as a genderqueer person the idea of coming out as a lesbian to people outside of my immediate family is super daunting. the reason for this is that on a surface level, the first thing i think other people tend to associate with being a lesbian is, well, being a woman. and for a lot of lesbians, this is the definition of being a lesbian, in terms of their own personal identity with regard to their gender. even though i am aware that the lesbian identity is inclusive of non-binary/non-binary aligned people, its hard to not feel like an outsider when the lesbian label so often feels restricted to the gender binary.

#i think its mainly bc many ppl don't understand how diverse the lesbian truly is n that it's not black n white at all #its like yes im a lesbian no im not a woman who loves women i get how confusing that must sound ik i'll see myself out #let me be a genderqueer/nb person who likes non men in peace dknbkdn #and then theres also the issue of like sexuality n stuff #im reading this book atm about being queer n autistic and #that book defined a lesbian as a woman who is both romantically AND sexually attracted to women #caps #i don't get why people who are comfy with the term lesbian but are some version of aspec have to be excluded? #like im a sex repulsed asexual and i feel like that shouldn't make me less of a lesbian actually #genderqueer #lesbian #non binary lesbian
