No wonder Rozenmarine’s bad end is the canon ending. Those two don’t have a single braincell between them… 😓

Hey so I found out something interesting
After finishing Little Goody Two Shoes was reading about german mythology, mysticism, legends and etc, then I came across something that caught my attention.
HEAVY SPOILERS FOR LITTLE GOODY TWO-SHOES!!
In 1932, a paranormal investigator who was known for debunking fraudulent spiritualist attempted a ritual at the top of Brocken, a peak at Germany, in Walpurgisnacht, also known as the celebration of Saint Walpurga's Eve and the night of the Witches.
The ritual was called "Bloksberg Tryst" which was made for turning a goat into a human young boy, featured in a grimoire called High German Black Book.
Tumblr media
Does it sounds familiar? In Little Goody Two Shoes, at the night of the festival of Walpurga, there is also a goat that transforms into a young boy. Ozzy!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I don't know if the devs made it on purpose or not, but it's very interesting nonetheless.

"she's... glaring at me..." lgts spoiler talk
in the bad ends with ozzy, the girls each call out to the people important to them. freya calls for her dad. rozenmarine calls to her grandma. but who does leb have to call out to? granny gretel? no, no matter the vague answers or strange actions, it was always her she could trust the most. or so she thought. i wonder if in that moment, she might even cling to the only thing she's ever known: her faith. the same one hung heavy over her head, but maybe, just maybe, it's worth something now. anyways leb's bad end messes me up!

*huge spoilers for Little Goody Two Shoes + Pocket Mirror*
now that Little Goody Two Shoes is finally out, we know the whole truth about the deal Elise made with the demon, and how she got the Pocket Mirror...
so one of the requierements for Elise's wish to come true was to sacrifice "the good company" which is basically, the love of her life (which she found out too late...). she was too naïve to realize she was being played and so her loved one was fed to the demon.
now, we know the girl who is canonically sacrificed is Rozenmarine (and therefore, the canon girl out of the three you can date in LGTS) because one of the wax records you can listen in Pocket Mirror says this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
and in the ending called "Moira" from LGTS (which is the one you get when you choose to date Rozenmarine and sacrifice her) you get the following dialogue:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and on top of that, this is the only ending that explains how Elise got the Pocket Mirror for Goldia...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
which is from her friend Lebkuchen, who is also one of the romanceable girls in the game and unfortunately, it is confirmed their friendship is broken by then :(
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
so yeah. now we also know who the pocket mirror belongs to.
Elise's backstory is more heartbreaking than i originally thought when i played Pocket Mirror. In that game, the whole deal thing sounded like she did it out of pure greediness without thinking about the consequences of her actions. and yeah, she was an idiot for falling for such an obvious trap, BUT she was also a very young and naïve girl who absolutely hated her life, and so when she had the opportunity to leave that life behind she just took it. and when Ozzy (that is, the demon) told her he would take something else in exchange for that, she just came up with something she was sure would never happen.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
it was never her intention to doom Goldia. hell it was never her intention to even have a second kid after she had Henri. but her fate was already sealed.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
and thus, that's how Goldia's fate came to be...
also rip Rozenmarine :(

