So I recently found my way back into webtoons, found this AMAZING webtoon called Let’s Play by Leeanne M. Krecic, read it all in about 2 days.
The fun part is, I showed my boyfriend ONE little thing I found funny, and he took my phone and started reading the entire chapter, so it clearly sucked him in too, so he decided to download webtoon as well, and he read it just about as fast as me. So during a good while we both sat and read this together, and it was the more intimate thing I’ve ever done I believe. Just sitting next to each other, reading the same thing. And after we have been able to discuss about it, and it makes me so very very happy!!
So now that we both have finished that one, he started with Heartstopper by Alice Oceman that I started with when the Netflix adaptation came out, and it feels so fun to have someone to talk to about these webtoons that I’m reading, and that he truly enjoys them:)

In the ultimate example of giving the fans what they want, Leeanne M. Krecic (aka “Mongie”), creator of the webcomic Let’s Play, is releasing a dating sim based on her Eisner- and Ringo-nominated series. The Kickstarter for Everdate (aka “Let’s Play: The Dating Game”) launched today and is already fully funded. Let’s face it: is there anyone out there who wouldn’t leap at the opportunity to make your ship kiss?

Comics Kickstarters were 24% more successful than other books in 2020
Tumblr media
By Chris Arrant
Kickstarter has closed the books on 2020, and as expected it was a record year for the comics division. A few months back, we reported that Kickstarter had already broken their year-over-year record of $16.9 million by October 2020 with $22m. Now with the dust settled, over $25 million was taken in for comics on Kickstarter.
$25,784,658 to be exact.
There were 1,758 successful comics projects on Kickstarter in 2020. The highest-grossing ones of the year are:
BRZRKR by Boom! Studios: $1,447,212
How to Think When You Draw 3 by Lorenzo Etherington: $1,100,139
Ava's Demon: Reborn by Michele Czajkowski: $530,310
Cmon Comics Vol. 1 by Cmon: $501,632
Lady Death: Treacherous Infamy #1 by Coffin Comics: $376,256
Madi by Z2 Comics: $366,610
Let's Play Volume 2 by Leeanne Krecic: $355,563
Lady Death: Malevolent Decimation #1 by Coffin Comics: $347,045
Stand Still Stay Silent Book 3 by Hiveworks Comics: $315,830
Michael Turner Creations by Aspen Comics: $275,496
And it's not just the revenue has increased, but also the percentage of successful comics Kickstarter projects has increased. 73.9% of all comics Kickstarters were successful in 2020 - up 4.9% from the previous year, and up over 15% from 2016. This success rate is emboldening, and atypical for Kickstarters as a whole - publishing Kickstarters had a 49.4% success rate in 2020, and games 57.4%.
As of February 17, 2021, Kickstarter's 'comics' category has received over $137m in pledges, with 10,900 comics projects successfully funded with $128m raised from those since the company began.

Comic News Insider Episode 1238 - NYCC Recap & Interviews w/ Leeanne Krecic/Ben Templesmith/Tom Akel!
Comic News Insider: Episode 1238 is now available for free download! Click on the link or follow on Spotify/subscribe on iTunes!
New York Comic Con came and went! Jimmy and Producer Joe attended and boy did we cover a lot. Jimmy got 11 interviews which you'll hear this week and next. And one of our top correspondents, Keka, covered the Y: THE LAST MAN press room for us. Really great being back at a con and quite a few tearful reunions were had. At times, too crowded but overall enjoyable and fun. Besides seeing old friends, Jimmy & Joe met some great new creators and others. Listen to our recap and let us know your thoughts if you attended. In this episode, Jimmy interviewed Leeanne Krecic (LET'S PLAY), the original SQUID GAME Ben Templesmith & Rocketship Entertainment founder Tom Akel. Some big NYCC news which includes: Vaughan & Staples bring back SAGA, Kurt Busiek's ASTRO CITY returns, Kiernan Shipka will appear on RIVERDALE and more! Thanks to Producer Joe for all the editing magic in these episodes. Also, get a hold of us!
Thanks for listening!
