i like to headcanon that after every game, all the previous winners + the new one sit together in some sort of void, where the watchers can’t see them. A blind spot of theirs.

Gem’s sitting on the edge of the plank that hangs over their hill.
“Why’s your eye blue?”
“I don’t know, Scott, why’s half of my body overtaken by a dark, unknown substance that’s slowly eating me out from the inside?” Gem replies, staring at the water a hundred feet down.
“Well, you wouldn’t want me to stroll up and ask you why you’re fifty percent possessed.” Scott doesn’t sit down, but starts munching on a potato. “Plus, I have experience with sudden heterochromia too, you know.”
It’s a light conversation, but the undertones are obvious, like skating on the thin ice lying on the surface of a deep river. Gem sighs.
“It’s not the first time it’s happened.”
Scott nods. “Yeah, I know, Cub and that fog. That was sculk, I have no idea what this is.”
Gem winces as a cherry leaf brushes across her face.
“It hurts?” Scott asks, his expression concerned.
“No, it…” Gem turns to look at Scott for the first time in the whole exchange. Her face is half human, half shadow, and the eye on the afflicted side is, indeed, a murky, dimly glowing navy. “Scott, that’s why I’m worried. It doesn’t feel just fine, it feels… good. Like it was always meant to be this way.”
“Oh,” Scott says. “That sounds wrong.”
“Do you have any ideas what it could be?”
“Well, uh… we could ask Grian, check if it might be a yellow side effect.”
-
“No chance.”
Grian’s rolled up the sleeves of his demure red sweater, standing in the middle of a cow pen outside of the hollowed-out mountain Etho, Cleo, and he calls home. He squints at Gem.
“I mean, come on, or all the other yellows would’ve gotten it too.” The former Watcher elaborates, before jumping out of the pen to closer inspect Gem’s new look. “I’ve never seen this before. The only thing I can think of that’s… infecting you is the End, but you didn’t even go into the portal. Why ask me?”
“We thought you would know, being, you know, Watcher-related…” Scott grins nervously.
“I thought you weren’t a big fan of them in the first place.” Grian says, obtaining a quick nod from Gem before prodding the affected arm.
“Well, you know…” Scott chuckles sheepishly.
“The End?” Gem asks, still a few sentences behind.
“Yes, the End,” Grian doesn’t straighten up since he’s shorter than Gem anyway. “But you didn’t even go in- how- I have no idea. Stop asking me!”
He groans. “Sorry, I don’t know why I’m so grumpy, it’s just- when you got here it was like there was a conflicting presence. Oh, I sound crazy.”
“Wow, you hate me?” Gem jokes. “I’m hurt.”
“Not you, it’s the-” Grian frowns and gestures to her left side. “Ugh! I feel really- like there’s some sort of eavesdropper around. I mean, normally even that wouldn’t bother me, but it’s different. Like more… persistent.”
Scott, who has had one too many run-ins with the higher entities between being a winner and having a history with Jimmy, has caught on. “Oh, is it because of the Watchers’ rivalry with the Li-?”
“I’m not a Watcher!” Grian quickly interrupts him. “Just hurry up and leave before I stab you, it’s not your fault, I just feel like there’s someone spying. Stop listening!” He suddenly shouts to no one.
No one. Unless…
“Grian, you sure you’re oka-” Gem is cut off by Scott hastily saying “Gem, let’s just go now.”
“Right.” Gem, who is incredibly confused, scurries away with Scott.
-
And then she’s back in her base again, lying on the bed and holding her arm above her to watch how the blue glimmers in the light.
It’s captivating. She knows it should be bad, but she’s pretty sure it’s already taken half her soul by now, and she can’t help but fall into its trap.
The question is, what is it?
It must’ve been the End. She created the army that would defeat the dimension’s ruler, and the End… remembers. It must be some kind of revenge, some sort of punishment, to drag her over to the darkness. If you can’t beat ‘em, make ‘em join you.
Somehow she feels like that isn’t all.
Despite all of Grian’s superficial denials, everyone knows that the winged Watcher is… well, a Watcher, probably because he still has the wings.
He felt wrong when Gem was around. Like someone was hearing them- no, listening to them.
Gem watches her left hand curl up into a fist, outlined by the torch’s light. She remembers Scott’s words. Is it because of the Watchers’ rivalry with the Li-
Her eyes open, then open again.
And for half a second, she can hear every conversation, every whisper, every secret.
She Listens.

