takes Back Forty Boldness, and definitely Back Forty Badassity…and yet, what else do you have to do in the next 40 years anyway?

Though contrary to the giddiness of listing high aims and objectives, perhaps a sober and conscious Open Letter of Invitation to Obstacles over the next few days will serve our 2017 of growth even better.

Manabu Nakanishi in AJPW 2/11/2020; Full Talent Announcement for Lion’s Break: Project 3; Rumblings About Who Will Not Be At Wrestle Dynasty

This was actually announced almost a week ago but I kept forgetting to mention it: the full talent lineup for the Lion’s Break: Project 3 show has been announced. This will happen at the Ritz Ybor in Tampa, FL, as part of WrestleCon during Wrestlemania Weekend on 4/2/2020. The full slate is:

Hiroshi Tanahashi, Juice Robinson, David Finlay Jr., Rocky Romero, Shingo Takagi, Tama Tonga, Tanga Loa, KENTA, Bad Luck Fale, Taiji Ishimori, El Phantasmo, Jado, Gedo, El Desperado, Zack Sabre Jr., Ren Narita, Clark Connors, Alex Coughlin, Karl Fredericks, Amazing Red, TJP, Misterio, Logan & Sterling Riegel. 

So this is very heavy on Bullet Club and LA Dojo and related talents. Not really a surprise. What is surprising is that two of the more popular roster members in the USA, Jay White and Minoru Suzuki, are not slated for this show, even tho both are definitely booked elsewhere during Mania weekend, as Jay has been challenged by ROH booker Marty Scurll for a match at Supercard of Honor XIV, whilst Suzuki has been announced for two matches at GCW events, against Chris Dickinson at Josh Barnett’s Bloodsport 3, and v. Orange Cassidy at the Joey Janela’s Spring Break show. Perhaps they could still appear as run-ins?

At some point, I’ll post a full list of the NJPW-related matches happening during that weekend.

Manabu Nakanishi made his final appearance in All Japan Pro Wrestling on Tuesday, at the Korakuen Hall opener for the Excite Series 2020 tour. Nakanishi teamed with Jun Akiyama and two former contemporaries in NJPW, Osamu Nishimura & Yutaka Yoshie, in a winning effort against a tandem consisting of Yoshihiro Tajiri, another former NJPW wrestler in Yoshitatsu, Ryoji Sai & Dan Tamura. It was a fun little romp, with Nakanishi getting the win over Tamura with his Torture Rack Argentine backbreaker. The main event of the show saw Triple Crown champion Kento Miyahara tie the legend Toshiaki Kawada’s defense record of 10 successful defenses, beating former Lion’s Gate guest Yuma Aoyagi to do so. Afterwards Miyahara was challenged by current AJPW WOrld Tag Team co-champion Suwama to be his possible record-breaking defense.

Meanwhile, Wrestle Dynasty was only announced this past Sunday, however we are already being told who will NOT be on the show. It seems AEW are getting the word out pretty quickly that neither Chris Jericho nor Jon Moxley will be allowed to work the Madison Square Garden event, which is only fair, I guess, as AEW have exclusive contracts for the pair in the USA (although that isn’t stopping Moxley from making good on a previous postponed booking v. Josh Barnett at Bloodsport 3). MInd you, we still could see NJPW and AEW come to some sort of agreement, which has been already championed by Le Champion. 

In other NJPW-adjacent AEW news, Jeff Cobb made a shock appearance on last night’s episode of Dynamite, and will be facing Mox in Atlanta next Wednesday. However, there are numerous reports that Cobb has not signed a full-time AEW contract, and he is still a free agent, meaning he can work whereever he wants, including NJPW. Until that changes, of course. I hope he does still come to NJPW, however, as the company, and the fans, are very high on him. Stay tuned.

