I got in the shower and she was on her phone. I got out of the shower and she was sound asleep. What a long day. The angiogram will be reviewed by Drs. Lawton and Albuquerque tomorrow morning, after which we have an appointment with Dr. Lawton. What we know from the angiogram so far is that although Lauren's #AVM is very large and diffuse with many feeding arteries, there was nothing seen of immediate worry. #Preschool #graduation, 2011. The years are going by too fast. This was just under 2 years before the #seizure that led to Lauren's #AVM diagnosis. We had a few clues that something was going on, but nothing concrete. She was a bit behind in preschool, and she was having #headaches here and there. Here's Lauren and her sister at last year's #sticksforkids event. They learned basic hockey moves from the @vegasgoldenknights staff and they had a blast doing so. One year later and Lauren can't go do this stuff outside because of her #AVM. In an effort to prevent a rupture, she is supposed to stay in if the temperature is over 90 (what's a kid to do during summer in #lasvegas with a restriction like this? 😕) and she has to avoid activities that raise blood pressure. At this time on this date in 2013 we were sitting in a hospital, getting ready to be transferred via ambulance to another hospital. All we knew at that moment was that Lauren suffered a large seizure and the CT was showing something in her brain. As adults you remember the date, the time, the sights and sounds. And then there's the nervousness and the fear. Lauren remembers some of it but not the date in particular. In AVM and aneurysm support groups today is called her "annieversary". On this day 6 years ago, Lauren woke up as a regular 6 year old. Hours later everything changed and this journey started. My stubborn little 6 year old has proven herself to be kind, empathetic, and wise beyond her years over the last 6 years. She's experienced stuff that no kid should go through. She understands that the AVM can kill her....and she smiles and lives her life. In short, she's a bit of a bad ass and we could all learn something from her.