The Winners of the Life Games.
The Sun.
The Stars.
The Moon.
And Mars.
Four victors, Four victims
Each has their own story to tell.
The Sun
When Grian won, he felt many things. He felt relief, he felt pain, he felt the utter guilt and grief that came from his betrayal of his teammate. Grian's hands were still stained with Scar's blood, his heart still pained with the grief and absence of his ally. It was a fair fight, and both teammates had wished each other the best. One of them had to die no matter what. Still, Grian couldn't shake the feeling of guilt that weighed on his conscience. But now, at least they were free. They could put the Life Game behind them. At least that was what Grian thought...
The Stars
When Scott won, he felt nothing but glee. He had done it, he had survived. He had won. Ren laid still, arrows piercing him in several places. Scott's arrows. Scott looked around triumphantly. Here he was, alive. After all that he'd lost, after all the grief he had endured, he was alive. He placed Binkie down in a puddle and smiled to him. This game was Scott's claim, and he couldn't be prouder.
The Moon
When Pearl won, she felt nothing. She felt complete apathy for the most past, although the bits of her that did feel seemed to scream. They screamed with anger, with pure rage, with joy, with satisfaction. It had been her that caused Cleo to fall, her to finally hurt Scott the way she had been hurt when he'd abandoned her. Yes, Pearl felt a righteous satisfaction, a twisted smile still curved on her lips. She came to Scott, met him where it had all began. Scott stood there, tears in his eyes, Cleo's body resting in his arms. Pearl's dogs surrounded her. They had been her only true companions. She watched Scott's pained expression with a cruel smile and an apathetic heart. But her apathy soon melted away when Scott lit the TNT at his feet...
And Mars
When Martyn won, he barely felt a change. He was totally consumed with rage, with sick satisfaction and a feeling of total power. He had never truly played the games, never given into the Watchers desire for chaos and power. Now, he understood. Now, he relished in the rush that came with every second added to his timer. He didn't care about anything, about anyone anymore. Why was he even denying the Watchers? Why did he want to stop these Death Games? He loved this, he needed this. He didn't care that he was losing himself to the Watchers. He didn't care that he was a Listener is a Watcher's game. He was on top of it all, and that's all that mattered. Any argument against the games would fall on deaf ears from this point on...
Four winners.
Four stories.
Each a piece of the whole, an insight into these games.
Each story holding a different feeling, a different perspective.
Each the key to truly winning.
Because the only way to win is to escape.

So, lots of people have been debating how Martyn fits into the “Sun, Moon, and Stars” imagery now that he’s a victor. But- honestly, even before Martyn won, I was thinking that this imagery was kind of doomed as soon as we got a fourth winner. You can do other space imagery, but nothing will seem as important or significant as the three we already have.
So maybe instead of trying to fit something else in there, we let the cosmic imagery go. Maybe it can come back if we get a fifth, but let’s instead think of imagery that comes in a set of 4 and see what fits.
so uhhh-
- 4 seasons
- 4 elements (that lived together in harmony)
- 4... cardinal... directions?
- 4 horsemen of the apocalypse
- The four primary emotion groups; sadness, fear, anger, and joy
- Card suits
- I couldn’t come up with more so I looked it up and the first that came up was “ninja turtles” so maybe that’s a contender.

To Walk A Mile In Each Others Shoes: Tilly Death Do Us Part
Summary: The soulbonds have consequences, and for some they are more welcome than others. Scott and Pearl Edition
Characters: Scott Smajor & Pearlescentmoon
Word Count: 406
General Note: I'm posting these as separate one-shot style posts for each soulbond pair. They are all written but I have them queued up and spaced out. All posted will be on this blog under the tag "to walk a mile in each others shoes" and also on my AO3, which is linked on my pinned post.
-
The antennae are annoying.
Scott keeps forgetting they are there and catching them in his fingers when he runs them through his hair, which hurts. The extra perception they afford him of his surroundings would be useful, if he were used to processing it (which he isn't) so its more paranoia-inducing than anything else. And a healthy dose of paranoia keeps you alive, but too much gets you dead faster than anything else. And Scott does not intend to die.
Out of spite if nothing else.
His back itches almost constantly, and Cleo had informed him that there are patches of fine, dusty scales between his shoulder blades. Scales like a moth's wings, right in the place where they would sprout from.
The night the moon rose full Scott caught himself standing on the front porch of his house staring at it. Utterly entranced until Cleo shook him out of it. He has to brace himself against the lure of campfires and torches and the siren call of flint and steel (Though that, at least, he is used to. Like Cleo said, they're arsonists.)
And if he focuses on these little discomforts, Scott can ignore the way it sometimes seems like he can see right through the world. Through the Players that inhabit it. Beyond into the Void, into the Ether into...
Scott Smajor is a Void Walker, he knows intimately the dangers of looking too closely at Eternity.
So he closes his eyes and pretends he can't see it looking right back.
-
The stars sing.
It's like a million voices directly in her head. It's shivers down her spine and ice in her veins and fire in her brain. It's the jolt of pain from a phantom axe crit at dawn and the stinging cold of powdered snow to pay it back.
Burn they sing burn bright and fierce and when you burn out take it all with you
They sing and there are so many of them, so many voices and yet they are so far away, so unattainable, and she is still alone.
She digs her fingers into Tilly's fur and buries her face in her neck and tries to focus on the familiar, low hum of the moon beneath the eternal choir.
(And Scott stacks TNT and strikes the flint and steel and she meets his eyes and, far beyond the day-lit skies, the stars swell in a final chord.)

so martyn confirmed that the lizzie and pearl switch was due to pearl having a fractured aura.
but who also has a fractured being, witchcraft smp cleo. so what if her time witch status never allowed her to ever completely recover over seasons of double life. because in witchcraft, it is clear that she is seeing all of her lives being played out simultaneously. each season, their 'aura' became more and more fractured until she had to have a break
why would she be swapped out now, though? i suspect that seeing her children being blown up by the man who she is constantly warning them about would be frustrating for them. possibly enough for her soul to require a break if the watchers didn't want to completely break their soul
there's also the question of why gem and not somebody who was previously in a life series. pearl knew she was about to crack, so she begged gem on hermitcraft to try and take her place. the watchers didn't like that she was trying to get other servers involved, so they gave lizzie pearl's body and gem cleo's body. it was a good way to deal with both of their fracturing auras and an opportunity to torture another soul
for further punishment for pearl, they forced her to watch everything that happened. they get both pearl's and lizzie's bodies to interact to show pearl that gem will have to play this game but by the watcher's rules, not hers. they also gave pearl's body the boogeyman curse for extra salt in the wound
ultimately, lizzie wasn't the one who needed to take pearl's body. it could have been anyone from past series, but it was about showing that the watchers have ultimate control over the life series through the torture of gem's soul