my main grief with LGTS 👠👠 (huge spoilers ahead)
Tumblr media
i finally finished the game yesterday and although i all in all liked it a lot i really don’t get why it is so punitive. till. the. very. end(s).
after restarting it TWO times (one time because i couldn’t possibly know beforehand how niggardly they would be with money/food/resources, and the other time because i couldn’t get the windmill key from Eugen😒💢🗝️) and going through all those witch hour trials i am left with the feeling that you never really get to win.
YES you do get the sweet lesbian good ending with your sweetheart of choice, but that basically nullifies — in terms of reward for the player — all your hard effort during those sleepless nights going around getting pecked by birds, chased by phantoms and carriage-goat demons. with the lesbian endings, you never get to the bottom of any of the mysteries and you mostly live in an ignorant lovey-dovey bliss 🕊️💕
the apostasy ending — where you get to the bottom of the cave notes mystery and all the priest attempts at summoning Walpurga — still doesn’t feel rewarding, as the witch kills you just when you were almost about to bring Father Hans’ misdeeds to light — so despite getting SUPER CLOSE to uncovering the truth behind Kiefeberg’s mysteries, you still lose.
both the kiss ending and the motherly cocoon ending are yet another win for Walpurga — in the kiss you become one with her (accompanied by crazy-unmei-talk Rozenmarine) in the woods, while in the other she essentially takes your place, embodying an Elise that’s no longer the player. so again. you lose.
the auto da fe ending doesn’t need more explaining than “you just get burned at the stake” like the witch you are. and again it makes sense as a bad ending (also because you get that if you didn’t succeed in getting and placing the token of love from your sweetheart, thus punishing your inability to create at least one true strong bond 💖)
what im trying to say is that — although all these endings make sense and are totally fine endings by themselves — you finish the game multiple times and you never get to defeat Walpurga, nor Him. and honestly i wouldn’t have minded so much not getting to defeat the witch. but what i would’ve loved to see — something that would really reward the player for all the (sometimes very annoying and frustrating) trials you go through — is an ending where you defeat Ozzy, where you get to somehow outwit the devil himself. because — as Elise — you are different from the golden girls who have gone through this path in the past. as Elise, you are a not-entirely-human girl generated through Holle’s wish with the help of the devil himself on the soil and with a doe of Walpurga’s land (and in this instance, Walpurga could have even chosen to become an ally of yours, forming some sort of contract with Elise so as to get closer to her again and also banish Him out of the woodlands with Elise’s help! — all things she said she wanted for so long). so you’re really not just another human girl making a deal with the devil. and even if you don’t get to win because “you’re born special”, you still should get to have at least one (1) ending where (as the player) you can triumph after all the hard work you put in to see this through the very very end. it could’ve been the hardest ending to get. but it would have been an absolute triumph of the MC. 🏆 a triumph i still think she deserved. (yes, Elise can be very selfish and self-entitled, but she has shown multiple times that she also has a big heart 🫀)
don’t get me wrong, i still love this game ❤️ (despite the very MANY frustrating bits and the unskippable cutscenes & dialogues right before the annoying part you just tried 7 times to get right 💢💢💢) — i just feel like Elise really deserved an ending where she gets to the bottom of the Walpurga mystery (à la Pentiment, where yet again it’s a priest who’s found out to be the one behind it all lmao) AND gets to defeat Strange Boy thanks to the strength of her character (and maybe the peculiarity of her birth circumstances too) — a quality that the game itself so often kept reminding the player of.
TL;DL Lebkuchen best girl ⛪️💙

i saw art of freya as a werewolf before i started playing lgts and i thought that was spoilers because while i was playing freya is just like very puppy coded with affection and showering elise with gifts and her crazy strength and then the final day being on a full moon i thought that that was gonna be a big reveal like she fights back against ozzy or the hag or something
and then it just didn't happen
Tumblr media
no that its a bad thing at all but there being three different endings for her and none of them is that and i was super expecting it to happen was such a shocker

I was agreeing w so many points you were making in regards to PM and LGTS anons that you were disagreeing with, and then I’m absolutely flabbergasted being smacked in the face seeing that you ship Ozzy/Enjel. Lmao that shit gave me whiplash, it was just a complete 180 from what you were stating.
He created her so he’s kinda like her dad??? He’s at least her maker, so there’s a huuuuuge power imbalance between the two. He’s also been lying to her and manipulating her the whole time. There’s also the abuse because he cut off her finger.
I’m not hating you for shipping them or anything, it just really took me by surprise
My answer is long, so I'll put it under the cut.
The way you worded this made it sound like you're judging me for it. Which is funny, because apparently me... shipping Lisette and Goldia isn't an issue? Although Lisette abuses Goldia even worse, threatens her, kidnaps her, throws scissors at her, traps her in mazes, holds her accountable for things she doesn't remember, and oh yes, kills her in some endings while laughing about it? Goldia apparently treated Lisette as a scapegoat before the events of the game, using what's implied to be verbal abuse to keep Lisette in line and making her existence a living hell. It's a popular ship in the fandom. Why aren't you taking issue with that?
While I'm not denying there's an imbalance of power, or that he mistreated her, Ozzy created all of the girls, not just Enjel. I'm well aware of how bizarre this pairing is. Even if that wasn't the case, creating a sentient being does not automatically make a character its parental figure, especially if they are not capable of acting as a guardian, which he isn't. The Strange Boy's appearance applies he's underage. Equating this with incest, which is what your ask seems to imply here, is a stretch since there's no familial relation. According to this logic, Goldia would effectively be dating herself if she romanced any of the girls, since they're all meant to represent aspects of her personality. But selfcest is... okay, I guess?
Ozzy x Enjel is the equivalent of paring these two. Just because it's "problematic" doesn't mean it wouldn't work.