All four who demanded to be let in to G1 Climax at Dominion are in: Jon Moxley, Shingo Takagi, KENTA and Will Ospreay. Taichi finally gets his entry as well, having been excluded last year. ROH’s Jeff Cobb also makes his debut, and rightly so, acting as a stand-in for the departed *spits* Michael Elgin. Lance Archer and Bad Luck Fale also make their returns to the tournament. Two names shockingly left out: Satoshi Kojima and Minoru Suzuki. If last year’s was to be Kojima’s last, he missed it as he was out injured, and should be allowed to have a proper final tournament. Suzuki being left out is a pisser, as he can still go. But with this many debutants, someone had to be left out. I can see a few on this list who could have safely missed this. 

Tomorrow will be the revelation of the main events of each night. The tour starts on 7/6/2019 in Dallas, and ends on 8/12/2019 at Tokyo Nippon Budokan.

Lots of rumors going around right now, so cue up Timex Social Club. 

Reports were circulating yesterday that Davey Boy Smith Jr. is done in New Japan. He is currently the MLW Tag Team co-champion, and has been pretty vocal recently on his social media, etc., on his dissatisfaction with the booking in NJPW. So that’s the end of the Killer Elite Squad, at least for NJPW, and explains why Lance (Hoyt) Archer is solo right now. 

On that note, there were reports going around Friday that Gedo stepped down as booker of NJPW right before Dominion, which seem to be getting debunked. I don’t know. I haven’t been sure of who has been booking NJPW since Harold Meij came in charge in June 2018, as the inconsistency made it seemed like it was booked by committee. So we still don’t know who exactly has the book in NJPW. Or something.

There are also reports that Juice Robinson, despite spearheading the Lifeblood unit, is done in Ring of Honor, and does not want to be booked there in the future.  Additionally, it seems there are quite a few NJPW talents who also do not want to take ROH bookings right now, if reports are to be believed. I can believe that part of it, as ROH is trash, and it will be pretty obvious to the talents that it’s trash. All you have to do is look at the MSG show and see which parts went flawlessly and which... didn’t.

Mind you, most of these reports are coming from one source, and while they may be accurate, they may also not be.

The tour resumed today, the first of three nights at Tokyo Korakuen Hall. There was a title match today, as well as a shuffling of the card, as now Kota Ibushi wants to face Tetsuya Naito the rest of the tour, following Naito’s challenge to Ibushi for the IWGP Intercontinental title on Saturday. So basically, Ibushi and Rocky Romero are switching places the rest of the tour. OK.

Jay cheated to win, natch. Dragon Lee came out wearing a half-mask with his own and Kamaitachi’s mixed, in tribute to Hiromu. Aww.

MVP + Taguchi retain the Comedy Belts, however GOD attacked Yano post-match. Makabe beat back GOD, whilst Yano re-stole the IWGP Heavyweight tag team belts. EVIL & Ishii brawled again post-match. Liger and Suzuki continue to go back and forth with one another.

Riki Choshu is retiring from wrestling after 50 years, on 6/26/2019 at Tokyo Korakuen Hall. The event is completely sold out, and there is talk of simulcasting the event at cinemas all over Japan. So this is a pretty big deal. Choshu retired once before, of course, on January 4, 1998, at the Tokyo Dome, ostensibly to concentrate on being the head booker of NJPW, but would return to ring action against Atsushi Onita on 7/30/2000 in a No Rope Explosive Barbed Wire Deathmatch at Yokohama Arena. He would leave NJPW in 2002 after being demoted as head booker, following the defections of Keiji Muto, Satoshi Kojima & Kendo Ka Shin to AJPW.

In any event, his retirement match is now set, and NJPW luminaries past and present will be in the 6-man tag match. For the current NJPW workers, Tomohiro Ishii will be teaming alongside Choshu and Shiro Koshinaka against a team of Tatsumi Fujinami, Keiji Muto (who really oughta consider retirement himself, and I say that with him being my all time favorite wrestler) & Togi Makabe. I am pretty sure this show will make tape, and with Makabe & Ishii, might even make NJPWWorld.  We shall see.

The tour continues tomorrow, live on NJPWWorld. The roster for Best of the Super Juniors 26 will be announced during this time, and I think we are all hoping and praying for one name to be announced... if he is ready for it.
