Ummmm, hello???
Tumblr media
From s1 ep1, when Joyce and Jonathan are looking through photos to put on Will’s missing poster. And there sits a photo of the Hawkins Library clock, right in the middle of the photos of Will. The same library clock that rings four times when Jonathan is yelling to Joyce about Will’s funeral — where Will is found and resuscitated — and where Vecna’s four gates intersect . . .
Insane bit of foreshadowing with the “have you seen me?” directly next to the clock image, which is where Will is found.

i never really considered it before; i noticed the connection but i figured we won't find out the REASON for the library's significance til s5, but. it sure is Inch Resting how the gates converge at the same exact place where will was plugged into the vines (which we have never seen happen to anyone else and i soooo need elaboration on) and DIED. and there was also the skeleton there that never got brought up again.
very fucking i n t e r e s t i n g.
i'm not sure if they're meeting there BECAUSE he died there or if he was brought there for the same reason the gates met there. either way, it's sus as hell. every time i think about any of the circumstances around will's time in the upside down i lose all my sanity.
one thing is painfully obvious: it's not a coincidence. all of the demo-creatures have been shown to be hunger-motivated, yet for some reason when the demogorgon finally finds will it??? brings him back to its nest unharmed and intubates him with a vine tendril that implants little infant demo-slugs in him??? its nest that just happens to be in the same place that the gates converge, which is also the centre of the grandfather clock when u map the shatterlines on the glass to the gates???
[also just going back to the demogorgon thing again, i feel like we as a fandom absolutely do not talk about this enough, because WHAT, AND I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH, THE F U C K?!??!?!!
if it was the demogorgon that got him in the end, will would have gone out the same way as barb with his remains left in castle byers. imo that is the most blatant evidence that the demogorgon was not what took will (or at least that it was being controlled) because how do u even dispute it???
and the demo-slug thing... the actual possession only kicked in when the mindflayer entered will's body, but he had been experiencing the now-memories prior to that. that means they probably resulted from being physically connected to the hivemind, not from being turned into a dust puppet. and since he's retained the physical ability to sense vecna... he should also still be able to experience the now-memories??? and when/why did he stop the slug thing??? DID HE EVEN TELL ANYONE ABOUT THE SLUG THING??? I FEEL LIKE THAT'S KINDA AN IMPORTANT DETAIL SIR-]

