Shoutout to the Elder Millennial at the table next to me at the gaming bar, whose barbarian just charged into battle shouting "LEEEEROYYYY JENKINS!!!!"
and then had to stop and sheepishly explain a World of Warcraft meme to his genZ GM.
I never realized how much it would bother me that youngsters won't understand references/older stuff anymore. Zack doesn't know Leroy Jenkins but i guess he woulda been like 2 at the time lol. I went back to school a few years after I graduated but my classmates already don't know what a landline is. Stop making me feel old when I'm not even 30 yet lol
so, when the Bleach manga ended, we were left with quite a large question, What is Zangetsu’s power, and thus the power of Tensa Zangetsu? I genuinely think that the answer to that question has been right in our faces the entire time, or in this case, Ichigo’s face. (long post below the break)
HOLLOWFICATION
As we learn in TYBW, the Old Man is not Zangetsu, Ichigo’s inner hollow is, and in anything but the rain we learn Masaki was bitten by an artifical hollow made by Aizen using the souls of shinigami, and that this hollow had a venom that was a concentrated form of the hollowfication agent used on the visoreds. The scary thing is, Aizen accidentally created a zanpakuto (more specifically an asauchi) with White as stated by Oetsu Nemida.
I do not belive Zangetsu is White, intsaid I believe that Zangetsu is a ‘progeny’ of the inner hollow created within Masaki by White’s venom. (who is also not White) Now, the fuckery with Masaki aside, this means that Zangetsu has a strong hollow nature, and based on my statement, grants Ichigo the powers of them.
the specific powers are where things get interesting. the above mask IMO is actually a part of a false shikai/bankai that Ichigo was granted as the Old Man was limiting his power. (backed up by Byakuya’s ‘not a bankai’ statement) where things get interesting is where we get into what the granted abilities are.
Cero is an obvious one, and we see it demonstrated both by Vasto Lorde Ichigo (which I believe is the true form of that version of Tensa Zangetsu) and Horn of Salvation (which I believe to be Ichigo’s true shikai). the next is Sonido, again demonstrated by VL Ichigo, but also, as we know now from episode 7 of the TYBW anime (when Ichigo appeared before Byakuya), by ichigo in his fullbring bankai without being in a hollowfied state. We also have hierro, which can explain almost all of Ichigo’s duribility feats, along with regeneration, which explains the rest, and was again demonstrated by VL Ichigo against Ulquiorra.
The reason I do not think that Zangetsu’s power is Gestuga Tensho is pretty simple, Getsuga Tensho is a Shiba family technique. We see Isshin use it in Anything But the Rain, thus it cannot be Zangetsu’s as it is not exclusive to Zangetsu. I also believe that “break the wheel of fate” stuff is purely philosophical as Bleach is centered heavily on ones willpower. Thus I feel that Zangetsu’s power being the ability to temporarilly hollowfy its user and grant it the abilities of a hollow is more in line with what we’ve seen Ichigo do. So in any writing I do, this will be Zangetsu’s power.
(Note, this idea was not originally mine, credit to Flame of Rebirth, video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-n18vNA9DzQ)
(This also will be the core of how I handle Karin’s powers as well as the theoretical model of Masaki’s)
So I live with this guy…
We’ve been talking at co-op board meetings about installing solar panels or a roof deck— this guy just built his own illegally and it has a hot tub.