i will be the first to admit that this might be reaching a bit. also discussions of religious concepts in lgts ahead
so catholicism in lgts is explored through the struggles of living in a small catholic town like kieferberg, and literally everything about walpurga, the forest deity turned saint. but imo there's also something to be said about how elise obtains the tender flesh: this might be a reflection of the sacrament of the eucharist as understood during the medieval era.
but what is the eucharist anyway?
in catholic doctrine the eucharist is supposed to be the body of christ manifested through transubstantiation: the transformation of bread and wine into his flesh and blood respectively. this is based on the events of the last supper in the bible, wherein before his death jesus offers his body to his disciples through the bread and wine that they share. thing is, current understanding of transubstantiation is moreso in a metaphysical sense: catholics who do believe in it don’t actually think that they’re eating jesus’ physical body.
that wasn't always the case with medieval catholicism, however. there were theorists like st aquinas and berengar who argued for a metaphysical transubstantiation, but powerful church officials like cardinal humbert (who actually forced berengar to recount his claims) also believed that the faithful partaking in the eucharist were actually eating the literal, physical flesh and blood of jesus. there was quite a bit of concern too because of this: the body of christ, torn apart and chewed on by not just the faithful, but potential sinners?
the average catholic of that time probably didn't care much for the specifics of how transubstantiation worked (either way, the bread is/represents jesus, whether or not that was physical or not), but the point is there was an ongoing debate—if only among high-ranking church officials and theologians—about what the eucharist really was. now keep in mind that aforementioned literal physicality of the eucharist, and how similarly that plays out to the relevant witching hour segments in lgts.
i want to first highlight the scene where the crows in murim's domain rip out parts of elise's hair for the wheat testament:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
and the aftermath:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
they sure are hungry, huh? and the way they get at elise is pretty violent, judging by her screams and the sounds of tearing flesh. their carnal hunger, expressed through their lines and the violence in how they form the wheat testament from her hair, brings to mind similar fears of an animalistic, near sacrilegious ingestion of a certain sacred body turned bread, only this time realized in a demonic trial. in other words, the entire trial subverts christ's supposed physical presence in the bread. besides, it's stated outright that elise is meant to physically combine a piece of her body—her hair—into that wheat.
she does just that in the windmill:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
her hair baked into the (apparently unleavened) bread is the tender flesh that the crows hungered for, that would eventually find its way onto ozzy's table.
Tumblr media
so the process of acquiring the tender flesh seems to imitate that transubstantiation in the celebration of the eucharist. if that's the case, i wonder why ozzy and his minions would design them this way…
btw here's my sources for medieval transubstantiation (despite my unhinged rambling i did do a bit of research):

Guys, I have a theory!
I was rewatching some of the endings of LGTS (like the normal person I am) and I noticed something...
Tumblr media
At the carriage sent by Roman Die Heilige (Elise's husband), there's a symbol at the top. Ozzy's symbol.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
My first thought would be that it could be an hallucination, but nothing indicates that. Besides, the castle is heavily represented in his domain.
It could be linked to Elise's wish, but that itself doesn't explain why it's painted with Aziel and Murim in front of it on the big painting at the room before the end of the game.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
My theory is that the Die Heilige family already worked for Ozzy and his marquis before. Probably not Roman himself, but someone in the family, and their deal were very important for them to gain more power or more influence at the region.