Librarygate addition from the time-unrelated side
Tumblr media
Richie's joking. But I'm not.
We know that the Duffers are huge Stephen King fans.
There are three significant library arcs in Stephen King's works which I can remember (add if you can, please): the novella "The Library Policeman" (1990, one of the FOUR HOUR STRIKES (the third) in "FOUR past midnight" collection); and two belong to "It": Mike Hanlon was a librarian, but also Ben Hanscom has a big arc with the Derry Library.
I will start with Ben (he is a part of our love triangle parallel after all). Ben's ties to the Derry Library are shown both in miniseries and in recent movies, but to know the full story you of course need to read the book. I've read it two times and the last one was about 15 years ago, so forgive me for any wrong memories (pun intended).
1.. Ben loved the Derry Library. Not only because he was lonely and it was a place he could spend time. He liked to learn, he had good relationship with the librarian. But most of all he liked the bridge part between the two library buildings (idk how to call it in English, that part joins the children library and the grown'ups one with well-lit warm hall with glass sides and roof, probably?). When Ben grew up, he built a building based on that hall and got an architect award for it. He liked the hall because you could use it to go from one library to another even in the winter and be warm and dry and look at all the cold and snow outside. It is probably a metaphor for that tween period of life King loves so much that most of his kid characters end up being eaten by monsters about 11-12.
Ben had bad things happen to him there as well. I don't really remember the accident with the boy and easter eggs in the book, but Ben was really scared of that photograph and the story of Kitcheners' blow up and killing a hundred of kids. Also when he was staying late helping the librarian one winter night, he saw Pennywise on the ice when Ben was crossing the river by the bridge. Yeah, that same bridge Adrian Mellon was thrown from years after Ben's encounter.
But also Ben wrote that poem about Beverly's hair in the library :)
2.. Mike Hanlon. Mike was a fellow loser to Ben. He was interested in Derry history as a kid and figured out that awful things happen in Derry every 27 years for centuries. He grew up and became a librarian in Derry Library. He was the one with his memories intact and called all the Losers when It came back 27 years later.
3.. Library Policeman. It is a hard story. I've read it when I was a kid myself, maybe 12, 13? Years later I remembered the chill and re-read it. It was still years from now so yeah, I'll do what I can with Wikipedia not helping much.
The protagonist of the novella is Sam. When Sam was a child, he was r*ped in the bushes outside of his hometown library by a man who called himself the Library Policeman who punish children who don't return their books on time. At another place, where grown-up Sam lives, he needs some books from the local library for the first time since his childhood. He accidentaly destroys the books after he uses them and then supernatural stuff start to happen. The entity calling itself the Library Policeman is terrorizing him, and the old librarian who gave him the books is long dead. That woman was not human. It is a monster who is feeding on childrens' fear.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sam, his friend with whom he falls in love with, and a former lover of the librarian are on the mission to defeat the monster, who wants a NEW HOST to attach itself to, like a parasite. The former lover DIES while helping Sam and his friend, the monster manages to attach itself to the friend's neck and Sam saves her by pulling it off of HER NECK and throwing it under the wheels of upcoming train where it is smashed out of existence. It is a heartbreaking moment: he makes her to look forward and recite a poem or count, I don't remember, while standing behind her he lifts her hair and sees this thing on her neck (which causes some personality changes in her or just a headache I don't remember sorry), and he takes it off when the train is almost there and throws... This monster was compared to a spider too (the flesh form of It was a spider). I like the idea that it is a soteria in Will's neck, but I'm afraid it can be a part of the Mind Flayer.
So we have Hopper and Joyce go into the Upside Down through the Lab gate to find Will. S01 was heavily influenced by Alien and the Duffers don't just do an homage, they use easter eggs and parallels in the plot.
The first thing Hopper finds in the UD (the first thing Ben Hanscom had found in the sewers… was an orange Pennywise pom-pom when he was a child and red Audra Denbrough's purse as an adult) is a busted-out-of egg which is of course an egg a facehugger is grown in.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Who was born from that egg in the Stranger Things is unclear. Could be a demogorgon. Dragons lay eggs btw.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then Joyce and Hopper inspect the Castle Byers remnants, go to Byers' house where amazed Jonathan recognizes his mother in the lights and Joyce hear him calling her gently. It is irrelevant here but fascinating. Then they follow the trace of blood into the Hawkins Public Library.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There is some kind of lair. It is similar to both the egg lair in the Alien and in the Aliens.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The difference is that in Aliens Momma is still around. Also we have cocooned corpses in the Aliens too:
Tumblr media
Stranger things s01e08:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's all of course from the Aliens and It: Hopper and Joyce parallel the couple from Aliens who found the ship with the eggs, the death of the father points to Hopper's future death.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Joyce finds Will like Ripley finds Newt in the lair, cocooned:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bill Denbrough finds his wife Audra in the lair, cocooned.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But whose lair is it?!
Vecna had his lair in his old house, where he was being charged in a dock like an electronic toy...
Flesh form of It (the Spider) layed eggs in its lair which Losers destroyed (sadly, not on screen in both the miniseries and the movies) by stepping on them.
Alien Queen layed eggs in its lair which Ripley destroyed (by fire!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Who lays those eggs (we saw one) in the UD? Whose lair is in the library???
And just what else I have on the place: Will was FOUND in the library on Nov 12th, but the sign says (Vote here) Nov. 6th when he was taken walked willingly disappeared. So can library be a part of his dissapearance too? Or even in the first place.
Dragons steal princesses and keep them in their lairs too...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
King's prototype of It was a troll from a fairytale, who lives under the bridge and eats children. Do trolls eat princesses? I'm not that familiar with foreign folklore...
And the last but not least:
Team Tigers vs team Falcons:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(the shots of the library with pigeons and then pigeons were followed by shots of Joyce in her car arriving at Melvalds s01e02)
Many noticed the stalker shots and Vecna's parallels to birds.
Birds were absolutely the spies in the Duma Key by Stephen King.

could this drawing in Will's room be the library? First I thought it could be Mike's basement because of the stairs but I noticed this staircase in the reading room in the library now so I thought it could also be one of the possibilities, but I can't really understand the drawing, I see like two people one is sitting on a table and the other is standing behind near a thing that looks like a tree??? but I'm not sure and I also see a dog? I think? idk... what do you see in that drawing?

