About Time’s trauma
(Yeah we’re doing this)
So, I like to think that the Hero of Time does not remember the time he spent in the spirit realm. He spent seven years in solitary confinement… the least the goddesses could do was remove that burden from his consciousness.
Except they didn’t, completely.
Because when he sleeps, he doesn’t dream - he returns to that place, that endless, white void. Perhaps it’s a blip in the system, an aspect that the goddesses forgot to take into account. Maybe it’s intentional. He wouldn’t know.
Every day, he wakes up with no recollection of any of it. But whoever’s with him (read: Malon), can see him thrashing and clearly not having a good time while he is asleep. She asks about it, of course – several times, to no avail. Because he genuinely can’t answer her questions.
But he talks in his sleep, and Malon is able to piece together the little bits of information she gets.
Anyway there’s that and then there’s tHe mOoN

sorry I'm having late night majora's mask thoughts and they might be half thoughts and not super coherent, but... the fact that link learns the song of healing from the happy mask salesman from an organ...... like... I don't know, I'm wondering how that fits into this whole healing thing, since what he heard from an organ last time was basically the source of all his trauma, now becoming the first anchor to help people moving on (starting with himself)
I don't know, it's also the thing about koume and kotake being basically kind swamp grandmas in this one despite the gerudos being pretty much still gerudos (even arguably crueler) otherwise...
like I don't know if that's anything, but I'm wondering how his time in Termina helps Link process This Gigantic Part of his trauma, and how that ties up with Skull Kid and Majora (and the moon itself, awful and horrendous and destructive from outside then incredibly calm and beautiful and childlike within)... and what he gets out of this and reapplies to Hyrule later, especially given we're in the backstory of Twilight Princess and we all know how that goes!!!
I don't know, I always felt like Ganondorf (and Zelda, and any of the major NPCs) just not being present in the game (Zelda memories/fisherman situation not accounted for) was actually a pretty potent choice, because these characters are everywhere but in a distilled form; and I think Ganondorf especially (given he's the reason Link is not doing fine in the first place) exists in the moon, the Mask, Skull Kid, Ikana...
But also it's a game with such tenderness for the monsters (the re-deads dance when nobody is looking, the mummy is a loving father that his daughter tries to protect from you, the dekus are fully fledged people...), and it's a game that rejects evil as a fixed characteristic safe for the corrupting object (AND EVEN THEN you get the moon's insides where every boss becomes a literal child), so I can't help but wonder how Link's little brain is processing this whole mess on uhhh This Side of the equation
(I'm taking on the metaphor angle, I'm not onboard for the "it's all a dream" game theory sides of things, I think it can both happen for real and be a metaphor at the same time, to clarify, and I think it's the most interesting setup narratively so vOv)

Saw a comment saying the writer was mad that totk ended az happily as it did and that there were no consequences. Ngl it irked my soul. Yeah after Breath of Wild Zelda and Link deserved a fucking break, okay? All their friends and family are dead, their home will never be the same, they collectively fought ganon for 100 years, THEY SUFFERED ENOUGH. They deserved a game where everything turned out great in the end.
Also the game is still very much about grief??? And there were still consquences???? Just not ones that give Zelda a cool dragon form. Which is sad but I think we'll get over it.q

WHATS WITH THE FIERCE DIETY
OH IM SO GLAD YOU ASKED.
I AM A FIRM BELIEVER IN FIERCE DADITY AND THE IDEA THAT FD CARES FOR MASK AND WANTS THE BEST FOR HIM. BUT LIKE ALSO. THE MASK IS A PARASITE. LET ME EXPLAIN.
Just a heads up- this is actually like. Kinda gory?? I guess??
So the masks have spirits within them, yeah? And when Mask wears them, he’s allowing those spirits to use his body as a vessel. Yeah, Mask is the one in charge, but the transformation masks are still whole other entities using Mask’s body as a “host” so that their own forms can be used. The FD mask is no different. It’s a parasite!!! The deity cant exist without Link’s help!!!!
Except I took the definition of “parasite” and said “okay but literally”. The masks literally invade Mask’s physical form and take over with their own. Every time Mask puts the FD mask on, the mask tears its way into his body. Those scars on Mask’s face in my art reopen every time he wears the mask, because those tendrils from the FD mask literally connect to him, attaching itself physically to this kid. When Mask takes the mask off, he is removing something that is a part of him. He’s literally tearing away something that was attached to him and became a part of him. It’s like (and I’m sorry for this comparison because yeowch) removing your fingernail but like worse because it’s inside of you.
Fierce Deity is aware of the toll this takes on Mask. He’s aware that he is dangerous and is hurting this kid against his own will, but Mask is stubborn and FD is powerless to actually stop the kid from wearing the mask. So instead he devotes his abilities to protecting the kid when he’s needed, doing whatever he can to win a battle or a fight so that he can be safe in the long run.

Ppl get so pissed that botw and totk's music isn't "iconic" enough like the older games, but like
*grabbing you*
Look me dead in the eye and tell me you want to hear the exact same 1 to 3 minute loop of notes over and over and over for several hours while you're trying to do literally anything at all.
Like- completionists, you're going to all the shrines [120 in botw, 152 in totk], collecting all the korok seeds [900 in botw, 1000 in totk], doing side quests, finishing your hyrule compendium and so on. That takes a long ass time, do you really want to hear a song you might not even like for a minimum of 190 hours?
Botw and Totk are very audio focused games in terms of gameplay anyway. The devs put a lot of effort into the sound design of the game. How are you supposed to feel like you're sneaking through a dangerous area when you have a constant tune playing in your ears 24/7.
Besides, with how sparse the main overworld music is, it makes the parts of the game that have actual songs in it count so much more. Instead of having constant noise and 1 or 2 songs that stand out, now you have more impact because the music kicks in when its important for it to be there.
Ik people were probably gonna hate the botw/totk ost if it was like the older games anyway because of those points. So it's a double-edged sword, but the way the ost is now? It's supposed to be like that. It fits the format, the sound design, and the length of the game. Which was the point.

Kinda personal but about Tumblr
I just wanna say I'm probably gonna pick Tumblr back up as my main and now only social because I can't stand Instagram anymore and that's all that was left.
Since the editor change hasn't effected my gif quality (Tho I'll no longer be dealing with HTML cause it's a different headache with this editor I feel) and this blog is the main reason I'm even still on this site, if you see a follow from me after years of interaction through here but nothing else, it's because I felt I was never active enough to bother, cause I didn't look at my dash.
Now there's other PSO content so. More reason to look at my dash. And I need something that isn't Instagram to scroll idly when my dogs don't show up at work lmao.
So? Thanks Phantasy Star fandom for making the NSFW ban irrelevant to me 🙃🥰 (why I stopped using tumblr and why my old account kept getting shadowbanned and i made a new one but still fuck u tumblr for not letting me appreciate hot nakey anime grills the same)

I have a majora’s mask tattoo and the uptick of people talking about/asking about my tattoo since totk came out is really fun to experience. like I already loved my tattoo, and I get compliments for it a lot, but random people are now coming up to me at stores and being like “so i saw you have a majora’s mask tattoo...how about that new game?” and I have to be like “amazing, 10/10, would die a million times again”
