Glenn Curtiss had several very important women in his life: his wife Lena, his mother Lua, his grandmother Ruth, and his sister Rutha. Oddly enough, not much is told about any of them here at the museum or on our website. I plan to change that. I spent today researching these interesting ladies.

Reimagining

I want to explore the importance of post production in film. I am interested in how

the role of the editor is significant in creating the tone and nature of the film and

how footage can be manipulated to communicate different ideas. I will create 3

videos from the same footage. After some experimentation with a variation of

editing techniques I may narrow down the focus to one of the one techniques. Eg)

keep the same sequencing throughout but different sounds.

I want to use and have a better understanding of premier pro.

I want to explore different styles of editing.

Note what styles fit into different genres and how styles communicate different

ideas.

Have 3 different films (or more depending how fast I can edit) using different styles.

Explore the importance of the different sections of editing (as outlined below).

To be more experimental with camera angles/pans and cinematography.

Methods (how might you go about it, what materials/ processes might you

use)

Create the themes and story through filming. Shoot a variation of shots bearing in

mind the idea of potentially having alternative stories from the same footage.

I have broken down aspects of editing into seven sections

Order/Sequencing, Sound, Speed, Cropping, Filters/Colour, Cutting, Effects.

I want to implement some of these techniques into the films.

Ordering

- Does this change the story

- Different outcome/meaning changes

- Alternative endings

- Scenes from different angles

Sound

- Music, upbeat/dark/unrelaxing/horror

- Silence

- Narration

- Voice Over

- Mix Voices/Swap

- Slowed down words over normal paced film

- Poetry/Text

- Description of what’s happening

- Interaction between narrator and subject (can they hear the voice?)

- Homemade sound effects

- Merge sounds

Speed

- Slow Mo pieces

- Sped up

- Changes the focus

Cropping

- Zoomed in details

- Full outward view

- More or less immersive

Filters

- Changes aesthetics, mood and feeling of the film

- Changes the genre

Cutting

- Things I can’t imagine they are so out of this world.

Research plan:

Spend a few days filming footage, create a mixture of shots through different

camera angles/techniques of moving camera. Use cardboard and paint for

backdrops as well as shots without.

Bring in storyboarding once have some initial footage and clearer idea of themes I

want to explore.

Throughout the whole editing process I will always be limited to a certain amount

of footage. However other variables will change. Sometimes they will be more

limited than others.

I will explore the subsections within the 7 different editing techniques.

Throughout making references to my list of practitioner’s to research.