My Stranger Things Theories
Hi everyone! I’m organizing my blog and wanted to put together a page for my Stranger Things theories and Byler analysis. You can find it all here!
Note: I recommend reading the theories with the stars next to them first, as they’re my best ones!
***The Heroes Theory: my overarching analysis of the Stranger Things series, the song Heroes, and why I believe Byler endgame is the most satisfying from a narrative perspective. I’m most proud of this one!
***Clocks and Emotions: my theory that emotions are a method of time travel in the show, and Will confronting his trauma is how Vecna will be defeated.
Will Byers Full-Circle/Mirror Theory: Will’s parallels to Vecna/Henry/001 and what this tells us about the future of the show. Aka why Will has powers.
Will Byers Vecna Song Theory: my pre-ST4 thoughts about possibilities for Will’s Vecna song, and an assessment of each one.
We Could Be Heroes Parallels: visual parallels on the theme of being a hero in Stranger Things + Bowie.
El and Mike Bedroom Analysis: using the idea that the bedroom represents a character’s innermost self, I look at El and Mike’s rooms to see what set design can tell us about their relationship + inner worlds.
Should I Stay or Should I Go Will Fail: pre-ST4 volume 2 theory from that time when we figured Will was bound to get Vecna’d. Still a fun ride.
Castle Byers + Destruction of Heteronormativity: analysis of Will destroying Castle Byers and how it represents his accepting that he is gay, through the destruction of childhood + heteronormativity.
Vecna, the Mind Flayer, and the Fall of Hawkins: my theory that the Mind Flayer is the ultimate big bad and Vecna is his puppet. Pre-ST4, but some of it still holds up I think.
Mike’s Lacking POV + the Couch Scene: Mike was our main POV character until ST3… until the couch scene at the end of ST4. His internal thoughts are deliberately hidden from the audience.
Will Max Wake-up? Psychic Death: how I think Max will survive through the concept of psychic vs physical death. Based in the X-Men 134 issue.
Yodelgate: I’ll let this one speak for itself.
Hawkins Clock Gate: insane amount of foreshadowing in the first ep of ST that could also relate to Vecna + librarygate.
Future Will Saves His Past Self: and there might be time-loops involved?! Part of recoverypointgate.
Hope you enjoy reading them, and if you have any questions feel free to send me an ask! :)

this post by @stranger-chichka unlocked a train of though in my brain and i just gotta-
a recurring theme of season 4 is the recurring details you dismissed as unimportant being brought to light and woven together, in both a lore sense and a character sense (i should make a more general post about that but it’s 3am and i still have schoolwork rip). the hawkins library has to be one of the most consistent locations in the whole show. despite being seemingly innocuous, things keep leading back to it in more and more obvious ways, to the point where it clearly holds a large amount of yet-to-be-unravelled significance.
in season 1, it’s where hopper goes to research the suspicious activity at the lab, which leads him to learning about mkultra and el’s mama. it’s also where will is found, temporarily dead and pretty much plugged in to the upside down through the vines. the upside down library is particularly hellish, and while it’s easy to assume that it’s the demogorgon’s lair or nest of some kind in s1, we never see anything that actually confirms this. it’s never a good idea to make assumptions, particularly not where stranger things is concerned.
in season 2, dustin goes there to get his “knowledge paddles” for research of his own. the subject of his research: dart. you know. the juvenile demogorgon. the spawn of the upside down.
i don’t remember them visiting in person in season 3, but stranger-chika pointed out that joyce probably got the books she was using to research electromagnetic fields from there (fields caused by the russians trying to open a gate). i was just skimming over the transcripts and i saw that the word library is used twice in the season: when the goverment line hopper got from owens is called, they answer the phone both times with “philadelphia public library”
and then in season four, obviously, things begin to converge. it’s where nancy and robin go to research the creel family, with henry creel being the single strongest connection between the lab and the upside down (will and el are each connected to both, but el is more closely related to the lab while will is more closely related to the upside down. another post for later). and, of course, it’s where all 4 gates converge when hell finally begins to swallow the earth.
every season, then, it’s had connections to the lab, the upside down, or both. it’s appeared in person in 3 out of 4 seasons- as many as the byers’ old house and mike’s basement!!! it’s such an unassuming location, surely just a convenient writing device for a story set in a time before google- until the plotlines and leylines both converge on it.
(and yes, it has a clocktower)

I want to talk about an interesting parallel between two scenes, in S3 and in S2. I know you love librarygate @lilitblaukatz
In S3, after the kids find that the Holloways are gone, Nancy says: “(Mrs Driscoll) She kept saying I have to go back. What if the flaying is taking place somewhere else? There must be a place where all this started, right? A source.”
Then El says: “Somewhere he didn’t want me to see.” And in the shot, we only see her and Will.
That’s because that’s the same thing Will said in S2, about the Mind Flayer not wanting him to see a certain place, in the tunnels.
Tumblr media
My theory is that that place is under the library, where Will sent the soldiers to die, and where Hopper found the animals that the demodogs used as incubators (here the analysis of the maps)
I know it was a trap. But the library IS important. And in this scene they’re talking about another character named William, whose possession has many parallels with Will’s vanishing.
So imo what El and Nancy say is meant to connect the two scenes and is a hint of the importance of the library. A place where all this started (where another William, the one Vecna really wants, was found, and that is now the point of convergence of the gates) A place you have to go back to (we will see flashbacks of Will in S1 at the library? And maybe they’ll also find something there?)
Something about the source...

