A Brief Guide to Yachts

This is a continuation to my cultural education segment (aka my rich bitch guide).

The yacht is an invention of the 14th century Dutch. The Dutch used small, fast boats for chasing smugglers, pirates and criminals. Rich ship owners and merchants began using these small “jaghts” to sail out to celebrate their returning merchant ships.

The first yacht club in the world, called the Cork Water Club, was established in Ireland in 1720.

1. Annapolis Yacht Club: Surrounding the Spa Creek Bridge in Annapolis, the Club boasts over 75 wet slips and dry dockage. The club began in 1886 as an informal canoe club, and today has 1600 regular members active in social, racing, and cruising programs

2. Chicago Yacht Club: Founded in 1875, Chicago Yacht Club is one of the oldest and most respected yacht clubs in the world. The Club is home to more than 1,400 members, including a winning America’s Cup skipper, and Olympic medalists.

Yachts are most active in the summer months (May- August in the northern hemisphere) or the winter months. many yacht owners decide to keep the maximum number of guests onboard to 12 (plus crew) for chartering.

Sailing Yacht: a yacht mainly propelled via wind and sails

Motor Yacht: a yacht propelled via one or more motors

Gulet Yacht: a hybrid yacht with both sails and motors

Cyberangriffe auf Norddeutsche Werften

Vor wenigen Tagen wurde die Lürssen Werft durch eine Ransomware-Attacke lahmgelegt. Kurz davor wurde die Flensburger Schiffbau Gesellschaft mbH & Co. und Nobiskrug Yachts GmbH das Opfer einer Attacke der BianLian APT-Gruppe und man will 3 Terabyte an Daten entwendet haben. Eigentlich haben die deutschen Werften viele andere Sorgen. Nun sind aber schwerwiegende IT-Sorgen dazugekommen. Über die Osterfeiertage soll eine Ransomware-Attacke die Lürssen-Werft lahmgelegt haben. Laut einiger Medien im hohen Norden soll in der Werft IT-technisch und auch im Ablauf nichts mehr funktionieren. Hintergrund soll eine Phishing-Attacke gewesen sein, die als Vorstufe für einen Ransomware-Angriff diente. Laut der FAZ.net soll Lürssen umgehend alle notwendigen Schutzmaßnahmen eingeleitet haben. Mehr war aber bis dato nicht zu erfahren. Auch auf den einschlägigen Leak-Seiten ist zur Lürssen-Attacke noch nichts zu finden. Flensburger Schiffsbau verlor wohl 3 TB Daten Bei der Flensburger Schiffbau Gesellschaft mbH & Co. und Nobiskrug Yachts GmbH ist das Ergebnis, welches die APT-Gruppe BianLian selbst mitteilt wohl etwas düsterer. Auf deren Leak-Seite nennt BianLian die gestohlene Datenmenge von 3 Terabyte und stellt dutzende von gestohlenen Unterlagen bereit. Dabei sollen sich Unterlagen der Buchhaltung, Verträge, persönliche Daten, finanzielle Daten und Daten des Top-Managements finden. Weiterhin sollen auch technische Unterlagen zum Schiffsbau und mehr dabei sein. Die APT-Gruppe BianLian und seine verbundene Infrastruktur erschien laut DXC.com erstmals im Dezember 2021. Die Gruppe verdreifachte bis August 2022 ihre C2-Infrastruktur, was ein deutlicher Ausbau ist. Seit Beginn 2023 listet die Gruppe über 50 erfolgreiche Cyberangriffe und Erpressungen auf ihrer Leak-Seite auf. Was davon wahr ist und wer das Lösegeld bezahlt hat und wer nicht, ist natürlich unbestätigt. Wie hoch die Forderung von BianLian an die Flensburger Schiffbau Gesellschaft ist, sofern die gestohlenen Daten echt sind, wird auf der Leak-Seite nicht genannt. Die Seite nennt nur die offiziellen Umsätze ihrer Opfer, FSG mit 223 Millionen Dollar und des Tochterunternehmens Nobiskrug mit 167 Millionen Dollar. The rarity was found aboard what is likely to be the $470 million superyacht “Amadea.”

The alleged egg was found aboard a multimillion-dollar vessel that was recently seized in Fiji. Monaco did not disclose exactly which superyacht it was but did say it was currently docked in San Diego Bay.

While the justice department did not immediately respond to Robb Report’s request for a comment regarding the name of the vessel, all signs point to the $470 million Amadea. The 106-metre Lürssen megayacht, reportedly owned by sanctioned Russian tycoon Suleiman Kerimov, was sailed by US law enforcement officials from Fiji to San Diego in late June after a lengthy legal battle regarding the yacht’s ownership.

Kerimov, who has close ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin, could be one of the handful of private Fabergé egg owners not publicly listed. For the unversed, Fabergé eggs were handcrafted by the House of Fabergé from 1885 to 1917 for members of the Russian royal family and other elite individuals. Of the 69 or so produced, it is estimated only 57 are still in existence. The coveted gem-encrusted rarities are now icons of luxury valued in the tens of millions of dollars. (The one pictured above is the Spring Flowers Egg from the year 1899.)

The egg is just one of many assets seized as part of the justice department’s “KleptoCapture” initiative targeting sanctioned Russians.
