Eclipse

so gonna rant a little here about this.

Scar's been my favourite pov for this season and a few weeks ago i got the thought of what would the space symbol lore thing be for scar if he won, and i landed on an eclipse, the vibes just felt so fitting.

I looked it up and found eclipse symbolises the disruption of natural order and was believed to be a bad omen, and that just cemented my thoughts on it.

The way he was alone with no allies for most of the time, thought to be really bad at surviving, and despite that, he managed to defy the odds and win against some of the strongest fighters. I'd sat that very well qualifies as a disruption of natural order. And he was often seen as a bad omen because of his chaos and villain tasks, making people avoid him.

I let this thought simmer at the back of my mind hoping he'd win and i could draw and put this idea out there, the chances were slim, but im so happy it actually came true and i can share this thought with all of you :D

(of course there's more parralels to be drawn with Scar killing Pearl, 'the moon', last, as well as other parralels with grian, but i'll just leave it off there for now :) )

Reasons why I like the (old) winners' poem and why Martyn as "mars" is the superior version. Over explained and pure info dump because I'm insane and I wanna talk about it before Secret Life is over :]

"The sun, the stars, the moon and mars"

First of, pure melody. "Sun" and "stars" both start with an s, and both "moon" and "mars" starts with an m. But also, but "sun" and "moon" ends with an n, and "stars" and "mars" even properly rhymes (both ending with "ars").

But also the fact that the words go together (besides all being celestial bodies. Which is also a nice touch, but not the point I'm necessarily trying to make here). The sun and the stars are all stars, and the moon and mars are both satellites.

Then, of course, the meaning. The symbolism. The name Grian literally means "sun" in Irish. Scott has a lot of star motifs going on. Pearlescentmoon. All very straight forward.

Mars? The fourth planet from the sun, the fourth winner. Mars is also the roman god of war, which goes along well with the way Martyn won the game. Although Mars is usually seen as less destructive for the sake of it than his greek counterpart Ares (and rather as a defender and protector), he is still in some versions described as savage or animalisticly feral. The whole "red planet" ordeal could also have been applicable, had it not been applicable to practically every winner. And, of course, the name Martyn literally translates to "dedicated to mars".

There's probably some kind of watcher reference or something to be made there, but I'll leave it at that.

I understand the Pluto!Scar thought process and I do like it. But I think Scar embodies Earth. It's not just that he's a landscaper in basically every series.

Earth is alive, constantly changing and growing. It's full of hidden dangers, humanity is complex, full of love and greed. Every thing alive and dead is beautiful and has meaning, like the Poppies and Lilacs that Scar adorned himself with once he hit red, filled with the memories of a past life that continuously echoes throughout each season, taking on new forms.

He is love. He is fear. He is home.

He is Earth.