Alright so I mentioned in one of my posts that Vecna is literally a puppet on a string because of the vines holding him up like a puppet. This is going to be a post going into detail about what I think the Mind Flayer actually is and more clues basically that I have pointing to Vecna being a puppet.
First there are two puppet references that I can think of off the top of my head, one relates to Hopper and the other is the song that Eddie plays prior to his death “Master of Puppets” by Metallica. It’s also interesting that Eddie’s entire thing had to do with metal or being metal and metal is silver in the same season we are all trying to figure out who the silver cat the feeds is, but those sound like big brain thoughts not being thought by me today so anyway, next.
The Ilsensine
So, let’s start with my speculation on who is running this show because right now it’s not looking like Vecna, but Vecna is stronger than a mind flayer so if not Vecna then who? When I made my post regarding the Mind Flayer, I realized that some things didn’t add up with what I was thinking so I went digging farther and found something else.
So, illithids or mind flayers are a species in DnD with power psionic ability. They are evil and have a physical form as we know the shadow monster does not have a physical form. They are highly intelligent. I believe that what we saw in season three was a mind flayer, but that the shadow monster in its entirety is something else. The mind flayer we see in season three is only a small piece of the actual shadow monster. I believe that the shadow monster is actually the Ilsensine, also called the Tentacled Lord or the Great Brain. This is a patron deity mind flayers and believed by some to be their creator. It also serves as a patron to evil mages, like Vecna, and psionicists who dominated the minds of others.
The Great Brain is a greater deity that rules over the mastery of the mind and it’s favored monster is cranium rat, psionically enhanced rats that were transformed by mind flayers through bombardment with psionic energy. This creature also possessed infinite tentacles of infinite length that stretched across all planes.
The Great Brain resided in something called the Dismal Caverns, which has a chaotic evil alignment. The place is described as a great solid mass of rock perforated by caverns, chasms, and tunnels of all sizes. There’s no sky or light expect for that which comes from luminous fungi and molten lava flows. It is also the home plane of other deities; The Great Mother (mothergate?), Laogzed, and Ghaunadaur. Vecna describes what he was doing as being an explorer of the new realm.
Anyway, the Great Brain rules over the terrain called the Caverns of Thought.
Tumblr media
This looks like the tunnels under Hawkins.
Tumblr media
The connection to librarygate is the function of the Ilsensine is that mind flayers in the game don’t worship it, rather they admire the mental capacity that it has. There’s also the fact that Bob the brain helped to figure out the tunnels, the hivemind is what they needed to deal with in season two and three, once with the upside-down creatures and the other time with the zombies. The library is where you go to seek knowledge and the Ilsensine represents the union between the illithids and universal knowledge. Whenever we go to the library our characters are seeking out important information.
Vecna the Puppet
So basically, I believe that Vecna is a puppet of the Great Brain. We have Vecna’s puppet imagery with the vines propping him up like – well, a puppet.
Tumblr media
There is also some evidence that there is more going on with the eldritch monsters. In season three B*lly says “we” while we’ve only seen Vecna use singular pronouns. These things happen back-to-back in season four via flashbacks from El and Vecna’s dialogue. El says it’s been Vecna this whole time, but Vecna neither confirms nor denies this instead opting to remain silent.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The show tells us that Vecna isn’t the big bad. Dustin says that Vecna is like a general.
Tumblr media
Also, obligatory Erica speaking the facts-
Tumblr media
I mentioned in the beginning that one of the times we hear about a puppet and puppet master is with Hopper so let’s pull that up.
Tumblr media
I always though this line was a little weird, but here Hopper is referring to himself as a puppet and telling Joyce that she’s the master. He says that “it turns out, getting to Mike, now that was the key”. The puppet is telling the puppet master that the key to getting what the puppet wants is by getting to Mike. If we replace the term puppet with Vecna that paints a very specific image. After season four we can definitely conclude that Vecna does indeed need to get Mike out of the way and that would be the metaphorical key.
The Eldritch
So, on my little hunt for informational background for this theory I noticed something very interesting about the way we are perceiving the eldritch within the show. Like they will make sounds and the subtitles won’t tell you that they are making sounds, but they do tell you a little in season four.
Tumblr media
“Eldritch thrumming”? “Shrill shrieking”? Both of these are from season four. I did a light browse of the earlier seasons and didn’t come up with any subtitles despite still hearing sounds from the eldritch. It was strange especially when you consider that the shrieking is from a specific scene in season two and when you go back you can’t find the subtitle for that part even though it definitely happened. So, this indicates to me that the gates are alive, and it appears that most of the things we’ve seen are alive, but they didn’t want us thinking to deeply about that yet.
